Villa Lympia

Mmm .. This is a strange little thing .realy summery and perfect for the ocean site. Smells of Imortelle ,Honeyed sweetnes herbal slightly anis almondy , It reminds me off almond smell . Very airy and uplifting. makes me think of freshly dryed linnen in the wind by the seaside. or warm towls on the beach a bit of seasalt in the air .But not to much algeas and beachside ,driftwood and such . More like a day by the sea in clean cloaths and sunrayes on your skin. Not very serious . its a playfull , romantic .but still serious somehow . A true gem for a summer holiday ,to buy and wear on holiday and save up later to remind youme of that time. This is unik and different to what im used to anyway . Medium strength . Lasts about 6-8 hours on skin " summer time when the living is easy .." would be a good team song for this one . It just dawned on me ,this has something in it that reminds me of Brighton rock Miller Harris ,a bit of that same playdough vibe and salt sea. I love them bouth . different enought to have bouth IMO. this is more beachy bathing kind of scent .

The actual notes: Top notes - Maritime pine and mimosa. Heart notes - Sea spray/sea foam, rush (plants) and sea salt. Base notes - Helychrysum, linen and algae. This has a lot of rather bad reviews, but I don't agree with them one bit. This is amazing in my opinion. It smells like standing on top of a cliff by the shore in France. The sea breeze plays with your clothes and your hair, and you can hear the waves crash angainst the beach below. It's salty, refreshing with a hint of mimosa, and then it turns more into a pure saltwater smell, like you dive from the cliff and let the ocean embrace you with it's cool waves and swaying seaweed. In the drydown it smells like your skin after a long day at the beach - warm, salty and summery. It's gorgeous! Longevity is great on my skin, it lasts more than 8 hours. Sillage is pretty great as well, it starts rather strong, but dries down to a solid medium. In the last hours on the skin it is a pleasant skin scent.

Love, love, love this. Deeply nostalgic having grown up around the beach my whole life. This smells exactly like you do after you've spent a long day at the beach after a boozy brunch of mostly mimosa and the sun has baked the sea salt, sun screen, and sand into your skin which has all become mixed together into one thing "Beach" that starts to waft off you as begin lightly sweating on the trek back across the hot sand back home. You are telling me I get to just spray that on myself whenever I want without having to actually spend all day building up to it? Incredible.

At first I smell ozonic floral notes and a sweet and heavy resinous base. The mimosa here is bare floral, very different from what I've smelled in other perfumes. This floral note weakens with time and the fragrance finally becomes a beautiful evocation of sand. To be honest I wasn't impressed at first but now, after wearing it, I love it. It gave me a pleasant impression of warmth, as if sea water had dried on my skin on a hot summer day.

I agree 100% with TIWALII, let me just add that both flaxseed/linseed oil and immortelle (Helichrysum) are prominent base notes. summer in a bottle

Smells like a beach day in the French Riviera. I love the sunscreen note.

Okay, now for my third little sample out of my trial box from this brand... Huh... this is a vacation at the ocean neatly filled into a bottle... well... a vacation at the ocean, where your hotel also has a pool. The opening of this is a very modern unisex aquatic, a slightly metallic scent of pool water on hot summer skin. It's only during the drydown that crystalline sea salt starts tickling the back of your nose. And the more it warms up on your skin the more there's a perception of warm sand - oh do I love me a good sand note mhmm - mingling with a soft powdery aroma of small-petalled yellow florals. It's your hot summer skin after a day spent at the water. Despite it not being very sweet I do perceive it more as feminine. It's rather intimate, but that will certainly also depend on how heavy you're layering it on. Generally, though, it doesn't feel perfume-y at all to me. I really feel if you wear this people might not be realizing you're even wearing a perfume. Granted you look the part - tanned skin, bare shoulders etc - you might just seem like an embodiment of summer. There is no attempt of retro-ness in this fragrance imo. This is really an impressionist attempt of capturing a summer spent at the ocean. I like it quite a lot, but I'm not sure I would go for a full bottle yet. I'm just not sure I want to smell like a beach vacation day on a daily ;) Great work though creatively.

This is the most charming fragrance in the sample set I have. Interestingly, I already have a doppelgänger of this scent: Black Sea by Pazzaglia. I haven’t quite been able to separate the two in my mind; maybe I don’t need to... Anyway, this perfume is a salty, slightly floral marine scent. If I were to get a second full bottle (other than Relique), it would probably be either this or Le Regent. It’s incredibly easy to wear. Every time I try it, I’m instantly transported to the seaside. And not just any seaside; this one feels more like the salty shores of the Aegean rather than the Mediterranean. The sand of the Aegean just fits this fragrance better. The longevity is quite impressive; I could still smell it well into the evening after applying it in the morning. Oddly enough, my nose kept expecting something like benzoin or vanilla among the notes, but apparently neither is listed. My beloved summer fragrance... I can’t get over Oriza’s creations. Each one I try charms me more than the last, and then that nostalgic atmosphere pulls me back in all over again. Look at the notes and imagine them blended in the softest, most natural-smelling, vintage, calming style. The yellow florals are what guide this fragrance in a serene, relaxing direction. The Mediterranean coastline, a book, salty skin, reading in the shade of a tree... Don’t be afraid of the seaweed note, as it is incorporated in a subtle, salty, warm-spicy way. I once tried a Japanese seaweed spice that is sometimes used instead of salt, and it smells exactly like that- in the best possible way. In conclusion, it is herbal, salty, yellow-floral, and only slightly sweet. It is calming, bright, and aromatic. Another absolute masterpiece from this amazing house.

