Sultan Rouge

Glad this is finally in the database, I got this as blind buy from an online seller in France, because I have Sultan Noir, and many other Pascal M. frags, and they are all interesting. I was not even thinking about it being similiar to or a clone of BR540. As I started testing it however, I realized it shared almost all the notes with BR. It also shares all the same performance characteristics that people talk about with BR... the slightly medicinal smell, being anosmic to it closeup, the lovely scent you get from a distance, very good performance etc... Kudos to Pascal Morabito for an awesome perfume. I had thought that that Sultan Rouge was a clone of BR. Now however, since Sultan Rouge is in the database, I just learned that this came out in 2000, a full 15 years before BR540 ! So... is it possible BR is a clone of, or at the very least inspired by Sultan Rouge..... Hmmm... Anyway, this is a wonderful perfume. It is aimed at women, and it definitely leans feminine, but a confident man can easily wear it (just like BR) especially in the right setting. To me it is a woody, floral, amber scent, with some fruity vanillic notes. performance is good, I get 5 hours easily. but, just like many have stated about BR, up close I really have difficulty smelling it. However, at arms length I get the most beautiful whiffs of scent. This is well worth a blind buy, especially if you are looking for a budget friendly BR alternative.

Amazing. It does everything for me that I wanted from BR540 but without that stomach-turning cheesy/funky note that makes BR a strong no-go for me. Pretty potent too, only need a few sprays and you're good to go.

On my skin, it opens very sweet with a very strong rose (not listed in the notes) and probably ambergris or saffron (sorry, I'm not good with detecting notes). I don't detect any chlorine, thank God! The drydown is very similar to Baccarat Rouge (of which I am not fond of). Overall, it is very pleasant and interesting. Longevity is about 3-4 hours on my skin, while initial projection is quite impressive as it packs a jammy rose punch. Sultan Rouge was launched in 2000 while BR540 in 2015, so it's not a question of Sultan Rouge being a clone of BR540. It has a slight resemblance to Rose Gourmand from Zara, but that one is very close to Montale's Intense Cafe. I recently ordered 2 perfumes from Pascal Morabito (Sultan Or and Sultan Rouge). They are beautiful fragrances but they do not excell compared to the best scents from power houses such as Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, Givenchy, YSL and the like. But they are real bargains (around 12 euro) and perform quite well for their price.

To my nose the dry down is somewhat similar to BR540 without the burnt sugar smell but it is just in the air if you smell is directly on you skin it may be perceived as rose. It's a nice scent, dont get any chlorine. Performance is okay, I have received it today so I will let is macerate to observe its full potential. But please don’t buy it as a dupe of BR540, you will be disappointed.

@VeroMikaela On another makeup/cosmetic site, the year 2000 was listed as its launching date. It is possible that it has been reformulated in 2021.

Like others have said this has a vibe of Rose/chlorine Mixed together. I Don’t really get the saffron much. It gives I just went swimming vibe, and sprayed a rosey/BR540 bad dupe, perfume straight after. A very odd combination I can’t just get with it. Bottom line: Is this a BR540 dupe? Definitely not!!!

Dissapointed. I detected rose, chlorine, cedar and ambergris. I like saffron, but here it's just distasteful chlorine. Pass.

Blind buy. Leans more masculine to my nose: spicy, woods, leather are prominent, just as it gets too strong, it's balanced by the white florals. Totally love it. Purchased because of all the social influencer hype around BR540, which I've never smelled. I steer clear of the "popular table" but was curious so scored this for €10 and I LOVE it. It's soft, subtle, intimate. it's giving me a powdery tea quality to my nose, which I love typically. This works like a musk: it marries your chemistry. My husband likes it as well. I will def layer it with other things in my collection. The bottle looks lovely on my shelf. A happy surprise edition to diversify my scents.

Correction needed: Sultan Rouge is launched in 2021 according to the official PM website. Fragrantica should correct the registration data for this fragrance.

On the skin I can strongly detect the chlorine. Its like you spray rose-y perfume straight away after swimming.

Very similar to Baccarat Rouge EDP, especially in the dry down. Performance is good, price even better.

Just got it and I'm hooked. Such an interesting and unusual scent. Love it!
