Chevalier De La Nuit

Update two years in: It is still amazing, different and so strong. I have now Coromandel and it is the power, more high end version of it if you like simplification. Update after a year with Chevalier: this is one of my favorite scents. So deep, strong, masculine, smooth. This is quite a strong, smooth and sharp scent that might intimidate some with its strength and opening. It is a great take on the "power fougere" genre. I recently got a full bottle as a blind buy and really liking it. The vanilla and eucalyptus are very present from the get go for me but it is in no way a sweet scent. It reminds me of high end ski sunblock but on the sharper, dryer and masculine side. Updating after a full day of wearing it: i love it even more now! The scent has been very constant as well as slowly evolving. The longevity is impressive! It is one of these scents that seems strong, sharp and obvious at first but actually keeps intriguing my nose over the hours, which i like a lot.

This is different from their vintage from the 20s/30s in that the original and 50s reformulation contained ample doses of true oakmoss in all its full glory in the base, alongside a hint of salty ambergris. Both versions are very wearable and a good basic cologne-type scent worn equally well by men and women. Spicy and full, but quite piquant in the opening. The vintage versions tend to age well, but the ylang ylang in the original tend to go a bit "radishy", and some spice in the base heat-warps. The ylang ylang seems to be absent from the modern release. And obviously the change toward synthetics and a pared-down ingredients in the scent. Definitely worth sampling. It's a previously legendary fragrance on par with Old Spice where everyone knew what it was and recognized the smell. FBW if you enjoy deep, full, spicy, warm classics. Very attractive and approachable. It smells like confidence, security, and availability.

For patchouli lovers a must have, very similar to Jovoy Psychedelique. GREAT performace, both logevity and projection. With 5 sprays you fill the room for amazing 10+ hours. 10/10

At a first sniff: well, this is the cold balm I use when I'm sick. So clearly, eucalyptus is super strong and prominent from the start. The scent, however, is more complex than just that. It starts off with sharp spiciness on my skin - I thought pepper at first, but sure, here go the cloves. It warms up as you go, but never becomes sweet or headachy. To me, it's still more of a masculine scent rather than unisex, but I would wear it anytime. It's dry, elegant and sophisticated - but in a "managerial" way, if you get what I mean. This isn't a perfume that would drive you crazy, it's a scent that'll help you to keep your cool. The longevity and silage are incredible, much better than some other Ciro parfums. Also, after loving Maskée for such a long time, I am now convinced that Alexander Streeck is a genius!

This is very good and sophisticated fragrance. Extremely modern version of refined patchouli. Fresh deep, rather dry. Some nuances of dirty greenish patchouli are detectable as well. Vetiver and eucalyptus together emerge and disappear every few minutes. It is like dance of earth born ingredients. In my opinion CDLN is suitable for summer evenings with fiends. Also because it is very happy fragrance. When I’m wearing it I smile.... it works as perfect antidepressant :-). Therefore if you’re looking for summertime happiness in the bottle and fragrances are your passion just go ahead and grab it ASAP.

This is very nice comforting, cozy and luxury smelling parfum. It has strong connection to Coromandel. But this one is more resinous, dense and sweeter. It has a great performance. It starts citrusy , patchouli is present from beginning till end. Flowers are also perceptible. Base has sandalwood. Maybe it is not very original but it is very well made and rich parfum.

Once again, a rather classic reference. Patchouli, soft lemon, qualitative, dry vetiver, pretty vanilla that's not too intoxicating... It's lovely. The evolution really turns to a paper note, a spicy, fragrant paper note, which I find as idiomatic as it is directly charming. The scent of a grandmother, big rings on her hands, of the kind of softness and firmness that comes with age. Perhaps the accord is a little modernized here - all the brand's visual marketing, in any case, seems to want to make a move in that direction. It's nice, then, but I'm not transcended, and it's certainly not a creation I'd remember among a thousand. Maybe I should leave it on display around me and try wearing it, for a change, and confirm this comment or not.

Chevalier de la Nuit started out in a way reminiscent of Amouages Material to settle into being a relatively raspy clone of Coromandel. And I'm not quite sure I like much about it. If I had to guess, I would think it was intended very much a close enough clone of one of Chanel's most well-known fragrances, but it fell short of the elegance Coromandel has by... a long shot. Starting off, I got nothing of any potential citrus top notes at all. Instead, from the get-go, Patchouli dominates CdlN. Accompanied by resinous and balsamic nuances, the opening is a potpourri of raspy, spicy, nose-itching earthy tones with a weird, stale-candy-like quality in the back of it. The same notes I disliked in Material, I found here as well. In addition to that, CdlN had a distinctive 'over-seasoned' quality to it. I had the impression of a sauce with too many ingredients, a cook that has burned their tastebuds away long ago and thus, can only taste when they put too much of everything into their dishes. The opening was probably the most off-putting part of CdlN. Thankfully, this 'too much of everything' impression faded relatively quickly, when the fragrance sheds its resinous and balsamic notes and settled into something Patchouli-first, dry, powdery, spicy and woody. And here, the parallels to Coromandel become very apparent. The same ideas I got from CdlN, I also wrote in my Coromandel review a few months back. Only in Coromandel, I saw nuances and development, where CdlN was, on my skin, a very dry-and-dusted kind of deal. I have no doubts that sampling Coromandel and CdlN side-by-side, I'd find a lot of parallels, but where Coromandel had me feel elegance and refinement, CdlN was mostly just... straightforward. There was little of the Coromandel playfulness. Instead, what I got was a lot of very dry, spiced-up, raspy patchouli dirt. Not 'dirt' in the sense of 'dirty', but 'dirt' in contrast to 'wet soil'. And for four, five hours, that's where CdlN remained. At this point, I believe that, if what you're looking for is a dry, slightly dusty, orris-like Patchouli scent, but Coromandel is either too expensive or just not exactly what you're looking for, CdlN might actually very much be worth sampling. Because for the longest time, the perfume was exactly that. However, for myself, it was just 'Coromandel but somehow less'. And similarly to Coromandel, at the end of its lifetime, CdlN found some vanilla and settled into that in its drydown. However, none of the Coromandel creamyness manifested itself. CdlN stayed true to its dry and dusty nature even here. And that can be good - if it is what you are looking for. Personally, here, too, it was just Coromandel but less of it. Overall, Amouage Materials opening into a very dry and dusty Coromandel clone is what you get in Chevalier de la Nuit. To me, the opening wasn't my thing and the rest just felt like a worse version of Coromandel, but I suppose if Coromandel-but-dry is what you would like, I can see that CdlN might be a thing for you. It wasn't for me. If I would like that scent profile on me, I'd just get the original instead. As things are, Chevalier de la Nuit gives me nothing I would want.

Class elegant long lasting and unique perfume I love it too much especially 10 m sprayed 9/10

Smells like so many other "kind" and gentle scents in the same genre. Nothing special.
