Kuhuyan

I echo many of the sentiments expressed below about this fragrance and Marly in general. They are all pretty excellent fragrances minus a couple just for taste reasons but like any house they do have a style and it seems to tend towards the warm and oriental. I found myself stuck between this, Oajan and Herod (eventually opting for Oajan) because they were all very good. I suspect like with Oajan secrets and extra nuances will be released on further inspection I've no doubt but even without that insight, I instantly fell for Kuhuyan. Helitrope and I don't really get on but this is a delightful blend of an almond/vanillin/suede and woods...probably the best way to describe it. The heart notes are pleasantly floral and slightly powdery violet and base is tonka and warm amber and again...probably oud? This is a true composition with nothing over stepping it's bounds and actually making for quite a tame fragrance. These elements don't spring to mind as being my favourite but undoubtedly work together. Quality is good, longevity is a bit lacking but I'd definitely like to try it again.

Probably my favorite cold weather PDM, and overall one of the best PDM's. Why is this discontinued? It's pretty versatile, even though it's probably best in fall and winter day or night, and I can see it being used in early spring. Great opening and even better dry down, this is unique and satisfying. I'll take this over layton, herod, haltane, oajan, althair, carlisle etc.. Since it's leather and violet people compare it to Fahrenheit, but personally I don't see it, it does it's own thing, and there's a creamy floral aspect (still very masculine) to it that pushes it in a different direction. One of the best smooth leather fragrances I've tried.

One of the best leather fragrances that I have. I think that is better than the hyped Godolphin, for instance. Very complex and unique. The violet leaf in this case is very mild and don't presents the petrol scent. The only thing that is a little bit negative is the performance, which is lower than other Parfums de Marly fragrances. In my skin lasts up to 8 hours (not totally bad, but bellow heavy PDM fragrances like Kuhuyan). In my opinion, this fragrance has an overall score of 4.25 of 5.0. I recommend for its uniqueness.

Masculine, leathery, anamalic, unique, a bit daring. Yes. 12+ hrs on my skin and I like this a lot. My wife doesn't like it, but she prefers simple scents. I wear this one for me. After a few hours the violet leaf becomes the star and hangs out for the duration. I wouldn't pay full price with other offerings available at this price point, only because the limited use... but don't underestimate the beauty and precision with this one. Look for it on sale or used. I have the vintage 2013 bottle.

Woah. This stuff is great! Someone below wrote that it was the best leather-based fragrance he's ever smelled....and I must agree (or at least one of the best)! I think the reason this may not be one of the more popular PDM's is because it takes leather fragrances to a whole new direction, which some people may not be ready for. It's a pleasant, kind leather that shows no offense. The sillage and longevity are both great. Gets me through the entire day and I can still smell it afterwards.

To say that this is unique almost feels like an understatement. With that being said, this is a weird scent. I love it tho. Very unique leather/floral/sweet/animalic mix that just works against all odds. I'm sad to see all these negative responses but completely understand. Many of the PDM frags are very safe for the masses whereas this one is very hit or miss. My older parents really like it but I can understand it not appealing to youth. Got mine for less than $100 from my friend.

This is a beautiful fragrance. I get nothing animalic, so no poopy or pissy oud and ambergris accords here, but a slightly sweet and salty leather with a slight floral accord and hint of nuttiness. It's an elegant and soft fragrance that smells like nothing else I have tried or own, from a house labeled as non-niche and too mass appealing. PDM is full of gems like this one if you take the time to sample and try its small range of fragrances.

After buying Kuhuyan and kalan I’ll never trust reviews on here again this is probably the most classy leather fragrance I’ve ever put my nose to...the negative reviews are from people the most bland people you’ll ever meet those “functional”people who can’t think outside the box and who would very much rather smell basic and generic polo blue type of people IMO 🤷🏾

This is very unique leather fragrance. It's animalic almondy leather with vanilla all the time in the background. You can sense the fine quality used in such fragrance. Performance and projection are easily above average. It might be challenging for some people because it has quite animalic tone in it.

Gentle floral notes, that violet leaf note plus the soft leather facet, mixing a bit animalic but not too much, I couldn’t help noticing the aquatic sides Its remarkable super wearable. Strongly reminds me of, I miss violet by the different co.

I'll keep this one short, went from meh to giving it a good trial. Now I can't get enough of it, very relaxing floral leather, absolutely great and lasts easily 8 hours close to the skin. One I wear for me. 9/10

IMHO this is the best leather scent I have ever encountered ,soft, fresh and mesmerizing scent that makes you feel like a prince .

