Sea of Light

I've been converted. I love this now. It's still a bit too masculine for me to be comfortable wearing, but I scent my room with it. The first 5-10 minutes are a bit sharp. I think that's the citrus. After that it softens slightly and becomes a deep, clean marine-y scent with something very pleasant in the base coming through. I thought it was ambergris, but I don't see that in the notes, so it must be something else. The sillage and longevity are excellent. This is my second review of this. The other was my first impressions. This is after using it for several weeks. Initially I had a sample. Then I got several more samples (till my supplier ran out). Then I got a bottle. Okay, packaging. The boxing for the full bottle is impressive. I wasn't sure what to expect because in the photos these bottles look plastic, like the disposable shampoo vials you get at a cheap hotel. But the bottle is actually ceramic or something like that and heavy. So, better in real life than in the photos. But still kinda ugly. I went to the website for this brand and was sort of astonished to see that they have a DIY wordpress site. Pretty bad. I think they need to devote some resources to design 😲.

I loved the *name* of this before I understood that it was a connection to a famous jewel. If I allow myself to forget that I can still appreciate the romance and mystery of "sea of light." Unfortunately, I didn't love the fragrance. It's unisex, but to me it's quite masculine and very potent. It's not an offensive scent, but to me it's quite overpowering, and definitely not a scent I feel would suit most women (at least not this one). I'm no expert on notes, but my own experience is that the marine and aromatic notes are the most dominant with a bit of freshness, but I didn't really detect any of the citrus or fruity notes. EDIT: I ended up trying to wash this off, but it was so strong that it didn't come off and then lasted another 8+ hours. By the end of that I had decided that I actually thought this was a good fragrance for a man, that is, one I'd enjoy on someone else if only it wasn't so strong. I should also mention that I tested this using a sample. When it arrived, the vial was less than half full. I gather that may mean that the sample had partially evaporated so it's possible that I didn't really get the scent as it was intended to be...

I bought a sample a few yrs ago from a decant shop and thought I’d found the greatest scent for me. My husband really loved it and scent is very important to him since he’s blind . We decided to splurge on a whole bottle for my 60th birthday and I was so happy . I’d not heard it was redone 😳 So nonplussed now it smells nothing at all like the original! It’s not terrible but reminds me of men’s shaving cream. I wish I’d bought the bottle before they changed it! I cannot understand why Orlov did that. The original was exquisite.

Very nice citrus-aquatic that smells amazing! The citruses are more on the sweet/juicy side, resting on a fresh aquatic (no sea weed thank god) and slightly salty base. Beware tho as the fragrance recently was re-released in a ”Rebirth Edition”, that is a completely different scent!

this is good for a fresh aquatic.. alot different then typical freshies... definitely a hit when i blind bought this.. 10/10 perfect

A beautiful, fresh citrus aquatic that dries down to a kind of sea breeze and vaguely feminine, soft fuzzy peach. If you like your aquatics very salty this isn’t for you has a kind of light fruity nature, don’t get me wrong the sea is certainly evoked but it’s very much in the background. You can tell the ingredients are quality and the blend of notes is good, just not the most inspiring piece in the world for me. Enjoy the smell though, lots to like.

Decent overall. Sits pretty close to the skin. Has a green type of cleanliness to it. All notes are present, though I will say I think the peach softens it up a bit too much for me... takes away some of the brightness I think it needs. Overall, a like, but not a love. Fairly casual, day time, office safe. Unisex as well. Nowhere near worth msrp, but an ok pick at a steep discount.

I like it so much! It's not a love, at the moment, but very strong LIKE. I tried Sea of Light in winter time - (around 0 degrees C) - it's fresh, citrusy, salty, crispy and very airy and light. Safe for office. I will try it in spring/summer time. I think - it could be Love. But need to wait till spring. Worth a try.

Testing a sample size spray. Pleasant to wear. A balanced combo of citrus and stone fruits made fresh/aquatic without too much salt or musk. I don't love it enough to consider buying a FB because of the cost and I have suitable similar frags on hand.

Another generic uninspiring and poorly performing fragrance from Orlov. Presentation is worth $59 I paid for it, fragrance is not. Half of middle eastern clone houses $19-39 range frags smell and perform better. Out of 7 bottles of Orlov I've blindly bought because of deep-deep price cut at discount site only 2 are reaching "like" level. No wonder nobody talks about this house.

Smells mostly like shave foam, like a good barbershop. Or like a laundry detergent. And I can't feel citrus here, just a little bit of berries. Meh.

This stuff is fantastic in terms of smell. I can't speak to it's overall performance yet. It's my first wearing today and no one has noticed so far, even when sitting close. With the nature of these scents I doubt it would last too long though. The scent itself - It's bright, fruity, salty and a bit effervescent - all seamlessly blended, soft, understated and easily unisex. There isn't really one note from top to base that overwhelms the nose in any way. It's very much like kicking back while sipping a fizzy, virgin cocktail on the beach and getting a light mist of salt water from the crashing waves. With the subtle blending, I would maybe liken it more to a tonic water that has been infused with the fruits than something mixed with different fruit juices. I would put this in a similar category as scents like Heeley Sel Marin, Creed Erolfa, or maybe Millesime Imperiale..but less salty than Marin, and more fruity than all of them. In general, there is more going on in the notes. I could see this becoming a top pick, personally, for those times I might have reached for those others.

Che vergogna...prima versione che acquistai era favoloso, una colonia agrumata e fruttata brillantissima con nuance saline, elegantissima senza tempo, veramente luminosa ed inebriante! ....poi....ho avuto un flacone recente e pensavo addirittura fosse falso...che vergogna....una sorta di acquatico reso con foglie di violetta che ricordano una versione marina forse di fahrenheit....non è che faccia schifo ma non c'entra nulla con l'altro, più scuro, verde, maschile, amaro.....Orlov che caspita hai fatto?! Chi pensi di prendere per i fondelli??? Questo non è sea of light! Questo è sea of fahrenheit !!! Di solito incolpo IFRA ma qui non sono certo sia colpa dell'iFra...ed anche in quel caso sbagliereste voi ad abbassare testa e mutande a qualsiasi loro divieto....quante fragranze e capolavori distrutti per speculazioni pseudo scientifiche e leggi pseudo commerciali!

I don't know about the first release of this frag but the current edition is divine! I usually find salt water aquatics too overwhelming and sour, but this one wears very close to the skin. Brilliant opening like peeling an orange while taking a bite of peach sprinkled with fresh pepper, then a sweet light musk and salt. It's delicate and very elegant. The balance is superb. I've never tried anything else that even comes close, a very unique, elegant scent for all of its seemingly simple aspects.

Amazing fresh aquatic fragrance and I believe it has been reformulated. What a shame. Domique Ropion's version was a work or art. Use of gourmand elements to balance the aquatic notes . A very very underrated fragrance because not talked in fragrance community.
