#1595 in my "Tour de Fragrance" A snowy day here in Cackalacky, so a perfect day to sit in my office and try out a fragrance. Nisean is one of the few Parfums de Marley scents I've yet to try out. Got this as a decant probably two years ago, and just getting to it. Any sane person would try before buying a $350 scent. I note there are a couple of sites I've never heard of offering "Nisean" at the laughable price of $128 for 4.2 ounces. They are certainly counterfeits. You can't check the packaging from a webpage so be warned. On to this scent. Absolutely fabulous! So, of course, they discontinued it. Similar incensy vibe as Amouage "Jubilation Man XXV." This is the 18th PDM scent I've tried and all but three were fabulous, and those three were okay scents, just mediocre performers. No one should spend $350 and get mediocre performance. The perfumers working for PDM are certainly masters of the craft, and Nathalie Gracia-Cetto is a warrior princess among them. JPG "Le Male Le Parfum" and "Scandal Pour Homme", Rochas "Moustache EDP", you could spend a page listing her triumphs. A couple of years anon I girded my loins and bought six PDM scents for myself, a few for women who matter to me, but sadly Maison Alhambra came out two years later with a line of freakishly exact clones at a tenth the price. Se la guerre. As far as I'm aware they haven't done a clone of this one yet, but they should. This scent opens confidently with good projection of olibanum and saffron leading the way. I get a hint of woodiness, a hint of geranium and citrus, and some rose, but not enough rose to remind me of my grandma, which is just how I like it. Long lasting, strong projecting. Carpool, elevator and small office safe. Appropriate business or date wear. Signature scent worthy. BUT, I don't think this is a better scent than Amouage "Jubilation Man XXV", which goes for $100 less, and not different enough to justify the expense of owning both, even if you could find Nisean at original price and not tripled by some eBay scalper. Even if you found the Amouage on sale for under $200, I would tell you to buy Paris Corner's "Killer Oud Jubilant", an amazing clone of "Jubilation Man" that will only run you about $35. But if Maison Alhambra comes out with a clone of Nisean, I'm in line. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

I haven't encountered too many fragrances like Nisean. It's undoubtedly masculine; dry, woody, clean and in no ways childish or trendy. There's nothing remotely sweet about it. At the same time it's not a throwback to a bygone era of masculine powerhouses and it doesn't smell like aftershave either. It's not aggressive or sharp, but it's not soft either. It's not cozy or gentle, but it's not unfriendly. In fact there's something very warm and human about it. It's kind of fatherly. The dry patchouli which maintains Nisean's aromatic quality is a very clean patchouli, with a subtle spice. It's classy, and doesn't come anywhere near "hippie patchouli." It's a very different breed. The woody backbone is firm, and not completely identifiable as any one type, though it smells like some kind of classic wooden furniture, well-maintained and passed down for a few generations. It reminds me of oak. And there's a light, pleasant leather aroma that mixes with the woods and patchouli; it's nothing fancy or in your face, it's subtle. Overall, Nisean is pretty simple. I really like this about it! Maybe it reminds me of a dialed-down Derby. It's not trying to do too much and as a result it does just what it should. I imagine Nisean worn with a clean flannel shirt and jeans, though it would also work with a suit and tie. Performance is good with great longevity and appropriate projection. Thumbs up. This one surprised me. At first I shrugged it off but the longer I wore it, the more I liked it. I'd give Nisean a very solid 8/10.

I feel like Nisean passed me by amidst what's been a flurry of recent releases from Parfums de Marly in the last few years, and it tends to be overshadowed by Layton (and Exclusif) and Carlisle as the standout releases in the time since Nisean dropped in 2016. Nisean is, however, very rich, in my opinion, a sort of patchouli/incense dark wintery blend that's spicy, smoky, and a wee bit resinous without being sweet. It feels inherently masculine to me based on the scent profile, which does describe too many specific notes except for saffron and patchouli. And it does have vaguely woody feel to it throughout its life but especially in the dry down, during which the spicy aspects diminish a bit and the whole blend becomes a bit more understated. It's a great performer and is modestly priced ($320 for 125ml retail, comparable to others, but only $135 on FragranceNet, and $116 for a tester, even) via the secondary market, where other fragrances in the line tend to be priced a bit higher. Overall Nisean strikes me as both underrated and underdiscussed in light of its quality, agreeability, performance, and current grey market price, all of which are a formula for what could almost serve as a men's winter nighttime signature fragrance, especially for formal occasions. 8 out of 10

