Sartoriale

Pal Zileri is a Venetian couturier who makes awesome suits so I had very high expectations for Sartoriale. Blind bought this because I’m always in the market for a nice sandalwood and I'd heard it was similar to Rush for Men. It’s a linear composition - warm, rich, sensual, and luxurious, dominated by a sweet Indian sandalwood note. Sartoriale is beautiful and if only performance were better it would be legendary. Might even be wearable. Longevity is terrible - within half an hour it’s barely a skin scent, so faint as to be virtually undetectable. Maybe it’s just a temporary organic chemistry issue that will improve over time - some fragrances need a good shake, limited exposure to air and a period of time to steep after they’ve been in storage. After applying, it smells utterly incredible - rich, sweet, resinous sandalwood-vetiver that is vaguely reminiscent of Gucci Rush for Men only with even worse longevity. By the time you walk out the door it’s like wearing nothing at all. At this stage it’s not olfactory fatigue or an Iso E Super aura effect, it’s undetectable because it’s just not there. Not sure what kind of sandalwood ACs are in this but they have worse longevity and tenacity than any I dabbled with in my embarrassingly amateur DIY perfumery attempts to concoct a home-made sandalwood ambrosia (about ten years ago I went through a clueless noob phase of imagining I could create a masterpiece. And failing. Bit like the eternal optimists certain they can recreate a discontinued classic with essential oils). Sartoriale is a voluptuous but linear composition built around a sweet, creamy interpretation of sandalwood, hamstrung by atrocious performance. Sometimes using an improvised Fond de Parfum of something like fractionated coconut oil before applying can improve longevity. Spraying it on fabric can extend it a bit (btw never spray perfume on silk, wool, leather, suits, or anything vintage - best to use cheesecloth, muslin or a handkerchief unless you only wear crappy clothes). I’ll revisit in after letting it steep for a while in the hope the performance issues will resolve. —————— Update: Maybe there was some kind of problem during formulation and bottling as it’s hard to believe this could’ve gone into production with such dreadful performance issues. Just noticed that 50ml and 100ml bottles have different coloured content: blue-grey instead of yellow - is this by design or is it a visible symptom of a formulation/production issue? I’ll revisit in a week or so. The one I have is the 50ml with the yellowish juice - I’d be curious to see if the 100ml with the darker juice has the same performance issues. As one of the reviewers below suggested, if you like Sartoriale, Azzaro Visit is an excellent alternative, with a closer resemblance to Gucci Rush for Men and infinitely better performance.

This is a fragrance that is easily found on discount channels now. But unlike so many that "smell like their price", Sartoriale is an exception. It's not in the same class of sandalwood fragrances like Santal Noble or Gucci Rush, but for the price it's excellent. EDIT: I have to say that Sartoriale seems to straddle this peculiar zone between Diptyque Tam Dao and Gucci Pour Homme 2003. Really curious... longevity is decent. It's best to hit some body hair to help it continue. I've found that upon spraying it on my arm, I'll still smell it the next day before I shower - that's impressive! I was pleasantly surprised to find how similar this is to Gucci Rush, IN THE START. Sartoriale is very similar upon first spray, but then into the drydown it differs. It becomes drier, missing that warm sweetness you find with Rush.. But Sartoriale is a very good close second. Easy to wear. Easy to enjoy. You can pick it up fairly cheap these days through various discount channels. Worth a blind buy, which is what I did. Fragrance: 8.5, Longevity: 8.5, Value: 9.5

