Let’s forget about both niche and designer categories for a second. We throw the word generic around much too often. Bleu De Chanel was extremely disliked by fragcom when it first released because it was too “generic.” They said it was generic and dated yet 8 years later it inspired many top sellers. Is something truly generic? Or is it just a phrase too over used in fragcom? Layton is in my opinion a brand new take into a masculine sweet fragrance. A borderline gourmand but with a fresh bite. A rich apple note with warm cinnamon with vanilla that’s aggressive, yet inviting. The opening does come off a bit like other openings of designer realms such as bergamot based openings but the scent is far from over. 15 minutes after you’ll start to detect the warm cinnamon and creamy sandalwood. I smell some rose in this somewhere in the heart, but not at all off putting. The apple in Layton is with the fragrance basically throughout the life of it. This is an amazing scent. The snobs will tell you this is generic and not even niche. But ask yourself this, when have you ever smelled something like Layton out there? There are other offerings from the house that indeed smell similar to designer fragrances. You can say Eros, ultra male, boss bottled, but none of those even come close to this creation. Do not pay attention to the niche snobs, you will smell like nobody in everyday life with this. Well done Parfums de Marly, you’ve done what most niche houses are afraid to do. And that’s make a crowd pleasing niche fragrance. Exclusif to my nose is wonderful but I prefer the sweetness of the original. If you’re into a woody or darker fragrance choose exclusif. I get 9+ hours on my skin with 5 hours of projection and a very nice complement getter 9.5/10 this is my favorite offering from the house

I’ve been wearing Layton for many years, and to this day I still think it is one of the best examples of how vanilla, lavender, and apple should be blended in modern perfumery. The lavender adds an elegant aromatic backbone that keeps the fragrance masculine and refined, while the vanilla in the dry down is smooth, warm, and perfectly controlled. Nothing feels too loud or out of place. A lot of fragrances try to combine sweet and fresh elements, but very few manage to create this kind of harmony. Layton feels rich and comforting while still remaining versatile and wearable. It has that rare ability to smell luxurious without trying too hard. I also never experienced the “performance disaster” that people often talk about online. Even with recent batches, the projection and longevity have been more than satisfying on my skin. I think internet discussions sometimes exaggerate reformulation issues to an unrealistic level. Is it possible that older batches were slightly stronger? Maybe. But the current version still performs very well in real-life situations. Another thing I appreciate about Layton is how naturally it evolves throughout the day. The transition from the fruity-aromatic opening into the creamy vanilla-spice dry down feels incredibly smooth. It never becomes harsh, screechy, or cloying. To me, Layton deserves its reputation. Hello good people of Fragrantica, Latest additions to my collection are Haltane and Layton by PDM. Both are insanely beautiful scents. After testing them a few times, I finally pulled the trigger on both. I’ll write a separate review for Haltane, but let’s talk about Layton. The opening is sweet and citrusy with this kind of cinnamon vibe even though it’s not really spicy like that. It’s just super smooth and honestly very addictive. The first half hour to one hour is just amazing (it's amazing man believe me) 😂. As it dries down, it becomes calmer but still keeps that warm sweetness. It’s not gourmand or dessert like, just warm, slightly creamy, and elegant. At one point it actually reminded me a bit of the dry down of La Capitale, which I didn’t expect but really liked. Compliments? Immediate. I sprayed it on before meeting friends and they noticed it right away. One of them liked it so much I sprayed some on him too and he kept smelling himself for hours 😂 He literally said he’s buying a bottle. I’ve known about the Layton hype for years, but I’m the type of person who gets a bit turned off when something is overhyped. It almost becomes annoying. So I stayed away from it for a long time because of that. But eventually I gave in... and I’m glad I did. Performance is strong. I get an easy 8–9 hours on skin. Projection is loud for about 3 hours (fills a room or hallway when you walk through), then it settles down to a solid arm’s length bubble. Layton is just... addictive. That’s the word. It’s classy, mass appealing, but still feels high quality. Both Layton and Haltane are 100% bottles I will repurchase once I finish them. No regrets at all.

