Type Writer

#1734 in my “Tour de Fragrance” Got this decant from scentsplit.com. In a word, WOW! This juice is my jam! Think Mizensir “Incensum”, Olfactive Studio “Chambre Noire”, Byredo “Baudelaire”, L’Artisan Parfumer “Dzongkha”, Tom Ford “Ebene Fume”, and of course, the godfather of all men's fragrance excellence, the 2003 version of Gucci “Pour Homme.” There are less pricey scents like Molinard “Santal Insolent” that do something like this, and much less pricey scents like Fragrance World “Alpha” and “Ebony Fume”, Maison Alhambra “Incense Ebony” that do this leather-incense-papyrus combination that works so well for longevity and projection. But this scent offers stellar blending and quality. It makes a statement, and the statement is, “I like this and do not care if you don’t!” Fall and winter scent. Definitely for men. Office wear if you’re the boss or plan to be. Date wear that if you aren’t a man of accomplishment will come off pretentious. No need to bathe in it. This is an all day and into the next day scent. Best price I’m finding is $280 for 100ml which for this is not crazy, BUT, definitely get a decant and make sure this is for you before buying. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Definitely sprays on very "avant-garde" and would probably be off-putting to a lot of people, though I like it. Smells like the insides of an old abandoned machinery factory. Once it begins to dries down, it turns into a completely delightful incense fragrance. The drydown reminds me somewhat of Jovoy's La Liturgie Des Heurs, not necessarily in the exact scent profile, but in that same sense of incense evoking a particular mysterious mood. Sillage and longevity are off the charts, also.

I thought Type Writer was not a fragrance, more of an industrial smell. But as I slowly used up my sample, I became more and more open to this perfume. Yes, it's a concept fragrance, and no, it's not really wearable, but it's an exciting piece of art and as such, quite unique. For those who like challenging fragrances!

I see either sleeping city at night, asphalt after rain, smell of gasoline and passing by cars. Or old abandoned factory, smelling of oil, dust and rubber. Anyway this fragrance is very dark, strong and bold, very industrial, at the same time animalistic and sensual (heart notes). Loved it

Amazing fragrance, absolutely uni'strong'sex. It's technically perfect, with a coherent structure - 2 sprays are enough for the whole day, and the clothes smell a divine everlasting perfume - How many compliments I get, but I don't tell anyone my secret !!

Love this!! Very strong and deep - great sillage. Reminds me of tarmac on a hot summer’s day. And rubber. More incense as it dries down. Saving up for a full bottle...

Dark, brooding, unmistakably inky, the gloss of black ink on thick paper. The opening has a brief aldehydic brightness that quickly fades into the dryness of papyrus, smoky leather, and castoreum. Birch tar rises like smoke curling through the air, while incense and labdanum create a resinous depth that feels almost ceremonial. The whole composition speaks of elegance and authority. It carries the presence of someone seated at the top of the hierarchy, a fragrance that does not need to raise its voice to command the room. It is masculine-leaning yet refined, perfectly suited to boardrooms, formal gatherings, or occasions where gravitas matters more than charm. In my imagination I see a black and white marble chessboard as heavy drops of ink spread across the squares, swallowing the light and making every move feel deliberate. Of all the perfumes I own, this is the one that leaves the darkest and most indelible impression. The only drawback is the atomizer. It feels stiff and temperamental, never releasing the mist as smoothly as the perfume deserves, which makes the experience a little less fluid than it could be.

My, my, what a surprise. The first few minutes after spraying, I got a scent of very mild leather. Was kinda disappointed. But within about 20 to 30 minutes, Type Writer really started to bloom. After about 45 minutes to an hour, it had settled down and the same scent remained for the remainder. The best way to describe Type Writer is to say it's an industrial scent. That is, smells like a factory - not a PC assembly plant but an oily machine shop. I got equal parts of leather, oil, dust and an animalic component. It also had a very musty (with a 't', not musky) aspect. I started wondering, hmmm, leather and oil - let's compare Type Writer to Guilty Absolute. After a spritz of GA on my wrist, it was quite easy to distinguish between them. GA is a leather fragrance. Type Writer is not. It's an industrial scent. As I stated above, equal parts of the different components, with not one dominating. Longevity was very good while sillage was more on the moderate side after about an hour. To me, this is a very masculine fragrance. I have to get me a bottle of this.

It smells like soot. With woody & oudy undertones, smoke and a bit of rubber. I don't remember it very well, but it might be similar to the insides of a typewriter. Very cool, dark, deep and black scent. Wouldn't know where or when to wear it myself, as I think it is a rather masculine perfume. And on the right guy it will smell like a million bucks.

They say moon dust but it’s a lot closer to Lampblack. I get strong aldehydes, sichuan pepper, leather, castoreum, galbanum and birch. It smells of shoe polish and leather goods at first glance, but after a while the pepper and galbanum take over which unfortunately, is a combination that makes things acerbic on my skin. There is a touch of animalics due to the castoreum, and you can feel it, which may or may not sit well with people. I also get a bit of oud also, synthetic. Overall, not bad, but not great either. Could have been the perfect leather scent, if it were not for the overdone pepper and scorched plant smell.

Sorry but this does not smell like a type writer. I don’t know what it is, but this smells medicinal, chemical, and pissy. Reminds me of Javanol, even though citrus is not listed here I don’t know how they made it so bad. Worst Parfumerie Particulière fragrance out of the 4 I tried (Pluie Noire, Belle Epoque, and Berlin(h)er)

I got this perfume for a good deal like 75$, and I have to say Typewriter is challenging one, that opening will punch you in your face and it will stay for some time (it's Extrait DP), so animalic, dark and masculine. actually, on my first experience, I had to tune it down with molecules 01 Not for everyone for sure

Smoke.. Balsam... Birch Tar... I get more of an ink than a leather! ink, birch tar, balsamic, Amberwood, labdanum, papyrus, & incense all framed in an aldehyde note! It is very much of a birch tar, ink, and amberwood.

I haven’t tried this perfume, but would just like to comment that the “related products” section on its fragrantica page features actual typewriters.
