Assam of India

I discovered this by accident. One day I was running late and forgot to spray on a perfume. I was looking through my bag to find something to wear and I dug out a sample of Assam of India. I sprayed it and didn’t give it a second thought. Throughout the day I kept getting a pleasant whiff of something clean, citrusy, soft and nice. I went around sniffing my coworkers trying to track it down. It wasn’t till I was on my way home when I realized it was me. I tested it a second time and I was pleasantly surprised how wonderful this smelled. It was far from what I was attracted to in a scent. I gravitate towards heavy florals and powdery scents so to fall in love with a tea and lemon scent was quite a surprise. This is a heavy tea scent. The lemon is bright and I admit a tad artificial. There is sandalwood which I don’t pick up at all but maybe in the dry down depending on the weather. Assam of India is just beautiful. I don’t usually care for compliments but this is a people pleaser, when I wear it I’m constantly being asked what I’m wearing or being told I smell nice. Since 2018 I have gone through a couple bottles and a few travel sizes. I use to get it from Sephora and they no longer carry it and I can't seem to find anywhere that that has it in stock. I don’t want to think that this is being discontinued. If I wasn’t afraid of commitment I would say this is my signature.

A summer time heaven. Assam of India is one of the best summer fragrances I've came across, period. It's as if a master perfumer wanted to create Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea with the best ingredients from scratch. Assam of India is a linear fragrance in the perfect way. It's smells of green, natural, fresh tea with an almost equal amount of invigorating, happy, & uplifting lemon. There is a certain soft & mild sweetness that compliments this scent so well. It prevents it from being too sharp or harsh, & makes it rather more relaxed & mellow. I don't detect the sandalwood. Here it's one of those unperceivable notes. Probably added to drive the scent toward a certain olfactory aspect or maybe for chemical reasons. Overall, an absolutely gorgeous, bright summer scent that is a must try for the lovers of fresh, citruses, or tea scents. It's not ground breaking but a it's a simple formula executed to perfection. The performance is good. The sillage drops down after an hour or two but the scent lasts for 6+ hours. Unisex, warm weather wear. "Love"!

Came back to update my review. This is my No 1 black tea fragrance now! I wasn't sure about the price tag at first, because the initial citrusy tea spritz reminded me of Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden. But no! This one is a true Lipton Lemon Ice Tea, whereas EA GT is just on the edge of being too citrusy, like a cleaning product. AoI is not only a photorealistic, refreshing tea scent but it is also super long lasting on clothes. I could still smell it 8 hours later which isn't typical for tea fragrances. I was lucky enough to get one for less than 50 EUR at a sale and it is one of the best deals I got so far this year. I actually blind bought this. A big recommendation to all tea fragrance lovers.

this is sooooo pretty and girly feeling to me. it's really nicely priced, and it lasted a full 8-hour shift on the fry station in a kitchen so i'd say it's worth the price. its a more refined, cleaner version of Elizabeth Arden green tea. this perfume house also makes perfumes that are good for layering more complex fragrances on top, so this really checks all my boxes. plus the bottle with the little elephant pattern is so cute!!

A perfect everyday perfume if you're looking for something bright and approachable, but not boring. The spiciness of the heart makes me feel like there's more going on here than just lemon, tea, and sandalwood. If that's really all it is, then they packed a lot of flavor into that tea note. This feels like waking up on a crisp morning and sipping orange juice in a spice market. Sunshine in a bottle.

This is a unique citrus tea scent with some woody notes that come out on the drydown. At first spritz it smells like strong, freshly-brewed, sweetened black tea with a squeeze of lemon. Although it's marketed as being for women, I would argue that this is quite unisex due to it smelling exactly like a brewed tea. It's fresh but refined. A great introduction into tea scents that isn't too sharp.

This is lovely! I am fussy with citrus notes but this is gentle and refreshing. It truly does smell like lemon tea. The perfect balance of tea and lemon. I imagine this is a delight on a hot summer day. I am a little confused by the name though, as it is not spicy at all. I will be getting a bottle of this ASAP :) Extra points for cute bottle.

Great frag! It's indeed gorgeous. Lemon tea with creamy sandelwood undertone, almost undetectable, but it is there. And together with the tea it lingers long, almost 10h, but mostly as a close skin scent. It project well for the first 2 hours or so. Great for everyday summer wear, office friendy and soft enough for dinner parties. Love it. 91

Simple but lovely work. A straightforward lemony tea scent, softened by the barest touch of sandalwood. Feels easygoing, natural and carefully put together with solid raw materials. Can’t wait to see how it performs in the warmer weather. Note: The juice is more clear than depicted here but the elephants on the bottle are beautiful.