This was the most random discovery 2 years ago. I was searching for Oajan which was heavily sold out at the time and I stumbled upon Nisean. I saw the notes and said, "you know what? F*** it." BEST BLIND BUY EVER. This became my favorite PDM (I even got a backup bottle 💀😂) Initial spray is polarizing with a sharp peppery note and then it leans into this oriental, spicy, soil-like smell. Very masculine 💪🏿and sophisticated. Perfect for icy or cold days. Definitely prefer this dressed up 🤵🏿 but I wear it around the house often. This will definitely last all day ESPECIALLY on your clothes. I bought the 125ml on sale for $209 after tax. It's not worth retail when other brands have a similar DNA available for less. However, this is in my Top 5 autumn🍁/winter ❄️fragrances. Scent: 10/10 Performance: 9/10 Value: 6/10 Overall: 25/30

Very balsamic, spicy and woody. This is one of the most masculine fragrances I have. There a very prominent Oud accord in the dry down. It’s a very intense and spicy scent profile. Nisean is a refined beast. It retains this animalic character but in a clean and gentleman frame. I love it but I think it has to be paired with a certain character, a gentleman over 35, dusky skin, wears all black sharkskin, slightly dimmed shades, completely non-chalant entrepreneur who doesn’t try hard. Someone who works in a very masculine field like car mechanics or construction and he made it to the top. He lives life by his own terms and everyone fits into his frame. He is a man of his principles. There isn’t a hint of sweetness in this which lends a stern character. Sample before you buy but I love it.

Very early in my fragrance journey, I got hooked on Parfums de Marly. I had bought a few of the popular ones, but I wanted something different. Enter Nisean. I decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise! It flies under the radar with PDMs, but it’s a wonderful fragrance. While it doesn’t have the tobacco goodness of Herod, the freshness of Pegasus, the creaminess of Carlisle, or the indulgence of Layton, Nisean provides a strong but pleasant (and masculine) scent. It will offend no one, but it will add a touch of class and maturity to a man. Professional, strong, easily liked, and probably not being worn by anyone else in your vicinity - that’s Nisean. A great and unique addition to my collection.

Not sure why Fragrantica shows those notes, here are the notes printed on the bottle: Top Notes- Pink Peppercorn, Lime, Grapefruit Heart Notes- Rose, Geranium, Saffron, Pepperwood Basenotes- Cedar, Patchouli, Labdanum, Amber First impressions are maybe not 100% what i expected, but really nice dry amber with some florals here and there. I definitely notice the rose and grapefruit also, which could bring it more towards the unisex, but perhaps still for the daring woman as it is still mainly ambery-woods. Personally would have liked to see more pepper and more pronounced patchouli, but maybe thats just my skin. Dry down reminds of Guerlain Songe des Bois D'ete

it's exactly the scent that i've love for all my life. the best mix of woody and greeny notes that make something beyond gentle, classic, musculin, soft and last forever(2 days even after two shower).i really love marly horses. 9/10 دقیقا بویی که سالهاست دنبالشم ولی پیداش نمی کنم. اصلا توقع نداشتم این بو رو تو یه عطر کاملا مهجور و ناشناس که هیچ صدایی ازش در نیومده پیدا کنم. یه بوی چوبی و سبز که بسیار باکلاس و مردانه و بی آزار است و به راحتی روی دستم 2 روز دووم آورد به طوری بعد از حتی دو بار حمام هنوز حسش می کنم. واقعا برند مارلی بی نظیرترین برند عطره.تمام عطراش از کیفیت بالا و بوی خاص و ماندگار برخوردارند.

I loved this from the first spray. It’s creamy (nutty almost) spicy, smooth and rich. The opening is like cardamon, pistachio and mint ice cream. It’s like Imperial Leather soap but with heavy Middle Eastern spices. I reminds me of cross between Aesop’s ‘Marrakesh Intense’ with SJP’s ‘Stash’ (but obviously done a whole lot better). I almost bought a full bottle right there and then, but I’m pleased I wasn’t so impulsive - after the salacious soapy creamy opening, it’s the spices that remain and it didn’t delight me as much. It’s passably unisex and with great strength of character and longevity.

I haven't worn this one for a dog's age despite loving it when I wore it all the time 2 years ago. It is like Jubilation XXV but without the incense. I always get compliments when I wear it; one woman actually bought a bottle of the stuff after smelling it on me and asking where I got it. My partner (who does not like fragrance as a general rule) complimented me on this one today. It is totally unisex, professional, subtle enough to be classy in certain office settings, yet original enough that it leaves an impression. Too bad it's been discontinued. Would recommend highly.

For years Nisean has been overlooked by the fragrance community. It's not the loudest PdM fragrance, but it's definitely well made. You get aromatic saffron and gentle rose in the beginning. After a while earthy patchouli and thick resins start to take center stage, and every now and then, you get a hint of incense. It's not a complex fragrance but each individual note does their thing really well. Do not sleep on this! If you are looking for a masculine, spicy, oriental fragrance with sweet woods and classic patchouli, do yourself a favor and sample this now!

bring this back! LE: managed to get my hands on one. having it and samples of jubilation xxv / new york intense , i can see they are not similar at all. i prefer nisean. though i do not like rose in fragrances, the rose here is laid back and it it works perfectly in combination with the rest , in fact, oddly enough , its what makes me love this more than the other two unfortunately this does not last long om my skin. project for 1-1.5 hours and after that very VERY close to the skin for a few more. jubilation xxv / new york intense are way better performers!

