Scotch Lavender

Scotch Lavender has the most stunning lavender opening I've ever smelled. The first 20 minutes after spraying are a pure lavender dream 😴💭🫧 The lavender here is super charged and smells as if it was just harvested. I live next to a lavender farm and this reminds me of my last visit where I bought fresh lavender sachets, linen sprays, and freshly baked lavender cookies 🪻🍪🤤 The lavender here feels ultra-realistic, not just another component in a fougère accord. After the opening fades, I'm left with predominantly benzoin, which imparts a powdery warmth to the amber accord. Tonka and subtle hints of lavender and geranium linger in the background. The dry-down feels quite different from what I’m used to (so far, I’ve only seen Oriza L. Legrand use benzoin this liberally). I'm conflicted, I love this a lot but the magic is in that transportive beginning 🖼️ I still think the dry down is pretty though, I may add this to my wish list... 🤔

The initial blast of lavender with the sweet resins underneath made this open like Pour Un Homme, but it very quickly becomes something else. The lavender (which seems very natural) gives way to the resins and tonka underneath, which create a buttery, candied base that it slightly (and not unpleasantly) medicinal, which makes the whole thing seem like lavender butterscotch. As always with Oriza L . LeGrand, you're getting something you think will smell like something else but is entirely its own thing. This is especially gentlemanly, though of course anyone could wear it; it's not as powerful as I'd like, but that might make it better for the office. (This would be a great signature scent.) Light enough to wear in warm weather, although the sweetness would also make it good for cold days too.

I have a sample set from Oriza L. Legrand and Scotch Lavender is my favourite so far, with Reve d'Ossian coming in as second. Scotch Lavender is the perfect lavender scent, and I am a great lavender lover! Where Molinard Lavande is loud, generic and two dimensional, Scotch Lavender is quirky and intimate, yet opening to vast and mysterious fields. Medicinal and herbal true lavender at first, but later more soapy, smokey and ambery balmy. Scotch Lavande seems like Jicky's modern cousin, not too close, but the kinship is definitely there. As all my Oriza L. Legrand samples, Scotch Lavender has that unmistakable undertone that is more than a scent: it sets a mood, and invites you in to another room. I will end my lavender hunt here and buy a full 100 ml. bottle!

Scotch Lavander is the perfect unisex scent, as it shows an interesting transformation from more masculine to more feminine characteristics. It starts off cool and herbal, with a medicine-like lavender note that is pretty strong. Also, it smells slightly boozey, but more in the sense of medical alcohol (for those who know it: rather like Franzbranntwein than desinfectant), which I enjoy. Over the time it completely changes in character and becomes soft, even slightly powdery; I definitely get a lot of geranium and tonka with just a faint undertone of amber. This scent is easy to wear - if you can appreciate the vividly herbal opening - and a nice choice for every day. Moderate sillage. I would recommend it.

This is a masterpiece of lavender, geranium, tonka and vetiver. Scotch Lavender has become one of my favourite lavender scents, knowing that i probably have 40~50 lavender based scents in my collection. It is both sparkling, a bit bracing but also very soothing and deep. I like to wear it at night but also fresh in the morning to start the say. It is a crowd pleaser with my wife and kids too.

All year long scent to me. The lavender is strong at first and if worn outside, fades fast, which is sometimes a shame. However, the scotch lingers, and it's a lovely, woody, "golden" scent. It's a pick for me when I need something cozy, familiar and not overwhelming.

This is described on their website as a fashionable dandy fragrance; I am the dandy and this was made for me. Delicate and soft and beautiful and very much makes me feel like a pretty, flowery, little dandy.

Scotch Lavender by Oriza L. Legrand, First Impression It is pretty much understandable as this is somewhat miss-leading name. This is actually age-old Fougere in very classic format, when there is no modern material. Like a suggestion from brand the "Fougere" accord from late 19th century. Refers as first ever "Fougere" creation, Houbigant - Fougere Royale (1882). Mixture of Bergamot, Lanveder and Tonga bean = "The Fougere accord" The context of "Scotch Lavender" is pretty much more understandable if it refers as "Lavender & Amber" Very brief citrus moment in a millisecond time, before Lavender introduce himself, Extra dose of "Lavender" create that soft relaxing could with slight green/aromatic ambient, metallic lavender, Round out to be "Powdery amber" later develop into powdery heart/end in late well-developed structured fougere fragrance. This is as true as barebones "Fougere" can be, an enlightenment. In this, I believe this use real Lavender, it is not Lavendin - the Lavender replica material. Or at least, lavender than lavendin, Otherwise will be more earthy than this, This is lavender and it is relaxing. As usual work from Oriza L. Legard naturalistic smell, old and beautifully crafted. However, from modern fragrance point of view. the smell of Lavender extract on softly sweeten Tonka bean, softly balsamic and powdery powder (Labdanum) based might be too push for someone to call "a fragrance" now a day, in the same time this is personal enjoyment as a glimpse of candlelight how might "the Fragrance from late 1900 smell like." I think this is worth at least a sniff or try. Ps. I spray this before I have a little walk at the beach. When I return to my room, my look smell very nice.. Like soft resinous veil of lavender, somehow I think of Jersey, Chanel (but soft & amber) I can't say this is my kind of Fougere. Because I like the re-rendition very Herbaceous dn fresh one like Paco pour Homme. This do it own thing, in it own time. It is fougere, but it is deadly not a barbershop scent. Not at all... === 6 hours pass === Very addictive. Reinvent old-Fougere. "We use to think that Oakmoss is important part of Fougere. But no... Amber Fougere, don't need one" That powdery heart is proof.

