Gilded

Holy. I LOVE this fragrance. It is warm, spicy, sweet, sticky, and woody. It's perfectly unisex, personally I think leaning more feminine but I am a woman if that makes any difference. It lasts around well over 12 hours on my skin. Sillage is within arms length. Dry down is a little creamier and woodier, less of the sharp aromatic notes that you get at the beginning. Perfect for cold weather and rainy days. It feels like wearing a warm wool blanket. EDIT: I’ve been wearing this in warm weather this summer and it’s just as good as in cold weather. Beast mode performance. Lasts 15+ hours on my skin easily, even in hot weather. Personally, I don't get any of the pickle notes that some other people are talking about. There is nothing sour about this fragrance. There is a sharpness to the aromatics but nothing pickley about it, at least to my nose.

Delicious! Not in a traditional gourmand sense - but the spices and light sweetness really give christmas cookie vibes without being cloying. Abstractly, it's like sitting beside fresh-cut logs that are about to be lit in the fireplace, eating a spice cookie. Very much Christmas vibes but could be worn throughout fall/winter. Despite being woody and spicy it's still a light fragrance on my skin, yet has excellent longevity. That's a winning combination for me personally, a small but powerful scent bubble. I personally use this to tone down gourmands and give what would otherwise be a linear gourmand a more sophisticated and masculine feel, but it also stands well on it's own. I also tried layering with 'gold' as several other commenter suggested and it was very nice!

This is by far my favorite Libertine perfume. I love what this house is doing, but unfortunately most of their scents don’t mix well with my body chemistry. Gilded is the biggest exception. Both longevity and projection are absolutely beast mode on me; I easily get 10+ hours. I don’t get a lot of the sweetness listed in the scent profile. On me, Gilded is mostly woody and spicy, but I don’t mind that. The longer it’s on my skin, the better it smells, especially in warm weather. As noted in a review below, I layered it with Commodity’s Gold and it’s a phenomenal combination. I just got their newest perfume (Juice+) and it layers beautifully with Gilded as well.

This perfume plunged me right back to my undergraduate memories of being awoken on an Indian night train to a man selling me piping hot chai in a dixie cup, on my way from Goa to Mumbai. Milky, spicy, warm, metallic. Absolutely delicious, and lasts forever. Can't wait to buy a full bottle. For those concerned about price, Avon's Far Away Exotic is a fantastic, cheap dupe if you can find it (it's discontinued, and also panders to the outdated orientalism and exoticism of "oriental" fragrances that the perfume community is fortunately moving away from.) As for me? I'll be supporting a small Canadian business and relishing how good I smell while doing so.

If you're worried about smelling like a pastry while wearing Gilded, don't be. The spice notes are warm - I didn't get bitter like other reviewers - and the sweetness is just right, meaning hardly sweet at all. There's a definite sweetness to it, but it's not cloying like lots of "sweet" perfumes. Comparing the cardamom vs cinnamon notes, the scent skews hard to cardamom as the primary spice. The spiciness is smooth and not peppery. I bought 1.5 ml spray and will soon be getting a bottle. My only complaint is that this fragrance was very intimate on me and I do wish it lasted longer

A unique and very special fragrance. The cardamom / immortelle combo is *chef's kiss*. After exploring the discovery set, I split a full bottle with a friend and we both love it. Performance isn't amazing, but for this, I wear it more for myself anyway ... when I need to feel truly "Gilded". I can understand why it's not for everyone, but I cannot find anything about it to dislike! I encourage anyone curious about Libertine Fragrance to pick up the sampler set. There's a unique approach to perfumery here that I haven't experienced elsewhere.

This fragrance is my main character moment fragrance. My “going to the thrift store owned by cool people who were hippies in the 60s-70s, with a cold drink in my hands and Gold Dust Woman is playing in the store” fragrance. This is Woodstock in a bottle, but you’re on stage, wearing a fragrance crafted specially for you. This fragrance grew on me. I needed time to get to know the notes. Sink into them and how they made me feel. And now I can’t stop thinking about it when I’m not wearing it. I am hooked.

I find this to be prevalently woody on me, which is nice...usually spice and gourmand notes amplify on me, so I love that this smells like sawdust on me in the best way. Sunshine, childhood, lumberyard with my Dad... I also bought the perfume oil, and layering really helps longevity and still lets it be a gentle and personal scent. Also a nice bedtime smell.

The closest match to that initial fragrance spark I caught in Florence. Dusty, slightly woody almost musty but to me that' a good thing. Seems more linear than the other Libertine I've sampled so far. My favorite out of 4.

Here to second the creamy pickles / Le Labo Santal 33 comparison. Mostly in the dry down. When I put on my winter coat that I sprayed with it days earlier, all that’s left is the creamy pickles smell. I dig it tho.

