Le Regent

(Disclaimer: the bottle i received wasn't sealed properly, basically received a bottle that contained 70% of the actual amount. unsure if the bottle being open for 5 days has affected the smell. The brand has compensated me very kindly so im only noting this in case my perception of the scent is wrong because of possible evaporation) This smell is so... confusing. ive seen multiple people state it has an apothecary/medicinal/bitter opening, which immediately made me think of benjoin boheme. Yet, the opening is extremely fougere to me. Its aromatic and green while being soapy fresh with a powdery texture, not a hint of ambery warmth present. This opening luckily lasts for a short while, because it quickly turns vanillic and caramelized. The benzoin kind of caramel, its like slightly darker and more gasoline like than actual edible caramel. It is sweet but not cloyingly so, and this phase weirdly reminds me of eau duelle by diptyque. It is not my favorite phase for its not the amber im looking for. its not deep, golden or resinous... yet After some more time, i notice this muskiness that vaguely reminds me of baccarat rouge sans screechiness. It must be the ambergris synthetic, but it weirdly doesnt bother me here. it doesnt feel sharp nor metallic like it does in many department store perfumes. Still, this phase doesn't feel like the vintage amber im looking for... it feels shockinly modern for a house with such deep, bold and obviously vintage perfumes Luckily, this perfume doesnt seem to give up after an hour or so. it constantly projects and develops. finally, after a long enough wait, i get to experience deep resins without any of the other notes barging in. they are still translucent, but milky and honeyed at the same time. not spiced, not like other vintage ambers (i dont get the shalimar comparisons at all). It is a beautiful drydown that doesnt really count as a drydown seeing how the perfume is still persistent and maybe even stronger than the initial blast. theres no soapiness or greenness left, its really just about benzoin with a powdery and suede like texture. its pillowy, cloudy, dreamy. not smoky in any way. It also doesnt feel ancient like most other resin focused perfumes (eau lente, opoponax honore payan). I think empire des indes checks the 'ancient' box better, if that is the only thing you're looking for in an amber. I also must say this is the least vintage smelling perfume from this house, which isnt inherently bad but definitely something to keep in mind if you feel like blind buying. Extremely beautiful, but not weird or bold. Its definitely no marions-nous, you wont be offending people wearing this one. Not a bad thing at all however! im not implying that it smells generic, but it also wont fully shock you and change your personhood like some perfumes do. I think im only being nitpicky because its a new purchase, i will edit as time passes EDIT —————————— Okay, after a few days, the opening isnt as confusing anymore. Its starts off vaguely floral and light and sorta fresh with a resinous background. Doesnt smell synthetic or ‘clean girl’ however, just... effervescent. I still dont get bitter/camphoracious/apothecary/medicinal notes, it definitely feels ‘perfumey’ instead of photorealistic. Afterwards, the warm musky ambergris appears without being too powerful or marine or animalic. The drydown remains translucent yet noticeable, it is a sugared vanillic resin without any ‘’’oriental’’’ or powdery notes that define the vintage amber genre. The sugar isnt angel mugler/baccarat rouge esque, it feels natural and light... like sugarcane instead of corn syrup. If that makes sense... The caramel burnt sugar aspects of benzoin are kept minimal, this is definitely far away from a gourmand fragrance. The leather in the drydown is solely textural, more like a soft suede instead of a leather jacket. All in all, this is a summery ‘amber’ that is translucent but defined. Not some citrusy musky clean fragrance for sure. Yet, it does feel a ever so slightly disappointing to get such a modernized amber from a house like this. I mean, their whole thing is recreating vintage formulas. I still love this one, but part of me feels like its never gonna be a favorite fragrance of mine. The resins dont even feel that dark or deep. I think their Fin Comme L’Ambre does this job much better Its a SAFE fragrance. Not necessarily a negative, but im left feeling a bit indifferent. I constantly mention how divisive = >>> safe, so im gonna stand behind that and say this isn’t my favorite from the house. I will still wear it with love, its not like im disgusted by it. Im just not in love

