Paul Smith Extreme Man

Throwback to this Paul Smith modern classic. I was in my 20's when I got my first bottle, which was around 2007. It was a 30ml, I liked it that much I went and bought a 100ml around 2008. That 100ml bottle I still have roughly 20% remaining (it would've been gone if I didn't have such a huge collection), and I have to say the performance I get from this fragrance is very different to a lot of the current reviews, so I'm not sure if older batches are of better concentration. It has a lovely citrusy and warm spice smell to it and two sprays last me some few hours. I always get compliments from friends and family when I wear this, so it's a no brainer for me, especially given the budget amount it costs to buy! This is part of my Summer/Evening collection. 8/10

for me this is an excellent casual non offensive scent, with distinctive woody accents, bit of spice, pepper maybe, i have great memories when i first wore it, maybe this made it special to me .. anyways, althought quite synthetic smelling, it`s very balanced ... shorter longevity and small to medium sillage ... casual and suitable to work / office ... always having 100ml bottle supply for me ... very cheap .. can be worn in cold weather aswell imho ...

What a great fragrance. Puts a smile on your face on every occasion. It has the joy of a nice spring day when you are walking on green grass in a park with birds singing, sun shining above and dogs and squirrels running around. This is the scent for those times. No matter how much you apply it never gets cloying. Very fresh, semi sweet, peppery, legendary scent. Thanks Paul Smith. note: sillage and longevity are average

I love this scent on my boyfriend. I agree with guyspfld about the spice and the citrus. I like it when my boyfriend wears this scent in the summer. It makes me feel summery and I think he likes it too ;-)

Basic, simple fragrance that I keep for equally simple occasions. Lasts a very average amount of time but good value at its current price. Zesty with a spicy hint.

Fragrance in three words: Sweet Herbal Geraniums This was my signature scent around 2010 after progressing from Paul Smith Men (2000). It took me some getting used to as I found this quite feminine by comparison. What I though was a massive rose note is actually geranium. It's a herbal geranium and compliments the woody base really well. The top notes are sweet citrus and cardamom and similar to most maculines of that era: Prada Amber (2006), Burberry Brit (2004). This part is very short lived on skin. A herbal woody scent with light smoke and bursts of geranium dominate. Sillage and longevity are both moderate. The fragrance lasted around 5 hours on skin after 2+ sprays. Value: As of 2021 UK prices are 100ml £41 and 50ml is £28. This fragrance is often discounted to around half the RRP price. I bought my 50ml bottle for around £14. Overall: A top value fragrance which doesn't break the mould. Performance wise it is what you expect for the price. It's versatile and smells different to most modern men's fragrances due to it not being a vanilla and benzoin bomb. There are fragrances that do woods better at a similar price point Gucci Guilty Absolute pour Homme (2017) and better masculine floral fragrances like Joop! Homme (1989). SPICY FRESHNESS _______________________________________________________ I've very often been disappointed by Paul Smith fragrances, but 'Paul Smith EXTREME for Men' is less than a disappointment, but more of a culinary experiment. This fragrance is very green and very fresh. From the beginning a fresh cucumber bursts into your nose. But it's not only the cucumber, to me there is some dill or chilli in that burst. Whatever it might be, it feels somewhat spicy - because there was a slight burning sensation in my nose. For whatsoever reason it reminded me of pickles. Longetivity: - 5/10 Sillage: - 3/10 All in all: 4 out of 10 points - because it's not as bad as most of the other Paul Smith scents I used to own.

The word "Extreme" has nothing to do with this fragrance whatsoever. Instead, it should be named "Normal". Paul Smith Extreme isn't very strong or invasive to anyone. It's very suitable for office wear or everyday basis. It's the kind of fragrance that I can just wear whenever I don't feel like wearing anything too spectacular; let's say... Hermes or Le Labo. The start can get a little fruity fresh but it will eventually dry down to a crisp and clean peppery woody scent. Tonka bean isn't very sweet here while the rosewood and geranium are the main characters in this composition. Again, this is a very normal fragrance, so don't expect too much from it. You may be disappointed.

Herrera Eau Fraiche for Men. Paul Smith Extreme smells like a fresher version of the classic, & one of my all time favorites, Herrera for Men. It has that same cloves/lavender/tobacco scent & they both share a strong lemon note. However, in Extreme Man, the lemon is the predominant note, making it a fresher & more summery compared to Herrera for Men. The scent of Extreme Man is a woody citrus smell in essence, with a musky spicy hint. This makes it more of a spring fragrance than a true summer fragrance, which are usually less woody & more citrusy/aquatic. Overall, this is an unexpected pleasant little surprise for a Herrera for Men lover like myself. Big like!

