Osmanthus

It's so pretty, oh so pretty ... spanking-fresh and surprisingly tenacious citrus surrounding a beautiful flowery accord, giving an aura of cool, gentle, unisex-to-femme command which lasts a whole day. Might be my favourite of the OJ light florals; it's got a lot in common with the more lemony, flowery aspects of OJ Qi and Montabaco, so you'll recognise echoes of those if you already have or have tried them. It's a scent analogue to a fresh, crisp, well-ironed linen shirt, simply the perfect thing to make you feel poised and neat and cool-headed. Still floral and sweet enough not to feel chilly or alienating, and with something this appealing, you could throw 'seasonal scenting' out of the window and make it work all year round, even on colder days. Definitely not just a hot-weather refresher, though to my nose that's where its closest fragrance siblings lie - things like SL Fleurs de Citronnier, MFK Aqua Universalis, Memo Inle, Nishane Wulong Cha, all that jazz. (And the intimidatingly high quality of that company of friends tells you, again, just how good this really is.) It is completely un-cloying even through it's unexpectedly strong, never girly even though it's pretty feminine, and clean-yet-classy enough to dodge all the 'summer freshie' cliches. Yet ANOTHER example of OJ making something I love in a genre I don't even usually like. This house must have some magic dust in the mix. I am no osmanthus-purist or osmanthus-gardener so I can't say how true to the real life flower it is; all I know is that in a bottle it really is scarily close to perfect. Deeply impressive.

Osmanthus flower plays an important role in Chinese culture. Osmanthus has the same pronunciation as word "honor" in chinese, so people thought it stands for wealth and rank. In old days, almost every high society family would have this plant in their gardens. As the osmanthus flower has the honey-ish sweet smell, chinese people love to use it to flavor food. The local shops also have monothemed osmanthus fragrances sold on their shelvs. This love for osmanthus made me quite exciting when I got a small sample of this scent, I expected a realistic osmanthus smell. But it turned into a little bit disappointment after trying it on: OJ's Osmanthus is not what I expected, it not at all resemble to the real flower. It has juicy pomelo in the openning, very fresh, then some sweet notes here and there, not floral nor fruity, something light and between. This is the only thing that I could link the scent with the real osmanthus flower, it's like a faint image you get from a sketch. Despite the disappointment, I can't deny its lovely aspects. This is the most cheerful scent I got so far. Smell of spring! It's simple, linear(it doesn't change much, only less citrusy and more softer), but it does the trick. If you expect a "real" osmanthus scent as I did, then don't bother to try, it won't satisfy you. But if you are finding something up-lifting, lovely with a hint of osmanthus feel but not overwhelming, OJ's Osmanthus would be what you're looking for.

Today is the day I have fully finished my 120ml bottle of Osmanthus. I noticed that for 10 years since I have worn this I have never felt the need to write a review, so I guess it is time. In all honesty I will miss this, I have nothing like Osmanthus in my collection. It opens bright, citrusy and absolutely stunning with white flowers, summer breeze and feminine fruitiness. It truly is a stunner, I get compliments every single time I wear it. It stays on my skin for 7+ hours projecting nicely and never turns in to a very intimate skin scent which I enjoy, I don't like to struggle to feel my scent. The drydown is also truly magical - woody yet fresh and citrus/floral notes still are very present which I feel does not happen very often. I struggle with musk often, but here i would not say it is very present and suffocating (which is my usual issue). Truly a gem! I have so many more fragrances to enjoy of what I own, to try which I have not tried and to be fair I am also not in a habit of repurchasing, but if I would be a person who enjoys just few bottles and has their signature/seasonal fragrances, I would give this a spot as my summer scent with 0 doubts. This is the scent that made me want to try every single thing by Ormonde Jayne and it brings a smile to my face when I get to wear this all day long. Goodbye, Osmanthus, what a happiness it has been to wear you!

