Another unjustly forgotten gem. Pancaldi EDT Concentrée has a fantastic 80s vibe—still absolutely wearable—and certainly won't gather dust on your shelf. It is a slightly more nuanced take on Drakkar Noir, coming very close to the vintage version of the Guy Laroche masterpiece in terms of performance and quality. It is highly recommended for fans of 80s fougères; if that is your style, then Pancaldi Pour Homme won't just be another bottle in your collection. درود عطری حدودا برای سی و اندی سال پیش که تازه در دنیای عطر و ادکلن وارد شده بودم و آنرا از خیابان وزرا تهیه کردم خاطره ای از یک عطر قدیمی که دیگر هم ادامه پیدا نکرد. عطری نوستالژیک شاید عده بسیار کمی آنرا بشناسند و حتی نامش را شنیده باشند. A perfume about 30 years ago when I had just entered the world of perfume and cologne and I bought it from Vezara Street. A memory of an old perfume that didn't last anymore. A nostalgic fragrance Maybe very few people know it and have even heard its name.

Ordered this as a random extra to fill the quota for free shipping amongst a collection of vintage minis. I'm absolutely blown away! There's something in this that transports me away to my childhood. It's very warm spicy & green; Clove, cinnamon, basil. There is a creaminess to it as well, I'm guessing from the Sandalwood. There's still so much optimism & hope for the future! The smell reminds me of a frehsly baked gingerbread house set out to cool in front of fresh conifer Christmas tree. Having tried Drakkar Noir after I've tried Pancaldi; It's almost identical to vintage Drakkar Noir. I'm comparing them side by side and Pancaldi is stronger & bolder, but scent-wise 90% identical. There's a lot of clove in Pancaldi, which is what sets them apart.

I like this a lot. At first whiff it reminds me of Gruene's Vintage for Men, Pierre Cardin Musk, and Revillon's The French Line, but its fresh, green coniferous opening fades more quickly and becomes more subdued than any of those three. There are a lot of notes that seem to rise and fall over the life of the scent, and so well blended that even when individual notes appear, they remain as part of the whole as well. It's a leathery chypre with a prominent forest-y quality --- a genre that appears to have fallen from grace, since Pancaldi is the only one of the four still in production, and even it is hard to find.

I've got the concentree version. That scream more fern compared with the first version which actually was very poor in longevity and sillage but more vibrant and fresh, minty someway. Anyway this is a good creation, classic but dareful in something. My version smell sort of leatherviolet between the strong fern and the aromatic sweet cloves-tonka. Cause of that violet leather remember me also, in very far way, Fahrenheit Absolute/Fahrenheit.

I was inspired to write this review based on Sergey Borisov's latest article on Pancaldi for Men.* Originally I viewed this as a very old-smelling fragrance, the clove and cinnamon giving it a very heavy, oriental vibe, almost incense-like. Borisov however compares it to Drakkar Noir and that it was a product of the "dark" trend in men's perfumery at the time. I do get the Drakkar Noir vibe from it now. Not the same fragrance, because DN is sporty, soapy, and has a fresh vibe to it. But dial down the green mint and lemon from Drakkar Noir and play up the warmer and heavier notes and you kind of get a better idea of what Pancaldi is like. The opening is very green, but quickly it dries down into this warm, cool/cold weather appropriate scent. It's slightly rough-around-the-edges at first, which kind of reminds me of Santos de Cartier's heart notes. There's something more sweet and less sweat than Santos though which I'm attributing to the lack of cumin in the Pancaldi. It's decidedly masculine with it's boldness and that smokey warm aspect that's also comforting. There's some sweetness in there that makes it pleasant. And if I were to give attribute color to it, I would say it's black, red, and green. The black representing darkness and the smokey aspects. The red being the cinnamon and the clove. And the green being the fir and fern notes balance some of the dry smokiness with an element of moisture or some freshness. SIMILAR TO: It's very much its own thing, but there's aspects of it that remind of Drakkar Noir, Red by Gorgio Beverly Hills, and maybe some of the smokiness or "dressed up" ruggedness of Santos de Cartier. While it's not like VC&A's Tsar, I do view it as somewhat of the dark, "red" counterpart to Tsar's green. CONCLUSION: This is a very evocative fragrance. I'm an 80s baby, so the few fragrances I remember from that era are very nostalgic for me: Drakkar Noir, Eternity for Men, and Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. That said, a lot of the other fragrances from the powerhouse era don't quite match up with the bigger-than-life image that my young mind perceived of that decade. Pancald does though. If you've ever looked at fashion ads for men's attire from the 1980s, Pancaldi is the scent I imagine them wearing. All the cliches of a scent being mysterious, sexy, exciting, etc, actually fit this scent. It stimulates the imagination. This is a true standout from the 1980s and I'm glad I came across this recently for a cheap price. *I had to update this review based on A.Bandini's shout out. 8.5/10

Imagine a time where the smell of spicy, herbal coniferous forests were part of the zeitgeist of suave masculinity. It was foreshadowed with the likes of Jacomo de Jacomo, was exalted with the success of Drakkar Noir, and reached its zenith with scents like Pancaldi. In 1989, the style was refined and developed, and new bases and materials allowed perfumers to flesh it out into a full regalia, but just around the corner, it would be eclipsed by the aquatics and freshies that would typify the 90s. Mr. Pancaldi is dressed all in black, smoking Djarum clove cigarettes, drinking absinthe, reading Keats. His music tastes are 4AD and Factory, loves the imagery of Fellini films, and can't move on from unrequited love even though all the girls and boys are clamoring over him. He pines while smelling of pine, he is a wistful wormwood, careful not to reveal wonton desire, though a mischievous castoreum gives away the secret. Smokey cinnamon warm, stirring and distant, it settles into a lingering skin scent that is great for pondering the vicissitudes of life. Sigh. This stuff is nice.