Leather animalic and white flowers.... I like much but the longevity is no good 4-5 hours

Today we're looking at Parfums De Marly's Kuhuyan; a fragrance in PDM's middle-eastern inspired collection. Yesterday I reviewed Hamdani, another fragrance from the same collection, and was utterly disappointed. Everything about the fragrance from the scent to the performance was a total letdown. I'm hoping that Kuhuyan can resurrect my faith in this particular collection. Let's get into it; Scent: The opening is sweet, animalic, and ozonic. The primary notes I get are leather, violet leaf, heliotrope, and jasmine. The strongest of the notes are the violet leaf and heliotrope. The violet leaf is instantly recognizable with its usual ozonic, cucumber/gasoline accord. It is reminiscent of the violet leaf used in Dior Fahrenheit, but not nearly as loud or "gasoline-y". The heliotrope settles directly underneath the violet leaf with a distinct almond/vanilla tone. It doesn't come across as floral, but it's much lighter than a standard vanilla or almond note. This is followed by the leather and jasmine. The jasmine note brings a well-defined white floral accord to the opening with the distinguished indolic and animalic qualities that jasmine is known for. Lastly, the leather lingers in the background as a distant, animalic bite. The dry down is sweet, powdery, and woody. The primary notes I get are tonka bean, oud, heliotrope, and ambergris. The strongest of the notes are the heliotrope and tonka bean. The heliotrope still has the same almond/vanilla tone from the opening, just mellowed out a bit. Meanwhile, the tonka bean has emerged as a powdery and sweet accord that boosts the sweetness of the dry down even further. This is followed by the oud and ambergris. The oud confers a distinct woodiness. It's not funky or animalic like a lot of oud notes can be, just a dark woodiness that sets a foundation for the other notes to play on. Lastly, the ambergris is detectable as a skin-like warmth in the dry down. It's not so much a standout note on it's own, more of just a modifier to the overall tone of the dry down. Performance: Initial projection in the first hour is very strong, at least 6 feet. Sillage is very strong as well with a heavy scent trail. After a few hours the projection was about 4 feet and the scent trail was still noticeable. The fragrance lasted until about the 6-7 hour mark before becoming a skin scent. When to wear: Kuhuyan is a fall/winter fragrance that has enough versatility to be worn day or night. I would classify this as a special or formal occasion fragrance. It has a certain vibe to it that fits well with buttoned-up attire; so things like weddings, black-tie affairs, or even anniversaries would be suitable occasions to wear this. This isn't a fragrance I would consider office-friendly. I'm having a hard time articulating why, but it just doesn't match the setting. Blind buy: I wouldn't necessarily call this a safe blind buy because not everyone can get behind really ozonic fragrances. However, if you like fragrances like Dior Fahrenheit, and would like something a bit smoother and sweeter, this could be a good fit for you. Final verdict: Kuhuyan was a pleasant wear. I wasn't blown away by it, but I did enjoy wearing it. Ozonic fragrances like Fahrenheit are something I can enjoy, but I can also understand why some people just don't like them. One thing is for sure, it was absolutely a better experience than Hamdani; so I can confidently say the middle-eastern collection isn't all bad. When it comes to performance, it was what I would consider above average; very strong projection and sillage for the first hour, and evaporating off about 6-7 hours later. It wasn't an absolute beast-mode fragrance, but it wasn't weak by any definition. And it was miles ahead of the performance I got from Hamdani. Versatility is so-so. It's definitely a cold weather fragrance, but it has enough versatility to be worn day or night as long as it's a suitable occasion. Mass-appealing is not a descriptor I would use for fragrances like Kuhuyan. Fragrances in this category have groups of people that really enjoy the scent profile just like they have groups of people that hate the scent profile. Most will probably think it's okay, but it's not the type of fragrance that will solicit compliment after compliment from strangers. At the end of the day I think Kuhuyan is a fine fragrance and it will appeal to a certain niche, but it's not something I'd necessarily spend an inflated amount of money on. If I want something ozonic, I'll just reach for my bottle of Fahrenheit. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 6/10 Sillage: 7/10

