I'll admit,what brought me to Evernia wasn't the oakmoss centered theme. I certainly wasn’t looking for uniqueness. To be honest, I was searching for an Ormonde Man replacement, a ghost or hint of that particular and beautiful signature scent most Ormonde Jayne fragrances share. But as we all know, fragrance reviews can be deceiving... and Evernia diverges from that pattern. After digging through countless reviews and struggling to find a single decant, I finally took the leap and blind bought Evernia. It wasn’t the path I was looking for, but an unintended and delightful detour that led me down a scenic route through the forest. At the beginning, you’re welcomed with a fresh, coniferous brightness with a slightly camphoric bite, created by pepper and oakmoss working together in perfect sync. As it settles, those evergreen tones don’t vanish; they linger softly in the background, weaving in and out like a subtle reminder of where it all began. Soon after, cashmeran and orris root come into play, grounding everything with a dry, woody backbone and earthy-powdery texture that makes it quietly elegant. The black currant and floral notes remain shy, never stealing the spotlight, but always present, adding a faint, translucent sweetness. It’s the kind of sweetness that doesn’t shout, just smooths out the edges, rounding the whole composition into something effortlessly balanced, clean, and refined. Evernia is a sophisticated modern chypre, with great versatility, moderate sillage and projection, and moderate longevity on my skin, lasts around 4–6 hours. In terms of similarities, in my opinion, it’s closer to a “Creed Oud Wood meets Diptyque Tam Dao” than to the fragrances often mentioned alongside it. In the end, Evernia is a beautiful fragrance that captures the picturesque stillness of a forest in the tail end of spring. The air is cool, the leaves perfectly still, and sunlight filters through the canopy in soft streams. It’s serene, sophisticated, and quietly moving.

This fragrance opens with rose, freesia and pink pepper for me. The oakmoss, cashmeran, orris root and iso e super soon follow, creating a kind of mossy, earthy, pine-like accord. My first impression was a hot sweaty pine tree oozing with golden sap complemented by a light, aromatic breeze through a bed of roses abutting the trunk. Many have commented on the gender of this perfume. While I concede it has the floral qualities appropriate for a lady, its earthy weight creates a more masculine profile (or at least a challenging wear for a female). For me, this makes for a scent designed for a man daring to challenge fragrance norms, an olfactive angle attempted numerous times throughout the decades - the Turkish rose in Chanel's Egoiste comes to mind here. Evernia is the same for me, shamelessly floral without straying too far from a man's robust, earthy foundation. As for seasons, Evernia could be pulled off as a signature scent i.e. any time, any day, any season. It doesn't consist of sweet notes susceptible to becoming cloying in high heat, though it is pretty dense, so perhaps not the fragrance you'd first think of wearing to the beach. Longevity is impressive and lasts a good 6-8 hours on skin even on the hottest of days, and 2-3 days on a shirt collar. Unique, refined and downright elegant. Full bottle worthy. 8.5/10

Reviewing a bottle from 2024.Evernia was launched in 2021. Evernia is a cool chypre paying tribute to the lichen oakmoss, Evernia Prunastri. It opens with nuanced bergamot, bright pink pepper and spices. I don't sense any cassis. Subtle florals, mostly freesia and Rose, add beauty and lightness to the earthy bitter oakmoss. There is the requisite OJ orris root with it's powdery elegance. I sense there is just a touch of sweetness. Creamy sandalwood, cashmeran, opoponax and musk add substance to the base. Beautifully blended. Quality- excellent ( real oakmoss is used; processed to be devoid of atranol) Unisex Performance- excellent ( great sillage, lasts 6 hours+) Evernia is a thoroughly modern chypre evoking the forest floor. It feels damp and alive. It is definitely underrated on Fragrantica. Looking at some of the negative reviews it is clear that this is not a fragrance for those looking for sweet fruity florals - they certainly wandered outside their comfort zone. For anyone who loves oak moss, this is a must to sample. 9.0/10

