Casaque Femme

This review is for the vintage Casaque parfum, by Jean D'Albret, which I have in the original half-ounce, crystal-stopped flacon. (The perfume came out in '56, the EDT in '57.) Mine may be missing the top notes: lily of the valley, jasmine, and rose dominate. Even so, the fragrance is beautiful. Lilies of the valley grew in my yard when I was a kid, and this perfume transports me back to suburban Detroit in the '70s, overlayed with the fantasy (for me) of a French garden party in the '50s. A little confusing, but I'm into it. Société Française des Parfumeurs Paris categorizes Casaque as a floral-aldehyde, with the dryness of powder. Jean D'Albret was founded in 1946 by French Count Guillaume d'Ornano (a French horse race is named after him) and his sons Hubert and Michel. Jean D'Albret was their head perfumer. Within a year, they added the sub-brand Orlane for their skincare products. In the mid-1970s, Jean d'Albret perfumes were rebranded as Orlane fragrances, before they were discontinued and vanished from the market.

So , i got hold of the Orlane new version Casaque ( formerly by Jean D'albret ) at a very cheap price . and it seems that the cheapness has been also transfered to the fragance. it tries to mimic the classic casaque at the beggining , but at first spray it has this disgusting bug spray note , like a very chemical mess , not found in the original fragance ( i have a vintage mini to compare ). once it starts going into the drydown , it looses this horrible note at the beggining and starts resemble original casaque , but still its not the same. the drydown and final notes are similar to the original fragance . lasting power is horrible , it lasted like 1 to 2 hours on my skin. it resembles another cheap fragance : design by paul sebastian , but that one is a litttle bit more powerful. if youre looking for the reissue of the original casaque , look elswhere , but if you want something that is kinda of similar ,you might want to get it. altought you first will have to put up with the horrible opening.
