Koke Shimizu (Moss Water)

I purchased a 50mL bottle of this perfume at Parfum Satori’s atelier shop in Tokyo at the beginning of a trip to Japan in winter, looking for a uniquely Japanese fragrance that I could wear throughout my travel as a way of “scent-bookmarking” the experience to instill it memory even after returning home. Koke Shimizu immediately stood out to me because of its exquisite photorealism to the accompanying description: “Moist and soft moss; a fresh scent like spring water in the forest”. I wore it throughout my journey north across Japan through snow-blanketed woods and frozen waterfalls, ancient temples and moss-covered gardens, and to me Koke Shimizu became the perfect wearable encapsulation of the green airy tranquility of being outdoors amongst Japanese nature. Though listed as a citrusy fragrance, there’s nothing at all astringent or sharp about it – rather, it feels clean, peaceful, grounded, and uplifting, like a taking deep breath beside a forest spring. As a lover of earthy green fragrances, it’s safe to say this has become one of my all time favourite scents that I never want to be without. Grateful to Satori Osawa-san for creating such an olfactory masterpiece. In accordance with the Japanese values of being unobtrusive and of finding beauty in the ephemeral, sillage wears close to the skin, with the fragrance trailing off into its quiet, powdery oakmoss base around the 4-5 hour mark which makes the photorealistic opening all the more invigorating to experience in the moment. Timeless and well-suited to any gender and occasion, this would make a great gift or travel memento.

I am very much a gourmand girl but when i tried this at the parfum satori store in tokyo i was really blown away. Theres something incredibly nostalgic about this scent to me, I cant quite put my finger on it. Its very fresh and green but but without being overwhelming at all, like cold water in a lush forrest. It reminds me of going to the Marimo Observation Center on lake Akan in Hokkaido lol v mossy slightly aquatic and completely tranquil

For me, Koke Shimizu is both warm moss and cold water. It starts mostly with cold water and crisp air, lemon juice and a bit of white flowers, and then turns rather quickly into deep forest aroma of moss and ferns. It gives the feeling of inner harmony and total relaxation.

-Generic green oakmoss scent with a hint of soybean note to it. -Much less in-your-face than oakmoss offerings from the house of CdG. -Doesn't lean too masculine either. Female who enjoy skin scents might appreciate this. -Interesting, despite not being a scent profile I gravitate towards. (-)

It starts off with a clean ozonic feeling, then quickly turns into a mix of soft lactonic and deep green heart, very relaxing, perfect for the day. It really gives the idea of some kind of downy moss. Sillage is strong at the beginning, then it gets milder but stays skin close for hours.