This is a gorgeous fragrance for an adult male. Sexy and sophisticated. Really a nice job on making something classic so relevant. Its airy and incredibly wearable.

it has a very amber resin smell to me, the ones that you can get at music festivals and rub on your skin. hippie girls in the sun, late summer music festivals.

This is my fav indie perfume release of 2019.

Cardamom creamsicle dripping down my arm

This is a fragrance that I think would work best in autumn when the weather’s become cold and biting, but the snow hasn’t buried everything in a blanket of white just yet. It makes me think of grey skies, bare branches, and land the colour of rust and dust. While the fragrance is cold weather coded to me, its blending and balance keeps it from becoming too sticky-sweet, bitter, or brittle. There’s no recycled holiday potpourri or sticky Christmas desserts, instead it’s perfect for autumn or an autumn frame of mind. The sweetness in the fragrance mostly comes from brown sugar notes that almost feel dried out. It takes a moment for the sugar sweetness to appear after the one-two punch of powdered cinnamon and big, bold cardamom. Blending and twisting through these top notes is a thin curl of incense smoke, its winding trail in better focus than the resins themselves. The smokiness of the incense quickly diffuses to soften the edges of the spices and lazily settle through the woody base notes. There’s a subdued orange blossom briefly present—slight and transparent—that helps notes blend and transition from one stage of the fragrance to the next before almost disappearing entirely. While it lasts, it provides a nice additional brightness and acts like a white flower shadow to the immortelle which rounds everything out as it sits on the skin with a herbaceous quality and powderiness. The fragrance never becomes shrill or sharp. I’ve noticed a dusty, almost musty quality to the wood notes in other fragrances from this house, and that same quality is present in Gilded too. The smell evokes the interior of a bare-bones deep woods cabin, swept out and orderly, but boarded up for the offseason. It makes me think of wood construction and the still air inside, a space built for and used by people, now empty and waiting for the winter to come and go. There are undoubtedly stacked lengths of wood, already seasoned and split, set neatly beside the cabin’s stove. Gilded is very cozy, set firmly in a warm, spiced, cuddly space. As time goes by it fades to hover closer to the body like a comfy sweater.

initally started strangely bitter and "inside of a heated car"ish for me in a way i had a hard time explaining. after a couple hours, it went down to a very distinct brown sugar smell, people mentioning chai i can definitely see, although (at least on me) the sweetness comes out stronger. a bit better sillage than some other libertine scents i've tried, and a slightly longer longetivity too although i agree with the people who find libertine perfumes to quickly turn into skin scents. not a bad perfume, but a bit too heady for me-- or at least, i may have to wait until it gets cooler to enjoy this one EDIT: we got a cold snap and i tried this one again, it's /much/ better in cold weathers. went from a middling 6/10 to a solid 8/10 for me. the bitter notes were much less noticable, if at all, and the sweetness went from being a bit nauseating to perfectly warm and spicy. i would absolutely consider purchasing a bottle of this, but i'd really need cold weather to enjoy it

It's dry, tart, and has that urban hip vibe reminiscent of Le Labo scents or something like Ex Nihilo's Vetiver Moloko. If I smelled it blind, I would actually think it's a new Le Labo scent, although Gilded has much better projection and longevity than those Le Labo scents I'm thinking of. I smell a lot of sandalwood in combination with whatever gives it a subtle "creamy pickles" nuance, burnt wiring (vetiver?), maybe some leather and incense. I don't smell burnt sugar or immortelle, so if you are looking for a deep bitter-sweet fragrance for a date night, it's probably not that interpretation of immortelle you are thinking of. It's not gourmand, to my nose. If you are looking for something edgy and stylish, yet appropriate in business environment, then go for it. Again, it has very good performance and the composition itself is quite complex and versatile.

Sprayed my sample of this on Christmas day and it was the perfect scent! Sweet, warm, gentle. The spices are very soft and mingle well with the brown sugar and wood notes. Not distracting at all and doesn't get cloying with Christmas dinner food. This is a great cold weather scent, along the lines of Althaïr but not as heavy and somewhat more nuanced. Performance felt pretty solid, was still going even after dinner and about to shower and head to bed. Definitely full-bottle worthy.

Mentioned below mixed Commodity's Gold and Gilded is understandable as they share a similar base. On my skin, Gilded presents a fleeting sandalwood note that quickly transitions into a delightful hay and woody blend. This dry-down is very pleasant to the nose. I was hoping for more pronounced immortelle and orange flower notes, as they are favorites of mine. However, in this one, the middle notes seem somewhat muted or missing altogether. But, I enjoy the scent overall.

I feel like I smelled something like Gilded recently, but I can't put my finger on what. It's a lovely cozy scent. I pick up mostly cardamom and immortelle. Smells like gently spiced baked goods and warm sparkly drinks.