Freshy with character... This is special, also taking into account its fresh nature and simplicity of its components.... but the blending here is fantastic, which I find is the main Ormande Jayne's signature in all of their offerings.... the focus on their compositions, the end result. It is citrusy and floral, with 2 of my favorites notes in perfumery (jasmine and osmanthus), and all of this spiced up by pimento pepper and extended trough a comforting vetiver, makes this juice a perfect signature scent, not only for summer and completely unisex. Very elegant. In fact, I think this would also appeal to men that do not see themselves with flowers, so I think this could be the beginning for them. I did not expect to like this fragrance, as I usually find "warm and sunny" citrus-based fragrances problematic for me. I think what really makes this special is the addition of beautiful floral and musk notes that keep this from seeming to "sparkling" to me. I find this scent stays more linear throught it's wear, which is unlike so many of the Ormonde fragrances that really bloom and change over time. The dry down smells much like the opening, just less citrus. This has turned out to be one of my favorite scents from the line, it is just perfect for warm weather when one wants something with a little impact without being overly heavy. I just adore this fragrance and it ended up being one of my first full bottle purchases from this line.

The unmistakeable fruity fragrance of osmanthus that gets some citrus zip from the pomelo which is unmistakeable. I like the way the jasmine and lotus make the perfect supporting act to the leading performers adding some freshnessness and more depth. The vetiver and the artemesia come much more to the fore as the lead actors bow out after half an hour. They add their own herbally freshness with the musk their to restrain any potential harshness. I really like the opening but unfortunately I am not so keen once the transient osmanthus has gone. I know osmanthus is most definitely a top note and it doesnt last long. What a shame! It would be gorgeous to wear in a warm conditions.

Oh, this is PRETTY. So pretty. That gorgeous little pomelo lifts OJ's Osmanthus to another level. This perfume is sunny, bright, happy and a wonderfully grown-up fruity floral! Never cloying or sickeningly sweet, but warm, spicy, well-rounded beauty in a bottle. Projection is rather good. There's something generally more substantial to this fragrance that grabs the attention. I think it's the paprika - the prickly heat raises the profile of the scent, whereas the most of the other osmanthus fragrances I've tried keep their heads down, tend to be gentler floral compositions and stay in the background in comparison. Longevity is excellent.

This is not the smell of true osmanthus absolute, but it's an exquisite interpretation! Think of this as an upscale Roger & Gallat, with almost every facet amplified without heaviness. The pomelo is juicy and fruity as opposed to citrusy, and I smell more water lily than jasmine, with a clean powdery aftertaste. It's very classy, inoffensive, and suitable for everyday. The reviews are right. This is pomelo and water lily - very aquatic and fresh, and has very little to do with the osmanthus flower itself. For an aquatic floral, this is really thick with 30% oil, but the silage is pleasant and the scent feels transparent. To be honest it also feels generic - this profile has been done many times over. Reminds me of the garden series by Hermes and actually a lot of Hermes scents because of the transparency and watercolor vibe to it. But this one lasts on my skin a few lifetimes longer than any Hermes.

As someone who truly appreciates perfume but by no means considers myself an expert, this is one of my most favorite scents, and I’ve tried a lot. It smells like sun kissed skin, mellow spring flowers and the most expensive haircut from a salon that uses decadent products. It smells flowery but deep and rich and adult, like I’m a woman in my 30s and a mom and now I smell like the most clean and romantic and best version of myself.

Light and crisp, yet soft. I mostly get Osmanthus with musk and a realistic, slightly funky (in a good way!), green aquatic note. It’s making me think of fresh algae. And if I didn’t know any better, I’d suspect there was a touch of ambergris in this. The subtly funky aquatic note makes the whole thing read traditionally masculine to me. Can’t wait to try this in the heat of summer.

Very lovely summer perfume. There is lot of bad comment about it but I don't think so Osmanthus is a poor floral. There is something in drydow, creamy, cute and uplifting. Osmanthus also very long lasting perfume and I got many compliments when I wear it. I really like it so much and need a another bottle before the end of the bottle in my perfume wardrob.

