Montabaco Verano

Released five years ago as a “limited edition” exclusively for Harrods, it ended up being a complete and straight-up deception from the brand, proving that you should not believe everything niche brands say. This kind of dishonesty is something that we should not accept and will be displayed in my final opinion. TOP NOTES Verano is not a scent to be dismissed. It is a pleasant fragrance, a people-pleaser that most average consumers and enthusiasts will find enjoyable, reassuring its likeability. However, it’s worth noting that Montabaco Verano shares similarities with Bvlgari Tygar, Sospiro Vibrato, and other fragrances in its price range. The star of the show here is the grapefruit note. It’s bright and zesty and instantly awakens the senses. Grapefruit is a common choice for top notes as it offers a clean and uplifting quality, perfect for setting the tone for the fragrance. However, this grapefruit is miles below in quality and found in almost double the price of cheaper scents such as Terre d’Hermes Eau Givree and Light Blue Forever Pour Homme, which is a straight-up joke. Besides this uplifting citrus, I also get orange and juniper berries of the same quality found in Ormonde Man, some cold-pressed cardamom, and touches of clary sage, which are popular today. HEART NOTES As soon as the grand opening settles down, you can see Schoen’s signature in the heart and the base. Specifically, I like the way he mixes synthetic molecules with natural notes. Of the heart notes mentioned, the only ones I truly get are the green tea accord and the ozonic feeling of violet. In addition to those green and floral notes, the heart is dominated by an overdose of ISO-E-Super, cashmeran, ambroxan, and javanol. BASE NOTES Things fall apart at the base, so I’m glad I did not purchase Verano at its total retail price. It all boils down to the musky leather and ashy tobacco. The sad thing about this is that it doesn’t excel at any of those notes, which is more tragic when you know that all of these are my favorite notes in perfumery. But the funniest thing is that I like this fragrance regardless of its drawbacks and how it’s an expensive clone of Tygar with a couple of twists and turns. OVERALL love to wear this fragrance and will probably keep it in my collection until I finish it. Due to its obvious drawbacks, this review seems a bit more negative but realistically objective. I wish more reviewers had done more and kept the product pushing minimally. Look around the fragrance discounter websites, and you’ll likely find a much better deal than its retail price. Signature tobacco and tea fresh fragrance. Borrowed a bit more citrus/brightness into the dna, but such an overall fantastic fragrance. Can wear it day and night all-year round. More elegant than casual, and more masculine than unisex. Upscale wearing experience. Overall, very redundant with Montabaco Intensivo, but a better performer off my skin. Very intricate dry fragrance that develops and can be peeled down through its layers. Appealing to most, and for my wife (who is a very hard to impress woman), this was a fantastic scent. Price point is strange with some testers/unboxed going for ~$200 and even very hard to find discounted. Honestly, worth the price tag. I pick up some similarity with how LVers comes out form my skin, but this is a much better buy overall for me- I guess that comes from this dry aspect that sandalwood presents in LVers that some other note in Verano is mimicking. I still think that, in a big collection Intensivo and Verano may not be redundant, but too redundant for me. BTV Knight of Love compares quite closely particularly to Intensivo; others in the line that I've tried were Rio and Cuba/Aruba (can't quite recall) but the latter was very reminiscent of a more metallic Verano, while Rio was a fruity more unisex take on the DNA (not redundant to be quite frank.).

Just discovered this and am really looking forward to wearing it more now that the weather is turning warmer in NYC. When I first smelled it on a strip at the store, my first impression was that of a freshly opened box of Constant Comment tea (an orange, spiced black tea for those unfamiliar). I never drank it, but my grandpa loved it, so my mom always kept a box in the house for him. The notes listed here don't mention orange, tea or spice, but I see that those on the Ormonde Jayne website do, so I'm not completely crazy. Now that I have worn it several times, I'm actually reminded of Terre d'Hermes EDT in structure if not as much in actual smell. It has the same ISO E Super base with orange, but dirtied up with tobacco instead of vetiver. To be honest, I would never have identified tobacco in it as it is unlike any tobacco with which I'm familiar, but I suppose a fresher take on it. Maybe fresh tobacco leaves?? I also get very little grapefruit, which is a note I love. Maybe if I squint right at the opening, but it smells much more of oranges to me. It is far cleaner and longer lasting than TDH. Overall, it is a great performing spring/summer scent for daytime, office or even a casual evening event.

I just got my 50 ml bottle of this beauty from Twisted Lilly with a discount code. It was a successful blind buy. To my nose, this is a love ❤️ at first sniff. One of the most gorgeous fragrance I ever smelled. Everything I want is in here, the perfect blend of the leather, tobacco and citrus accords creates this beautiful and unique scent profile. The quality of the juice also reflects its performance and projection that will not disappoint. Although they are totally different, somehow on the dry down there’s a faint vibe reminiscent of Mancera’s Saharian Wind, another beautiful fragrance that I own. Be careful on the trigger. At first spray I thought it was weak, but it wasn’t and it lingers. Or maybe it’s my skin chemistry but best move is to sample first and see if you like it. Definitely unisex and versatile in my opinion, I can’t say anything more. 👍. Overall, it’s a 10/10 to me 😉 “Let's spread the scents of peace and kindness. At times the opening is a little too intense for my taste. Fortunately after 10-15 minutes the fragrance begins to settle down, and it only gets better as the scent dries down on skin. This is a fragrance that needs to be experienced in the air - I don’t recommend pressing your nose into wear you apply this fragrance. After the first 45-60 minutes it’s easier to pick up on some of the more interesting nuances. The rose accord in conjunction with botanicals & grapefruit note gives a wonderful clean air feeling. There is a slight sweetness and an amber note in the dry down that gives this fragrance an addictive quality. Verano shares similarities with a few different fragrances; Silver Mountain Water, Mefisto, Lavalliere to name a few. The rose accord really ties everything together for me, elevating this fragrance to another level. This is an excellent any time, any place, four season fragrance. I’ll be wearing this a lot throughout Spring & Summer this year.
