I'll admit,what brought me to Evernia wasn't the oakmoss centered theme. I certainly wasn’t looking for uniqueness. To be honest, I was searching for an Ormonde Man replacement, a ghost or hint of that particular and beautiful signature scent most Ormonde Jayne fragrances share. But as we all know, fragrance reviews can be deceiving... and Evernia diverges from that pattern. After digging through countless reviews and struggling to find a single decant, I finally took the leap and blind bought Evernia. It wasn’t the path I was looking for, but an unintended and delightful detour that led me down a scenic route through the forest. At the beginning, you’re welcomed with a fresh, coniferous brightness with a slightly camphoric bite, created by pepper and oakmoss working together in perfect sync. As it settles, those evergreen tones don’t vanish; they linger softly in the background, weaving in and out like a subtle reminder of where it all began. Soon after, cashmeran and orris root come into play, grounding everything with a dry, woody backbone and earthy-powdery texture that makes it quietly elegant. The black currant and floral notes remain shy, never stealing the spotlight, but always present, adding a faint, translucent sweetness. It’s the kind of sweetness that doesn’t shout, just smooths out the edges, rounding the whole composition into something effortlessly balanced, clean, and refined. Evernia is a sophisticated modern chypre, with great versatility, moderate sillage and projection, and moderate longevity on my skin, lasts around 4–6 hours. In terms of similarities, in my opinion, it’s closer to a “Creed Oud Wood meets Diptyque Tam Dao” than to the fragrances often mentioned alongside it. In the end, Evernia is a beautiful fragrance that captures the picturesque stillness of a forest in the tail end of spring. The air is cool, the leaves perfectly still, and sunlight filters through the canopy in soft streams. It’s serene, sophisticated, and quietly moving.

This fragrance opens with rose, freesia and pink pepper for me. The oakmoss, cashmeran, orris root and iso e super soon follow, creating a kind of mossy, earthy, pine-like accord. My first impression was a hot sweaty pine tree oozing with golden sap complemented by a light, aromatic breeze through a bed of roses abutting the trunk. Many have commented on the gender of this perfume. While I concede it has the floral qualities appropriate for a lady, its earthy weight creates a more masculine profile (or at least a challenging wear for a female). For me, this makes for a scent designed for a man daring to challenge fragrance norms, an olfactive angle attempted numerous times throughout the decades - the Turkish rose in Chanel's Egoiste comes to mind here. Evernia is the same for me, shamelessly floral without straying too far from a man's robust, earthy foundation. As for seasons, Evernia could be pulled off as a signature scent i.e. any time, any day, any season. It doesn't consist of sweet notes susceptible to becoming cloying in high heat, though it is pretty dense, so perhaps not the fragrance you'd first think of wearing to the beach. Longevity is impressive and lasts a good 6-8 hours on skin even on the hottest of days, and 2-3 days on a shirt collar. Unique, refined and downright elegant. Full bottle worthy. 8.5/10

Reviewing a bottle from 2024.Evernia was launched in 2021. Evernia is a cool chypre paying tribute to the lichen oakmoss, Evernia Prunastri. It opens with nuanced bergamot, bright pink pepper and spices. I don't sense any cassis. Subtle florals, mostly freesia and Rose, add beauty and lightness to the earthy bitter oakmoss. There is the requisite OJ orris root with it's powdery elegance. I sense there is just a touch of sweetness. Creamy sandalwood, cashmeran, opoponax and musk add substance to the base. Beautifully blended. Quality- excellent ( real oakmoss is used; processed to be devoid of atranol) Unisex Performance- excellent ( great sillage, lasts 6 hours+) Evernia is a thoroughly modern chypre evoking the forest floor. It feels damp and alive. It is definitely underrated on Fragrantica. Looking at some of the negative reviews it is clear that this is not a fragrance for those looking for sweet fruity florals - they certainly wandered outside their comfort zone. For anyone who loves oak moss, this is a must to sample. 9.0/10

Evernia is so underrated, I'm baffled by the overall rating. This is a stunning and captivating scent that lingers and has a beautiful drydown. Oakmoss is not a note I typically seek out on its own. I came across Evernia while in a local fragrance shop and it really stood out. I did my research later and found that the primary concept is oakmoss. And while it's clearly "oakmoss forward," I feel there's so much more to it. I don't get any of the floral notes listed on my skin, but it leaves me constantly smelling my wrist and smelling the fragrance in the mid and drydown give me the feeling of a warm hug. I do get the woody component, though it's not overly "piney" at least on me. The overall effect is elegant and attractive with a modern sensibility, though a bit independent and aloof. Just what I aspire to for myself, I guess :)

Evernia takes the idea of a classic Chypre fragrance and transforms it into something gorgeously fruity and spicy. It opens with a fabulous note of bergamot combined with an array of tantalising warm spices including cassis, cardamom, pink pepper and coriander. In the heart you’re greeted by an array of thick, heady florals such as orris, lily of the valley, freesia, violet and rose. This is a beautiful combination which pairs perfectly with the spicy notes of the opening. The base is then comprised of a musky oakmoss and cashmeran, with a heavy dose of Iso E Super which gives the scent its addictive quality. This is a fantastic fragrance from Ormonde Jayne which really took me by surprise. There’s so much going on here and it takes you on a wonderful journey from start to finish. A really underrated scent overall.
