Oscar Velvet Noir

I tested Velvet Noir for the second time on skin today, and I really like it. It's quite intense, with the white floral being to my nose more of a background for the woods, rose, violet and amber. In some ways, especially the drydown, it reminds me of Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir in a slightly simplified form, perhaps more suitable for daytime wear. The top notes I felt disappeared fairly quickly although the ginger hung around for a while to play with the rose and violets. Very nice scent that is not sugar sweet and has some personality to it.

rose oud that is strong and quite a bit fruity so less gourmand and patchouli laden; mainly rose, orange, orange blossom, western oud, osmanthus, amber and musk; so fruity that it seems like maybe there is black currant here, and very floral as well with the orange blossom and osmanthus being major players; love this but this powerful fragrance fades down very very fast to a skin scent, just a whisp of a musky rose oud on the skin

It smells incredibly sexy on my wife!

Velvet noir I have previously reviewed this. Today: incensy, light woody, I think the accords look right, but I can’t detect each accord individually belond the top incense and gentle woody, the other notes are supporting. This is a winter test, this is very different than when I initially tried it. Smells very distinctive, it’s not overpowering. I think you could add to this fragrance and layer it carefully. A man could wear this too. I wouldn’t say this is masculine per se it’s not deodoranty

This is nice, it smells a little older in the beginning, I might be able to detect liquorice, I've got diesel spirit on the other hand and it doesn't have that same musky thickness.. This seems like a floriental perhaps I don't know what oud smells like, I've inly got it in the back of my hand, I would try it again I a pulse point though. It's coming into spring here. I'm at the middle note phase of it

This perfume is amazing it reminds me of old perfume style. In summary the ginger in here smells like Dr. Pepper and I love it. I love Oud so I am surprised it has Oud in it love it.

I am so tired of oud!! Hate how niche scents become mainstream trends. This fragrance minus the oud note is delicious and I would have purchased it if it were not for... ;)

This has all but vanished. I didn't like the opening that much, the middle was alright, if I had this as a gift I'd use it up, but I have to love it to buy it

This shocked the living daylight out of me. I wasn't expecting such a masculine scent. I can't pick out any individual notes...the over all effect is quite 'medicinal' on me. Very strong and not at all feminine. Are there any guys out there that wear this? I was thinking it would be lovely on my BF :)

I just received Oscar de la Renta Velvet Noir and this perfume smells like coacroach killer spray 🤢🤢🤢🤮 I'm very disappointed

I hate the masculine opening. Next it smells rubbery. I hacen't gotten to the drydown. Anybody want to swap?

I had heard lots of great things about Oscar Velvet Noir. Many reviewers touted it as one of the best inexpensive rose-oud combos. I was beyond excited when I saw this fragrance at my local discount perfume store. Oscar Velvet Noir is a pleasant rose-oud fragrance, however, it doesn't project as strongly as I thought it would. The opening is very loud, almost a tad too overwhelming. The oud note is harsh and medicinal and the rose accord somewhat screechy. Thankfully, these two notes settle once the fragrance dries on the skin and although the blend is far more palatable, the projection gradually becomes weaker with every hour of wear. The drydown is a subtle blend of violet and clean white musk. The rose and oud notes are not present whatsoever in the base. In some ways, the top notes and the base notes smell like a separate fragrance. The composition is not linked as well as I would have liked. Every rose and oud fragrance I have had the pleasure of sampling in the past have been heavy-hitters. It's somewhat foreign to sample a weak interpretation like Oscar Velvet Noir. As someone that enjoys dense, Arabic-type oud fragrances, Oscar Velvet Noir doesn't tick all of the boxes for me. In keeping an open mind, I am aware that Oscar Velvet Noir is an inexpensive designer scent, so I shouldn't compare this fragrance to better niche alternatives. It is wearable, but with that being said, you should try this fragrance before you buy to avoid potential disappointment.

I looked forward to trying this as it was a blind buy some years back. I found it disappointing as it's very masculine to my nose. The woody oud note is quite flat, it's as though the florals were an afterthought. Perhaps I can layer it with something floral to make it more feminine. I guess it's O de la R's attempt to jump on the Oud bandwagon. I'm beginning to think that oud is best left to the Arabian perfumers as they seem to be able to strike a balance of heady florals and spices with deep fragrant oud in feminine fragrances. The oud in this one is definitely not top notch. Sigh...

Not a typical Oscar de la Renta fragrance. I usually call his fragrances “vintage powders” - with all the pretty and not so pretty features to that image. Oscar Velvet Noir is a breakthrough to the niche scents. Its unisexiness is also on the niche (“interesting”) level. It’s well crafted, it’s smooth while being not that quiet, especially at the beginning, it’s woodsy, spicy and sweet floral... On the vanity it’ll look like a souvenir from the splendid travels: it’s a classy bottle with a quality perfume composition inside. It has style. I’m charmed.

I tested Velvet Noir on a paper strip today at Chemist Warehouse. At first blast, I smell a rich rose-oud combination that smells mildly pleasant yet perfumey. After settling down for ten minutes, the scent turns more harsh and generically perfumey. It's a departure from the rest of the Oscar de la Renta perfumes, with this one being more intense and catered for the night time. Velvet Noir must be their attempt at the rose-oud trend. I don't think I will invest in a full bottle.

I tried this tester on yesterday and went back out and purchased today. It is a very sophisticated classy perfume for lovers of incense type perfumes. It has amazing longevity. I feel this is going to be my signature scent for a long time. Finally found a beautiful amazing scent.

I got a sample of this to try. First spray was strong, mature-type scent as first sniff. Dry down.. still smells like mature woman to me. Not old lady, but more like something a 50s woman would wear, like to church. It’s a nice scent, it’s just not for me.

Blind bought this one for my wife, based on the notes & her likes. She didn't like it, so I kept it. Every time I wear the Oscar Velvet Noir, she complements me on how good it smells.....and then we laugh. Seems to work in a more masculine context.

First spray is very loud and strong, then disappears. Very masculine and woody, do not detect rose at all.