Nothing sticks out too much, nothing feels sharp or forced, it just smells refined, cohesive, and quietly luxurious. It has that “expensive but effortless” aura, the kind of scent that doesn’t need to shout to be noticed. It’s not the most original fragrance out there, and it doesn’t try to reinvent anything, but what it does, it does extremely well. Layton sits in that rare space between mass appeal and niche quality—safe enough to wear anywhere, but polished enough to feel special. It’s the kind of scent that gets compliments without trying, the kind you reach for when you want to feel put together without overthinking it. Also, my batch has poor performance so ... I adore Layton This is in the top 3 all time for me It’s in the number one spot in its category, of warm spicy cool weather scents. I traded 3 of my basic but popular designer fragrances from discounters for this 75ml of Layton, myslf edp, Prada carbon, and 50 ml of coral fantasy. I got it from a high school kid who got it for Christmas or something and didn’t care for it, and I gave him some of my redundant fragrances for a prized addition to my collection. Great trade for the both us. By the way, Facebook marketplace is a great place buy/sell/trade fragrances in person, I’ve used it a ton, just be weary of fakes that are on there, if it’s too good of a price to be true, it is, and just don’t even bother with a creed aventus, the most faked of all with 540😂 Back to Layton; this warm spicy apple vanilla aromatic blend of high quality notes, is the single most addictive scent I have ever come across. I recommend this for anything under 55° Fahrenheit, a common line my home state of MN crosses. Wearing it as I type this, I just feel so good about owning it, I feel like the man while wearing it, bringing the top of my hand back for sniffs repeatedly. 10/10 in every category of rating there is, besides price, but life is short, incredibly short, and you should treat yourself to a wonderful product like this here and there, you’ll know where your money went. Thank you Marley for this masterpiece, this scent really shows you the upper echelon of perfumery, you realize why it’s 4x the price, unlike many others at this price range.

Short Version: Layton is an exceptional fragrance that anybody can pull off in nearly any situation. Unless it's outrageously hot outside or you hate Sweet / Vanilla, it's one of the most versatile, unique and signature-scent worthy fragrances you can wear. 10 / 10 Long Version: I did not know that a fragrance like this is so controversial. Unless you just hate vanilla, it's really hard to hate something like this. Layton reminds me a lot like BDC in that you have to try hard to actively dislike it. One thing I will note is that Layton does suffer from nose-blindness similar to BR540. Absolutely do not go more than 3 sprays on this, or your scent cloud is going to be titanic, especially in high heat. I believe Layton will be treated as a modern classic alongside Cool Water, ADG, Aventus, and BDC. The high price tag does make it harder to recommend to most casual fragrance buyers. However, it's so good and versatile, it's worth it to save up and make this your One and Done cologne. One last note, PDM in general is a great Niche House to explore because their fragrances, as everybody says, are high quality with designer intrigue. A lot of niche fragrances tend to be complex and artistic in nature. Layton, and a lot of it's brothers, are approachable and easy to wear.

In my opinion, it smells like an apple with smooth vanilla and a little warm spice. Definitely more clean and classy than sweet, not really a dessert scent. Slight darker edge, but not in a way that makes it hard to wear. Pretty versatile overall, and most people could pull it off. Barely at the level of an office scent. Definitely masculine leaning. Good: Easy to wear. Versatile. Mass appealing, but feels unique. Great performance and lasts long on my skin. Bad: Minty, menthol like opening in a 2025 batch that comes off as harsh. Overall 9/10. ALT dupe felt somewhat better. Didn't feel like the real deal was worth the money, but the scent profile itself is great. Really can't go wrong with it, and I mean that. Try a cheap dupe and see this magic with this thing, there is a reason it is popular. Really too bad my batch has an opening that smells like menthol and vicks. I think that is a common problem, but after letting it sit for a few weeks it improved.

Just got my hands on Layton and I couldn't be happier with the scent profile. It's uplifting, elegant, works very well in basically any occasion in any weather or season except for very hot summer days. It's very easy to wear and a true compliment-getter. My only problem is with the performance, it's not weak but kinda average, projects well for the first 2-3 hours, after that it's fading to a skin scent and completely gone by around 6-7-hour mark. For the price this could be better, but what it lacks in performance it gives back in how well-constructed and high quality the fragrance is. I tested several clones and none of them came close in smoothness and the creamy qualities of the apple, cinnamon and vanilla notes with the woody base. You can find some cheaper options that are reminiscent of Layton, but I couldn't find one that brings this level of sophistication to the table. And for me that justifies the price.

The was my first real “niche”, expensive fragrance. One you just couldn’t go buy at Sephora and also was the fragrance that made me understand the difference between liking a scent and truly connecting with one. From the first wear, it felt refined, smooth and confident without trying too hard, blending a soft sweetness with warmth in a way that feels natural and high quality. What really sets it apart is how balanced and wearable it is. It works during the day, transitions effortlessly into night and never feels loud or synthetic. Emotionally, Layton feels dependable and complete, like a fragrance you could wear anywhere and still feel like yourself and it’s one of the few scents in my collection that genuinely feels like a signature rather than just another bottle on the shelf. Looking forward to buying more from the PDM house!