A lot of people use the term "warm" to describe this scent, but I find it a little too dry & bitter for my liking :/

Rich and complex like all of his fragrances, and smell like a warm cup of chai.

cardamom bomb, reminds me of venenum from l’artisan parfumeur but leaning warmer and slightly stickier/less dry. where venenum is lactonic and woody, this is brown sugared and resinous, i like it but i wish it was a bit less sweet

I have a hard time with cardamom, unless its a cookie.

I recently bought a Libertine Fragrance 8-pack sampler because many of the perfume notes intrigued me. I permanently moved to South Florida from Michigan about 1.5 years back, so I want to "lighten up" my usual go-to fragrances. The Libertine line seemed hopeful. The listed fragrance notes in Gilded are not ones that would ever draw me in. However, a sample was in my sampler pack, so of course I gave it a try. From my sampler pack, Gilded was amongst a few of the most intolerable fragrances. Out of the bottle and onto my skin, Gilded boasts spices, spices and spice-y notes. Cardamom seems to be the main player here and the one note that continues making an appearance, cardamom along with cinnamon. A singular, linear, non-complex and rather boring fragrance, IMHO. For me, there is zero appeal. Silage is a bit greater than other Libertine fragrances; yet as was my experience with all Libertine Fragrance perfumes, this one sits close to the skin. Thankfully, on me longevity is poor. People mention "warm chai-tea" with this one...I don't quite get that either. Also, cannot imagine a woman wearing this fragrance...but then again, I cannot imagine ANYONE wearing this scent. Not sure why one might want to walk around smelling like stale Asian spices. Not a good fragrance. Gilded is definitely not for me.

I am unreasonably obsessed with this scent. Purchased the sample pack as a birthday gift to myself, and I was initially most excited to try Sex & Jasmine (which I also love), but was not expecting to love Gilded as much as I do. It is intensely spicy on first spray, as others have said, a bomb of cardamom and ginger. Then a waft of incense, resinous and ever so slightly smokey. The whole vibe is very dry, warm, and elegant while still being comfortable and cozy. It has pretty moderate throw and strength at this stage, and lasts for a couple hours. The dry down though, oh my god. Once the spices calm down a little it becomes a creamy, buttery, every so slightly salty and intimate brown sugar scent. Much more gourmand in this stage but still elegant, it never smells cupcake or juvenile. Very close to the skin, with a slightly charred, dry sandalwood edge. A perfect Fall/Winter fragrance. The vibe is like expensive Christmas cookies served at a bougie office holiday party, or if they served sugar cookies instead of communion wafers at church.

I love this fragrance. I purchased a sample set in early 2022 from Libertine and Gilded stuck out to me immediately. It’s warm, it’s spicy. It smells golden, literally. As a pagan, I actually use it as a protection element, imagining the scent is literally covering me in a layer of golden light and warmth. So, in other words, it’s very special to me. With that, I will say that it is heartbreaking that it lasts such a short amount of time. I’m surprised by how many votes noted that it’s longevity is moderate. I’m not sure if I’m applying it wrong or what, but I find it does not cling to my skin at all. It does linger on clothing, but I suppose I wish there was more of a dry down with my skin scent. Still, it’s lovely and it’s a fragrance I plan to keep in my rotation forever.

I am really wondering why no one else smells an overwhelming industrial strength, petroleum-based solvent chemical smell, like shoe polish with this one? Is that supposed to be there? I smell it in so many fragrances that list leather or suede as a note, but this one lists no leather or suede notes. I guess that's how my nose perceives those suede and leather notes? But when it's not in the notes list and it's a smell I don't like, it's a bummer. I really love Fin de Siecle by Paraphrase, it's got it's own thing going on but all the things are listed in the notes. Anyway, I wish someone could explain this phenomenon to me.

Very spicy and fresh. It not Christmasy but the shift from fall to winter, especially in the first spray. As it dries it becomes more powdery and candy-like, kind of like spun sugar. Cinnamon and sugar toast with a cup of black tea as my dad does wood working in the basement (anyone who's been around carpenters knows the smell) Really lovely dry down, but didn’t project well, it clung very close to the skin.

The brown sugar on the dry-down makes me go psycho bonkers I love it so much but the cardamom..!!!!!!! :( Not my thing I think...chat can we try this with a different spice? EDIT: nvm i'm getting used to the cardamom scents, i think the cinammon really helps balance it out so it's not too spice-y and remains sweet and inviting. the brown sugar is completely intoxicating still. yum. so yummYYYY

Gilded is like a thick blanket of electrical fuzz, and I mean that very positively. Spicy, vaguely metallic in places, warm and sweet in a rough, burnt sugar kind of way. This is the third Libertine frag I've tried and they've all been completely delightful.
