Montabaco Verano

Released five years ago as a “limited edition” exclusively for Harrods, it ended up being a complete and straight-up deception from the brand, proving that you should not believe everything niche brands say. This kind of dishonesty is something that we should not accept and will be displayed in my final opinion. TOP NOTES Verano is not a scent to be dismissed. It is a pleasant fragrance, a people-pleaser that most average consumers and enthusiasts will find enjoyable, reassuring its likeability. However, it’s worth noting that Montabaco Verano shares similarities with Bvlgari Tygar, Sospiro Vibrato, and other fragrances in its price range. The star of the show here is the grapefruit note. It’s bright and zesty and instantly awakens the senses. Grapefruit is a common choice for top notes as it offers a clean and uplifting quality, perfect for setting the tone for the fragrance. However, this grapefruit is miles below in quality and found in almost double the price of cheaper scents such as Terre d’Hermes Eau Givree and Light Blue Forever Pour Homme, which is a straight-up joke. Besides this uplifting citrus, I also get orange and juniper berries of the same quality found in Ormonde Man, some cold-pressed cardamom, and touches of clary sage, which are popular today. HEART NOTES As soon as the grand opening settles down, you can see Schoen’s signature in the heart and the base. Specifically, I like the way he mixes synthetic molecules with natural notes. Of the heart notes mentioned, the only ones I truly get are the green tea accord and the ozonic feeling of violet. In addition to those green and floral notes, the heart is dominated by an overdose of ISO-E-Super, cashmeran, ambroxan, and javanol. BASE NOTES Things fall apart at the base, so I’m glad I did not purchase Verano at its total retail price. It all boils down to the musky leather and ashy tobacco. The sad thing about this is that it doesn’t excel at any of those notes, which is more tragic when you know that all of these are my favorite notes in perfumery. But the funniest thing is that I like this fragrance regardless of its drawbacks and how it’s an expensive clone of Tygar with a couple of twists and turns. OVERALL love to wear this fragrance and will probably keep it in my collection until I finish it. Due to its obvious drawbacks, this review seems a bit more negative but realistically objective. I wish more reviewers had done more and kept the product pushing minimally. Look around the fragrance discounter websites, and you’ll likely find a much better deal than its retail price. Signature tobacco and tea fresh fragrance. Borrowed a bit more citrus/brightness into the dna, but such an overall fantastic fragrance. Can wear it day and night all-year round. More elegant than casual, and more masculine than unisex. Upscale wearing experience. Overall, very redundant with Montabaco Intensivo, but a better performer off my skin. Very intricate dry fragrance that develops and can be peeled down through its layers. Appealing to most, and for my wife (who is a very hard to impress woman), this was a fantastic scent. Price point is strange with some testers/unboxed going for ~$200 and even very hard to find discounted. Honestly, worth the price tag. I pick up some similarity with how LVers comes out form my skin, but this is a much better buy overall for me- I guess that comes from this dry aspect that sandalwood presents in LVers that some other note in Verano is mimicking. I still think that, in a big collection Intensivo and Verano may not be redundant, but too redundant for me. BTV Knight of Love compares quite closely particularly to Intensivo; others in the line that I've tried were Rio and Cuba/Aruba (can't quite recall) but the latter was very reminiscent of a more metallic Verano, while Rio was a fruity more unisex take on the DNA (not redundant to be quite frank.).

Just discovered this and am really looking forward to wearing it more now that the weather is turning warmer in NYC. When I first smelled it on a strip at the store, my first impression was that of a freshly opened box of Constant Comment tea (an orange, spiced black tea for those unfamiliar). I never drank it, but my grandpa loved it, so my mom always kept a box in the house for him. The notes listed here don't mention orange, tea or spice, but I see that those on the Ormonde Jayne website do, so I'm not completely crazy. Now that I have worn it several times, I'm actually reminded of Terre d'Hermes EDT in structure if not as much in actual smell. It has the same ISO E Super base with orange, but dirtied up with tobacco instead of vetiver. To be honest, I would never have identified tobacco in it as it is unlike any tobacco with which I'm familiar, but I suppose a fresher take on it. Maybe fresh tobacco leaves?? I also get very little grapefruit, which is a note I love. Maybe if I squint right at the opening, but it smells much more of oranges to me. It is far cleaner and longer lasting than TDH. Overall, it is a great performing spring/summer scent for daytime, office or even a casual evening event.