Sartoriale by Pal Zileri Review A sandalwood masterpiece. If you like the note of sandalwood whatsoever, this will be right up your alley. This smell is easily one of my favorites in my collection. It's absolute perfection. Unfortunately, the performance on this is incredibly lacking. Both the sillage and longevity are among the weakest in all the fragrances I've tried. Keep in mind that, in general, I'm an incredibly light sprayer. It's rare that I go more than 2-3 sprays on a fragrance. This one just doesn't cut it with twice that amount. If you like this fragrance, I highly suggest you check out Azzaro Visit. They smell similar to me. Visit is a darker and spicier fragrance, but it's a wonderful alternative that performs much better! Fantastic underpriced little gem. If you like creamy sandalwood, you will for sure enjoy this one. This is practically Tam Dao without the cypress and cedar. And ultimately this is pretty much what Tam Dao dries down into. Sure the Tam Dao is tad bit more refined, but the price does not justify its performance. Now lets talk about the performance of Sartoriale, in short: its a gentle skin scent with soft sillage. Now if you consider that poor performance then I suggest you steer clear. For the price this is a no brainer for any fan of sandalwood.

Pal Zileri Sartoriale is a high quality perfume that almost matches Gucci Rush The problem: the projection is very low (you need to be hugged or really close to someone in order to be noticed) and longevity is 1-4 hours top. The high quality and resemblance to Rush made me even more frustrated by its performances. If you are looking for your next bottle of Rush: Pal Zileri Sartoriale would be a low cost substitute It is a shame that such a work of art has such bad performances. With better performances it might have been one of the best ever

Out of all the alternatives to Gucci Rush for Men I have tried, Pal Zileri Sartoriale is the closest I have found. Sadly, Sartoriale is one of those fragrances that has had a completely wrong note breakdown listed here on Fragrantica for years, which then spread everywhere else online. The correct note breakdown is listed below. If one of the mods could fix this error finally, it would be nice! Thanks to this site, I did indeed find a great scent that was very, very similar to the amazing Gucci Envy For Men. The above Pal Zileri Sartoriale really embodies everything Gucci Envy was, but sadly, it's not long lasting and doesn't carry far. But if you want to smell that scent once again, then this is a perfect one to go for. I have literally looked for years for something close. I just wish it lasted longer on the skin and had strong sillage. As a blind buy I was unsure, but so glad I did, even if not long-lasting.

This fragrance is slightly short of being a masterpiece because it is a skin scent. Otherwise it is a gem. Very nice woody floral composition. Starts out woody and slightly sour which reminds me of bvlgari man. I think it is the violet leaves, then transitions into a woody rose scent at the drydown. I use this when i'm chillin at home because there is no need to be noticed and it's gentle scent is very comforting. Very nice comfort scent. I'm getting a backup bottle.

The notes above look nothing like what I smell in this fragrance.. I have seen conflicting pyramids for this scent on the internet but I assure you the notes above are not correct.. It is Gucci Rush for 10 seconds but without the cypress, with less incense and more floral notes. The performance will make you want to cry. 10 minutes later it's gone. Want a real alternative to Rush? Go buy a full bottle of Wonderwood; not identical but the vibe it's there. Tam Dao is a second best.

i cannot describe how intimate is this perfume , really a great friend for my skin , i like its richness i like the warmth of sandal wood inside , just wow , even if it s radiation is soft but i enjoy it and i feel like hugging myself :) i really miss having this king of perfumes in the new market

Lovely. Sweet, slightly powdery and quite spicy and very pleasant. It's got a great woody/floral drydown too. Very masculine with a lot of character. The negative is....it's not too potent but I'm glad I bought this - if it was a bit more potent, it would be a masterpiece! Love it to bits !!

Sartoriale is a good, casual fragrance from the Pal Zileri house. A pleasing woody with a floral background. It lacks a bit of punch in terms of longevity and sillage. Another splendid fragrance from this house, that continue to impress.

Beautiful!! I loved Gucci Rush for men... so i had to buy this for my partner. IT IS AMAZING! so close to gucci rush, but way better in my opinion. love,love,love. sexy masculine, timeless....

@alaaddin777 Not for me, last on my skin about 8-10h, but stays close to the skin. The drydown it's wonderful. Indeed is very similar to Guccy Envy.

i like sartoriale -good sandalwood fragrance but it has short projection. I dont know Rush but this is good woody fragrance for everyone.