I am a big fan of the house of Parfums de Marly and Kuhuyan is my fifth perfume from the house. I must say it is not for everyone. Not a love at first smell for me, but give it a minute and you will discover pleasant. Don't blind buy it because I think most people hate it than love it. I simply enjoy this fragrance so much! Kuhuyan is soft and not intense unlike most leather fragrances. The note of Violet leaf, Jasmine and Heliotrope make it very wearable and smooth and even silky at times. It is very different from the other line up from the house, but I would say it is a must try for everyone although most people will have negative comment about it. For me, it is always a pleasure to have it in my collection. I think Kuhuyan is very underrated for a leather fragrance especially when you have Tom Ford Ombre Leather, Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, Bentley For Men Intense and even Godolphin from the same house in the market these days, but Kuhuyan is very different from all those mentioned. I am definitely looking forward for more fragrances like this from the house in the future.

Yeah this is great. Mainly get a fresh ambergris, crisp green violet and a leather backbone. I own Great Britain from Roja and I find Kuhuyan to be an almost fresher version of it, also absent of Iris. Kuhuyan is much greener I should add. I could see myself owning this! Surprised no-one thinks it could be worn in the summer, because I do not find it heavy at all. I wish PDM could make scents like this again but they just keep putting out the overly sweet superamber scents, which is fine, just not what I find interesting in perfumery. Even though I find it unfortunate, this released in 2013 which is 12 years ago from when I am writing this and it is not unusual that a brand has shifted its focus and direction, it just is what it is.

Some of these reviews make this stuff out to be an unwearable boogeyman of oil, smells like a light airy synthetic leather. Can’t really say I’ve smelled something like this although I haven’t tried Fahrenheit yet so maybe it’s close to that but is definitely not like something like Godolphin or Ombre Leather. Can pick out the almond like heliotropin that blends nicely with the leather, definitely not blind buy imo but almost nothing is. Average performance to me about 3-6 hours with a light to moderate if you’re looking for something different this is it, Kuhuyan is one of the more unique Parfums de Marly to me stands out among the brand

I like this. It's pretty much a softer (via heliotrope) version of Fahrenheit with a leather mix on top of it. The jasmine in this is not heavy handed like it is in Pegasus and just gives a mildly "cuir de russie" type of leather feel. Rather synthetic feeling I'd say, but it works. If this was 1/3 the price PdM wants for it I'd buy it.

It’s like wearing a cognac color tailored fit suede jacket dipped in cucumber water, shoulder months office elegance, layers so well with so many summer fresh scents, very different and realistic suede smell, I really enjoy wearing this, it’s a steal if you find under $150, unmistakably niche

This is a nice mild smoky scent which leans to masculine scents. Don't expect vivid oud here because there isn't any. Dominant notes are leather, heliotrope, a mild sour vibe and violet leaf. Performance is moderate overall. It's not a strong scent. Feels better with cold weather.

Isobutyl quinoline sweetened by floral notes, violet esters and coumarin. When the violet leaf accord and the dihydromyrcenol fade, the isobutyl quinoline appears, sweetened by an accord of iris (ionones and irones), heliotropin and coumarin with the addition of a ghost patchouli, deprived of all its full-bodied earthy green fascinating side ( DO NOT dare to use a real patchouli in 2023, you have to use a chemical one like akigalawood because it could offend the modern nose who would consider it "out of fashion" - ...if i could speak..) There are 3 types of "leather" in perfumery: -Russian leather, made with rectified birch tar (now banned by IFRA, only 0.2% of the final product allowed) -Spanish leather, made with castoreum and floral notes -modern leather, made with chemical mess ( this fragrance takes part in this category ) Modern leather fragrance that smells of the cosmic nothing, like all modern “fragrances”. This has a similar central accord of Fahrenheit Absolute, without the resins but if i have to choose, i would pick the Dior, it is a 100000 more times better built fragrance, and not this mess.

Very soft and delicate scent reminding of an expensive aroma of some luxury makeup products. It's a surprise that it belongs to the men's range. More than unisex, I would say. Stays close to skin, not a sillage and longevity beast.