I just got my 50 ml bottle of this beauty from Twisted Lilly with a discount code. It was a successful blind buy. To my nose, this is a love ❤️ at first sniff. One of the most gorgeous fragrance I ever smelled. Everything I want is in here, the perfect blend of the leather, tobacco and citrus accords creates this beautiful and unique scent profile. The quality of the juice also reflects its performance and projection that will not disappoint. Although they are totally different, somehow on the dry down there’s a faint vibe reminiscent of Mancera’s Saharian Wind, another beautiful fragrance that I own. Be careful on the trigger. At first spray I thought it was weak, but it wasn’t and it lingers. Or maybe it’s my skin chemistry but best move is to sample first and see if you like it. Definitely unisex and versatile in my opinion, I can’t say anything more. 👍. Overall, it’s a 10/10 to me 😉 “Let's spread the scents of peace and kindness. At times the opening is a little too intense for my taste. Fortunately after 10-15 minutes the fragrance begins to settle down, and it only gets better as the scent dries down on skin. This is a fragrance that needs to be experienced in the air - I don’t recommend pressing your nose into wear you apply this fragrance. After the first 45-60 minutes it’s easier to pick up on some of the more interesting nuances. The rose accord in conjunction with botanicals & grapefruit note gives a wonderful clean air feeling. There is a slight sweetness and an amber note in the dry down that gives this fragrance an addictive quality. Verano shares similarities with a few different fragrances; Silver Mountain Water, Mefisto, Lavalliere to name a few. The rose accord really ties everything together for me, elevating this fragrance to another level. This is an excellent any time, any place, four season fragrance. I’ll be wearing this a lot throughout Spring & Summer this year.

Montabaco Verano is fast becoming one of my favourite summer fragrances, it’s not the most complex scent but there’s something about it that’s just so addicting and satisfying to wear. It opens with the most incredible juicy grapefruit note backed up by juniper, sage and a touch of orange - all surrounded by a soft airiness. A soft and gentle floral heart of rose and magnolia are introduced with a subtle tea note before developing a more strong and masculine base. The tobacco here isn’t like any other I’ve smelled before, it’s got that slight smoky earthiness but it’s so gentle and bright that it works brilliantly in the warm weather. The key players that make this scent so addictive are the grapefruit, Iso E Super and ambergris - leaving you with something so incredibly smooth and refreshing to wear. This is hands down one of the best grapefruits I’ve ever smelled and will always have a place in my collection.

Intensivo is possibly the best Blonde Tobacco scent I know. It is also one of the strongest and longest lasting in my 1000 odd turn over of perfumes. Indeed any Montabaco is an above average tobacco scent. This however is possibly the best yet. Possibly (I have to wear it some more) a tad lower on the volume scale (I stress possibly) it’s in essence grapefruit addition helps freshen it up even further and soften the slightly ashed jasminic blonde tobacco smell that is done so well (arguably too well for some) and slightly diluting the cashmere and leather connotations. A welcome addition which will see me sell my Intensivo. One of the top top shelf Baccy scents next to TF TV, PDM Herod, Mancera Red Tobacco, Carolina Herrera Mystery Tobacco and a select few others that everyone must at least try once.