This scent is delightful indeed... True sensuality in liquid form... It starts very subtle and citrusy, then the water lily and jasmine sambac reveal themselves...after an hour or so, it starts to settle into a gentle and sophisticated cedar and animalic musk...which is sensual and erotic... Great longevity and sillage...

I wore Osmanthus yesterday and many people asked me what is my perfume. I went to L'occitane shop and sales woman said "i really like your perfume, its smell very fresh and beautiful". It is pure beauty and very refreshing. I'm feel very happy when i wear it and smell Osmanthus. Love you Osmanthus!

This is a sparklng and modern Perry Ellis 360° with a soft leather finish. I quite like the throwback nod, while still maintaining a beautiful freshness. Interesting how certain notes can whip you back in time with your feet firmly planted in the now. This Osmanthus interpretation is a keeper.

I can't express how much Im enjoying this perfume, I guess its one of the top perfumes in Ormonde Jayne line. it gives u all the reasons to be happy and simply feel lively. its a fragrance that u can wear with confidence in all times. I'm just loving it. Over all: 9.5/10

A much more fruity and happy version of Nawab of Oudh. Sparkling grapefruit soda with big waterlily heart. Despite the name this is not an osmanthus centric scent. But very nice.

I’ve now tried it in summer, and it’s still wonderful. One difference, however, is that the osmanthus is reading less apricot-floral and more new leather or suede.

Bright, bracing floral-aquatic scent. Smells a bit like a high-end bath product and skews more youthful.

I smell leather in the opening. I was surprised not to find a leather or suede note in the list. Maybe it's an illusion from the labdanum base or even the pimento pepper? I find this much more leathery than spicy or hot. The pomelo is also very noticeable at first, it's similar to a fresh and juicy grapefruit. Uplifting and zesty. Otherwise the scent stays true to its name, Osmanthus. I have unfortunately not smelled the real flower yet, but in perfumes it always makes me think of a cooler, cleaner, less sweet peach or apricot scent. Together with the water lily it builds a nicely aquatic, dewy floral accord. The overall impression is clean, but not really shampoo-ish in my opinion. To my nose it's clearly more on the traditionally feminine side of things, but it might work differently on a man's skin. I expect a little more complexity and wow-factor in this price range, but I like this fragrance. It's especially nice for warm days. As it's not terribly strong, an extra spray or two help to make the scent shine.

As far as I know, I have never smelled osmanthus flowers, so can't judge how close this scent comes to the real thing, or where the "osmanthus" note is in the mix. The good thing about not knowing is that I could not be disappointed if there was nothing osmanthus-like in the scent. I tried my sample for the first time last night, and the scent is still lingering this morning, so it has good staying power. It starts out with a smooth citrusy, herbal, floral bouquet that remains throughout the evolution of the scent. After about a half hour, I found that the most prominent impression was of green tea with jasmine. In fact, I would classify this as a "tea" scent rather than a floral. The drydown holds no surprises, it's just a gradual fading of everything. I really didn't get much in the way of base notes. My opinion is that floral scents smell good only on flowers, not on me, but thanks to its strong tea notes, OJ's Osmanthus is a "floral" that I could wear on occasion.

Osmanthus from Ormonde Jayne is a tropical fruity and floral scent which is great for the summer. It utilises the unique note of pomelo at the forefront of the scent, which is reminiscent of grapefruit with a hint of mango, alongside the star of the show which is osmanthus - with its milky apricot accord. From here it has a gentle heart of white florals, namely water lily and jasmine, which are delicate and elegant. There’s a slight spiciness from the pimento as it settles into a musky base of cedar and labdanum. This is a very pleasant fruity floral scent and works really well in the warmer weather, however it’s very gentle and lacks some much needed depth and character. Overall a very pleasant fragrance but not worth the retail price.