A substance that is not introduced in the notes of perfume is Iris; While from the beginning of spraying, the smell of iris can be felt on its own. A powdery notes also is detectable so clearly too. After half an hour, the smell of perfume becomes similar to Dior Homme intense perfume. In general, it smells more like women's cosmetic powder than an expensive and nich perfume for men!! I really like all the perfumes of this brand; But unfortunately, this is the first perfume of Perfume de Marly that I did not like at all. In general, it is more feminine than manly. ماده ای که در نتهای عطر معرفی نشده؛ زنبق هست. در حالیکه از ابتدای اسپری کردن عطر بوی کاملا محسوس زنبق به تنهایی حس میشه. یک حالت پودری هم عطر داره. این عطر در مجموع بیشتر بویی شبیه به مواد آرایشی زنانه و کرم پودر زنانه میده تا یک عطر نیش و گرون قیمت مردانه بوی عطر بعد از نیم ساعت بسیار شبیه به عطر دیور هوم اینتنس میشه من از تمام عطرهای این برند واقعا خوشم میاد؛ ولی متاسفانه این اولین عطر این برند هست که اصلا خوشم نیومد. در مجموع بیشتر هم زنانه هست تا مردانه

I can't bring mysef to write a full review. On the paper strip in store, this was signature scent worthy and I almost bought a bottle right then and there. I sprayed some on my skin and left with a sample. Several wears later all I have to say is this: I will never buy this. It smells 100% different on flesh as it does on paper. Boring and stale on skin. It loses all projection after 30 minutes to an hour, and leaves a dirty sweaty-waistband-bandaid scent as a dry-down. I couldn't be more disappointed if I tried. Completely vanishes after two to three hours. Ive got 5 or 6 more PDM's to long-term test before I've officially tried the entire catalog of PDM but I don't have high hopes. Safanad and Pegasus are the only ones that last at all. Yes I'm including Herod as a disappointment. The house has projection and longevity issues across the board and for these prices it is just plain unacceptable. Totally overrated house.

بوی گلی در این عطر خیلی نیست ولی بنظرم اولین کار این برند هست که بوی گلی داره. در مجموع خیلی جالب نیست و اولین کار مارلی هست که خوشم نیومده بقیه کارهایش رو خیلی دوست دارم . بوی ساقه ی گلهایی رو میده که در حال خشک شدن هستند. بعد از مدتی هم بویی شبیه لوازم آرایش بوجود میاد. بیشتر هم زنونه هست تا مردانه -------------------------------------------------------- I think that this is the first perfume of marly brand that have floral scent. I like most of the perfumes of this brand, but this one is the second perfume that I didn't like (First one is Pegasus). Kuhuyan have a scent of stems that is converted to be dried! After this scent, it turned to scent of cosmetic product...

A rather dark opening, with the Oud, leather and florals combining into a moderately new and intriguing scent. This disappears within the hour (I'd say half but want to give it some credit) leaving a rather bland floral behind. The dry down you will get to enjoy (or not) for the next two hours before it is barely noticeable. Not worth the money. Overall: 2/5 Scent: Opening 3, drydown 2/5 Longevity: 1.5/5 Projection: 1/5

I have not found a scent of the maison "Parfums de Marly" that make me scream to masterpiece. They are all well groomed, have good ingredients but they resemble one another. Even "Kuhuyan" does not exceed, is nice but I would not spend so much money for it.

There's the violet leaf with that gasoline vibe but not even close to Fahrenheit. There's also a pissy/animalic smell in the top (the indolic jasmine I guess). I would have liked that a lot, but: 1. There's a noticable amount of, first of all, either mint/menthol, eucalyptus, or a specific kind of patchouli. It's a green, icy fresh feeling note. 2. I absolutely hate anise. And I can sense some anise in here. All this mixed gives a bit of a hairspray vibe. The mid and base is full of leathery, warm, animalic ambergris, bitter almond, and a metallic feel. Projects moderately on my skin from the beginning, but lasts 8+h. Winter and autumn, more for a nighttime, but beware. Animalic, menthol, pissy top, lots of leather. Do not blind buy.

I suppose this could be an intense musk for folks that are not really into perfumery. I'm desensitized to this and smell these things in a different way than before I learned to appreciate them. Absolutely delicious. This is very much a middle eastern style scent and likely not going to appeal to westerners. It has a a rich, persistent musk, which is really warmed up intensely by a honeyed layer of tonka. Floating above these are the dueling jasmine and violet notes, at equal volume to eachother. Hidden away, I can perceive the effect of oud, though it's clean and gives the florals that signature middle eastern resinous counterbalance. The whole is very even in that you can pick out the components easily, and it stays linear. It reminds me quite a bit of Alien Musc Mysterieux. To me this smells very feminine, but then again I'm a dude and I wear it, but I do feel like I smell like a woman when I do. A woman with good taste in perfume that is :) For guys that love violet, such as myself, this is one to try if you like Narciso Him but don't like the sort of cucumber vibe it has.

