Sybarite

I recently visited London to smell perfumes and this was first on my list. I couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards, so purchased via email. I've had it for 2 days now and have worn it both days, I'm in love. I like sweet scents and given OJ tends to do elegant, classic style perfumery, I wasn't sure if this would be sweet enough for me. However it is - it's slightly gourmand leaning and has a natural subtle sweetness throughout that I adore. The hazelnut and vanilla are most prominent to me, and it makes me think of the classiest version of Kinder Bueno filling, however it never becomes creamy but has a slight richness that stops it from being a dry scent either. As it dries down it makes me think of the little hazelnut chunks you find on the side of Happy Hippos (my favourite thing in the world) - it's not quite powdery, or dusty, but it has a delicious textural element. I find it balances a warm nutty nature with a slightly cool iris and musk aspect, and the two compliment each other so is both refined and perfume-y with a freshness, but slightly reminiscent of edible treats too. Longevity is great and the sillage is moderate to me, I got wafts throughout my day which made me feel wrapped in a cosy hazelnut blanket, but don't imagine it projects loads which is totally fine by me. Expensive but what a treat! 💜

Contrary to what a lot of people say, it's not very similar to Guidance to my nose. Yes, it's the same family, but it's significantly different from start to end. It opens with very sweet, almost sirupy hazelnut and I loooove that. After that, the pepper comes and honestly I'm not the biggest fan of this phase - it reminds me of cummin or some other spice, especially when I smell the perfume close to my skin... But it's not bothering me too much. After lets say 30-45 minutes that goes more to the background and I get woody, musky, sweet vanilla with a very yummy and sexy twist that I really enjoy. I would say this is maybe if Guidance and Bianco latte had a baby with a very strong personality of their own.

What a beautiful fragrance! Nutty and buttery but not at all in a Nutella way. This is hard to describe because the notes make you think you got a gourmand fragrance here but it’s not gourmand at all. I am reminded of Guidance but not all aspects of it. Guidance has a certain sharpness to it and here, Sybarite has no sharpness at all whatsoever. I am also reminded of Lost in Paris because of that buttery note but again, it’s not a copy of Lost in Paris either. Sybarite has a subtle sweetness but it’s more perfume-y than gourmand and I really like it. My 5ml decant will be used rather quickly...

Beautiful, soft, sensual, and chic. The sophistication of some of the Ormonde Jayne scents is unmatched. I slept on the brand for years. This is soft, hazelnut, vanilla cream. But not juvenile at all. The Timur note in the opening reads herbal to me (but I feel that way about grapefruit, so it makes sense). Thankfully for me, it doesn’t last and just adds a tiny astringency to what would otherwise be sweet. In the end, the tinge of floral elevates this alongside that vanilla cream/nutty sensation.

An enveloping aroma of hazelnut-vanilla milk spiced with a bit of pepper. A luxurious and rich fragrance for wearing with your most elegant outfits. This fragrance does not scream or shout, it does so gently but very confidently. I stumbled upon this bottle at Lubner in Berlin and immediately decided to buy it. @Adancy07 there aren't any samples of sybarite and you can only buy it at the Mayfair boutique (or you can email the boutique). I went there to try it - it was extremely long lasting and utterly gorgeous, but ended up falling in love with Evernia and bought that instead, but am thinking of sybarite for next year. It's really not sweet in any conventional sense.

Super surprised to find this at Parfums Lubner in Berlin. I sprayed it on my left wrist and kept sniffing it all day long. By our next-to-last day in Berlin, I had to go back and buy it. It's so warm and comforting.

Love that people are giving bad reviews for something they never smelled since it's only available at their store. It's so good. The haters out here are beyond.

Ugh! What’s with all the 😡?????

I'm in the USA and received my bottle two days ago (ordered from the OJ website when it was briefly available). First, I have to say how disappointed I was that after paying $370 USD minus a small discount of $58, Ormonde Jayne couldn't be bothered to include a free sample or two. I've purchased fragrances from Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, Serge Lutens, and many other sites, and always, always receive free samples. That, on top of waiting over three weeks for Sybarite to arrive kind of made the shopping experience less than excellent. For this kind of money, it should've been. On to the review. Sybarite opens strikingly similar to Amouage Guidance as others have stated. To confirm, I wore Sybarite on my left hand and Guidance on my right, and for the first 20+ minutes they smelled almost the same. Guidance is a bit sharper to my nose. In the dry down, Sybarite becomes a very comforting semi-gourmand scent with the hazelnut and vanilla notes standing out the most to my nose. I don't capture the orris as much as I hoped, but this was only my first full wear. In a few days, I will give it another proper wear and comeback with an update. So far, it's a like for me. Want to test more to get a better read on sillage and projection. Also, the violet purple bottle is very pretty! Be back for more of a review later. Edit 2/5/26 - I am selling my bottle on Merc. I like this but it's too similar to Amouage Guidance IMO for me to keep both.

