L'ivree Bleue

I really love this house. This fragrance in particular is what fragcomm promised me was in Givenchy pi. No hate, but it was hyped up as a vanilla forward benzoin- I don’t get that instead I smell a thin piney thing that smells great on other people via sillage, not on person do I get such enjoyment. LB is super benzoin crystal resin & vanilla, then etc etc etc. seductive booziness but not so realistic that you’ll have to worry about taking a breathalyzer test *cough cough* Baroanda 😅. Two things I think are of importance with this house 1) smell high quality concentrations of individual notes to really differentiate between them- papier carbone & toi toi toi smelled so similar to me because of the vetiver but after smelling good quality buttery sandalwood attars my nose can smell the coffee & anise in PC and sandalwood- black pepper- patchouli- vanilla in toi. I really think that aspect of homework in the hobby isn’t discussed enough. 2) the performance- the performance on the whole house is 12+ hours for me, I only spray 2x behind the ear and leave the house without a travel. Maybe my nape is more thermal active than some so feel around your pulse point and see which ones get warmed most often for you and mark those as your key application point because throughout my day I’ll bust out 50 push ups here and there and it’s like I sprayed the fragrance all over again. The oils are present I can assure you that.

Stunning scent. Perfect for cooler months. Warm, sophisticated, wonderful longevity and sits close to the skin. A rich, enveloping gourmand but without being sickly sweet or cloying. Imagine sipping a rum hot cocoa by an open fire, that's the vibe. I have never been as complimented on a fragrance as this one. I've put two people onto this perfume this week alone (one guy and one girl - it's truly unisex). If I'm going out and want to emphasise the vanilla and boost the sillage, I layer it with Siwa by Memo Paris. I love Ormaie but, for me, L'Ivrée Bleue is the absolute standout of their collection. Be warned though, spray it too liberally on your neck and you'll quickly become nose blind to the scent - although others won't. Spray your wrists, shoulders - even the back of your neck - but avoid spraying too close to the face if you want to enjoy the comforting wafts of boozy cocoa for longer. I promise you, people will lean in to smell you and will demand to know what you're wearing. It's truly that hypnotic.

upon initial spray, i get a blast of rum and cacao, the resinous texture of benzoin once it hits the skin and it's kind of green, i do smell the mandarin orange, but i don't know if i could had i not known it was there. the dry down is a bit sour sweet, fruity sweet like a berry or something, but the sourness makes it smell like it has damp tobacco in it, although it's not listed. this is not a monster projector, nor is it complex, it's quite linear actually. so, is it worth the price? no, it's not worth $380 CAD imo, i own a bottle bc it was on sale and i quite enjoy wearing it. does it last? on me yes, i know people say it doesn't but it lasts a long time on me and kind of projects well actually.

Oh this is such a good one! On my skin the top notes are very weak and fleeting, I don't feel the rum for too long. Immediately I could clearly identify there's iris, cacao and patchouli though. The mixture has a fresh, sweet, damp, powdery super sexy makeup feel to it a la Iris Malikhan. As the scent develops, the iris goes into the background, and the cacao sweetens, darkens, gets a very wet, earthy quality from the patch. Towards the drydown it's even more textured, warmer and "alive". I freakin love this! On me the longevity is not bad at all, with 4 sprays I can feel it till the end of the day, but it definitely has a close to skin sillage.

A stunning fragrance. Changes a lot over time (something I find with most perfumes in this line) and each stage is gorgeous. Blast of citrusy, boozey unique and sweet floral opening - then strong violet-vanilla - cacao finally the creamy resinous base of cacao vanilla Benjoin and patchouli. Fully natural has excellent longevity and really a beautifully constructed scent. The bottle is also stunning- unbelievable craftsmanship!!! Love this brand.

I think the opening of this is quite lovely. It quickly becomes a very close-to-the-body scent and dries down to a mostly chocolatey patchouli and benzoin fragrance, ever so slightly smoky in nature.

I had so high hope on this one and were so happy to get it as a gift from my husband. I've had it for some months now and I do love the scener. For me it gives a lot of rum, cacao and tobacco lovely mixed with some floral in the background. If it lasted longer this would be my signature scent. I do enjoy it mostly when having dinners at home since I would need to reapply if going out. If I wear it out it appears to stay the longest if applied in my hair. Would I buy it again? Probably not due to the lack of longevity. Do I love the scent? Yes!

