Murasaki no Ue (Lady Murasaki)

Parfum Satori’s Atelier is located about 10 minutes walk from the Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo Roppongi. My daughter used to work there as a part timer until just recently and I was asked to do some souvenir T-shirt shopping for her, so, that was a great opportunity for me to visit Satori’s shop. That particular day I visit was in fact closed to the public but Satori generously let me in!! She and her staff members were working on their up coming new fragrance launch, shooting pictures. I shouldn’t have stayed there too long but I was so excited to be able to meet another Japanese perfumer in person after Ms. Hanayo Tashiro who infact directly learnt from Edmond Roudnitska. There are almost no famous perfumer in Japan but Satori seems quite successful with marketing her own brand. I probably smelt everything that day. Amongst her entire collection, MURASAKI no UE (Lady Murasaki ) is my favorite. It is a bright fruity floral with grape and Jasmine at the top and gradually woodsy sandalwood with small amount of musk emerge from behind, giving a mysterious darkness. Comparing with other Satori ‘s fragrances, MURASAKI no UE is a bit stronger. Japanese fragrances are always soft and inoffensive because too strong perfumes are considered to be too pushy, self centered and unsophisticated and called “KY” which is an acronym for "Ku-ki ga Yomenai". in Japanese. Literal meaning of the phrase is "He/She can not read the air". Person who is KY doesn't know what is expected of him to-say or to-do in a situation, and often saying things that cast a chill over the whole room. MURASAKI no Ue has just the right projection and silage. I also like this perfume because of it’s name. Murasaki no Ue is a name of one of the wives of Genji in ‘The Tale of Genji’ written by the most famous Japanese female author around the year 1000. MURASAKI no UE gives me an intelligent mood and makes me want to read Japanese classic literature. This is truly an amazing and unusual fragrance~❤︎

This brought me a huge headache. Strong jasmine with muskiness & sandalwood. Not interested - which is so sad because I actually wanted to like this perfume.

It's a very delicate scent. I can smell the real purple grape from the top notes, it's light, fresh and wonderful. Violets and jasmine are the dominant notes, very elegant, but the floral and grapey notes don't last long, ending with a vague musk.

-Grapes? That's a first I've seen this note featured. -From a blotter strip, this just comes across as a clean lipstick scent with hints of soapiness (-)
