Santo Domingo

The opening begins with a citrusy mandarin orange, smooth out with the coriander. The tobacco and coffee pronounce but do not take over the scent which is very odd to me. They are more light , it's like a scent blown in your direction, smokey I guess. The scent is very distinct because I find its a very natural light and fresh scent of being in the Caribbean but at the same time not that light with the tobacco. I don't really smell the patchouli, maybe it just hasn't transformed yet. I do smell a light floral. I do find this scent to be more feminine. Just tested it at saks a couple hours ago and keep sniffing myself. Will definitely go back to buy it. *Update - purchased it. absolutely love it. a light fresh spicy. It really does remind me when I'm there, and a carribean breeze hits you. I have gotten complimented on it a couple times.

Santo Domingo is my favorite from the range. (There are about six different ones I believe). I would definitely categorize this one is unisex. It is does not follow the popularly sweet fruity floral and au courant trends of today. So this is not a girlie scent but rather a to the contrary, a strong charactered perfume that deviates from today's standard. It's dry down is soft & spicy. I also received several compliments on it. Over all I must say that I just feel so good when I wear it. It is elegant & powerful with a certain degree of citrus freshness to it which lightens up the tobacco and coffee notes, making it gorgeous for women to where while highly appropriate for men to where as well. While generally I am not a fan of Oscar de La Renta fragrances, I am truly sold on this one. Very nice indeed.

I received a sample of this along with the rest of the essential luxuries' perfumes. I fell in love immediately with Santo Domingo. I immediately purchased a full bottle from the Oscar de la Renta website. At the time, it was only available there and Nieman Marcus (if I remember correctly). When I started to get low, I was happy to see it available from multiple stores online. I don't remember where I purchased the second bottle from. I do remember thinking that this was probably too obscure a scent to be faked. I think I was wrong. The top of the bottle was different from my old one, and the tobacco note was almost entirely missing. Be careful where you buy this from. Unless they changed the formula and cheapened the packaging, there are fakes out there.

I love this juice. It immediately opens with citrus notes and a whole lot of coriander which stays all the way through to the end. I normally steer clear of any fragrance with coriander but this is fine. The tobacco and the patch are nearly as strong as the coriander in this masterpiece. Yes, its unisex like Chanels Coromandel but its not a strong overpowering fragrance but very smooth and easy to wear. The sillage is low but the longevity is many hours. Its very genteel for a spice based fragrance. The presentation is fabulous and even better than the likes Chanel or Dior. Well done ODLR wherever you are in heaven.

I wear this as an evening scent. It is a love-hate relationship for me. Like Infusion d'Iris, on some days I think it's so unique, so brilliant, so unconventional.... then I grow sick of some notes. In this case the coriander and patchouli combination. It was one of the best addition to my wardrobe but I had to let it go... It will definitely leave no-one indifferent. EDIT: this was my edgy-evening scent to replace Eau du Soir!

Santo Domingo is the handsome sister, at ease around men and confident.The tobacco and coffee can get old quick on the skin but as it tones down it fellows out.This one is on its way.

I would not recommend wafting Santo Domingo too strongly around children or pets, but otherwise this perfume is lovely and interesting for anyone. To me, the scent is not male or female or anything in between, it just is. It's warm and spicy and also fresh, and can easily evoke happy thoughts of places on a subtropical Atlantic coast. The strong tobacco note is vibrant like the living plant itself (I am thinking of the leafy parts not the flowers), and not at all musty or like something to be (or that has already been) smoked, and it doesn't obscure the fairly soft patchouli and suggestion of orange flower. This is a joyful, different scent to warm you up and wake you up especially on a grey winter's day.

Over time, I ended up with the full set of ODLR Essential Luxury fragrances. This one is far afield of the rest of the set. Santo Domingo starts with a purely masculine note - and I say this as someone who wears men's fragrances frequently. This one starts out as All-Manly-Man. It dries down to spice and pepper. A whole lotta pepper. It takes awhile for the patch to show up, but it's a welcome addition when it finally arrives. That's when this transforms from purely masculine to more unisex. I layer this one more frequently than I wear it be itself. If something is too sweet or too fruity, Santo Domingo can add a punch.

It reminds me of palm trees, it is like a tropical smell without all the fruit. It has that spicyness underneath but it is not overwhelming. I like it!

I can't see Santo Domingo as a Unisex. To me this is only for men. Maleish Patchouli, Maleish spices, Maleish Coriander. A nice scent for Men. Jag tycker inte att Santo Domingo är unisex. För mig är den endast för män. Manlig Patchouli, Manliga kryddor, Manlig Koriander. En trevlig doft för Män.

I sprayed this on my wrist, on a single point, and the muskiness and spiciness is very intense. It is better sprayed on air then walk through it, and/or applied lightly on pulse points, just like how you apply Chanel No. 5. I like how it gives a comforting aura just like after you take a warm shower and apply a creamy, lactonic, spicy-floral lotion, reminiscent of Nivea Creme. It is a comforting scent of that lotion that lasts throughout the day. The sheerness and elegance of this scent is undeniable. I can imagine this to a woman with glowing smooth skin, red-lips, wearing white-laced dress, 24k jewels, and carrying a soft leather handbag. It seems to bring out the femininity of a woman.

A lovely earthy , smokey unisex and warm take on tobacco. A lot of pepper to. It is very well blended, niche quality. Can't describe it better than a perfect mixture of two iconic perfumes. Obsession and Black orchid. I would pick this before Black orchid - if I had a choice. Powerful and lovely and a statementmaker. Update 15 minutes later the pepper kicks in - be prepared. I love pepper but this is almost to the max for what I camn handle . It's as strong as the opening of Ma Dame edp , wether that one has pepper or not. Sad because the beginning was so promising. Wish it would have been the other way around.....

This is quite spicy, definitely something a man would wear, or women who like those types of smokey scents, the mandarin orange softens the smokey notes so the scent remains overall fresher, lighter, it is kind of a morphing between dry tobacco notes and a certain orangey edge, strange, I can't see myself wearing it though , lacks prettiness, it isn't bad at all, in its category. I imagine a cowboy type of guy wearing it!? Still overpriced though.

Can't imagine this perfume on a lady. First spray was quite sharp. The dry down is nice and well blended though, again on a MAN! Another thing, this is one of the perfumes that must be tested on skin. I liked it on paper and it sounded unisex. The second time, I tested it on my arm, and oh my God , definitely not for me!

This was oudy to my nose on the opening and on the dry down. I do see however that it is unisex due to the smokiness. It's powdery, warm, spicy, and sweet that's what I'm catching. Now on the dry down is a bit more fresh and woody. I'm liking this. Try it.