The initial lovely rich lavender - from the dark crushed stem to bright medicinal astringent beautifully captured only takes an hour to devolve into a dusty slightly dark tonka covered with just a tinge of sweet purple lavender and it’s not strong at that... kinda like an old ladies powder puff... Hmmm may revisit this review but a definite meh for now... EDIT: Update, so I’ve become drawn to this. It’s still a case of not quite value v price but it is above average. I like it more so because in winter here atm I find it quite unadulterated as a lavender - just a quality performer, fresh, medicinal and purple. My complaint is definitively that the lavender aspect doesn’t last long enough and it becomes tonka ride fairly early. In this respect TF Lavender Extreme is still better and one of the best Lavender let alone best perfumes out there full stop! So, in the end why do I still enjoy it so now? Well unlike TF LE which the tonka and vanilla start rising under Lavender quite quickly and hang around this gives a decent run of the lavender before a noticeable morph takes place and during that initial run I like the lavender more than the usual go tos of L’Occitane or Aesop. I actually enjoy the ‘switch’ that’s turned on at a certain point - and I respect that.

Incredibly beautiful lavender sachet from my grandmother’s closet assembled from modern materials under Oriza’s high quality standard with its recognizable house signature. Composition’s notes are well balanced, nothing sticks out, the top and the heart of the structure are subtly sweetened by benzoin and tonka which warms and blends the pot. Nice and refined unisex fougere. Loving it despite not being a lavender fan.

Almost identical to Pour Un Homme de Caron. Very lavender heavy with a vanilla base. The main difference is that Scotch Lavender seems to have an almond note in the middle (maybe heliotrope?), and it also has a fragrant, fresh spiciness that Caron doesn’t have. Both nice scents, but I prefer the calming nature of Pour Un Homme, this scent is slightly more lively and spicy.

I really like this perfume when it has just been applied. It's such a realistic and strong lavender, as if you've just picked a flower from a lavender bush and smell your hand. This is what I expected and wanted. There is some sweet buttery tonka accompanying the lavender, making it sweeter and gentler. However - unlike other Oriza perfumes, like Violettes de Czar, this changes quite dramatically. The lavender, which is so strong initially, lasts for a surprisingly short time and it turns into something quite different. If it had only faded and turned into an old-fashioned subdued tonka-lavender it would have been fine, but there is some issue with the herbal notes here and it does put me off this. The notes doesn't list patchouli, but it did spring to my mind when I tried this, I could be entirely wrong. I'd recommend getting a sample before buying.

Indeed Scotch for Scottish. And the name given by Oriza is Lavander not Lavender. Scotch Lavander. It is a beautiful lavender perfume for those who like this note, twisting to a warm benzoin-tonka-amber combo. Not for me but quite well done.

Agree with the reviewers below me. The warm-sweet Tonka-Amber accords bring out a cuminous element in the lavender.

Oh, no. Glad I did not blind buy a full bottle despite how much interest I had on it for a bit. The warmth and sweetness are not agreeing with the lavender for me. That tonka is intense, very vanillic. Not at all what I had in mind. I was interested because of the thyme, geranium and reported pine-ness. But I'm getting none. Tonka and amber drown everything out. It even gets slightly chocolatey after a bit. I have grown a lovely lavender variety called 'Kew Red', it has distinct burgundy flowers and also a distinct lavender scent, less medicinal and balsamic than most lavenders, with bright piney, lemony thyme-nuances. Not a fan of more typical lavender, but I love this variety and haven't found something that leans that way. I was hoping this would be that. Not even close. Diammetrical opposites. It's like a sprig of lavender put on a cane sugar bag. I wanted bright green, this is a flat out gourmand. Legitimately made me sad.

I don't get much (if any) lavender from this; it's more of a sickly-sweet concoction on my skin. I wish the bergamot and lavender notes were readable, because I was expecting a kind of muted floral Earl Grey perfume. Instead, the main note for me is a strong powdery scent, layered with the tonka bean, which overpowers the whole mixture... like if you snuck away at your kid's birthday party for 15 mins and tried to multitask eating a cupcake and changing the baby. Not great. It's very long lasting, strong sillage, reads more feminine than masculine to me, but might work on a more effeminate or delicate man. Not for me though.