A beautiful crisp, bright, lemony (but not sweet) tea. Reasonable longevity given the freshness of the notes. Not an ambroxan or calone bomb. Uncomplicated, easy to wear happiness in a bottle.

I really, really wanted to love Assam of India. Judging by the simple, enticing note list, it looked like a very promising candidate for one of my holy grail categories: the perfect lemon tea scent. I already own and love Carthusia's Mediterraneo, which comes pretty close to that epithet, but there's room for at least one more in my collection, especially if it's more straightforwardly focused on the tea note - and I thought this might be the one. On top of that, the name appeals to the imagination, the bottle design is absolutely delightful, and even the price is reasonable... what could go wrong? Of course, with expectations as overblown as that, plenty could go wrong when I finally managed to get my hands on a decant, and I was unsurprisingly disappointed. The kicker is, for about five minutes in the opening, it does smell exactly like I had dreamed it would: pure, delicious lemon tea, slightly bitter and not too sugary, refreshing and natural. But all too soon the balance of the scent is disturbed, at least to my nose, by a rather soapy accord. Combined with the dominant lemon note, this is inevitably reminiscent of cleaning products, and once that thought has entered my head it's hard to get rid of it. It's not bad at all, and I can imagine it even seems delicate and lovely to those fortunate enough never to have had occasion to smell Mr Clean. For me, unfortunately, it means the end of my beautiful dream about Assam of India: I'll keep my decant around to experience that wonderful opening from time to time, but unless my taste changes dramatically that beautiful bottle will never adorn my shelves. Too bad, but at least it's an excuse to keep sampling lemon tea scents, which I'll never get tired of doing!

Just infuriating. A brilliant idea of combining some lovely notes (strong lemony tea, given some legs by sandalwood) but then completely let down by pathetic execution. Same problem as with a lot of other Berdoues: an absolutely ravishing opening that goes straight down the drain / into the ether within a heartbreakingly short time. For me it goes like this: TEA - actually detectable, astringent, woody black tea - one of the loveliest and truest captures of this obviously extremely elusive note, which I've not smelled done so well yet in any other perfume - that lasts for literally less than 2 minutes. And then morphs into... LEMON TEA - good, fresh, real-seeming, zesty lemon tea, not sour, just lovely, oddly reminds me of Lipton's Iced Tea mix (and that's a good thing) - with this phase lasting for all of an hour and a bit. then a bit of SANDALWOOD - very, very, very, very low key, so low key it's barely there, just hanging about in an ambient way for maybe another hour or so. So that's 2 hours of extreme subtlety after 2 minutes of beauty - and that's it, that's your lot, that's all you'll get. Aaaaaaaaargh absolutely exasperating. I would be 100% sold on this if they'd found a way to make the initial effect hang on. As it is it just makes me grumpy (did ya guess?). Try it if you think your skin might let it survive longer. Like the others in this line it claims to be an EDP but performance is barely EdT level. *throws things around in a tantrum*

By the name Assam of India I was really expecting a strong black tea smell...but this smells a lot like Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea. It's a better version for sure, lasts longer and is clearer, less muddled. Assam of India is like pulling all the facets of Green Tea into sharp focus. Everything in this perfume is brighter, sharper, more sparkling. Especially the lemon. Sweet, uplifting, smelling of sunshine filtering through clean windows and morning birds frittering through the air. This doesn't smell like actual green tea to me either - it smells like tea scented beauty products. I don't think tea scented beauty products have actually ever smelled like real tea to me. Maybe because they all smell cool and refreshing, whereas I always drink my tea hot? Perhaps if you had an iced green tea, sweetened well and with plenty of lemon, it might smell like this. Actually, yes, I remember now - I used to drink a Lipton green tea with lemon that they sell in bottles, cold. I can see the similarity between this fragrance and that drink. Very sugary, that drink was. Delicious, crisp, light, and very pleasant for a summer afternoon. Get this if Green Tea is your fragrance of choice but doesn't last on you.

