Something Gold

A very fragrant jasmine and butter orris fragrance. The citrus notes provide a lot of balance, so it maintains its freshness and doesn't delve into super-sweet territory. Really affordable too, I definitely look forward to wearing this in the spring/summer.

Potent, voluptuous concoction, really enormous sillage and projection. This will be a massive hit with vanilla lovers, as it is heady on buttery/vanilly note (from the orris). Light citrus, strong backing floral notes. Sugary and enveloping, this scent will rack many fans! It is lovely, but not for me. But then, I am not a sugary person, don't crave sugar, don't even put it in my drinks and never dream of cakes. Despite being on trend, it stand outside of its mainstream (more berry fuelled than this) - not sure if this makes sense, but if you put your hands on it to test you'll understand. I give it 8 out of 10 even not being up my ally.

Oh! Why has this gone under the radar?? It's great! It does have bit of a citrus-candy opening and it has a fair amount of sweetness, but it's far from the syrupy, sugary mess I feared after reading the reviews. It starts out quite refreshing! Not cloying in any way to me, and I am someone who struggles with being nauseated by A LOT of scents. Jasmine can ruin a perfume for me, but it's not overwhelming here. Something Gold is a super yummy fruity-floral vanilla that would be a huge hit if it was marketed differently or by another brand. Such a shame it sells for nothing and probably will be discontinued, if it isn't already. Update: it's interesting how the reviews go in all directions on this, but I am so glad I took the chance to blind buy. It has become an easy to reach for scent for me. It never feels wrong, it's great even in the summer heat. In the drydown it does turn into a quite dull and synthetic candy-vanilla, but I don't mind my perfumes smelling a bit reminescent of my childhood eraser collection. I don't find the patchouli very prominent btw. I highly recommend those with a sweet tooth to try it before it's gone!

I was really hoping the orris in this would shine, but for me the sweet, fruity notes are too strong to discern anything else. As others have mentioned, the sweet vanilla and citrus make for an almost pineapple or tropical fruit accord, which is very strong. It reminds me of the pineapple note in Creed Aventus, which I love - but here it has no woody note to round it out - the strength of it sits like cordial. I vacillate between enjoying this and finding it nauseating. There is just something about this combination that doesn't gel with me. Definitely try before committing, particularly now this is discontinued and can cost a bomb via ebay.

Soft, pretty, inoffensive. Great for the office or a girl's brunch, etc. Longevity and sillage are mild, and nothing about this is groundbreaking. Is it pretty? Yes. Does it wow me? No, not at all. This would make a great gift for someone that doesn't have many fragrances in their collection but likes classy sweet white florals. The bottle is gorgeous. All in all, a very classy cheapie (when I bought it) but it seems to be discontinued and getting harder to find. Not special enough for it to stand out in my huge collection though.