I can tell and I know this is a refined and sophisticated perfume but it smells cheap and somewhat metallic on my skin- someone described picking up a fresh lavender and I agree. I do pick up on the vanilla-resin benzoin note on the drydown but it doesn't develop into anything special on my skin. Shame because on paper I'd really enjoy this!

Scotch Lavender highlights the most aromatic facets of lavender, but there’s more to it. It feels like opening an antique chest of drawers in an old countryside mansion—the overwhelming scent of lavender sachets, the warmth of cashmere sweaters, and the resinous woodiness of the drawers all come together.

Awful stuff on me. Starts out with pure and almost medicinal lavender in the top and then morphs into a sweet Vanilla custard mess, which is pretty much the only note I get after 10 minutes. CLearly not something that most men would wear. More feminine leaning.

Lavender bomb with geranium greenness and a cumin-adjacent background note that, rather than smelling like sweat, reminds me of vomit. I wrote in my review of "Foin Fraichement Coupe" that it was my least favorite, but it has since been dethroned by this one.

Stinky lavender. I really don't like tonka.

Smells old. Like stale cigarette smoke still clinging to the walls of an old pub years after the indoor smoking ban, covered with a lavender spray or fizzy lavender chemical cleaning solution. Spray too much of this and it will smell like wet white mold cheese. The lavender is in the same vein as Pour un Homme de Caron and Molinard Lavande, but this is clearly worse.

They found a way to make lavender smell bitter and dirty.

I've had really good luck with this house. After sampling Scotch Lavender, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a full bottle at some point, but honestly, I've been frequenting houses that offer 50ml or travel sizes this past year, for economic reasons. This is available as a soap, so maybe I'll just do that. The double dose of lavenders is quite intoxicating and refreshing during the opening. I'm also taken with OLG's use of benzoin here, that comes in much later, and warms up everything. Benzoin is similarly featured in Reve D'Ossian and Empire des Indes, which I love as well. Because of the lavender and geranium/vetiver, there is somewhat of a clean, soapy vibe, that I also get with Violettes du Tzar, right out of the shower or tub. Geez, I could go on about more of my favs of this house, but I'll just end this review by saying Scotch Lavender is hitting all my aromatic fougere buttons and is lighting me up like a Christmas tree. There's a tendency to spray more, after the first 2-hour fresh and potent, lightly camphorous lavender bomb, but i don't, I just let the perfume take it's course, the cozy resins and the sweet tonka kick in later in the timeline, in a major way, retaining a lavender glow. More than perceptible on cotton, after 24+ hours, so the longevity is solidly there, but I would not categorize this as a beastly scent. For projection/sillage, may require 4 or 5 sprays, but 2 sprays I believe would suffice for office, with maybe a refresher at the 3-4 hour mark.

With a name like Scotch Lavender, I was expecting a full-bore lavender fougere, rough as Harris tweed. ...but it really isn't like that at all. If that's all you seek, continue on to greener pastures. Instead what comes is a strangely light and high-toned, lavender, further accented with thyme. These Lamiaceous aromatics collide like ghosts with an equally enlightened, ambery tonka. These two such differently airy spirits seem to partly neutralize each other. While rose adds additional sweetness, but only modestly so. So what we have here is a fairly uncommon lavender & tonka amber cologne. Something to wear when a subtle distinction from more obvious choices is sought. Based on a formula from 1884, according to Oriza L. Legrand.

Lavender is my signature heart note, and this one is wonderful—almost camphorous, almost salty. As beautiful and pure as if it were growing in my garden and I had just rubbed my hands through that little silvery bush. The soft amber base—super comforting and absolutely to die for (no surprise with the tonka x amber accord x benzoin combo)—completely breaks away from any “basic essential oil” feel, and its satiny texture makes it an olfactory delight. It's stunning in its finesse and refinement, and a serious contender to Pour un Homme by Caron.

The lavender aroma is just stunning. Nothing stands out, and the top and centre of the structure are softly sweetened by benzoin and tonka, which warms and mixes the pot. Unisex fougere that is nice and sophisticated. It starts out chilly and herbal, with a distinct medicine-like lavender note. It also has a somewhat alcoholic aroma. This fragrance is simple to wear. Silage is modest, and lifespan is exceptional. This is a work of art combining lavender, geranium, tonka, and vetiver.

very much just lavender....that takes an unfortunate turn after the initial dry-down, and develops a mothball-like quality that i'm not exactly going for when wearing a perfume. i could see this wearing beautifully on someone else though!!

I don't get the lavender, I can smell really strong pine in the beginning. Then it dries down to a slightly spicy cinammon, similar to Empire des Indes from the same brand.

Scotch as in Scotland, not Scotch as in whisky from Scotland. There is no whisky note in the blend.