Very nice for the price. If you enjoy the idea of a lemon note, over a slightly sweetened watery tea accord and a bit of a spicy edge (a bit of cardamom is mostly what I get), chances are you will like this one. Simple, straightforward, a very valid alternative to Carthusia Mediterraneo, which is slightly sweeter and less spicy. The Carthusia has a slight peachy fruity facet too it that further reinforces the ice tea vibe, but to my nose it is a bit too aggressive; it also has sligthly thyme-like herbal facets that are replaced by the warm spicy elements in Assam. Good longevity too, although the citrus portion itself is quite fleeting.

A light, bright, and lovely black tea with lemon. The sandalwood is a minor player, appearing in the far dry down. This is a cheerful and uncomplicated scent, perfect both for casual weekends and crisp white summer clothes, and it is wonderfully refreshing on hot days. Longevity is nothing short of astounding for an EDC; this easily lasts 10-12 hours on me without a refresh. If you have Dior's Escale a Pondichery, you won't need this, as they are virtually identical; however, I confess to having purchased it anyway, because I adore the bottle! Overall, a good bargain and a very easy to wear fragrance.

Smells nothing like Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea - I use that as a work fragrance due to its non-offensive/uncomplicated nature. On me this smells like strong expensive black tea paired with a note that softens the edges (although not lemony at all on my skin). The only scent I would compare it to is another favorite of mine Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca - minus the mint plus a touch of Herbal Essences shampoo. Lovely for hot and humid weather.

Very nice Arnold Palmer type fragrance- a simple but well balanced citrus tea fragrance that is smooth. I picture a male/female professional golfer or tennis player using this fragrance - in other words, the person wearing this type of fragrance probably would be wearing a clean cut white sport outfit with a visor - perhaps staring in a feminine products commercial - fresh summer perfume.

Pretty straight forward, very nice and fresh black tea scent. It's like ultra strong dark unsweetened iced tea with plenty of fresh lemon. Soft woody dry down. Easily unisex. In hot humid weather longevity could be a bit better, but I think there's no harm in applying it liberally. I might just pick up a full bottle one day.

Lipton iced tea with plenty of lemon--an easy reach fragrance. This wasn't what I was expecting, but it is enjoyable and I will use it. I was actually hoping for more spices that I didn't get, so I'm surprised others are remarking on this. Maybe my nose just needs to rest. I will update if anything changes.

Agree with the comments it is a fresh delicious iced tea on a humid hot day. Light and airy with enough depth from the sandalwood. I would buy a full bottle if I did not already have Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea. This one does have a tinge more depth yet they do smell nearly identical.

Nice, cozy summertime scent. The opening smells to me exactly like lemon iced tea from a powder mix. Then it evolves in a more cozy, creamy, soapy direction. While that Nestea accord is kind of odd, it doesn’t stay there long, and the rest of the wearing is really nice.

my girl loves it, she has her own bottle and bought another one for me :) i like it for hot days (more than 20°C), appropriate for driving long roads in the car, also for business meetings for couple of hours, non offensive, pleasant, not that much generic.

Add something sweet to this fragrance and it’s the Arnold Palmer of perfume. Gets a bit soapy on me so while definitely wearable its not my fav of the tea perfumes. Terrible sillage, doesnt last long.

Opening is very citrusy, after 15 minutes on me the tea comes out. The tea heart smells very pleasing. The smell sits on the skin, no projections whatsoever, lasting power is poor as well

Nice low key tea fragrance, could well be a go-to in the rotation for me next spring and summer. I find it clean, minimal and lovely. Will likely purchase a bottle.

A pleasant sunny cup of tea with a great big squeeze of lemon, great for hot weather. Staying power could have been better but it's still a nice pick-me-up.

This definitly needs to be tested on skin bevore buying! Its a lovely very autentic teascent. Not sweet at all not realy citrusy. Like a lemongreentea bag. But on my skin somethin in it remeinds me a bit of BO or urin. It smells unwashed and dirty to me. Projects at arms length for an hour tops and then goes to a skinscent imidatly. I will wash this off, but from what I can smell now this might stick around for two or 3 hrs max. Wich is to be expected with such a fragrance.

The citrus is only strong in the beginning but after the first 5 minutes or so it's all sweet black tea. I wish the woody note is stronger to make the experience more interesting. I prob should try to layer it with Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau Fraiche as the base because that one has tea and citrus in the opening but settles and stays at being woody for the most part.

I think you either love this or you hate this; maybe that's too strong a word. I mean, it does develop nicely from the opening blast of "sweet, low-register weird." Is that the sandalwood? The tea is super obvious and projects 2-3 feet. The lemon adds the slightest bit of an astringent note. While I can appreciate tea scents, they have to be more nuanced.

