Vanille d'Iris

This is an absolutely sublime scent. One that reminded me of perfume's possibilities as an art form. It colored my entire day with delicious wafts of gorgeousity. I have and wear five other OJ scents but this one might be the best of them all. An absolutely heart wrenching combination of lipstick iris and smoke. One thing that is important to understand about this scent with regards to sillage and longevity is that it's an atmospheric scent, not a wrist sniffer. As with all OJs, less is more. I had only a tiny bit in a sample vial that a dear friend had sweetly decanted from her sample. After generous swiping, maybe equalling a half spray, I enjoyed it's presence all day. Then, two days later, I wore the same sweater and I swear not only did the sweater leave enough on my wrists that I continued to smell it even after I took it off, but it was only then that I think I experienced the full beauty of the drydown. The best way I can think of to describe this scent is that there are two parts. One is a beautifully rounded iris of the vintage lipstick variety. The other is a clean, dry smoke. At first, I kind of thought "Uh oh these two may not play well together." And at first they don't. It's back and forth with one popping up and then the other. Iris and incense aren't necessarily an obvious match and my doubts persisted for the first hour. But then something magic starts to happen and the rest of the scent progression is of the two gradually weaving themselves together more and more tightly like the protagonists in some kind of epic romance. It isn't until two days later on my sweater that I could actually sniff and get the final merging of the two, a sweet, complicated iris incense, clean, bright and pure. And yet, I am certain that this is what the aura of the fragrance smelled like the whole time. This one isn't just love, it's awe. Edit: Looking at the reviews and sillage and longevity votes which are all over the map, I think it bears repeating that less is more with this and all the other OJs. One time, my then husband and I went out to dinner. He was wearing OJs Isfarkand. I smelled nothing in the car there, sitting next to him in the restaurant or on the way home. It was only hours after he'd applied it, later, when we got back home, that I smelled it when I entered a room he had just left. If you are struggling with smelling it - wear less. Still can't smell it? Wear even less. I've got my Vanille d'Iris decanted into one of those little essential oil dab vials with an orifice dropper and I put a tiny swipe on my wrist and one on my shin and I've been getting gorgeous wafts all day. It also helps to avoid spraying which knocks out your olfactory apparatus even faster.

Love this! A soft spicey blast of brightness in the opening. Smells a tiny bit of carrot seed that bitter greeness carrot can give and powder. I think the carrot hums all thru most of top and heart notes. I definitely get the osmanthus pushing thru lifting the spice and iris. Osmanthus seems to really project on my skin and it's almost too much but within an hour or so the osmanthus settles and gives way to the iris. Next the vanilla starts to emerge in little simmering bubbles until the end when it comes to a full on boil and you can smell the iris and vanilla in harmony. It kinda reminds me of Iris Shot. The carrot seed is more predominant in IS. I'm not saying that this and Iris Shot by Olfactive Studio are identical, more like distant cousins. But if you like IS, this is a very safe blind buy. It does smell of a luxurious cosmetic powder or lipstick. Powdery, dry dusty not overly sweet glorious iris with vanilla playing a supportive role. Easy to wear, not monsterous projection but longevity is stellar 6 to 8hrs with only a few sprays. Lasts for days on textiles. This is my third OJ bottle and I find most of this houses' scents preform the same. (exceptions for me being Woman and Osmanthus. Those both last forever and project like crazy) OJ scents again, as evidenced by this offering, are beautifully blended and masterfully crafted. PS: Got a full bottle and I noticed this was still softly wafting after 14hrs of wear I've been wearing this for a few weeks now and it was driving me crazy the dry down was so familiar. Today it finally hit me, this smells like one of my most favorite scents ever....it's very reminisencent of Hermes L'Ambre des Merveilles. That buttery smoothes vanilla amber without the salty mineral note. Just ethereal and gorgeous.