I got this as part of my SB Subscription in the Summer. I put this up with Nishane's Safran Colongise, not in terms of scent, but how it's changed things for me... I'm usually not a Leather or Saffron kind of guy, I feel I can thank the overabundance/plethora of Saffron heavy scents (a la BR540) and Leather heavy trends over the years (TF's never ending barrage). But the Nishane showed me that I can not only love both but also in a season where they typically don't fit in. Montabaco Verano is right along side S.C in the sense that it's a lighter, airy, fresh & even invigorating Leather & Tobacco perfume that's absolutely so incredible in Summer. This is my second experience with Ormonde Jayne (Ormonde Man being the first, which is also very much a love) and they're 2 for 2 with me.

Unfortunately, I wear this only because my wife loves it. I stop smelling it after 15 minutes—I'm not even kidding. Maybe my brain gets too comfortable with it, or maybe it just blends into nothingness for me. My wife insists it lasts, but for me, it disappears instantly. There’s a certain harshness to it if you smell it up close—almost like a deodorant, something synthetic. I saw someone mention this in the comments, and I absolutely agree. This is a fragrance that needs air, distance. Smell it in the air, not on your skin. Dont get me wrong i do love it, but the performance is kiling it, an i am a type of a person that absolutely does not sick for beast mode frangrance. I just Love my Wife so much, so thats why I bought the second bottle of this :D :D

If not for the price, or my need to wear multiple different scents per day (not concurrently), this would be my signature scent. I live in a continuously high heat/humidity area and this scent is perfect in the versatility and pleasing scent categories. The opening reminds me of AF's "interpretation" of Tygar, Black Panther. Edit May 7th, 2021: I recently received a sample of the original parfum version. Notes listed compared to the original Montabaco are quite different but the overall smell is very, very similar. I will always have one or the other, but not both. Next time I might go with the OG. No, I think I definitely will...

Yazlık Montabaco dersek yanlış olmaz. Orjinal Montabaco dan biraz uzaklaşmış doğal olarak. Ancak tazelik ve ferahlık harika şekilde yakalanmış. Bu markanın açık şekilde ortada olan "kalite" vurgusu Verano için de geçerli. Montabaco da çok beğendiğim kadifemsi tütün burada biraz geriye çekilmiş. Hatta ilk başta yok gibi. "Buradayim" demesi biraz zaman alıyor. Turunçgiller ailesinden meyveleri soyarken burnunuza gelen asidik ferahlık burada ön planda. Hepsine yumuşak bir misk eşlik ediyor. Markanın tarzı değil ama ben olsam bu parfüme " Blue Montabaco" derdim. Şişe de bu isme uyardı.

A wonderfully scented liquid that the longer you keep it, the richer and more experienced it becomes than any other perfume. A gift that Linda created for gentlemen who love the scent of Aventus but need something new (not the same but they have the same vibe). The scent can cover a space in the cool seasons and last on the skin until the end of the day. When I finished the bottle of Verano, I was wondering whether I would buy it or Montabaco Intensivo again because both are wonderful and give me memorable experiences. 10 out of 10 *A scent for real gentlemen, not for young boys.

What i love about fragrance is they're all so subjective. For me Montabaco Verano is my favourite scent of all time; I adore the fresh blast of grapefruit and bergamot followed by the luxurious tobacco. Radiates off of me and I love getting whiffs of it throughout the day. Lasts 8+ hours on my skin and a couple days on my clothing, this scent just hits for me. I'd recommend buying a sample first; not a safe blind buy especially at $400 AUD per 88ml bottle, 10/10 for me.

Opens with a blast of chilled grapefruit and orange that feels very much like 'cold mountain air', settles down after an hour and becomes much more aromatic with powdery tobacco, suede, and a woody green tea note. Muskier too, but still feels clean and dry. Warm weather appropriate, projects quite loudly off my skin. Can stand alone or layered with something fruitier for a nice counterbalance.

Wow! 3 out of 3 for Ormonde Jayne for me. Everything I've tried from this house has been beautiful. This is no exception. What a stunning opening, reminding me of Myths Man and its bright ashiness, which I really love. It lasts a fair while on my skin too. I can see this being a mainstay of my spring/summers from now on. Really very good perfume.

