Spring Fever

I owned this beauty at the height of the 90s in my early twenties. Oh, and how evocative it is of that time period. Another gem that very sadly bit the dust at some point. In a plethora of uplifting, youthful 90's scents- Sunflowers, L'eau d'Issey, Perry Ellis 350, Gap Dream and Heaven, Eddie Bauer Balance, EA's Green Teas, Eternity, Calyx- this one was different, that luscious linden blossom and a bright splash of refreshing citrus. I adored this types of scents back then, much more than the unisex CK One and my bff's Joop de Bain, Dune, and Lou Lou. As Ish55 writes, I'm not really keen on melon. With the exception of Victoria's Secret Tranquil Breezes, I bypass them, even the quintessential 90s favorite Cucumber Melon. I can't detect a drop of melon in Spring Fever. Just fresh, peak spring flowers and as others said, very, very green.

Limone di Sicilia from Aerin smells very much like Origins Spring Fever! Probably a tad more sophisticated but the same fragrance nevertheless! (Both Origins and Aerin are owned by the Estee Lauder Companies. Origins Spring Fever was discontinued in 2009 despite immense protests against this.) If you loved Spring Fever, you should definitely try Limone di Sicilia!

The combination is greater than the sum of the parts, if you understand what I mean. This fragrance, along with Origin's ginger essense and Gloomaway, are favorites of mine. Clean, fresh, crisp. Yesterday a coworker who has never said anything kind to me--ever--walked into my office and commented on how nice it smelled, he thought it was one of my plants.

Never have I gotten more compliments than I did while wearing this. Strangely fresh and green, strongly mandariny and with this amazing soft linden blossom note. Men and women alike loved it.

This fragrance was my absolute favourite during the 90'. It stood out from all the melon smelling scents that came up during those years by not smelling overwhelmingly of melon. I just hate melon, I've never had a piece of melon in my mouth, the smell is repulsive to me. It's fresh and sparkling and sweet in a wonderful way. Luckily I have hoarded a couple of bottles now it's not available any longer. I don't understand why Origins let it go from their assortment.

I adored this fragrance in the late '90s. I went through my first bottle in months. I had just purchased a house, and the scent made me think of joy and freedom. Right after I bought a second bottle, a friend told me I smelled like I was wearing Windex. I was so disappointed by his comment that I never wore it again. I know, I know, it only matters what I think, not what others think. But it was still a sad moment. I still have that second bottle, 27 years later. Either it has turned or my scent memory is very bad--although the latter is pretty unlikely. It smells terrible. I'm trying to decide whether or not to throw it away. There is a tiny part of my Spring Fever memory that is evoked by Creed Spring Flower.

Like the name says, this captures an intense moment in spring where all the buds blossom, the butterflies flutter and the grass blades are thick and green. Wildflowers dot the landscape as the last droplets of morning dew begin to evaporate. A water wheel next to a barn turns slowly in a creek, adding algae-scented foam to the mix. This is the beauty of spring in a bottle. But not just any spring, it is the scent of the American spring landscape. Do you remember the intro to The Little House on the Prairie where the girls run down a hill while the parents look on from their covered wagon? This is that scene in a bottle.

Not a review but more of a heads up! I was out snooping around today and went into Banana Republic where they've recently launched a line of unisex scents. I tried 'Vintage Green 78' and have to say does it ever smell like Spring Fever. For those of you missing that lovely scent give this new one a try.