If you can imagine a freshly sharpened Ticonderoga number 2 pencil that's been used to stir a martini, you'll get a rough idea of this one. That said, I absolutely love this stuff. Longevity is about five hours on me. Projection is decent. Sillage isn't an attribute to me, as I don't like filling a room with chemtrails. Luckily, it's not big in that department. It reminds me of a late spring nature walk. Woodsy, light floral. I don't get the citrus notes, even though there's definitely some in there. A bit like telling a blind person it's noon, so they know the sun is out. I really love this frag. I give it an 8/10

Most detectable notes for me: Bergamot, Rosemary and Cardamom. Review: I’m a huge fan of Paul Smith clothing, so I thought I’d give this one a go on a blind buy. It’s a citrusy/herbal fresh fragrance which (in contrary to a lot of the comments on here) I find rather unique. Very ‘of its time’ and feels slightly dated but still very unique and wearable. I wore this on my wedding day so always holds a place in my heart. Season: Spring/Summer. Use: Mostly suited for day wear, but the Cardamom means you could wear it in an evening. Informal

Not Bad. The first thing that I noticed was a rush of spice, nutmeg and lemon. I love that trio. You can definitely smell the citrus in this cologne. There's a peppery note in there somewhere as well. It dries down to a lingering musky flowery smell which isn't bad. The longevity and sillage are a little above average. I like the notes in this fragrance, so I will go above average when it comes to this sweet citrus scent. I will always have a bottle of Paul Smith in my arsenal somewhere. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 5.5/10 Sillage: 5.5/10

It definitely smells very 00’s. Powdery and citrus. Somehow I find it attractive ( perhaps memory and sentimentalism are playing tricks with my taste). Nowadays it may go two ways: if oversprayed it will transform you into a teen abusing his first fragrance. Used sparsely it will give you a clean, soapy aura. I sprayed first on my wrist to test it and I have to say that I like it. This is a “extreme” compared to Ck One or perhaps a Kenzo aquatic perfume, but by no means it’s a 1Million or Joop!

im dissapointed with the performance. not lasts for more than 2 hours. 1st couple of spray, it do radiance well but half and hour after that its all dissapear. i will not buy this again. -after several days of experiments attemp, this perfume can resist hot sunny and sweaty. u need to direct spray and over spray it to around ur neck, arms and chest. its not leave the smells on ur skins but its on ur cloth. try it... i need to finish this 100ml asap then buy other frag-

This fragrance is good if your 16, it reminds me of lemon sherbet... a little too tangy, the dry down is nice as the smell matures. Extremely cheap cologne but all in all value for money, worth having a bottle just based on the price. I would be interested to see if there was an Intense version of this (maybe there is I don't know) take out some of that lemon on the top and add a bit more wood at the base, give it a heavier smell rather than a tangy peak.

The citric blast opening was instant no for me, but I can't help but know, in disappointment, that without it, I would have bought this scent on the spot, especially since it was reduced to clear. I also know from experience that I would have regret it :-/ This is a very odd smell that I swore was riddled with patchouli, it has a peculiar green, woody smell I can't get past. If you can get past the horrid, citric opening, try it.

Safe for work but also sexy enough for a night out. A great all seasons fragrance. A must try. I actually wear the womens version too. Both smell pretty unisex and amazing. Not overpriced in fact actually really cheap. I can’t fault this scent at all. I absolutely love it. Always get positive feedback when wearing this. I ran out but use the version I bought my mum when I get the opportunity. Criminally underrated.

A nice blend of citrus and spice that quickly turns into a nice barbershop scent on my skin. Lasts in the 4 hour range with limited projection after 60 t0 90 minutes. The opening does smell rather zesty and as it drys the juice becomes enjoyable with wafts of geranium sandalwood and musk. For the price it is a nice weekend or casual scent or something for the office. Enjoy!