Wearing Nisean today was an unexpectedly delightful experience. Even though it’s often considered more of a autumn/winter fragrance, I found its spicy, woody and amber rich depth worked surprisingly well in an air conditioned office environment. It’s a scent that doesn’t shout but it speaks in a calm, confident tone. Refined rather than loud, elegant without being showy. If you are someone who appreciates a sophisticated, incense, oriental spicy fragrance with real character, Nisean is definitely worth trying even outside the colder months.

So glad I picked this up while I could still find it under $200, shame it's been discontinued. Sweet spice hits my nose first, smooth transition and becomes creamier. The right amount and use of patchouli. This is a very classy frag for a mature man, doubt it will be high on the list for one under thirty. This filled an interesting spot in my eleven bottle PdM line up, love it. Even bought a back up. Will be in my line up thru spring, then probably put it away until fall.

The performance in this is amazing. I usually get 2-4 hours at best from a fragrance, this has been on (just 2 sprays to my hand to test) for over 12 hours, lasted through a shower, 4 hand washes and sleep and I've just woken up and can clearly smell my hand from a distance. It smells amazing too, very clean, very masculine, slightly spicy, this is such a comforting smell, I think it's probably best suited for 40+ but I'm loving it

I think Nisean is incredibly underrated in the PDM world. Beautiful sweet/fruity/peppery/floral opening and the skin maturation also evolves nicely with some of the patchouli/incense coming through, but not in an overpowering way. Great fall/winter scent but I think a couple sprays on a spring or summer evening would be fine as well. Probably top 5 for me in the PDM house.

I bought a sample of this & fell in love. Such a great fresh scent. I don’t know the notes but maybe this is the first quality patchouli I’ve ever smelt? I don’t know what I’m smelling to be honest but I freaking love it. If anyone can explain what I’m smelling & give comparable fragrances I’d greatly appreciate it!

Why does no one compared this to Duro by Nasomatto? There is a very close similarity between PDM Nisean and Nasomatto Duro. Duro is potent and powerful, Nisean is mild and melow. But very similar. Love them both, Own Duro, Samples of Nisean. - Depending on what you want either one should be good in your closet.

This is a very dry woody, slightly warm patchouli. Its a beautiful fragrance. Very masculine, but not rough. A great day or night scent. Perfect for spring. When the temps hover between the 60's - low 80's, this fragrance would be perfect. I hate to say it, but it reminds me of Mugler Pure Wood.

This is definitely a gorgeous patchouli for me. It's a really beautiful patchouli - just the way I like it: not very sweet, but a little spicy and very dry and smooth, and the wood is lovely. I really like the simplicity of this, and it suits my skin perfectly well. 10/10. I love it.

This one is a stunning scent. Classic PDM uniqueness. PDM will always create something that smells like nothing else on the market. This is why I love the house. Nissan combines masculine floral with patchouli and saffron and dries to a nice easy cedar. stunning frag! PDF stunner.

Good patchouly balsamic, spicy and leathery, a feel good scent. Good for your free time, office scent, a night out with your Girlfirend. Great duration and soft sillage, a mix between Guerlain Derby and Gucci PH mark I. I like Marly , so far never they never shot a blank!

Immediately reminded of Jubilation XXV without even seeing that comparison prior. This is fluffier though and less mature. More western modern. Definitely less middle eastern smelling than Jubilation. Beautiful composition. I love it

When i first saw the notes, i didn't expect anything unique. However after i sampled it, i was like i never smelled something like that. It is warm spicy patchouli with some smokyness and light sweetness from the labdanum. 10/10.

People must be gatekeeping this, hands down the best PDM fragrance out there? Althair?? Layton?? Over this masterpiece? People must have weird noses of thats the case or they just havnt put their nose on this.

First wear; 1.5 hours on This is my kinda thing. I get Patchouli, woods and INCENSE!! How are folks not talking about the incense here??? I feel like it's very faintly pushing on some Amber but we'll see.

This is my blind buy for my other Malry bottles. A strange start with a very pleasant woody scent. It is not masculine for sure. But I like his simple fragrance. Good duration and soft sillage.