So so comforting. This fragrance is like an old memory, an antique place. It's a sweet, balmy, resinous, ambery and dusty + a bit incense-smoky and woody vanilla scent. I'm smelling this with closed eyes and this fragrance takes me to an imaginary, old and abandoned vintage royal home. There is autumn here. The floor, the walls and the whole interior is covert with balsamic tree which is decorated with antique inlays. Everything is a bit melancholic but warm and cozy at the same time. At the salon there is a fireplace, and library with old books. The sheets of the books fray and the pages are turning yellow. The vanilla aroma of the disintegrating celluloid from the crumpling papers fills the room. And this aroma is mixed with the settled and flying dust. In this room there are armchairs and a sofa which are covered with soft leather. The corridor and some other places is overgrown by the vegetation. But the plants parched already, and the flowers faded. Everything whispers old forgotten memories. <3 It's a gorgeous & beautiful fragrance.

One of my favorite fragrances in the world. It carries the classic Oriza DNA, but with additional notes that create a truly cozy atmosphere. At first, I thought I detected a cinnamon note- or at least something distinctly spicy. The rich, warm benzoin-vanilla is present from the start, gradually becoming more pronounced in the dry down. The guaiac wood and leather elements are subtle but add a lovely twist to the composition. Cleanness is present from beginning to end. “Vintage” is the perfect word to describe Le Régent in every way, especially because the post-dry-down literally smells like an old book. Longevity and projection are amazing. In my mind, I picture a man wearing this, though objectively it’s completely unisex. Clean and cozy. I imagine my grandpa in the ’60s, sitting with his engineer friends, enjoying a cinnamon roll while discussing important topics- warm yet professional. Nostalgic and cozy, yet fresh and clean. Very unique. I truly think it has it all. 10/10.

This fragrance is filled with balsamic richness, yet it remains soft and gently sweet. The sweetness here is never cloying. It opens with a light herbal and clean sensation, which gradually fades to reveal a heart of benzoin and vanilla. There’s also a fresh woody note; not the usual “green” type in perfumery that adds depth and character. As the scent evolves, it becomes increasingly cozy and enveloping, almost like a comforting embrace. A wonderful choice for fans of balsamic vanillas. I believe this house has a distinct olfactory DNA that feels nostalgic and soapy; almost like a bath scene from Amélie Poulain, or something straight out of the whimsical universe of Jean-Pierre Jeunet. That whimsical, dreamy feeling is present in this scent as well. Soft pastels, a touch of fantasy, a fairytale-like atmosphere. One of the most beautiful, classy and comforting fragrances I've ever smelt. As an history and overall vintage lover, this is a match made in heaven: just a whiff takes you back to 18th century France. Suddenly I'm an aristocrat getting ready to go to a very private evening in a little salon of Versailles. The sweet powder scent is reminiscent of the heavy hair powdering of the time, whilst the basalm, oppoponax and benzoin remind me strongly of the little 18th century appartements; the wood, tapestries and the dust. To put it simply, this is sweet, powdery and creamy yet very classy. The bottle is gorgeous and I can't put into words how much I adore Oriza Legrand.

havent tried Many perfumes by oriza l. Legrand (only reve d'ossian, Horizon, chypre mousse and this wonder) but this one is the BEST without any doubt! This perfume goes un the same line than baccarat Rouge 540 by Francis kurkdjian, although the performance is a bit weaker. The smell is sweet, like sugar ir cotton Candy but over a clasic Cologne base. During the dry down the sweetness fades down and the perfume becomes a very subtle and elegant scent. I think this is an unisex perfume suitable for everyday use. If you like sweet perfumes this one worths a try! I haven't reviewed it since many years and again I took it today just to compare it with others Vanilla perfumes. I think it is very well down, very unique. It somewhat requires age to wear it to live up its disclosure. In my mind it is like a queen or a woman with power who treasures her words and everyone listens when she opens her mouth. Good duration like all other vanilla/resins perfumes. I won't buy it maybe it leans too female because my biased image comes in my mind today (the first experience I didn't have bias about the gender)

A heady combination of sweet resins and smoky wood that, much like my personal favourite from the house (Relique d'Amour) conjures more the image of a place than a person. There is an opulent, velvety dustiness to Le Régent that feels similar to Comme des Garçon's flawless Odeur du Théâtre du Châtelet Acte 1, even if their respective scent profiles are markedly distinct. Unlike Odeur's rose-scented opera box, Le Régent transports you to a Byronic stately home, with flurries of amber incense seeping into dark oak panels.