If this had only average longevity and sillage, it would be one of the greatest scents of all time. It is beautiful and fleeting.

Beautiful musky sandalwood fragrance. The top will have a dry Tam Dao-like sandalwood note in the top, with a hint of green apple as supporting note. In the base, the subtle support of spices, rose and moss will give a vibe a-la Mysore sandalwood, with a pinch of vetiver and vanilla in the background. No, don't expect a clone of Diptyque Tam Dao or LV Sandalo, but the sandalwood accord is really well done for a cheapie like this one. I confirm the need to overspray this one, as the projection is average/low in the first hour, and then settles as a skin scent for the following 3-4 hours. The smell is really great, and would recommend that one, but only if you can have it for a great price (max $40/100ml) thus allowing to overspray. That said, Tam Dao EDT retails for $135/100ml (~$100 at discounters) and doesn't perform much better than that, so... Spring/fall days, 20+ PS: I own both Azzaro Visit and Pal Zileri Sartoriale, and they are not at all related. (Sartoriale shares some noticeable similarities with Gucci Rush, while Azzaro Visit shares some -remote- similarities with Gucci Pour Homme 2003 and Bentley for Men Absolute).

This Italian fragrance is sublime! It is made in the Veneto regoin of Italy where, La Serinesima, the serene city of the Adriatic is located. Like Venice it is mysterious, enigmatic, and enticing. It carries an air of dignity that is never far from whimsy, as regal as the Doges palace yet ready to don a carnival mask. It is pure magic with a little Italian drama thrown in for good measure. Bellisima! It pops like champagne on its opening with green apple and grapefruit which is the party that everyone wants to join. Then it changes to its serious notes off sandal wood amber musk and oak moss and Vetiver. This is the ellegant refined and very Italian center of this fragrance. In the dry down comes the romance and mystery created with the entrance of the rose, lily of the valley and the violet leaf. These Three beauties flirt from a festooned gondola as it drifts into a dark canal with a promise to return. and return you will to this incredible scent. A decent silage that never shouts, it is subtle and confident. The scent stayed on my skin around seven hours. Five gold Venitian Lions *****

I love the smell of this fragrance. It reminds me very much of Gucci Envy and D&G the one gentleman. Very soft/vanilla/woody/ tobacco like fragrance that shouts confidence and maturity. It doesn't mean that it's an old man fragrance but it's not something i would suggest a teenager wear either. I am in my mid 20's and would wear this stuff out on a summer night where a lot of people are. It is very close to the skin and doesn't project well at all. I wish it did project more and last longer, I get about 6-7 hours before it's gone but for the price($25 off of amazon) you can't go wrong. If you can get a girl close enough to smell your neck, you've won. I always like to pretend I couldn't hear what they said, so I lean in for them to say it in my ear. works everytime for compliments. Plus, you could spray it on your shirt which will last a hell of a lot longer, but you don't get everything out of the wonderful drydown. The smell is awesome, like I said. I recommend this to anyone over the age of 24. scent - 9/10 longevity - 7/10 projection - 7/10

A lot of people talk about the poor performance of this and I could say the same as well because after like 5 minutes I can barely smell it but this is one of the fragrances that’s like a second skin and actually does last a long time. It’s the creamiest sandalwood backed up with that smooth slightly sweet apple and elemi which is freaking amazing. Gucci rush managed to get all the hype because of the brand and nose behind the fragrance but this is the most subtle and classiest fragrance I’ve personally smelt. doesn’t deserve the hype just because it’s discontinued but I find this magnificent! These Italians!