Evernia is so underrated, I'm baffled by the overall rating. This is a stunning and captivating scent that lingers and has a beautiful drydown. Oakmoss is not a note I typically seek out on its own. I came across Evernia while in a local fragrance shop and it really stood out. I did my research later and found that the primary concept is oakmoss. And while it's clearly "oakmoss forward," I feel there's so much more to it. I don't get any of the floral notes listed on my skin, but it leaves me constantly smelling my wrist and smelling the fragrance in the mid and drydown give me the feeling of a warm hug. I do get the woody component, though it's not overly "piney" at least on me. The overall effect is elegant and attractive with a modern sensibility, though a bit independent and aloof. Just what I aspire to for myself, I guess :)

Evernia takes the idea of a classic Chypre fragrance and transforms it into something gorgeously fruity and spicy. It opens with a fabulous note of bergamot combined with an array of tantalising warm spices including cassis, cardamom, pink pepper and coriander. In the heart you’re greeted by an array of thick, heady florals such as orris, lily of the valley, freesia, violet and rose. This is a beautiful combination which pairs perfectly with the spicy notes of the opening. The base is then comprised of a musky oakmoss and cashmeran, with a heavy dose of Iso E Super which gives the scent its addictive quality. This is a fantastic fragrance from Ormonde Jayne which really took me by surprise. There’s so much going on here and it takes you on a wonderful journey from start to finish. A really underrated scent overall.

First impressions: Has an old-world air of class. The opening is nothing great but it settles in quickly and shines. Smells best in the air. Perfect work scent if you wanna exude elegance at the office. Signature type scent for sure. No opinions on longevity and sillage yet. I'm going to wear it to work and see how it holds up. Will update once I have a better feel for it. As of right now I don't regret the blind buy at all. Especially considering the price I got it for. $118 ftw. Alright after having given this some wear I've concluded that it's a winner on all fronts. Performed better than I imagined. Stuck with me through a solid sweaty workday. Got a second bottle just to have tucked away in a closet in case it gets discontinued or the price goes up.

This is seriously good. Like a dry forest scent but nevertheless not masculine. Perfectly unisex and sophisticated. It shares the same OJ dna as Ormonde Woman but whereas Woman is like a wet, after-rain forest, Evernia has a more dry quality. At initial spray it might scare a lot of women away but just after 5-10 mins the rose and cashmeran come closer to the surface to accompany the oakmoss/pepper/orris blast. Like some other reviewer, I am also stunned at the rating this one has on Fragrantica. To me this is one of their best ones and a much better scent than something like Frangipani by this same house. Give Evernia a go!!!

We've never came to a consensus on basically anything ...but...we all enjoyed Evernia. Is that enough?

This fragrance is so unique. The oak moss and pink pepper together create a heavenly green spiciness that is dry and invigorating. Unfortunately, even with quite a few sprays, there is almost no sillage and very short staying power. I have to press my nose to my wrist to remember I'm wearing any perfume at all. Still, I will probably buy a bottle. I have no similar fragrances and this spicy green scent is so beautiful.

It is surprisingly bright with a sparkle of citrusy pepper running all the way through to the dry down. The oak moss and cashmeran mix is the main show; it is a super smooth earthiness. It is elegant and long lasting with a mild sillage.

Surprisingly bright and uplifting fragrance. I thought it would be green but it’s not. Definitely a year round fragrance and smells good.

Evernia shoots out of the gate with a pungent bite of sour bergamot riding along an encompassing cardamom, typically rounded by pick pepper and touched up by coriander that jogs the nose with the familiar Ormonde Jayne Man/Woman DNA till a welcoming twist of innovation arrives in the form of black currant absolute leaking its tangy fruity mead on a fragrant floral bed that is anything but traditionally rosy and merely deepens the powdery spicy verte like a curried carrot top, one that is grounded in a peripheral, hollow coating of the proverbial ‘evernia’, brimming more of woody musk, incense gum and Iso-E-Super than the mossy spell of lore... Collectively, this reeks more of a phantom immortelle streak entering a balsamic santal musk that flavours like premium fizzy celery stalk in A1 sauce, one that is thankfully savoury and alluring. Overall, Evernia is a seance that beckons for the belated spirit of oakmoss rather than a full on lichen possession one hoped it could be or at least allude too. Still, it remains a fine piquant run, ethereal in its green metallic sheen and enjoyable for those who have penchant for camphorous vinaigrette stirs and of Geza Schön’s oeuvre.