This one smells like straight up poop. No joke, that’s all I get. I wonder if it’s the orris. I have a 10mil decant that I received as a gift coz I bought a few full bottles of OJ perfumes. And I was gifted with three, this one, Newab of Oudh which I like very much and Frangipanni which I also love. I adore Ormonde Jayne, and own quite a few of the perfumes but they have gotten weaker lately. And I have noticed that with her perfumes you have to spray it on a few times and wait a few minutes for it to develop. I have never seen this happen in any other perfume and I own dozens of FB and hundreds of decants from hundreds of Niche and Designer brands. My goal is to get my nose on every fragrance I possible can. Ok while I have been writing this review, the poop smell is now gone but now it smells like, I honestly don’t know. Something perfumey. It’s nice. But very weak. I’m not good with notes but I do know poop smell....lol I’m so glad it’s gone, I didn’t want to have to scrub my hand. I don’t use tester strips, I always test on my hand, wrist, upper arm. Perfumes always smell different on our skin than a test strip. Imho.

I bought this fragrance about 5 weeks ago and since then it has basically became my signature scent and I intend to keep it that way! Opens up with a very prominent carrot and vegetal citrus smells for about 5 minutes strong then it develops into this beautiful, powdery, earthy iris supported by the coriander with sensual, clean white florals to calm the sweet realness of the orris. The dry down on my skin is very similar only less sweet and the musk starts to make itself known, a very light musk not very animalic but quite sexy, the scent continues to mature still holding the same idea only now the vanilla decides it is time to state its presence in a smooth milky comforting manner where it shows it that it can be loud, if it wanted, yet it chooses to be gentle and soft letting the iris keep the spotlight until it tires out and insists that the vanilla deserves attention and fades... Its sweet its floral its sophisticated, an optimistic character which will make itself known on your skin. Definitely worth a try!

Hello, I have a 120ml bottle, I sold some decants and now have 50ml left in the bottle. I am selling what’s left in the original bottle and box. If you’re interested please message me. This is all I have and I wanted to reach out here first or else I will sell it on Mercari. I have a lil store. 100% positive reviews. My two other 30ml bottles sold very fast, I know this one will too. I prefer US ship only but if u are willing to pay to ship it over seas and take all responsibility then I’m fine with shipping outside of the US. I have shipped overseas before, never had a problem, it just takes very long. If you only want 15ml or less, I can do that too. But it will be safely and hygienically decanted into a nice glass perfume bottle. Let me know before I list it. I’ll give Fragrantica frag lovers til end of year before I just list it on Mercari. I’m trying to avoid Mercari’s high fees. Im not in any rush to let this rare beauty go.

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but this scent is a straight up rip off of Chanel Coromandel. It is EXACTLY like Coromandel. I have both and tested one on each hand and I could not tell the difference. That said, it is such a beautiful vanilla fragrance. Just breathtaking. I can’t get enough of it. I shall keep them both. Only difference is Coromandel lasts longer on my skin. Both are just incredibly beautiful. Definitely blind buy worthy Edit 10/18/20 I don’t think it’s anything like Coromandel anymore. It’s a beautiful sweet Iris scent on its own. I really like it, it’s not your typical powdery Iris, it’s smooth and beautiful. I love the addition of carrot seed. It give it that lil I bit of sweetness it needs, sniff sniff (Im sniffing my hand where I sprayed it 3X) ahhhh how lovely this scent is. Yes definitely full bottle worthy. I will be adding this beauty to my collection ASAICAI (as soon as I can afford it) :)

I am just now trying this fragance and.. what could i say??.... I LOVE It!! Vanilla and iris are my favourite notes... Problem?? Tht i have one perfum very very very similar: givenchy gentleman edp! Both fragances have quite the same smell... GG is a bit darker and more intense while VdI is fresher and brighter. Maybe i can feel a better quality un the ingredients of VdI but the perfirmance is quite better in the givenchy one. Both perfums share most of the notes and i have applied GG in the other hand and are really really clóse. If i wouldnt have gentleman probably i would buy that one but... As i have the other one, which costs the third part and performs better, i think i wont add the one by ormond to my collection. This one is maybe more suitable for woman while the givenchy one is perhaps better for men, although i find both totally unisex. starting off i get a lot of orris with carrot seed, and spices, primarily pink pepper. it's an iris that's powdery but also a bit earthy and dewy at the same time. usually it seems to be either/or, but not this one. after a bit longer i get some vanilla which sweetens things up a bit. there is a whisper of other florals in the background but it's very faint. this is primarily iris, vanilla and carrot seed with a hint of vetiver. it's just gorgeous and it's soft and close to the skin. also, this one smells very different depending on the weather. i had worn it in warmer weather and the vanilla became way too cloying. this is best for a cooler spring day i think.