Similar to Gucci Rush? Absolutely Similar to Gucci Envy? Not even in the slightest bit Those 2 were my signature scents growing up and I still have many bottles and I really hate when people leave such misleading reviews. Now some poor kid will buy Sartoriale expecting it to smell like Envy only to be disappointed. If you like Rush then buy this, if you want something similar to Envy and don't want to pay upwards of $300 the only fragrance I've tried which comes close (but still not the same) is Carven Homme (the light green liquid, not to be confused with Carven Pour Homme in the black bottle)

Kinda smells like a bath towel that hasn’t been washed in awhile, not in a bad way necessarily, but kinda musty and earthy. Reminds me of Amouage Figment Man or a less sweet/floral Giorgio Beverly Hills. Vetiver and sandalwood are dominant. The oak moss and musk follow up. I’m a little surprised that patchouli isn’t a listed note because that’s what I would of assumed before looking at the notes. The florals and fruits don’t come through at all. An immediate skin scent, it’s two sprays on my forearm couldn’t be smelled at all until I put my nose up close. Bottle is nice looking

In 10 minutes I have to touch my nose to my arm to get the slightest hint of scent and I can't even properly smell it. This is not something you can compensate by spraying more or carrying a mini atomizer. The scent is so good though, which makes the struggle worse. It's like having a very slow wifi connection, sometimes you think if it's better to have no wifi at all. I get the same feeling with this scent. Still enjoying it a lot on cosy home days, when in need of sandalwood glimpses.

Got this for a steal $18 from flipkart.com and boy was I in for a surprise! One of the most 'herbal' smelling fragrances that I have come across till date with the 'vetiver' standing out as the most prominent note among all. Its a warm, spicy fragrance that'll heat things up and hence I think will be great during cold weather. The cover looks like a pinstripe suit which kind of hints at the possible 'formal' use of this fragrance. It sits close to the skin and has average longevity.

yes it likes gucci II and rush.very similiar.very close to skin scent. i think there is dried pimento in this perfume. i like it but its smell reminds me old lady rouge.pimento+lipstick in Türkiye we use dried pimento in meals and most family dried pimentos and eggplants in sun for lunch.in europe and america,nobody thinks that perfume is gourmand,but in Türkiye,asia and middle-east, it smells foody. I have just received a bottle of this pearl. As it has been said by the 3 other reviewers here, it is superb, reminds me of Gucci fragrances a lot, especiall Envy and the now discontinued Rush. I should say, though, that the drydown is a bit more complex. Great buy. For less than 30 dollars I have my 3.4 oz bottle ready for use. Don't miss out on it.

Sartoriale is a classy scent. Definitely gets me compliments! It's warm and woody, but with a fresh citrus opening that keeps it from being too heavy. Lasts all day too.

This smells like a mild watered down version of TF Oud Wood. Very masculine and lasting. All occasions.

A rather close to skin wonderful scent. Yes, it has similarities with Gucci Rush and Gucci Envy, but still quite unique. Very,very nice.

I blind bought this AND Trend by Les Copains. This is the better of the two. They smell so similar you can wear them together. Trend goes on like mosquito repellent very 'harsh' and alcohol heavy, Sartoriale has a richer 'creamier' entrance. Trend has a faint incense note thats missing in Sartoriale that I WISH they would have amped up. Trend seems to disappear as fast as you spray it on while Sartoriale gets better with body heat. It has a very nice atomizer that burst a super-fine mist, perfect for dousing your whole body with which seems to be the only way I can get this stuff to hang around, although I do prefer heavier scents...I get what others have said about it being ALMOST a masterpiece...if you could get this in an EDP version, there would be 100 reviews on here. Extremely good value. Trend was a let-down, I use it carelessly as an all-over body spray and room spray, it smells great it just has zero presence or longevity. Sartoriale is the one to get of the two....As a matter of fact, I was convinced I needed Gucci Rush, but after reading so many people saying Sartoriale smells 'identical' of 'better' Im no longer jonesing for Rush because if Sartoriale is possibly BETTER than Rush...it would be a waste of money, it makes sense calling a brilliant fragrance that is highly addictive and sexy 'rush' because it doesn't last and demands constant compulsive use and spraying , leading to quicker use of the bottle making your buy more, they could have called it Blow