I kind of love this one. It smells like warm vanilla pudding to me. Like the vanilla scented cornstarch pudding mix I used to make with my grandma. It's not lactonic but it does have a warm milk feeling to me. Id imagine if I wore this I would smell like I've been coated in vanilla dust, not exactly edible but the comfort that vanilla brings. In my wildest dreams, this is what it would smell like if Aphrodite herself were to hug me.

This perfume is like pure catnip to me. There’s something so sweet yet not overbearing, nor too gourmand nor cloying that makes this a perfect everyday scent. The vanilla with the basalm and benzoin reads almost minty to me, so fresh and sweet! It’s not like anything else I’ve ever smelled. Additionally, this layers perfectly with florals if I am looking to add a little more interest to the scent profile. Overall, I’m obsessed.

Dries down to a cross between Guerlain Cuir Beluga and BDK Rouge smoking, and there’s no better way to describe this. Extremely smooth and sophisticated ambery, suedey vanilla with balsamic touches. Get your noses on this underrated gem! Moderate projection and lasts around 8 hours on me. 10/10

Sampled this quite a few months ago, glad it's made it above the surface of all the "niche" junk that's being peddled as fine fragrance lately. This is a plush, very rich oriental formula that cocooned me for many hours without much projection, which is fine for this kind of fragrance.

Balsamic resins heaven. This is very warm, cozy and very enveloping but never cloying. As usual, this house delivers elegance and refinement for a very good price considering the quality of the perfume. And as always, the packaging is beautiful. I love that brand

It smells like I just stepped out of a very expensive bath. The vanilla is very noticable but never overwhelming. I love the clean, soapy scent that stays almost all day. I occasionally pair it with Relique d’Amour. Will buy a full bottle eventually 8/10

With only one spray an instant beatific benzoin and opoponax with OLL's magic, elegantly composed images of flickering amber lights. One of my favorite releases last year. ADDICTIVE!

Bought a decant for my husband. Tried it in myself first, love. Tried it on him, love. He left the room a few minutes ago, but I can still smell it in the air. Great scent.

Smells like a Guerlain Shalimar flanker. Sweeter. Dark and mysterious. Really nice powdery dry down I think this would be better in the winter.

This is exactly how old school French Pharmacies smell like. Unsweet vanilla, balms and tinctures. Weirdly nostalgic to me.

This is a little bit soapy, and a lot bit powdery. The powder is unlike other cosmetic smelling powder perfumes in that the powder softly cradles the amber and the other resins in a soft and feminine way. I have not smelled anything like this ever before. I LOVE the drydown on my skin a lot where it turns creamy and the powder subsides and it lingers gently on the skin with resins and warmth. its not a powerhouse by any means, but i like close-by fragrance. I am new to powdery aromas and usually turn up my nose at them, but this one is more than tolerable... I like it, even. A gateway powder scent for outdoorsy girls who like their ambers. I have a sample of Vaniglia by Mazzolari and they layer VERY well together. I'd love to try and layer it with a floral too! edit** I'm hoping that this mellows out over the next year and becomes just a bit less of a powderbomb for me as I really like the resinous dry down and I like it in theory but the powder actually is quite a lot, now that I've worn it a few times.

Discovered this brand thank to the lovely man that owns the first niche boutique in Paris. It is a beautiful bottle, beautiful packaging and fair price (150EU for 120ml), along with the history for the brand it does make you appreciate the scents more. I was able to smell all of them but this one is absolutely amazing. I love it, but my boyfriend says that it is not for everyday wear since it is strong (this is the one of the two I tested on my skin). Regarding the smell, it starts with a fresh clean scent, slightly lactonic. It turns into a beautiful sweet vanilla scent, with a touch of clean florals. I do recommend it, but three hours afterwards it smells less sweet and more "perfumey", kind of like the old perfumes from our grandmothers, which makes sense since it was developed in 1720. I will still purchase in due time, as I think it suits older women than I more.