What an incredibly high-quality iris!!! I am floored by this unique fragrance. And trust me I know a good iris, it’s my favorite note and I own many excellent iris perfumes. The vanilla in it is stunning, however it is less sweet than I had imagined (it was a blind buy), I found myself craving a bit more sweetness so I layered it with Shalimar Millesime and so help me god if I didn’t find the best combo on earth 🤯🤤 I was in actual heaven... walking around in a heavenly halo/cocoon. A real pity that Vanille d’Iris has been discontinued. I bought my bottle from the last batch and I shall enjoy it with abandon while it lasts.

A charming iris and vanilla scent, with soft projection and excellent stamina—going on 4 hours and I can still pick it up. And so easy to wear. I can pick out the spices and carrot seed notes only when my nose is pressed against my skin. The long lasting base turns more musky as expected. Vanille d'Iris is one of my favorites from Ormonde Jayne. This feels like it’s in the Japanese minimalist category of perfume: Vanille d'Iris will not announce your arrival, but you know you are wearing a beautiful perfume and that’s all that matters. If I wasn’t on a budget I’d buy this in a heartbeat. Looking for a used bottle.

I've been obsessed with iris dominant scents lately & after recently sampling Vanille d' Iris, splurged on a bottle. I absolutely love the fact that Ormonde Jayne offers a 30ml bottle of this beauty! Opening notes of bergamot & spicy pink pepper..I'm getting carrot seed & lovely orris butter. This, to me, has the vintage makeup vibe iris or orris sometimes has & it is enhanced by carrot. Vanilla lends it's supple sweetness... This is not a silage monster & it's not about longevity...it's more of an atmospheric skin scent if that makes any sense. I love this & I'm so happy to have it!!!

Beautiful gourmand with floral notes. The vanilla is rich and creamy. An all enveloping blanket of quality smelling ingredients. This perfume smells expensive. I just wish as others have said for it to last longer on me. As suggested below I’ll need to check out the extract, because this is truly a gorgeous scent.

As the name suggests this perfume is all about vanilla and orris root. This is in the wearable art category for me in that wearing this perfume is an intellectual exercise as well as a sensory one. One of my favorites from this house.

It is a misfortune to fall in love with this scent after it has been discontinued. It is such a pretty iris scent, slightly leathery, slightly lipstick, enshrouded in a cloud of not-too-sweet vanilla. Gorgeous.

Got my sample today. 2 generous sprays on the wrists, 2 on the neck, let's go! It is what it says it is - vanilla and iris. The opening is identical to that of Chanel 28 La Pausa, very nice, warm, ambery and musky but it lasts less than 5 min, then vanilla is gone and it becomes iris+musk+amber, 20 min later just musk+amber, 1 h later just musk, the skin sent that's left after 1h 30 min can only be picked by a bloodhound. Will not buy, 28 La Pausa is better value for money. Correction: Tried it on my pillow this time. Staying power is tremendous, 2 days on still there and pretty much the same without any development! Conclusion: does not work on my skin, should be applied on fabric. Might buy a FB after all!