Was bracing myself for disappointment after reading the reviews of soapiness, as that is usually not something I am into. I don't find this soapy. It's a citrussy, softly herbal, (in a fruity way, like verbena) and the osmanthus and water lily add an exotic, aquatic feel. This really reminds me of a perfume I had and loved before it turned chemical on me (Molinard Aqua Lotus.) This is really beautiful, I could wear this in summer and spring months. It's also very unisex, it has a slight masculine vibe - the aquatics and musk and touch of herbs that are often so present in male perfumes. But overall citrussy, fruity, soft exotic soft herbs. Might not be a show stopper but very wearable, very fresh, very enjoyable.

As someone who grew up with osmanthus flowers, I have to say that Ormonde Jayne's Osmanthus does not smell like the authentic flower; however, it smells very pleasant and refreshing. To me, it smells like freshly squeezed grapefruit juice mixed with iced jasmine tea. It is quite sweet, but not overly sweet like the sugar bombs that are taking over the designer market right now. Instead, it smells like it was sweetened with a tad bit of raw honey. The tartness from the citrusy notes and the sweetness makes my mouth water. The smell is almost good enough to drink on a hot summer day.

I've been revisiting my Ormonde Jayne Discovery set. Osmanthus was something I passed over on my first go round as not being terribly interesting but I've spent enough time with Woman, Man and Orris Noir that their novelty has worn off enough that I can look at the other, less out there Ormonde Jayne's. This is actually a very lovely and unique fragrance. I don't get much of the citrus. For me it's a gorgeous, plush and almost buttery floral scent with the standard Ormonde Jayne cedar and iso e super dry down. There really isn't a bad scent in this line.

This is exactly the kind of fragrance to wear walking around quaint English towns, looking in design shops, organic supermarkets, art galleries and artisan bakeries - with a lover, of course. It is a stemmy, romantic green floral, with enough poetry to cast a spell. Yes, it smells like shampoo, there's no denying it, but that's not always a bad thing. I enjoy that it's not too sweet, whilst remaining very feminine. I can imagine it being achingly attractive on the right person. I have a place for fragrances like this.

A bright summery citrusy scent that is truly hard to dislike. This floral fruity offering opens briefly with notes of citrusy pomelo fruit surrounded by slight differences pimento pepper and artemisia. This leads to the dense citrus laden osmanthus heart which is surrounded by slight jasmine and water lily notes. The perfume dries off to a vetiver base which is surrounded by hints of cedar, synthetic musk and labdanum. Unisex with moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. A perfect summer scent. Enjoy!

Sweet apricot and milky-pollen florals, on top of a softly fuzzy wood base. To my nose this is quite different from the Elixir version, and I prefer it. The Elixir version has a bit of a mulchy, mossy element that I don't really care for, and its crisp fruitiness is more pronounced. By contrast, this version is sweeter, smoother, and creamier. Unfortunately, it loses me after an hour or so, turning somewhat filmy and synthetic in the dry down.

Sample gifted which om testing from...initially i was seduced by the bright juicy uplifting top notes...they dissipated quite soon into the frag to leave a soft floral heart. I dont smell the paprika but ibget some sort of heat radiating from my wrist. I changed my rating from love to like because now this is on the dry down i get a similar impression / vibe as cool water!

Beautifully fresh and aquatic fragrance with pollenated white florals, like dewy and sparkling shampoo. Perfect for warm/hot weather, spring and summer. Sits at arms length on my skin, will need to be reapplied if it's to last 8+ hours.