L'ivrée bleue, a cacao scent, very natural and warm. The longevity and sillage are excellent, very strong fragrance. 100% unisex but for fall and winter. 7/10

When you first spray, you get the rum and i think benzoin for me. The rum very quickly disappears, and i just smell benzoin and patchouli. Cacao and vanilla are in the background to me but there. I think it's a bit too heavy on the benzoin and patchouli for me. I don't smell any iris and i generally think the flowers are taken over by other scents. Too earthy for me. It doesn't excite me at all. This is strong at first spray but then very quickly stays close to the skin. Very artistic bottle and would look nice in a collection.

Beautiful cacao and iris combination. One of the best smelling fragrances with the worst performance. I mean siliage and projection are truly non existent. It sprays out like water too, there’s not really any weight and substance to the scent. It’s really upsetting considering how good it smells. I may even let it go due to being annoyed everytime I wear it because I cannot smell after 10 mins unless I douse myself with 50 sprays. If you bury your nose in your hand you will smell, but I like to smell what I’m wearing.

This is a soft, powdery cloud of cocoa, glazed violets, patchouli and vanilla, with an alcoholic opening of rum. The cloud is flat and calm and the trail veiled. Delicate and simple, but it doesn't work on my skin which, as it warms up, exalts a slightly animalic and rustic aroma. Frosted powder.

Beautiful fragrance with that opens with a blast of rum that turns into A delicious chocolatey powder, but it turns to a skin scent pretty much straight away. The performance isn’t great. Considering the price and note breakdown I was a lot expecting more.

The first minutes are constantly changing on skin, but a few minutes later I am left with sweet, musky vanilla-cacao powder. Reminds me of protein shakes aroma. I wish it projected better and didn't cost an arm and a leg, because it is a great vanilla powdery scent. I'd go for a full bottle if it was under $100. No way this is as good as Guerlain or other brands on the same price range, especially when there's nothing new here (don't mean to sound harsh). This and 'Le Passant' are my favorite from this line, but neither of them project well, I understand that's due to them being all natural. I learned that 'natural' doesn't necessarily means 'best', as the best perfume houses are working with synthetic molecules too (Nasomatto, Francis Kurdijan, Guerlain to name a few) In fact, from what I understood naturals are more likely to cause skin reactions due to the plants survival mechanism in producing anti insects/animals components in their oils

Whoever thought this has sillage and longevity must either have a super-powered nose that should stay away not just from properly powerful fragrances but from stuff like bacon sizzling in a pan, or a jasmine shrub in full bloom - or they're lying, to themselves primarily. My experience with this was: at first a good, clean blast of a white floral bouquet, maybe with something syrupy, molasses-sweet (that'd be the rum then, I detected no vanilla), and then, only 10-15 minutes later....nothing. Nothing on my skin, nothing on the blotter - just nothing. Disappeared into thin air just as quickly as it had been sprayed. To say that's disappointing is an understatement...

Oh this is beautiful. At first I am hit by sugary hard candy with violet flavor, but as it develops, the sweetness goes away a little and soft vanilla and rum chime in. I don't necessarily detect any cacao or patchouli, but certainly there is a woodsy base note that sort of give it a fresher earthy, instead of straight gourmand vibe. It dries down to this gentle boozy vanilla, maaaybe a bit chocolatey, with a pinch of powderiness from the iris. Very soft and feminine. I feel like this has a very low if not intimate projection but nontheless a beautiful cushion-y soft scent. Edited to add: excelent lasting power, I could still feel it faintly on my wrist the next day by which point it reminded me the vanilla in Vanilla Diorama Dior.

There's a blast of an alcoholic smell from the rum in the opening but as it dries down it definitely transitions into a very powdery chocolate vanilla scent with an earthy undertone from the patchouli. I think Donkar nailed it with comparing it to protein powder. The dry down really smells like chocolate protein powder mixed with an earthy aroma.

Stunning!!! Almost like lilac love amouage and mugler angel muse and vca orchidee vanille mixed and had a baby, but make it super refined and french smelling! Warm cosy, long lasting and small scent bubble. Gets sweeter and more chocolatey the longer the bottle is opened for. You can smell the quality, just amazing

@parispeach, I had the same experience as you. I love the scent! Iris & violet petals soaked in rum, sprinkled with cocoa powder. It is sweet, warm, resinous, slightly powdery. Simply beautiful! However, the performance is really terrible... Certainly, not worth the price 😔

Smells like the fibrous outer cacao pod husk still attached to the green tree; so it’s not sweet. Citrus flavored rum. The benzoin smells a bit waxy instead of resinous. Clean, soft and classy. The dry down reminds me of a freshly cleaned church and I don’t know why.

I almost like L'Ivrée Bleue as an elegant gourmand-but-not-gourmand cocoa fragrance, but it's missing something for me. The composition of the dense, dark chocolate, benzoin and booze is smooth and palatable, but it certainly doesn't smell like it's worth $360.