Again, I get different notes. I get lavender and a bit of civet from this. And a little violet-y library smell. With occasional whiffs powdery iris. Woody background. No vanilla for me. Very unisex. Gets more masculine. Now it's smells kinda like bugspray?? I'm washing this off at this point... Not really my thing. Maybe it evolves more beyond this, idk

One of my favourite niche perfume boutiques was having a clearance sale on Ormonde Jayne fragrances and a hugely discounted bottle of Vanille d'Iris caught my eye. A blend of vanilla and iris sounded too good to pass up, so I liberally sprayed my wrist in anticipation. Vanille d'Iris is beautiful if sweet, buttery iris fragrances are your thing. This fragrance is a little too sweet for my tastes, hence the reason why its darker, more peppery iris sister, Ormonde Jayne's Orris Noir was the bottle I eventually brought home with me. The opening was surprisingly citrus-oriented with a touch of pink pepper. The zestiness is short-lived, however, with a creamy, sugary blend of orris butter, vanilla and osmanthus emerging after the top notes fade. The sweet, vanillic aspect of this fragrance persists for hours, before settling into a dusty vetiver and cedarwood drydown. I was hoping for more of a powdery iris, yet the perfumer Geza Schoen intended for this iris to be creamy and opulent. With the right skin chemistry, Vanille d'Iris could be divine. It has no shortage of fans. Vanille d'Iris is a softer fragrance with light to moderate projection. The longevity is however much stronger, lasting a decent seven hours on my skin. Having satiated my curiosity, I can move on to exploring more from the house of Ormonde Jayne. Despite not falling in love with Vanille d'Iris, I may never have found Orris Noir which was recommended to me by a salesperson following my testing of the former. I now own an orris/iris fragrance that I absolutely adore.

to me this is modern Shalimar, it is absolutely mesmerising in its beauty that is fleeting on skin, but on clothes stays forever. Iris that is not masculine nor cold, but warm sophisticated and novelty around the classic story. it is available only in London. i love this house, such a quality producer.....nobody can make this sensual iris. Imagine old Shalimar without all those masculinity coming from oppoponax, woody notes that make it somewhat hard to wear today, the same woody non cloying vannila , lots of iris and zesty bergamot, that is OJ shalimar P.S. or maybe female version of Chanell La pausa

Vanille d'Iris has NOT been re-launched as Vanille des Afriques Intensivo. Here is what I wrote on that fragrance's page: "Hey, y'all, the brand has confirmed to me that Ormonde Jayne Vanille des Afriques Intensivo is NOT a reformulation or re-launch of Ormonde Jayne Vanille d'Iris. I was told 'the perfume formula is quite different to make it IFRA compliant. It features a much stronger vanilla presence with the addition of Bourbon Vanilla Absolute and Madagascan Vanilla absolute, less orris butter, and smelt side to side, they are very different fragrances.'" There you have it! :D

This one is one hot juice, the Iris in here is presented by Iris flower seeds and not the actual iris, and the vanilla is quite quality with slight apple crisp and vanilla ice cream. It's NOT cloying at all other than a tender calmness spread upon the iris seeds. I didn't get that feeling when i first spray it but i got the feeling of naughtiness instead, and when it calmed down it went quite captivating. Nice creation.

I’ve had a sample for years that I keep returning to. I find the carrot seeds to be quite dominant and the vanilla quite subtle. This gives it white a natural earthiness to it. The vanilla is not sweet or artificial and together with the iris this creates quite a classy, unique and gentle aroma. Longevity is good. High quality perfume for sure.

A captivating creation. One fragrance that can't be fully appreciated close to skin, but one that can be detected in the atmosphere that flows around your body like a forbidden romance. It tantalises, it teases. Beautifully seducing your olfactory senses into sensual surrender.

A little too powdery for me...and feminine. Maybe it's the iris, which stands out more than vanilla. Received as a free sample. I won't be making a purchase. Longevity and sillage below average.

I think this has been reformulated. The samples I had a few years ago were rich, long-lasting, and had more vanilla. I just bought a full bottle, and now the fragrance is thin and fleeting.

I generally prefer female scents to unisex, so I am trying to be open-minded. On my wrist, I like the warm vanilla and amber/musk that isn't too heavy or cloying. Do I like the wood enough?

Smells like sticking my nose directly into the container of loose powder I use to set my makeup. Soft and sweet with a hint of warmth. Like a hug from an older lady who loves you.