Absolutely fantastic scent! Opens up with a semi sweet fresh tart grapefruit and tobacco. As it transitions into the mid woods and leather appear and it's a divine combination. Performance is also fantastic, lasts on skin well over 12 hours and can smell it on my clothes the next day. 10/10

Beautiful, strong, absolutely masculine salty mosses with citrus and tobacco. For those who prefer light body of perfume with dark profile. It’s not just fresh/citrus perfume at all, summer also to hot for it, autumn fit the best. Longevity is above average and silage is pretty good.

Starts off very fruity, fresh then after about 10 minutes it settles down into a strong woody green smooth tobacco leaf scent. It’s potent and would say a maximum of 2-3 sprays is more than enough, could we worn all year round but I think it would make a great spring/summer scent

I’m surprised it is voted for more-on-the-male-side-unisex. This scent gives me “old money rich woman goes on vacation” vibe - as the best way possible. Sophisticated summery fragrance, I love it. I’ll get the 10ml version, way too pricey to get the full bottle.

This was actually released in November 2019 as a Harrods exclusive. Think Montabaco with added grapefruit opening. Huge fresh burst then the smooth drydown. This is perfect for warmer weather days/evenings. My favourite buy for a long time. All aboard 🚂🚂🚂🚂

Beautiful Grapefruit blast to start then there is the leather dry down. It is familiar, but also unique. It can be an everyday or signature scent very easily. 10/10 longevity 8/10 sillage 10/10. Would recommend

I have Sospiro Vibrato, and I also have this one. The two are very similar. Vibrato has better sillage, better longevity, and a better price. The smell is very nice and unique for both.

Got a travel spray and whoa this is good. Classy masculine and elegant. Performance is persistent but not overbearing. Definitely worth trying at least. I ordered a bottle.

My newest #1 with Xerjoff Don being #2 now. You cant explain this but it reminds me of summer nights on the beach when I would surf with friends and camp out on the beach

I absolutely adore this perfume. While I find it difficult to fault the fragrance itself—indeed, I cherish it—that's precisely where the problem lies: its shockingly short longevity. The sillage is quite potent, sufficiently so to make others notice the fresh tobacco leaf scent, beautifully blended with a bitter, refreshing tea note. The citrus element provides a subtle yet delightful initial kick, while the floral undertones, mingled with juniper, create a perfectly balanced unisex fragrance. However, despite applying a generous amount to both arms, the back of my neck, chest, and so on, the scent barely lingers for a solid three hours. I wish this were an exaggeration, but none of my acquaintances seem to detect it on my skin. They might catch a whiff of the bitter, unburnt tobacco note from my shirt if they make an effort to smell it directly, but otherwise, the fragrance seems to vanish entirely after just a few hours. That said, I don’t believe this issue is typical of Ormonde Jayne perfumes, as I also own Levant, Montabaco Rio, and Cuba, along with a few others I’ve had previously, and they all tend to last longer. I’m uncertain whether the issue lies with this particular fragrance or perhaps with my skin chemistry, but I simply cannot understand how others find this perfume long-lasting.

This is a great smelling fragrance. My main hitch is that after the opening notes wear off, which is pretty quickly, it smells almost identical to Bois de Vetiver by Karl Lagerfeld. I absolutely love Bois de Vetiver, but I wouldn’t buy this one due to the similarities. There may be a very small difference when comparing these two side by side, but I really think that it would be hard to blind pick which is which. Now, I’m not sure how that’s possible when looking at the notes to each. For one, I smell zero leather in the Ormonde. I also see a tobacco note, which I also get none of that note either. This Ormonde seems to be a fresh fragrance, not a dark one like it’s categorized. I love Ormonde Man, and the new Gatsby 22 is great as well. In general the House is awesome. This would be great if you don’t own BDV; however, if you care to price compare, BDV is way WAY less expensive and somehow pulls off what I would consider equivalent quality of a fragrance. **update** I recently got the Montebaco Intensivo which I made a similar review to this one with the Bois de Vetiver. I still have the sample of this one, and this still smells more similar to the BDV than the Montebaco Intensivo, but it’s obvious they are from the same line. This one is an unnecessary flanker in my opinion.