After sampling a few times, I finally purchased Layton today, and I am so glad I did so in store. The experience I had in store at Harrods was definitely worth paying full retail, and the samples and extras I got more than made up for any price difference you might get buying it online - it was a great way to link a memory to the purchase of Layton. The fragrance itself is beautiful. I love warm spicy fragrances, and Geranium and Lavender (done right) as notes, so when they are blended together so beautifully, it is absolutely my jam. The longevity is really good too, on my skin at least, and I would consider this as a year round fragrance, but I'm in the UK where extreme heat is very rare. PDM is fast becoming my favourite house, I love the DNA, and will be adding a few more over the coming months.

This is my first niche, and probably the most favorite fragrance out of my entire collection. 10/10. Be warned, I am not a fragrance snob, I am simply a consumer. The best way to describe this, once you put it on, you'll understand. It is so, so sexy. It does smell like it is meant for "manlier men", but I think it is still youthful enough. With this on, the best way to describe how you'll smell, is apple cinnamon vanilla cake. Not pie, but cake. You smell very sweet, you smell GOOD for a long, long time, AND you'll get compliments. This is one where the dupe can NOT replicate the OG, trust me, I tried. The dupes smell like s*** in comparison. I get roughly 8 hours out of this on skin, more on clothes. I get so noseblind about this one unfortunately.

For reference I have an 82% batch from 4.5 years ago. Opens up with the menthol/vics smell (just a couple minutes) and then turns into a vanilla/lavender/cardamom masterpiece. I don't get much apple from this but I really don't mind that. I also don't understand any of the comparisons I've seen in other reviews. This smells absolutely NOTHING like Eros, and while Eros isn't bad, for the price this better not smell similar. I'm not sure when this got reformulated but mine lasts 16+ hours on skin with ridiculous projection, on clothes/blankets it lasts for weeks. In all the time I've owned it I've only used about 15-20% of my 125ml bottle because the performance is so good. Fall/Winter staple for me, although I also wear it on spring evenings. 9/10

Didn’t expect it to smell like that, I’ve smelt it before buying it and I didn’t expect much from it because I just smelt it through the opening, but once it dries down it turns into a more vanilla lavender forward scent and leaves that minty Vaporub smell behind. The whole fragrance just feels right to wear as a man in the cold winter. Performance is more than alright, letting me get good sniffs of it for more than 8 hours. Layton by PdM makes you feel a little bit older using it, while someone sensing you from afar would think that it is a youngerish perfume. Parfums de Marly should, like almost every niche brand, improve with its packaging. Picked up 125ml for 260 usd, imo I got a good/normal deal, would buy it again for that amount.

OK. Mine's a 2021 bottle.. (batch 1080379..., 7 digits). Very solid scent. Lasted more than 10 hours. Sillage was pretty good as well. 4-5 hours... Stop with the reformulation bullsh*t already. You guys are way too obsessed with the term "performance" and you experience nose blindless to the scents because you smell them closely every 5 minutes. This fragrance has similar molecules to Baccarat Rogue 540, so it causes nose fatigue immediately after the first smell. That's why people think every batch, decant, size, etc. smell differently. Go ahead and scroll down 500 reviews and read the first reviews from 2016, 2017, 2018... The same type of complaints from the same type of people. Lol. No worries guys, Layton is still legit... Enjoy!

I love it, people love it on me when I wear it (IN DECANTS), but I can't justify buying a full bottle as I am not a human money tree and there are other options that kind of do the same thing Layton does. Layton smells amazing, but it is grossly overpriced for a fragrance that kind of carries a similar DNA to your run of the mill designer "mature freshies" like YSL Y and BDC. Don't get me wrong: Layton is a VERY beautiful scent. I really like what PDM makes, but I simply cannot recommend Layton when alternatives exist that serve the same purpose. If you have the money for a full bottle and want the superior BDC that may or may not "wow" more people: good for you, buy it! If you are just a normal person, maybe don't.

The opening does smells like vick vapourub, in fact, if you smell the atomizer, you wont imagine what comes next. After some minutes it leaves behind this mentol feeling and becomes creamy and sweet which I consider very nice (have to admit it often takes time for me to fully enjoy new scents). In terms of price, I got a 200 ml bottle which makes the cost per mililiter way affordable ($2 usd, almost the average for a good designer fragrance). Scent: 9.5/10 Very likeable, sweet well balanced, pleasurable Longevity: 9.5/10 Did not dissapoint me. 10+ hrs Sillage: 8.5/10 Apparently good. Need to try it more Overall: 9.5/10 Affordable for a niche, easy to wear, my girl really liked it One word to describe: TREASURE