The lemon is a soft creamy sherbet and the tea gives a lovely refreshing liquid impression. Still projecting gently after 12 hours which is impressive for a citrus though with time the lemon becomes less realistic and a slightly disagreeable feminine leaning base emerges.

블라인드 구매 했는데 생각보다 레몬향이 더 진하게 나서 실망... 향긋하고 담백한 홍차냄새를 기대했는데, 그게 아니었다... 홍차향의 느낌도 담백하기보다는 눅진하고 더 토속적인 느낌...아쌈티의 향..(그럼 뭘기대했던거야?) the lemon is emphased more than I thought.

I was so excited for a tea perfume, but it doesn't emit that note on my skin. In the bottle I smell a lemon tea/leafy note, but when I put it on I get a lemon cleaner smell, like clorox wipes. The room where it wafts into smells like tea but my skin doesn't. It is fairly linear except for the end, where the fixative (not in the notes) is left by itself. It smells like a musk or other similar fixative was used because that far outlasted the other scents. I would have seen this perfume as a "nice concoction but not for me and my skin chemistry" but the last musky smell feels so opposite to the intended profile, so I wish they would have used something like a wood resin instead that would make it feel more natural. It has a genuinely nice tea like aroma from a distance and I may see what it's like on paper and if it could be a room scent instead. Be aware it doesn't actually smell like any real tea, it smells like how tea is often represented in perfume.

This mostly smells like (strongly) lemon-scented cleaning products for a few minutes (Lemon Pledge), and then a sort of watery fresh scent with a softer lemon. I don't smell Assam tea, or sandalwood. It's fresh, clean, and suitable for hot weather, but only lasts a few hours. I think there's just something missing here. I have layered it with a rose, jasmine, lemon, and sandalwood perfume oil (Nationale 6/7 by OLO; fantastic by the way) that I have, which actually helps bring out the tea scent of this one.

Assam of India is a pop in the nose of lemon at first spray. It smelled of scented household cleaner on my skin and I am not a fan of that. Normally I have a difficult time smelling citrus scent. My nose seems blind to them unfortunately. Too bad for me that I do not care for this particular lemon note that I can smell strongly. The tea and sandalwood were fine.

So, I know it's not popular here to be negative about a fragrance but man did I hate this one. It was like watery tea gone bad- and SO strong on the tea. Others have done tea fragrances artfully and after smelling how nauseating this one is- I have a deeper respect for Bvlgari's Au the Vert and L'Occitane's Vert for example. I purchased a sample of this because someone said it was similar to the discontinued Dior Pondichery and let me tell you- it's not even in the same ballpark. This was not light or fresh for me. I did get this as part of a sampler collection from Berdoues and found myself liking creations, but this was by far the worst. Terrible for me, sorry!

I love a nice & strong tea note, whether that's green, black, lapsang or any of the other many varieties. What's difficult however, is capturing that essence in a perfume in a way that is long lasting, true to the inspiration, and the star of the show instead of playing second fiddle. Assam of India gets close to the above criteria but falls a bit short. The opening, as others have mentioned is 100% powdered Lipton ice tea mix, but if it were rebranded from a minimal, high end brand. This part is nice, as it instantly hits my nostalgia center from mixing up glasses as a kid in the summertime. There's a bit less sugar here, but it is gently sweetened, tastefully and not overdosed at all. The black tea note is there thankfully, but is toned down, fades quickly, and doesn't project much in the air. I wish the black tea was a punch in the face, that's how much I love it. A whisper of a dry sandalwood (not creamy or buttery) is there in the base. So that's pretty much it, as the notes say....lemon opening, gently sweetened, black tea, and then a ghostly sandalwood. There does seem to be some other aromachemicals in here giving it a "fresh" feel, but it's subtle and nothing about this comes off synthetic. Overall, I like having a travel spray of this because it's pretty refreshing to apply first thing in the morning, and it's nice that it only last a couple hours as I can then apply something later and it's not clashing. Yet it feels almost too simple, and I do wish there was a bit more complexity, or the sandalwood and tea were cranked just a bit. I may try to layer a dash of Miller Et Bertaux Santal Study under this and see what comes... This could be perfect though for fans of minimal and polite fragrances who want a gentle and refreshing mostly realistic tea. The low performance could be fixed with overspraying potentially, but I'm happy with 1-2 sprays in the morning and don't really need this to last a whole work day or grab attention. This may not be a hall of famer or revelation, but I do think it's quite nice, pleasant, and unlikely to offend and completely gender neutral. Overall vibes are that of an easy conversation on a wraparound porch, boutique hotel, or nice breeze in your shirt on a summer day.