In this, Kuhuyan is soft and dense; the notes of Violet leaf, Jasmine, Leather, Heliotrope, and Oud come through very strong. Kuhuyan is vigorous with the Heliotrope, Jasmine, and Oud. These notes are very apparent as the others are there to give foundation. Kuhuyan is soft, almost baby powdery-like. As in other Parfums de Marly fragrances, usually the Oud stands on center stage as with the other combining notes, however with Kuhuyan the Heliotrope and Jasmine are center stage with the Oud and Leather adding a nice addition. I think this is a nice addition to anyone's wardrobe, however, very different than what this line is known for producing. Believe it or not, this reminds me of a softer version of Amouage Gold Man, from the powderiness due to the Heliotrope and Oud combo. Pass (especially since I have Amouage's Gold Man)!

As someone who was lucky to find cuir de lancome at a bargain, I must say this fragrance does not smell like the lancome leather. Cuir de Lancome is a very feminine leather, like a leather glove taken out from a makeup bag and worn right after washing hands with a 60s soap. It starts off very clean and with an ever so present iris note accompanied by citrus and white florals. After a few minutes the leathery notes of saffron and more of the styrax come through with no animalic smell in the picture EVER. Kuhuyan on the other hand starts off animalic that turns into florals mixed with musk. Nothing clean about it, hence no comparison between the two fragrances.

This was a huge disappointment. I really wanted to like it and was really looking forward to it, especially since I adore Hamdani. Kuhuyan is a pale, timid offering that is considerably more in the European perfume tradition than in the Middle-eastern one. Kuhuyan strikes me as a lighter, leaner version of Cuir Cordoba by Keiko Mecheri, which I find cloying and clumsily coquettish. Yes there is oud and some leather (suede) here, but mainly I pick up floral, sweetish notes that are entirely too modest and insipid. If you want something safe and shy, you're good to go with this. If you want something distinct and bold, move on.

I don't understand the negative comments regarding this fragrance. I find this to be very pleasant, soft, with a light animalic tone. This tone is set by a slight ash/leather combo, which sways this towards the masculine side, though this is definitely a unisex fragrance. Projection may not be to the usual Parfums de Marly level, but it isn't weak by any standard. Overall I would say that this is a highly enjoyable fragrance that would suit cooler days, though it can be worn at any time during the year.

Kuhuyan is one of the worser fragrances I've sampled from this house. The opening boasts a heady, pungent Arabian-esque aroma.That can be described as slightly resinous, woody-spicy presence, with something of an animalic floral overtone to it (such as a female fragrance with a masculine lean to). Great style to center around for a top shelf fragrance, but very poor execution here, as this is a majorly unenjoyable as an obvious parody. - Daughter's dead horse - Stinks lightly - Out all that investment

To put it simply, this is an animalic leather. The other notes are there, like the pleasant violent leaf, although you really have to sniff hard for it. I prefer non-projecting fragrances, so I enjoy it. Of course, it's no GoDolphin (fruity leather) or Ombre Leather(floral leather) which is more special. This is an animalic leather which is more for the mature male. It's nice, but I'd say nice for less than $100 or so. This is only for frigid weather IMO.⭐⭐

Kuhuyan can be divisive depending on the nose. Some people write it off as blah but to me it has that slow‐burn, sexual healing vibe humming underneath. Maybe it’s the floral‐amber‐oud trio that makes certain nostrils twitch for a snack, maybe it’s something else entirely but I’m glad Kuhuyan sits proudly in my collection regardless. A quiet seducer.

Whoever said this doesn’t smell good either has the nose of a child or on crack. This stuff smells elegant and expensive. It’s not your typical, mass appealing pdm and it’s not for children. Only real grown men or women wearing this, perfectly unisex. One of my favorite PDMs ever and it’s one of the most “niche” smelling frags they’ve ever made.

@dmetzger They have likely been reformulated. I bought a new Herod and it didn't last at all. When I checked again, The tester at the store had an older batch number and smelled slightly different too, lasted longer. A couple of people have said the same to me.

For me this is only slightly animalic. I don’t know what most people online are talking about. I smell a bit of leather but mostly vanille and flowers. It’s kind of fresh also. It’s a nice fragrance that I am happy to have in my collection.

Interesting fragrance. You get leather combined with floral notes. Very unusual and deep. Not my cup of tea tbh but i'll give it a solid 9/10
