Xian

A beautiful soft and fresh spicy fragrance. Like most OJ:s is very well blended and hard to pick up individual notes. The rhubarb is gently humming along as a discreet softly tart and fruity note, but the most prominent notes are the airy spices, (of which I definitely pick up cumin) and musk. The musk is not a white one, nor a beastly animalic, but smells of ambrette or my puppy's softly furry neck. A very classy musky scent, a bit chanelesque, beige-tinted. It performs lovely in hot weather. It reminds me of Amouage Epic Woman, this could be her younger, more innocent summery sister. In summary: Spicy but airy, classy but original, elegant but human.

I must have first smelled this a year ago and, via a few free samples, I keep coming back to this and loving it at very particular moments. The opening is like fireworks, all bright and sparkly. At first I thought it was floral but I figure it must be the rhubarb. It's sweet like flowers, not sugary like syrup. It smells quite feminine in a way that I (a male) really enjoy wearing. For me these top notes stay for a long time and project quite far but it's a polite smell that's gotten a couple of compliments. Once it dries down I can smell the cedar and sandalwood but it's very gentle and clean. Very comforting by the evening.

Bright, clean rhubarb supported by pepper (smells pink) and musky woods. Lightly sweet, but not in a candy/dessert-y/gourmand-y way. The mix of notes gives a distinct impression of roses, but there are none here? I think it'd be fantastic layered with a rose scent to take it in a myriad of directions. An extremely unique and sexy scent that leaves a beautiful trail. 9/10 Also, in the United States, I believe Osme perfumery has an exclusive on this and they have amazing service, including an online shop. I sampled Xi'an just after I sampled ELDO'S Ghost in the Shell, which is inspired by the idea of what an android skin would smell like. And I realized that, no, for me thís perfume by Osmonde Jayne is what I imagine the future to smell like. Composed, clean, rational - but far from boring. Warm and fresh at the same time. Minimalist yet hypnotic. Unisex. Not like other fragrances. Technical but not synthetic. Human but not animal.

This is the first time I’m picking up a distinct smell of rhubarb in a fragrance. Wow! It’s so nice. The drydown was equally mesmerizing with sandalwood, cedar and musk notes which later became a bit soapy. Longevity is good and projection is enormous.

I have been to Xi'an, so I was very curious about this scent. I thought this would be oriental and powdery like Chinatown by Bund No.9, but clearly, this is not. Very spicy to me, and this does remind me of something local in mid-China.

This is very well blended and it's difficult for me to pick out the different notes. I don't know how to describe this...bright peppery wood? All I know is that the sillage is beautiful. One of my faves from this collection.

This is definitely not an ordinary woody incensy scent. The spicy soapiness adds sparks in the more resinous woody incense scent, making it dance and present a very mystical and serene atmosphere. I tried it in a warm 85F summer night. The scent is subdued but trail and projection is very noticeable. This will be good for people who don't want loud fragrance but still want to wear something light and gives great projection.

Xian by Ormonde Jayne is a really sweet ‘fresh spicy woody’ fragrance. The rhubarb note is the only note you can easily identify in my view, with the other notes providing the foundation of the fragrance and giving us the spicy and woody feel even though there is a reasonable sweetness. Quite intriguing and definitely not something to blind purchase. But I wouldn’t discount it. It’s really unique and entirely pleasing.

Very strange fragrance. My first thought was that it is too sweet. But then the nutmeg, it blended so nicely! The sweetness from the rubharb probably. Pepper is barely sented. And something like smoky mossy woods. Very intriguing! I'm thinking of byuing a FB Edit 2023, I have bought a FB and I love it!

The combination of rhubarb, sandalwood and nutmeg with a little hint of musk makes a beautiful clean and spicy fragrance. This is fresh yet it has a dry sweetness from the nutmeg. The rhubarb is the star of this scent. I don’t own anything like this in my collection.

The soft wollen elbow patches of a sweater. Slight spice and airy woods are quite unique and refreshingly interesting. Some can't or won't appreciate it for that though. Gary Zimmer from Irresistible wears this.

I'm surprised incense is not listed.. I smell clean soapy incense with a fresh spicy opening. There's something elegant and feminine about it.

整體來氣味偏線性,淡淡的檀木是氣味的主軸,背景是削鉛筆味的雪松和暖暖的麝香,開出的時候微酸甜果香(大黃?)會有一些,中後調白花的香氣會有一些,整體來說是很平衡、溫順的氣味,有一種用的人必定溫柔的感覺 上身會有一種用檀香香皂的感覺,因為氣味的擴散算好,如果不太喜歡皂感的可能會不愛

On paper, this smelled weird to me. I put it on my skin after smelling it a second time and almost instantly regretted it. In one of the comments someone described it as "android skin" which is an image I completely agree with, which in my case isn't a good thing. It reminds me of being prepped for surgery, like the mask goes on your face, you're about to pass out and have a traumatic experience. I could imagine people in the movie Crimes of the Future wearing this when they go to watch the erotic surgeries. I appreciate the unique POV but wow, this is very much not for me!

Wow. Only rarely am I so negatively surprised by fragrances. Sharp, musky, intrusive, offensive. I found it so bad, I had to wash it off, but it is so potent, now I am suffocating in its aura. Blatant similarity to another much disliked of mine, Portrait of a Lady. Unacceptable in my books. One of the worst fragrances I have tried. 2/10

Sorry but I really do not like this... it just smells like pepper. I guess if you want to smell like pepper then this could be good for you, but I don't know why anyone would want to lol. I had to scrub this off

A wet, musky, armpit-y sandalwood. Starts out spicy and animalic, and the phase into a thick white musk with a rice nuance. I hate molecule 4 here.

As with most ormonde jayne perfumes, xian is so beautifully blended and round...something I've not experienced with rhubarb perfumes, which usually smell sour and sharp to me regardless of the surrounding notes (encelade, lazulio, which I also love!). You need to give it a minute to breathe though, the cedar, pepper and rhubarb butt up against each other at first but settle so beautifully, which feels like a techical feat. I think Xian has a soapy quality which i find very comforting. I wore this on a warm and drizzly day and as I warmed up it created the most gorgeous soft and clean bubble around me. Office safe but not boring.

From the moment this landed on my skin, I did not like it! The musk almost gagged me and made me cough a little. Mixed with the pepper and rhubarb, it doesn't work. It's an interesting combination, but it just doesn't work as a perfume. The sandalwood balances this out and calms it a little. This smells like some kind of body emission or something biological. A bit poopy and biley. Not for me.