Wow, this has been a great blind buy. It is very Italian and contemporary, the fragrance as well as the bottle. I am surprised, as it's not what I was expecting, but I like it a lot. I love CdG Wonderwood fragrance that is compared to Gucci's Rush which is compared to this one. This has a very good realistic woody notes, but no cypress. Maybe it's more like Gucci's Envy. It has some nice floral nuances, Lilly of the valley, a favorite; makes this a great Springtime casual. I am adding it to my permanent collection. It's not like Wonderwood at all. With the woody I get the sweet Apple, almost like candy at first, then just fruity Apple with woods, and nice fresh Italian spices. It's very pleasant, and light, good for warmer weather, very casual and versatile fragrance. I have over 40 frags, and this is not like anything I have. For a designer fragrance price, this is almost niche quality, an exceptional value. And the projection is not to bad, decent. Good quality notes, nothing synthetic, in a cheep way, natural, bright smelling ! Rating: 8/10 God bless you. John 3:16.

Finally got my nose on this after months of seeking it out and I have to echo the disappointment of others below, sadly. The scent itself is fantastic and reminds me strongly of Montana Graphite, Azzaro Visit (not so much) and the top notes in Gucci Rush, all of which outperform Sartoriale easily. I actually own Gucci Rush aftershave balm and this basically equals that in performance. I’m not one to exaggerate, especially in reviews but this really is a short lived scent. Not like, it soon becomes a skin scent, more like 30 minute lifespan. Such a shame as it’s a great smell, even if it only lasted 2-4 hours I’d be ok with that but with performance this lacking, I’ll leave this one alone and move along.

I'd been searching for years for a good replacement for the discontinued (why??) Gucci Rush for Men, which to me was the most amazingly sexy men's fragrance ever. Finally, thanks to the other reviewers on here, I think I've found something close. It's warm, so sexy and masculine. Before giving it to my husband, I tried it on my wrist, and my nose was practically glued to my wrist for hours. I can't get enough of it! It does stay close to the skin, but that's OK with me, as I don't like overpowering fragrances. It has a warm intimacy that makes you want to stay close to it.

very,very good fragrance and for the price I will say it was a good buy.smells great,powdery and comes at you in phases.i might get another one just in case.am not too sure about longevity but I guess more than two sprays will do fine.I do normally take time to get to love a fragrance but this got me straight off.You can pick all the notes and dry down is superb.never used any of the Gucci line so cant compare it like others are doing.And oh, I love the design of the bottle.great work of art.just wondered,why is this so underrated?

Okay I see. The similarity between Sartoriale and Gucci Rush for Men, but it's still not Gucci Rush for Men (>_<)! The scent is quite woody and not as sweet as Gucci Rush as my skin amps up the vetiver a lot (In contrast, I smell more of cedar in Rush). At the mean time, I can get by using this while Gucci Rush remains out of production, which is pretty sad. Update: it has been over an hour now, and damn this thing really reminds me of Gucci Rush for Men. I gotta look for a bigger bottle ASAP!

Yes it has similarities with some Gucci fragrances, especially with Envy and little with Rush and maybe Pour Homme. I have all of them and this is like a mix of these Gucci's with dominant of Envy. It has some powdery and lipsticky feeling. In the begining seems to be very close to Rush but after 2-3 wearings that's changes for me. It's good but i can't find a replacement of Rush in Sartoriale.

I've had this one for a while and dug it out this morning for a respin today. It's just as I recall and in line with most of the comments: very pleasant and nicely blended but barely detectable after 15 minutes. It made me grab my venerable Carven Homme which has a similar sandalwood-spicy feel, but is far more dense, sophisticated and (on me anyway) lasts forever.

I got this long time ago... Can t remember an exact year.... My version is strong, long lasting with great sillage and as i had a sample of rush, i can tell rightaway, that this is great copy of rush.... At least old batch of this, as obviously even this perfume has been reformulated....

it starts off very spicy and reminded me shortly of Zirh's Ikon, but shortly it transitioned to a mellow rosey-woody accord. Exciting!

Lovely masculine but just wish it lasted longer on me, gone in 3 hours.