I don't get much oakmoss here, and certainly not anywhere near second most prominent accord as represented in the accord stack on this page. All notes are pretty subtly dosed and well blended, but I get powdery dry woods. I have lots of vintage Fougeres and Chypres highly dosed with oakmoss, and other moss-centric fragrances. I most recently bought a bottle of Bortnikoff Moss Cologne, a really beautiful oakmoss-citrus-frangipani composition. But not much detectable in Evernia, despite the name and the published accord stack. Its nice, balanced, subtle, pleasant, highly wearable and very much like Ormande Man. I have a bottle of Ormande Man and that'll do. Its in my Office Scent collection.

Nice! But for me, the oakmoss is VERY strong and strongly reminds me of the Ormonde Man/Woman series (more so the Ormonde Man than the Woman). I prefer this over Ormonde Man, but I like this less than Ormonde Woman - this one smells a little "rounder", smoother and classier than the Ormonde Man. Scent profile is unisex (same as Ormonde Woman), compared to Ormonde Man which definitely actually smells masculine to my nose (the juniper is really prominent in Ormonde Man). While interesting, the strength of the oakmoss isn't to my liking personally. Scent: Interesting, but not for me - 7/10

Ever hike around Lake Tahoe in the Fall? That’s what this reminds me of and I really like it. For what it’s worth, my dog also loves it. Cedar, pine, oak moss, fresh, sweet-ish. It’s an everyday scent. The EDP & Parfum smell pretty much the same. EDP feels brighter and fresher and the Parfum feels slightly richer. They both last about 8 hours. The EDP is available at discounters at 1/3 the price of the Parfum. Can’t go wrong with either.

Just a quick comment as I don't see that anyone has mentioned this. I bought some cut white freesias for my house earlier this week and realized that they were very fragrant, a lovely somewhat powdery, softly spicy, watery white floral smell. Then, I wore this today and realized just how strong the freesia note is, at least on me. Yes, there is a good oakmoss accord, but the freesia is unmistakable now that I know what it smells like!

Evernia prunastri means "oakmoss" in Latin. Clear floral fragrance. The clear grapefruit, which gives a sense of clarity, goes straight to the ground. Lightly tart, juicy, perhaps with the addition of bitter orange or lemon, Evernia has a fresh top note. After reaching the middle, Moroccan roses account for a large proportion, light and cheerful, and are a daily work suitable for spring and summer.

The first spray is fresh and intoxicating, projecting oak moss and flowery spices. The drydown is calm, getting woodier by the minute. After a few hours on my skin the cashmeran turned rather harsh, so I won't be purchasing a bottle. But I will be finishing my sample just to experience that brilliant opening again.

Loads of oakmoss with a dash of cashmeran and freesia. Smells very sophisticated and classy. Has an almost cold, refined feel to it - this isn’t a warm or sexy perfume, it’s an elegant one. Would suit a well dressed businesswoman. Good performance.

As Ashril said, you can definitely smell the OJ signature on this one, which for me gets pronounced after about 1h. A winner!

When I first smelled it on paper, it was divine. But when I tried it on my skin it gave me a headache... For me there is a strong pink pepper note with oakmoss that just doesn't make magic on my skin. I smell like gin tonic. Not a safe blindbuy

god knows why i get a sweaty cardamom up top that somehow transitions into a creamy sandalwood (?) there's something here that bugs my nose, something dirty, like literal dust but ever so slightly green and smoky, not at all what I expected.

This is a slightly creamier, more cashmeran heavy take on Ormonde Man. Not bad but completely unnecessary even discounted. Heavy pass And Oakmoss, where is it, nowhere to be found.

Sorry, the pickle/celery note is too much for me. A safe blind buy I would guess, for lovers of Dzongkha. The first OJ I don't like, I think I have all the signature scents ( Ormonde Woman and Ta'if being my favorites), Qi and Byzance, and generally find OJ easy to love. I do think it's a brave move to launch a scent like Evernia and not playing it safe all the time. If this slightly more experimental path is where OJ is going in the future, I'm very excited! Update 220813: Ok, I tested this again in the heat in OJs' London boutique and fell heavily in love. In the heat it bloomed and the pickle note sort of merged with the other notes and took on a caramel/oakmoss nuance. Absolutely beautiful. Am now the proud owner of a bottle.