You take the patented Montabaco aroma of smoky, suede-like tobacco and mix it with grapefruit candy. That is basically what you get here. The citrus-like hard candy smell is not done in childish or overly sweet way. It's done in a fresh, classy and spicy way suited for men. It's the lightest and freshest of the 3 main releases of the Montabaco line and is the best suited for the warm/hot weather...but Intensivo can be used all year round too. Personally, I'd rank them as follows: 1. Intensivo 2. Verano 3. Original To me, the original is a distant 3rd because the smoky, tobacco accord in the original has a slight animalic or stale quality to it that doesn't mix well with my chemistry. The Intensivo and Verano versions mix well with my chemistry...but the Intensivo version is beefier...has more depth, more presence. Verano is relatively thinner and more simple. It's hard to find the Montabaco line at decent prices these days...so I'd go for the cheaper of the two if you can find a material price difference at discounters. In a perfect world where cost wasn't an issue for me, I'd choose Intensivo hands down.

Its a good frag. But it just have weak perfomance. Soft feeling frag. Very masculine . PR 7/10 I cant ask for better perfomance otherwise the leather scent would be too harsh. This is well blended perfume and we just have to decide whether we like this or not. No complain! 😍 Edit : after almost a year now, my bottle is 1/2 used (since i have alot of perfumes in my collection). I stood up to what i have said. This is a well blended perfume, open bright and slowly you can smell a very smooth leather and tobacco. Will not make you headache for sure. Elegant and class. Imagine a good looking 30-40 man, casually dressed with tshirt,jeans and sneakers walk along Rodeo drive in California. Elegant. But to me this is not a confidence booster kind of fragrance.

I have a 7ml sample of this and have been testing it for several months now. I will say I love the smell of this more every time I wear it. It's very clean and masculine feeling. It's definitely signature scent worthy for someone who wants something a little "different" while still being fresh. Unfortunately, it doesn't perform too well on my skin. It projects well for the first 2 hours, then for the next two hours I occasionally get wafts of it. But after the 4th or 5th hour I can't smell it at all (not even as a skin scent). At this price point I'd prefer it to linger around a little bit longer, especially if I were to use this as a daytime scent. At this point I don't think I'll buy a bottle of it.

This is an interesting one, which I own but didn't have enough time to experience properly yet. For performance and longevity, you'll find plenty of reviews below. As I sprayed it today, it immediately reminded me of something else (equally good...)... so I scrolled through the "Reminds me of" carousel and there you go... Tygar! I absolutely get the comparison, which is 80% there... although, also looking at the notes this one reaches a similar scent through a combination of different notes. In fact, if you check Tygar's composition you wouldn't think that Verano could be similar. In essence, Verano's combination of orange, (light) tobacco and suede are resulting in something very Tygaresque 🐅

this is only my second experience with ormonde jayne. the scent has a massive grapefruit and wood opening - and eventually dries down to an aromachemical mix of popular woods. it reminds me of Spirit of Kings Arakkis - which is a loose clone of Louis Vuitton Limensite. I havent really decided if i like it or if i think it's annoying. I can understand why people like it. In general, it's a pleasing scent - fairly unique (At leas the opening). It certainly seems like it could be worn for multiple occasions - both casual and formal. At this price point, it seems a bit simplistic - but it does last a long time. I dont know. 6/10

To me the original Montabaco was just a Meh, but I like this one.. Tried a sample yesterday, getting close to people they could notice my perfume, got one compliment, and now after more than 12hrs I still can notice it around myself.. Is it worth the price? I think NO.. If I had to pay that much money for a perfume, I would surely choose "Nawab of Oudh" from the same house, which plays in a totally different league..