Picture a summer evening somewhere in South Europe... The night is slowly falling on a city tired from heat. You are strolling through the city to the meeting spot where you are going to join your friends. You pass people enjoying dinner and each other's company, sitting outside at the tables in restaurants and cafes. Streetlights work their magic, pouring soft, gold light on lush bushes and trees, creating a relaxed summer ambient for long strolls and long deep conversations. Buildings and the ground haven't cooled down - you can feel the warmth under your feet and throughout your body. No hint of wind. The air smells how it can only smell in summer - a bit dusty from dry earth, full of the scent of leaves and slightly sweet summer flowers, and a little heavy. Even though you showered less than 30 minutes ago, you feel a little sweaty. You are wearing leather sandals and carrying a bottle of wine in your leather tote. Another nice summer evening full of laughter in your friends' company awaits. This is how Osmanthus from Ormande Jayne smells to me.

Osmanthus is quite masculine in my opinion. It isn't a bad perfume but not what I was expecting. Very watery and translucent. Slight apricot and leather nuances come through but essentially this is a very watery citrus/floral/woody/fresh spicy fragrance/cologne for a man. And what I mean by the word watery is in texture, this has lasting power. I think the best osmanthus for me will always be Jean Patou 1000. This cannot hold a candle to that masterpiece. My husband will wear this as a summer cologne. Not for me.

The opening brings me scent memories of being a little girl and helping my dad mix his shaving cream. That made me think it might be too masculine for me, but the dry down settled into a clean feminine vibe. Edit: later on in the experience getting summer childhood scent memories and loving it! Edit 2: sadly, the vetiver turns rubbery on me and now I can’t not smell it. Heartbroken!

Very nice light spring/summery fragrance, but living in the city where there are Osmanthus trees everywhere, New Orleans, as well as having two in my front garden, I can assure you that this smells nothing at all like Osmanthus. If that is what you are looking for, continue the search. Nice fragrance otherwise.

i think i would like this more on a partner, i prefer far more feminine scents. fwiw, it's a very clean, nearly spicy scent. borderline soapy, i think this would be perfect in warmer weather or for a "just out of the shower" feel

Very fresh and easy going osmanthus. A bit shampoo-ish, lighter, fresher and more citrusy than the osmanthus versions of Molinard (Osmanthus), Serge Lutens (Nuit de Cellophane) or Kilian (Good girl gone bad). Quite generic too.

Such a clean professional/refined spring/summer scent very ozonic and airy pomelo tea smell definitely one of my favorite scent overall. sillage 5/10 longevity 7/10 scent 7/10

Citrusy and bright, high end lotion, spa-like, jasmine tea, lightly floral. Unisex

Stinging, aquatic calone and a vague, airy floral shampoo note. There is not a trace of osmanthus here, just a slight fruitiness mingling with the bitter salt spray. It smells like a cheap designer sports fragrance you might find in a chemist for a fraction of the price. I don't understand the hype about Ormonde Jayne at all. The entire collection is full of transparent, boring 'smelled it before' creations that are not luxurious enough for the price she charges.

i keep trying osmanthus scents trying to find one that actually smells like osmanthus but they are few and far between. this starts with citrus, woods and aquatics. i find it very unisex and it smells like a lot of other scents. no osmanthus to be found here...

It reminds me California Clementine by Atelier Cologne or some of aqua Allegorias. I guess I was expecting something more from Ormonde Jayne.. expensive and delicates notes? No. Just ordinary fresh scent on my hot skin which doesn't like citrus.

Unfortunately this one doesn't agree with me at all. When I wear it, it smells a bit 'funky' somehow, maybe a stale sauna vibe with a hint of suncream. I don't like giving negative reviews so I assume it's just the way it smells on my skin.

This is not working with my chemistry. The notes are promising and what I’m drawn to, but it turns into a synthetic mess on my skin. The first hour smells like transmission fluid on a floral base. It’s very thick and suffocating. That note, whatever it is, does settle down but I’m left with barbershop smell. It smells better on my clothes, than on my skin. I’ll give my husband a chance to try it before I toss the bottle. Maybe his chemistry will react differently. If it doesn’t and he doesn’t like the “I’m working on a car” scent, then quite possibly I got a rancid bottle, which is a shame because it was expensive.

Grossly soapy...so glad it doesn’t last very long.