Good lord, was this vile. I usually try a spray on paper first, to test whether or not I like it enough to try on skin. But for some regrettable reason, I went straight to spraying it on myself. Shudder. That was a mistake. A big mistake. I literally could not get this scrubbed off fast enough, and of course it was one of those monsters that you can't completely get rid of no matter how long and hard you scrub. No No No. Ew. No.

There was a time when Ormonde Jayne could do no wrong for me. Unfortunately, I think I'm done exploring this house. Ormonde Jayne Woman was my signature scent many years ago but whatever reformulation or change in ingredients across the board has killed my love of that one, too. I know OJ has always used synthetics, including a heaping dose of iso e super and oakmoss, but there's something so different about the latest formulations. As for Evernia, it should have been an immediate win for me because I adore oakmoss, but, instead, it grates on my nerves. Like, I almost like it? It's so close! Perhaps it's the overabundance of synthetics including iso e super that make me feel like I'm being suffocated in an uncanny AI forest of pine, cedar, and oakmoss. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it irritates my brain after a while and I've given up trying. With that said, my husband really, really likes it and is drawn to it, and everyone's nose is different. I just know that Ormonde Jayne was one of my very favorite houses back in 2008, and I haven't enjoyed anything it has produced in recent years.

I kind of like this one. It opens with pepper and oak moss, and then gets pretty cedar-y and that Iso-E-super cedar note will stay. I have to say this lasts pretty long on me- overnight, the dry down is more cedar after the pepper dissipates with some lighter floral notes in the background, with the fluffy Orris root in there. I don't really get much in the way of rose notes, or fruity, just the freesia mostly. I don't find this powdery either, mostly oak moss and dry cedar. I kind of get a pulling a sweater out of a cedar trunk in a cabin that's a little dusty with some day old flowers in a vase nearby, window is open blowing in some other subtle woody notes. I also don't get the comparison to Ormonde Man, as I own it and it's much warmer under the base and softer than this. Sure they both have woody notes, but they're completely different.

I love so many from Ormonde Jayne but unfortunately this one won't be included into my collection. I was hoping for an ethereal aromatic Oakmoss but on me it's a tad masculine (in the traditional association sense). It's opens like a salty spicey bright Bergmot, and settles into a creamy spicey celery sandalwood. While i was testing it out it also strongly reminded me of something, and took ages until i figured it out. . Intoxicated by Kilian! That one always went a bit aromatic gingery on me. It's very similar though. I've heard that Ormonde Jayne is releasing a fragrance called Sakura which will be an exclusive to Harrods. I think that one will be more my cup of tea hopefully.

Evernia fills the gap in the line of OJ Signature collection. Adding the Oakmoss and reducing the typical spicy entry produce a fantastic result. The Oakmoss in this is earthy - bold and realistic. The present of Orris and Floral notes lift up the spirit making it lively. Everything turns soft, creamy and musky so beautifully in the drydown - you can tell it’s an OJ fragrance, the signature touch is obvious. Definitely finishing up my 8 ml introductory sample and get a full bottle.

Evernia prunastri is nowhere to be seen here. When I prune my laurel tree, I leave the brunches to dry, to be used as kindling. And that's what it smells like. Laurel kindling. I am now comparing Evernia side by side with Montabaco and Black Gold. And they are as kin to each other as Nif-Nif, Naf-Naf et Nouf-Nouf. Why, Linda, why? Couldn't you just make more of Tiare and Privé and Vanille d'Iris?

This is a female version of Terre d'Hermes. I have always wanted to wear Terre d'Hermes (I secretly did sometimes). I now I found Evernia! Plus, it has a note of Sandalwood that is creamy, lingers between all the levels of the pyramid and doesn’t have pickles. I am in love! Dina_France (YouTube perfume reviews)

It is very good but takes a while to develop and is on the weaker side for an OJ: the opening is your typical OJ DNA, which you can tell blindfolded then you get a bit of the piney and oakmossy scent but it takes a while to come through it is not a strong in projections but it blasts for ever

the oak moss is a strong, unique scent! best i can describe this is an herbal ginger, like a hot cup of tea! etiket one of a kind sampler set, definitely super unique!