I'm sensitive to the "lemon cleaner" smell in perfumes. At one point I was obsessed with finding the perfect rose scent and I'd immediately discard any sample with too strong of a lemon cleaner top note. I disagree with reviewers that liken "Assam of India" to anything resembling lemon scented cleaners. Not at all. There is a well blended, citrus oil undercurrent, much like you'd smell in a cup of tea with lemon. It's that mild and integrated. This is a gorgeous perfume. It's truly evocative of tea plantations in Assam, which I've had the pleasure of visiting It's natural, but still "perfume-y" in it's abstraction of the concept. Also, this is a unique perfume. It doesn't smell like the usual offerings at Sephora or department stores. It puts me in a good mood, but in a quiet, meditative way. In "Assam of India" I smell a perfume version of the highest quality black tea with lemon, drank in the middle of a tea plantation under a warm sun. Simple, yet brilliant.

Assam of India by Berdoues brings to mind the image of an elegant English lady living in the time of the Raj in India, sitting on her shaded veranda in an attempt to find relief from the sweltering summer heat. At her side is a crystal atomizer filled with a golden liquid redolent of her exotic surroundings which she spritzes about her in sparkling halo. Assam of India has only three notes,lemon, tea and sandalwood, but it is so well crafted that it is NOT the typical citrus fragrance that refreshes exuberantly yet disappears in a fleeting heartbeat! The citrus note is true and bracing, just like a fresh squeezed lemon, with no synthetic, furniture polish odor. The gentle tea note is verdant with an herbaceous clarity that is delicately embraced by the aromatic and sultry sandalwood Very lovely, unisex and original in a way that is rare to find in such a simple concoction. Simply wonderful!

Why does every tea scent I try not smell like tea? I am beginning to think either my body chemistry negates it, or everyone is just pretending that tea is an actual perfume note. If you have ever opened a canister of loose leaf tea, that is tea scent. I have never encountered a fragrance that captures that. Maybe tea in perfumery isn't meant to mimic tea so literally? But this is another fragrance that uses tea as inspiration rather than a derivation. On me, Assam of India is a very bright and fresh lemon fragrance. It is clean and soapy, with a slight astringency that reminds me of a kitchen spray. The sandalwood is backstage and appears more as time passes. However, the overall scent doesn't last long. I agree Assam of India would be great for summer. But I also think YMMV depending on how scents pull on your skin.

This is one of the best freshies I have! I blind bought a travel size and have been reaching for it the most lately out of all my perfumes. It’s definitely an easy reach for me. This is the same as Wu along Cha! At a fraction of the price! I own both and it’s so similar that if you told me you were wearing Wu along Cha but were really wearing Assam of India I’d believe it! Wu Long Cha is a bit more floral in the late drydown. The longevity is also about the same too. About 3ish hours for both. It’s so great I don’t mind overspraying. It immediately puts me in a great mood. I highly recommend if you were thinking about a nice tea scent without breaking the bank. I need to full size this stat! I think it smells absolutely nothing like Arden’s Green Tea. Wow. Not at all. I can’t stand that fragrance.

Recently purchased this fragrance after getting a sample from Fumerie Parfumerie. It is the perfect, elegantly simple scent for hot weather, but it has oddly become my scent to spritz on after a shower at night. Comforting, slightly refreshing but not blaring. Yes, it smells like tea with lemon....a hint of sandalwood which goes away after about 3 hours, but it is a lovely scent nonetheless. Solid recommend.

Tea with lemon, I so looked forward to it. It sounds like something I would be attracted to, something I would like to smell, on me or off me. Unfortunately, I got bursts of lemony household cleaner, maybe dish washing liquid detergent. Or is it time to mop the bathroom floor? I barely smell any tea. No light tea, not to mention stronger teas like red or black, you know, the kind you get in India. Pass.

Bubbly soapy with hints of lemon tea. Bubbly and more bubbles soapy with some hints of tea, and balsamic citrus within. I can sense some slightly humid within as well! maybe the atmosphere! I really don't smell India in here! It's overly soapy rather than spicy as India is known for that spicy unique scent that mingles that part of the world. It's interesting tho.
