Fruit Thieves

This one was a blind buy for me. I had been searching for a passionfruit scent that was complex and interesting and thought this could fit the bill. So I bought a travel sized bottle while it as on sale. When I first tried it, I was a bit disappointed. My first impression was that it was too sweet, and perhaps even too sexy. I wanted bright and fresh and this felt heavier and stickier than what I was searching for. So I continued my search for what I thought I was looking for, but without thinking too much about it, kept finding myself returning to this one over and over again. I even ended up bringing it with me on a trip to out of the country and it was there that I finally began to understand the TRUE magic of this scent. Every evening, after returning home from a multi-mile tromp through the city's summer heat, I'd take a cool shower and find myself reaching for Fruit Thieves. It turns out, when I wasn't comparing it to some idea of fresh and funkiness I had in my mind, the vine note in this bottle is GORGEOUSLY fresh and wonderfully dank. And what I had originally thought was too sweet, is actually a warm sweetness, not at all cloying, and actually rather comforting. It was exactly what I wanted to return to. All together, the notes combine to form the perfect occasion - fresh yet familiar, a little funky and thus unique, a great little hit of passionfruit and bright summer fun. Also, good to note! I've only been wearing this scent during warmer months, but because of the warmth in it's sweetness, I can absolutely imagine this being a wonderful scent for cooler weather as well. And it's great for both day and night. A really great and versatile scent!!

Realistic passionfruit opens the fragrance. Tart yet sweet in the most pleasant, nostalgic, floral-honeyed way. Humid and tropical, yet fresh, like vacationing someplace sticky and hot, but it just stormed and you're walking through the wet jungle, steam rising. The passionfruit is anything but shy here, and it doesn't smell nearly as synthetic as in other fragrances I've tried. It's fresh and invigorating, and smooth and creamy. Green, yet sweet, and a slight bitterness offsets any potential linearity of the passionfruit. The jasmine enters, enveloping the passionfruit in a delicate but discernible way. Your jungle walk has reached a tropical garden full of subtle white blooms. Not the least bit indolic or heavy, and not soapy. You're burying your nose in a sweet, white flower while the remnants of the passionfruit you've just consumed drips down your chin. This is a fruity floral for those who want to smell tropical, but don't like sunscreen scents, and for those who have been traumatized by screechy, decaying white florals in the past. Very wearable.

Takes me back to the first time I tried passion fruits. Tart and juicy, lips puckered as the juice drips down. So tart it wakes you up. Dry down mellows the tartness and adds a beautiful, soft floral. Clean sheets and jasmine on vines. Slightly skanky as well. I love it so much. I hope to find a photorealistic green tea to pair with this, to make passion fruit green tea drink ;)

not a big fan of passionfruit anything, but was curious enough about the green notes in this perfume. it smelled very much like tomato vines for the first couple of hours, which i surprisingly quite enjoyed on my skin! then the passionfruit note started coming through, adding a nice depth to it without overwhelming my nose. i didn't really get the jasmine though which was very interesting to me since most jasmine based perfumes smell overwhelmingly floral on my skin. all in all, a good experience!

i definitely get that the fruit note in this is ripe, bordering on rancid but not yet rotten that my nose kept anticipating to go sour but didn’t. i love elevated fruit scents like this that try to smell like the entire fruit; rind and vine and tree and all, and this is no exception. i’m hoping that my nose knows to expect that the passion fruit isn’t turning in this but i fear wearing this in hotter, humid weather may bring out that facet more.

There is a sunscreen like note in the opening that in theory sounds gross, but I don’t hate it! Smells better the longer it is on my skin. Photo realistic passion fruit, with a faint whiff of pineapple. Tart but not too sweet. When buying a fruity scent I worry it will be cloying but this is quite nice. The description on the packaging matches the scent perfectly. Very much a summer scent!

A ripe passionfruit that's baking in the sun. It is warm, sweet, and tart all at once. It is not particularly layered or complicated. On my skin, I don't get any one of the green vines to balance the sweetness, so it is sadly a bit cloying to my nose. It is meant for someone who unapologetically wants to smell like a passionfruit.

I am currently on the hunt for a juicy fruity explosion that’s not too sweet and sadly this one isn’t it. I definitely didn’t get any sour/rancid/bile notes thankfully. On paper, I quite enjoyed this one and the name gave me vivid images of fruits bursting with flavor. However, on skin, this turned surprisingly floral for the first couple of hours. Jasmine is very hit or miss for me and can come across as dated and overbearing which was the case with this one. After the first several hours, the florals faded and it smelled like a standard fruit scent that I could find elsewhere. This one lasts a nice long while so that is definitely a perk if you like this one!

Tart sour fruit that smells like wine. Definitely get the fermented vibe. The green note, vine, is tricking the nose. It's almost a tomato leaf note. Unfortunately it leans a little close to burnt rubber. I don't hate it but don't want to wear it again.

This is awful. I scrubbed it off within 20 mins of testing it. I don't think it's my skin chemistry. I retested it about a month later on a piece of paper and it's still gross. I would describe it as dirty passion fruit but in the worst way possible. Maybe passion fruit in stomach bile. It's sour and dirty. I don't think the "vine" and passion fruit are playing nice with each other. I don't get jasmine at all.

I recently got a discovery set from Paraphrase, and I'm surprised as how much I love this comparing to the ones I thought I'd enjoy better! This is a very juicy ripe passionfruit with a green vegetative vine that balances out that fruity brightness. Think of a fresh tomato vine scent but just without the tomato itself. It's so refreshing and delicious. The passionfruit is pretty photorealistic. It makes my mouth water. I think it would be great in summer. I'd certainly want to experience this scent in different weather to see how it would act!

$162 for a 50ml niche perfume is a bargain for an artisanal, one of one, niche take on a passion fruit scent. Reviews on here get weirder and weirder. How do u say amazing things about a perfume- calling it “masterful”, but somehow believe paying $162 to support the small business that produced something special isn’t reasonable, let alone a bargain in today’s perfume market? I just don’t get some folks thought processes when evaluating fragrances.

As a certified passion fruit slut, I had to try this. I was very pleased to find it a sophisticated but green sour fruit, very photorealistic! Catching both the sweet and sour of the fruit masterfully, from one of the few algorithm-pushed fragrance houses I’ve found worth the hype. My only complaint? The price. $162.00 for 50mL is not reasonable.

HELLO byredo’s pulp (💔) replacement.. i still prefer pulp overall as this one has that stronger “fruit sitting in the sun” thing going on which will probably pull sortve..slightly stinky at first lmao but the dry down is way better. i don’t mind it but can definitely understand why someone would.

If you love Byredo's Pulp, you'll love this. It has the same overripe dark fruit smell, but is ever so slightly toned down. Highly recommend for those looking for an uncommon fruity scent perfect for the fall and winter.