The first smell is an overdose of balsamic notes with medicinal and spicy undertones, and supported by floral and green notes. Slowly it turns into a more envelopping and hazy fragrance with mimosa and ambre gris. The ambre gris is rather quiet, it adds the right amount of warmth and depth, but as I am sensitive to this note it can feel slightly disturbing to me at times. I am amazed at how Oriza Legrand perfumes are so complementary to the skin. They do smell old school but, unlike some more modern fragrances, you can sense that these perfumes were actually thought to be worn and not just smell attractive on paper. Overall I like this fragrance, as I am a sucker for high amounts of balsamic notes. Personnally I don't smell the leather but I don't mind.

Very pleasant fragrance. Smooth, soft, warm, balsamic, slightly sweet. Feels simple, but has depth. I can sort of understand the playdough comment, but that vibe really doesn't bother me. It's only there if I actively envision it. It could just as well be described as a dry, nutty aspect. Projection is good, longevity is awesome, price is great (for niche). The only drawback with this fragrance for me is that it definitely leans feminine. It sort of reminds me of something my mother would wear. For that reason alone I probably wouldn't buy this for myself... Other than that this is a pretty great fragrance in the category of warm and resinous vanilla.

I never felt in love with a vanilla fragrance until I tested this one. It's so comforting and sweet but not boozy and not too powdery. Magnifique. Give this one at least 20 minutes to develop. I wish there were more houses that don't shy away from more old-fashioned approach to perfumery. I think this is my new favourite perfume house, and everyone who is into vintage fashion, history, antiques, classical music etc should give it a try.

This is really very nice. Le Regent seems like an apt name because it feels very decadent yet it also has a comforting quality. The opening has a unique, herby, slightly medicinal scent to it, like what I’d imagine an apothecary would smell like. Although not in the notes, after a while I sort of got a vintage floral feel from it. Eventually it settles down into a muted and warm vanilla. Vaguely reminiscent of Shalimar, but less bold.

Between Guerlïnade and Armenian paper, rich but light – powdery, almondy and slightly leathery notes that install on the skin a soft and thick trail like a 18th century make-up, with a palpable, almost tactile richness.

This is a bar of vanilla soap in an old Victorian house that's been turned into an antique shop, iykyk. I don’t know what is making this soapy, but if you don’t like soapy fragrances, you won’t like this. Resinous without any warmth; you could wear this in the summer. It's strange, and vintage-ish, and I like it.

Underrated banger. Absolutely stunning resiny opening that takes its sweet meandering time drying down to the perfect lightly vanillic amber. Blended beautifully with no sharp edges, lasts 10+ hours on skin with polite but present sillage.

a sticky, rich vanilla - resinous and gorgeous. the smell of walking into a hidden antique store, heavy with lacquered furniture, light with dust, and frozen in time.

evanescent translucent amber frag. i was expecting this to have a much thicker presence but it sorts of feel reminiscent of scented resinous smoke. really beautiful.

a very sweet, comforting scent, but it makes me feel transported to a world of decadence all the same. quite old-school and velvety vanilla, great stuff

Too sweet and feminine for me but gorgeous, opulent and very French!

Opens very medicinal on my skin, unfortunately. For some reason, almost like camphor, even though it isn't a note here. Then very quickly dries down to a faint vanilla scent. I think this is a case of mismatch between the fragrance and my skin chemistry... Pity, I really thought I would love it based on the notes.

This is my 2nd favourite from this house after Chypre Mouse. This is decadent, syrupy, rich, gooey molten balsam, like a caramelised amber (golden, not green) sap of a mystical, magical tree used by fae and witches. It is sweetened with a slightly powdery vanilla weaving through this resinous goo that makes this concoction absolutely mouth watering in an almost gourmand way, like a witchy maple syrup dusted with moth wing dust icing. It is a little vintage but not in your 'grandmothers way' but in a 'this was found inside a locked wooden drawer of an antique cabinet in a dusty attic' kind of way. People below me also commented it is slightly medicinal, I do see what they mean not that I would have mentioned that because I naturally enjoy those witchy/apothecary notes so am not hyper aware of when they are in a fragrance unless it is obnoxiously loud, which in this, it is not. This is also one of the few fragrances that I found peaks after about 30 minutes of application to it's truest beauty and then after an hour becomes less caramelised and more dusty, like vanilla dust in said attic settling on fragrant rose and mahagony woods. Overall it is a soft, comforting fragrance, not harsh or screechy and is a golden brown fragrance instead of green. It really is an unusual and cozy fragrance. If you like the vibes of Zoologists Moth or Io Non Ho Mani by Fillipo Sorcinelli, you will like this one 🥰 *Editing to add that I do not get any soapy qualties to this whatsoever