Vanilla and plenty of pepper from the start. The timur note adds an interesting twist, a brief, pleasant lift in this a bit bitter peppery orris-vanilla scent. It resembles a less sweet Bianco Latte with pepper, which completely overshadows the florals. The longevity is better than that of many other Ormonde Jayne fragrances. The best part of the wearing experience is the drydown—both on my skin and on my clothes. Ormonde Jayne has a real talent for a clean, beautiful finish without any unwanted after‐notes. Update: This is a fragrance one probably buys for oneself, as it seems the wearer perceives it quite differently from those around her. I wore it to work, quietly pleased to have on a scent that few people, if any, are wearing. To my surprise, one of my colleagues remarked that she recognised on me a Zara perfume (though she couldn’t recall which one at the time), while another said I smelled distinctly of coconut. So much so that she claimed there was a strong coconut scent throughout my office. Strange, because all I personally detect as strong is vanilla and orris root.

Sybarite is unmistakably Ormonde Jayne. My nose has learned to pick out that sophisticated OJ DNA, and I'm fairly sure it's some combination of sparkly cold pink pepper mashed together with the more pungent Timur. It's right there in the opening. I love when a house builds its own face — that matters more than ever now, when new brands are appearing faster than you can keep track of them. Sybarite is a night out fragrance for me. Incredibly elegant, a touch powdery but refined. Expertly crafted and fairly linear. The purple accents on the bottle carry the idea perfectly. This is a cozy composition that stays gourmand without ever crossing into edible territory — it doesn't sit on top of you, it wraps around you and stays close all evening. The dry down is accented with fruit. No hazelnuts on me. Maybe one day?

What a beauty!! It’s a “gourmand,” but not sickly sweet at all. Very refined and complex. The drydown does remind me a bit of the hazelnut note in Guidance, but that doesn’t come until much later on my skin. This is VERY long-lasting! I sprayed it on in the evening and could still smell it the next morning. Lovely!!

Stunning! The hazelnut note in here is so damn good. And no, just because it has hazelnut in it doesn’t mean it smells like Guidance lol. It does have a small element of that fragrance running through it though in the opening but it is definitely not the same by any means and Sybarite is not polarizing even though Guidance isn’t polarizing to me, I know many feel it is. This I believe will be well received by the masses but it’s not your average mass appealing fragrance if that makes sense, it’s definitely niche. It’s a sophisticated fragrance and a gourmand-ish fragrance for gourmand haters. I’m not into full on gourmands but I like when fragrances have gourmand elements so as long if they don’t smell like literal food. This one does just that, it has gourmand elements running through it but I wouldn’t consider it a full on gourmand fragrance. Sybarite was a blind buy success for me. I am absolutely in love with this fragrance! I’m going to be wearing it so much especially now as the cooler months roll in. It’s got the perfect amount of vanilla and did I mention how good that hazelnut note is? The whole fragrance smells a little sweet, nutty, creamy, floral, vanillic, woody and musky to me. Everything is blended together well that it is hard to pick out all those notes listed. I do get a lot of vanilla and hazelnut, orris, some light rose (almost rose water like) and other floral elements and some woody and musk elements as well. There’s a bit of a brightness to the fragrance as well. It is not a linear scent, it transitions. The dry down after being on my skin for many hours is woody vanilla. Overall it’s a very smooth, sexy and addictive fragrance to wear ;) Performance is great, definitely projects, leaves a scent trail and lasts a long time on skin and clothes. 10/10 - it’s in my top 5 best discoveries of 2025.

I tried this at the Mayfair boutique in October last year, then received a bottle for Christmas from my lovely husband. I absolutely love it, it’s nuanced, warm, sweet, unusual and classy and I love the fact that it’s not something that anyone else is likely to be wearing. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I hugged two different people goodbye last night and they both said, independently of each other, that I smelled of coconut. Coconut?!? One actually said coconut sunscreen. I can’t smell that at all but actually it’s really put me off it, I don’t want to smell of coconut in the middle of winter or at any time really! Annoying.

@Vaniglia716 It's because people are pissed off that niche brands are overdosing everything with sugar and vanilla nowadays to satisfy gourmand girlies like you who loves BBW type scent profiles but for some reason are turning to niche to seek that scent profile because it makes them feel bougie for some reason and niche brands recognize that and are swooping in for the money grab. And they feel even more special if it is something not everyone can have when in reality all you do is send them an e-mail and provide your CC and voila its on its way to you!