I'm a snob. There I said it. But here's the thing - I spent many years searching the limited small-town perfume counters available to me, searching for something I would like. I had some Burberry's from the drug store discount rack that I found OK, but I knew something was out there and I just kept looking. The first "aha" moment was finding Varvatos Vintage. Finally here was something I really loved, and I wore that stuff for years. Then some stores opened near me with niche and luxury lines and I finally found the world I'd been seeking for so long. So yes, I'm a snob, but not from a moralistic need to dictate what brands/customers should or shouldn't do. It's in my nose. I love the niche stuff, and the mainstream scents just aren't appealing to me and never have been. So I admit it. PdM - not for me. Creed, Bond no. 9, the universe of Aventus-clones and Terre d'Hermes-alikes, meh. At this point, you're either nodding in complicit snobbery, or gritting your teeth and shaking your head. So if you're still with me, of the half-dozen or so PdM's I've tried, Nisean is the only one I enjoy. It starts with an earthy patchouli that reminds me of Kilian's Straight to Heaven, plus a lot of burnt sugar sweetness. Over time, the earthiness dies away and the sweetness ramps up, and it starts to smell just like a luxury version of Varvatos' Dark Rebel Rider - brown sugar and leather enriched with woods and resins. A lot of the richness comes from the olibanum/labdanum/saffron accord which places this in a similar territory to fragrances from Amouage, Xerjoff, Initio and the like. However it also suffers from Dark Rebel Rider's lack of sillage - despite a few heavy sprays, I need to bury my nose against my wrist to smell these good rich notes at all. There is however a powerful aromachemical base that projects and gets very cloying in the late drydown, so people will know you’re wearing something, but they won’t be getting the good parts. So I admit it, shouting out over the cognitive dissonance, I like this. But also - I think there are better options at almost any price point.

So, the first PdM fragrance I've tested has actually been quite a surprise. My impression from notes and reviews was that PdM was kind of a "bro" line, mostly appropriate for clubbing with fruity sweet and loud perfumes. Hence, Nisean has taken me a little off guard as it is balsamic with incense and dry but still slightly earthy yet fruity, probably from the patchouli. I must admit I also find it quite hard to place in terms of other fragrance comparisons. The composition of notes is very well blended. It leans distinctly masculine and IMO there's nothing unisex over it. I'm not sure about the notes listed here (WTH is "precious woods" ?!), the official notes list Akigalawood, guaiac wood, amyris wood and cedar. Apart from florals and woods, the most protruding notes to me are incense, saffron, and leather. Overall it is quite unique, rich, spicy and woody with a middle eastern feel. The longevity is more than solid and due to the incense I find it to be most fitting at cooler temps. This composition makes me even more excited to try out Nathalie Gracia-Cetto's new offering from CdG, Yoyogi.

This was a blind buy.. I bought for its supposedly similarity to Zadig & Voltaire this is him. Similarities with z&v and Jubilation XXV are misleading. For example, To my nose Nisean and z&v are only neighbors due to the patchouli note, but nothing else. Z&V is a beautiful sweet and creamy patchouli, nisean is a bomb of dirty patchouli, almost mentholated, that softens...becomes cleaner in the dry down. As it continues to dry down I get some woods, spices and amber in the back, but the star is through and through the patchouli. It has almost no sweetness. It has a great performance, projects heavily for 3 hrs, and I can still smell it on my skin the following day. It’s a strong, masculine scent, not bad, but I won’t call this a crowd pleaser, unlike Z&V ❤️. Test before you buy, and go easy on the trigger.

Pink Pepper ✔️ Grapefruit ✔️ Saffron ✔️ Patchouli ✔️ The initial blast is very balsamic, and it stays that way for about 20 mins. Once it lays down.....that’s when you can really get a handle on what this is. It’s a creamy patchouli that has great staying power that does not over intoxicate a room. I think the florals listed here help with the “creaminess” of the patchouli. I like it a lot. A sleeper from PDM

Just tried it from a sample I bought online. It opens with lots of incense, then it quickly fades to a scent that reminds me bubble soap (when you smell it from bubble soap bottle). It's been 1h since I sprayed on my skin it and I can't smell anything anymore. Pass.

Nisean is a nice fragrance with moderate longevity and sillage. Sandalwood (?) and amber are the star here and this warm sweet woody base is prominent all through, very nice all year round and all occasions fragrance, smooth and addicting.

Pleasant woody/spicy fragrance. The opening is especially nice. The main drawback is its performance. While labeled an EDP, it projects more like an EDT, which is unfortunate given how nice this smells.

Smells like the sauna in a hotel - 90% wood resin. Fortunately it's not that generic fake pencil shavings cedar that everybody else has when they say "Woody notes". I like it.

Masculine dry incense/patchouli. Well made and long lasting. While Herod and Layton grab the headlines, Nisean slips under the radar.

A very interesting blend of dry woods, resinous spices, and frankincense. It recalls a less challenging Amouage fragrance.

The only one from PDM that I liked and actually smells like niche and not like a designer like the rest from PDM

First spray got the incense, woody notes, saffron & patchouli. Very masculine, manly, dark