Delicious. So pleasant. Hard for anyone not to like this one. Seeing some saying it’s so strong and old school. lol no way!? Maybe only if you have until now only smelled the new age ambroxan fruity gourmand saffron stuff, but in no way is this ‘strong’ like that. It’s almost like one of those ‘petit’ type baby fragrances. In a good way. I’m surprised there’s no heliotrope note listed, I guess the vanilla, tolu and benzoin can weirdly give that similar vibe. It’s like that candied violety, irisy, vannilic heliotropin vibe, not your typical resinous balsamic fragrance. But then the dry down is that root beer vibe, usually from the tolu. Guerlain vibes! Gorgeous! 7/10 I have to say though BDK Parfums Rouge Smoking is almost identical and a bit stronger.

Okay, I love this. It really is similar to Sylvaine Delacourte's Florentina, though, and I own that one already. Still, Le Regent is so beautiful too: Milky vanilla, resinous benzoin, tart notes that make me think of orange blossom...I want to bathe in this. It dries to vanilla custard with warm tart notes. But it's so much like my beloved Florentina that I tried them side by side. Le Regent starts more custard-like and vanilla rich than Fl; the middle is 100% Florentina, and dry down is more woody, and a bit less like Florentina, which makes me want maybe a large decant. But it’s so similar to Florentina, that I don’t really need it, even though I might try for that large decant anyway. Delicious.

The opening of Le Regent is a blissful cloud of the most powdery amber. Just benzoin, tolu, and vanilla harmonizing together masterfully. As we descend into the cloud, light tinges of complexity join the fugue, ...because we simply must be sophisticated about this. Smoky wood, soft leather, lemony unlit frankincense, ...and that most refined of salty tangs, ambergris. (sigh) It gets so soft at the end. This is very nice stuff. ...and to think this formula dates back to 1720! Have we really improved anything since then?

Very beautiful, but somewhat soapy. I'm confused. I really like it, but it so much reminds me of some oldschool hotel soaps you got from hotel rooms is little plastic covers in southern Europe some 25+ years ago. My mind goes circlers from I want this to I don't want to smell like vintage soap. It's sweet, but not overly sweet. I get also a lots of marzipan. Some flowery notes which I cannot identify, very soft woods. Love it. Maybe I would like to smell like this particular vintage soap.

To me this is like a non-gourmand vanilla. The Balsam makes it feel like a pearlescent potion swirling around you, but it's not something you would ever drink. Seconding below, it sticks around forever as a skin scent once the sillage goes down after maybe 8 hours. Very linear, I do think it gets a little tiring after a while, so I certainly wouldn't want to wear it as a signature!

Lactonic vanilla, balsamic, round, satiating without being overwhelming. It has a spicy dimension that provides a slightly refreshing quality, especially in the first hour, and is reminiscent of the vanilla of the Sultanate of Saba. I also see an accord close to cocoa mixed with vanilla. Very powdery, more and more as time goes by, very creamy.

There is definitely Orange Blossom in here, lots of it. Otherwise I would like it: old library dusty and powdery vanilla with masculine character despite its sweetness and lipstick type of Amber. Dina_France (YouTube perfume reviews)

Fabulous velvety amber not gourmand vanilla scent. To my nose it’s slightly creamy yet powdery. Difficult to explain...it’s very elegant but not old or stiff and not loud. It unique and cozy. A love for me.

Starts off very vintage and powdery but the dry down is very yum. The vanilla and balsam give it an almost honey like quality. Sweet without being sickly. I adore.

That's a whole lotta amber notes! Tied with palo santo? Ok, where do I get this or even better find a sample of this gold?