An interesting little mix this one, fresh citrus, suede and tobacco which doesn’t sound like a great match on paper but it works quite well. The tobacco and citrus are the main players to me and the suedy woody cashmeran plays a strong backup note. I think this one would work well on cooler summer nights for more mature guys.

Tremendous, with a sharp grapefruit note at the beginning that lingers but doesn't overpower. The dry down is a calm, warm scent that feels close. Wore it on a slightly chillier day, interested to see how it performs in higher heat.

Oh, this is fantastic! Definitely more masculine. There's a very luxurious, sophisticated vibe to it. Great performance. The leather/citrus combination is so perfect for the warmer weather. 😍 Edit: added to my hubby's wishlist 😅

This is a really odd one for me. It goes through so many stages on my skin. Bright grapefruit, smokey tabacco, then a very strange metallic stage before mellowing off.

Reminds me of Ajmal Blu, these “blue” scents tend to give me headaches... not a fan of the opening at alll, the dry down however is pleasant to say the most

Grapefruit over suede. Nice, but Montabaco Intensivo plays in a different league.

Have you ever filled a bottle or a glass with water after another drink was in it? Like drinking a glass of soda, then filling that glass with water and taking a sip without cleaning it first. You’re tasting water, but with this weird aftertaste and slight hint of the previous drink. That’s what Verano is. The aftertaste of a better fragrance. Tygar. Vibrato. Whatever grapefruit dominant fragrance you prefer. Verano is the watered down aftertaste of that style of fragrance. I really struggle with this one. I struggle to detect it. And I struggle to pick out many of the notes from it when I do detect it. It smells like the Tygar DNA if you somehow diluted the formula with some kind of air molecules (I guess that would be the “Mountain Air” note or accord). What that leaves you with is a juicy/candied grapefruit style fragrance that is more “air” than grapefruit, so it just diffuses into the air and struggles to announce itself or make its presence known. And that’s why most of the reviews, in particular the recent reviews, are calling it weak, a skin scent, or say it doesn’t last long. It just isn’t... there. Up close, sure, it’s nice enough. And when I say up close I mean literally nose to skin. It’s a more serious Tygar/Vibrato type fragrance thanks to the added Montabaco DNA to go with the grapefruit. But you get almost *none* of the up close scent in the air, in your scent bubble, or in your sillage. You, or anyone near you, won’t get much of anything. The promise of this fragrance, and the potential of its DNA is let down massively by its formulation and performance. I am not someone who thinks every scent needs to be a beast. But this one simply put, needs to be stronger. To both justify its price, and to fulfill its purpose.

The tobacco in this really comes off like cigarettes. Maybe its because of the combination of the tobacco with the suede and leather, but it does have a "smoker's scent" vibe to it. In no way is this a sweet, piped tobacco. Because of that it isn't an easy, dumb reach kind of wear. It is light, and it is a spring/summer type scent, but it doesn't have a breezy, casual sillage. In the air it comes across cold and serious, with only a light hint of citrus. This is gonna be a weird comparison, and it's not exact, but you know that feeling of drinking orange juice *after* brushing your teeth? Yes you can taste the citrus but the toothpaste and mouthwash makes it bitter. That's this fragrance. It's a bitter citrus. None of that makes it bad, but it does make it specific. Definitely sample before buying, and definitely wear it on skin before buying a full bottle. I have a feeling that this scent will be good for some people, and almost unwearable to others, as illustrated by the reviews below calling it a "scrubber"

After reading lots of reviews I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it is definitely not a good blind buy. I can’t get the grapefruit in the opening. Instead, the powdery is so strong and it still remains there after dry down. To be honest I can’t say for sure which season it is good for but it gives me a strong feeling of hot. It makes me agitated. Also, I don’t pick up any tabaco and leather at all. To me it is overrated.