I first received my sample box in 2022. I remember smelling Villa Lympia and hating it, as there was a strange strong metallic shampoo note in there. Fast forward to 2025, on a hot summer day I randomly thought about giving this one another chance... So I dug up my old sample box and sprayed away... What a surprise. Perhaps my sample needed to mature because I'm no longer getting the weird metallic shampoo note. Villa Lympia smells like a your skin after a long day at the beach... The sunscreen melted into your skin, the saltiness of the sea after a swim, the warm sand. Like most Oriza fragrances, it's also powdery. This is such a sexy scent but in a classy and discreet way. Oriza Legrand never disappoints.

This has the same vibes as so many summer fragrances I’ve tried but is composed with twice the restraint and therefore just oozes refinement, despite being osmically easygoing. Salty, hazy, sweet summer air. Sunbeams and sandy skin. Wind through palm leaves and white fluttering fabric.

fully marine, sandy opening. then it becomes a floral leaning more on the feminine. the mimosa takes over and covers the splendid marine notes of the opening which is unfortunately very short. good performance for the summer heat. 7/10

A pin-up mermaid is trying to seduce your surfer boyfriend in the line-up while you’re watching helplessly from the shore, a heatstroke fast approaching. (Gives me a headache but I can’t stop sniffing!!!)

The odd one out among Oriza L Legrand perfumes. Fresh and simple; makes me think of sea foam and shaving cream. It's pleasant, if a bit boring.

the high quality of oriza is present and felt.

nothing but soap and shampoo! my search for an interesting but pretty marine scent remains fruitless still....

I was excited when i first head about thi coming out, because I enjoyed many of the Oriza L Legrand perfumes, and working my way through my sample box from the house was great fun and very interesting - I experienced scents unlike any others I have smelled before or since. So I added this new scent to my test list, and recently acquired an official sample of Villa Lympia. Prior to sampling it I was of two minds, on the one hand I generally don't really enjoy any kind of aquatic or marine centred perfumes, I just don't find them particularly appealing or pleasing, they don't seem to work for me. On the other hand I had enjoyed many scents from this house, and some of them smelled nothing close to what I'd imagined before testing them, based on notes lists, reviews, and associated imagery. Also, Mimosa is a note of growing interest for me, and it's inclusion here did manage to outweigh some of my watery concerns. Sadly though this just did not work for me at all. I found it a strange composition that unfortunately just did not sit well on me or for me. I didn't really get a prominent mimosa scent at all sadly, the sea notes were indistinct and although I kind of got some sand it was only becuase I knew it was supposed to be there to look for it, and also sadly the "sand" I'd found didn't smell too good either. Actually reminded me more of builders plaster, when it has just been applied and is still damp. Overall I got a sort of muddled combination of the damp plaster smell, along with a weird plasticky-rubbery sort of a smell, with an undertone I didn't like at all. I thought it smelled like a new tennis ball, in a newly plastered room, and also quite a bit like The Soft Lawn from Imaginary Authors. Not for me

I love Reve d'Ossian and was keen to try this one, as it sounded very unusual. But I agree with kishka, it just doesn't work. I too get a light and slightly plasticky floral, not enough of the sea...

The main marketing concept of Oriza L. Legrand is that, like Epimetheus, it looks backwards and revisits the lost and forgotten perfume formulae of previous decades or centuries, thereby giving each wearer or sampler an olfactory history lesson about le parfums d'ancienne in every spray, ...such a brilliantly anachronistic raison d'etre is also, for me, the brand's chief appeal. ...and then there is Villa Lympia, first created so long, long ago in ...2016?!? Understand that the next most recently created Oriza L. Legrand formula dates from 1937. Why on Earth does Villa Lympia even exist? ...other than for reasons like profit and market share, of course. Furthermore, Villa Lympia is not just young in age, but new in style. Its chief listed notes are Sea (saltwater, air) and Sand (minerality), to which I will also add Solar (sunscreen). Yes this is one of those modern beach-ready scents like Maison Margiela's Beach Walk or Phlur's Solar Power. However the notes that sweeten, salve, and save this from oblivion are ones with greater historical value in perfumery (one is listed, two are not): mimosa, bergamot (in the opening), caramel (ethyl maltol in the drydown). - Yes, some will say noticeable ethyl maltol in perfumes only goes back to the early 90's (Angel, etc.), but still... I'm still not fully on board with such sun, sea, & sand scents, but perhaps my resistance is wearing down because Villa Lympia does smell quite soothing, in December, far from the beach. The citric, salty breeze opening feels like the invigoration when first arriving seaside and the sweet, floral dusty-sandy suncreen drydown recalls the semiconscious langour of a sunbathing fugue state. So there you have it, Villa Lympia's existence makes no real sense brand-wise, but who really cares? It is pleasant-enough; a lightly escapist fragrance that some may easily choose when mood and setting call for it.

Villa Lympia has captivated me! I’m not a big fan of marine scents (in fact, I don’t even own one in my collection), but this could easily be the first! Yes, it’s marine, but not in an overly briny or harsh way, it’s more like a sea breeze reaching the balcony of a noble summer residence, blending with the scent of flowers from the garden and the palace’s curtains. It has a lovely powdery nuance, clearly noticeable yet never overwhelming the delicate nature of the marine notes. It evokes me the image of Empress Sisi escaping the rigid etiquette of her palace in Vienna to find refuge in her beloved palace in Miramare... Here, she can wander freely and read again all the melancholic thoughts she once wrote. To me, it feels vintage, yet with an unconscious touch of modernity at the same time. Perhaps that’s why I associate it so well with the legendary figure of Elisabeth. 🤍 For dreamers—an absolute marine must-have. Song: “A den Frühling” by Edvard Grieg, but I could change my mind and find a more fitting one soon.