A sharp pleasant citrus opening that fades within 30 minutes and becomes extremely close to the skin. I use this scent for the gym only. Actually, it's perfect for the gym: non-offensive, not loud/nauseating, and lasts only a few hours. Very clean. Poor sillage and longevity but a nice fresh fragrance you can use frequently for everyday activities. Harmless. Overall: 6/10

Citrus and and pepper notes. Pleasant smell. Big problem with this is it's too weak! Nothing at all extreme about it. Won't get this again - big shame. It you like a smell like this, try Oxygene by Lanvin. *update* I probably would get this again because, as Lewee 123 said above, it is a simple fragrance and is easy to wear anytime really. Not expensive either.

My partner loves to spray a lot of perfume and with this one I never feel it's too much. A fresh fragrance to wear dayly and not so common in my opinion, at least I'm not so used to smell it around like XS or Kenzo for an example. A nice gift to buy without knowing the persons preferences cause I think it's difficult not to appreciate, unoffensive and nice.

I agree with other listers that the notes pyramid is spot on, you can literally detect all of the notes listed, the nutmeg is great, not particularly extreme, I also find it quite mellow and smooth, Paul Smith Men remains my favourite of his offerings, but this is a great fragrance, nice for Summer evenings. The Tonka bean base is very nice and warm. 8/10

This is fresh and Green and has a slight cucumber salad vibe. This reminds me of Guerlain Homme Leau Boisee. I got a tester of this for cheap and I'm glad I blind bought it. Performance is moderate. It's worth a try if you're curious about it. It's good for warmer weather.

The scent is great, zesty drying into something a little more herby, a little dated now but very much a child of it’s time. Sadly it has pitiful performance as I love it for the 30 seconds I can smell it.

My boyfriend wears this and I adore it! Maybe simply because he's the one I love the most, or because of the memories associated, but I always smile when I smell it. So lovely, quite a mature scent.

Paul smith extreme is citrusy but the woody-floral scent defeats the citrus. so those thinking this is another citrus-wood summer scent is mistaken. it's a good night/cold weather scent IMO.

Perfume of the type " nothing to add". It is a nice, but common fragrance. It has long lasting on my skin. However, I do not have the intention to buy another bottle for my collection.

Mint and toasted coconut? Not as weird as it sounds, this is decent enough but as other reviews say, weak performance. 100ml for £20, my ten year old uses it. 2.5/5

this is a must for all rosemary (and pencil shaving) suckers. bad longevity and sillage, but hey, for 10 euro? 5/10 soundtrack: kings of convenience - fever.

Such a shame, it has a lovely peppery smell to it but it does not last long at all so its almost pointless. about an hour and the smell goes away. avoid

Favourite line from Paul Smith

Reading through previous reviews, I see that "generic" has been mentioned a lot, and that's exactly what this is. It's neither beautiful nor dreadful. As something to wear for an hour or two (which is about how long it lasts), perhaps while doing a bit of shopping, then this is OK. It is a light, citrus forward fragrance, with a bit of spice coming through on the dry down. To my nose, there's something slightly metallic about it too. I bought 100ml for £16 and I got exactly what I paid for: a nice citrusy-herbal freshie with almost zero performance. I'm not one to over-spray, but I need at least 15-20 to get a couple of hours out of it, and even then longevity, sillage, and projection are terrible. I wear this around the house, just so I'm not burning through my better, more expensive fragrances. If I didn't do that, it wouldn't get used. If you ever see this on sale, put that £15-16 aside for your next, more expensive fragrance instead.

Back in 2004-5 my university days this was my go to perfume for almost every occasion along with Burberry touch just cause my gf back then loved it on me, so I thought everyone else even did. Upon getting it back now 2022 in my 300+ collection I realized what an ordinary low projection stuff this is. It does bring back a ton of good memories but I guess this alone won’t do much so I layer this up with few other new ones like rosendu no 5 or jpg Superman and similar stuff to get the most of out this baby

Smells like Paul Smith Man 2 but doesnt last as long. I lost the fragrance on the back of my hand after about 30 minutes. The fragrance is very flat and 2 dimensional. Cirus and citrus with a bit of a peppery undertone and thats about it. If you have the £16 to £18 in your pocket that this "stuff" sells for then put it towards something else....Like Paul Smith Man 2 which in my opinion is better...and the bottle is more distinct on your shelf or dresser too!

Paul Smith Men Extreme by Paul Smith: A nice but generic fragrance. Pretty affordable with a really nice sparkly citrus opening and a fairly likeable drydown. Performance isn't great but its a good around the house scent. Top notes: Bergamot, lemon Middle notes: Geranium, rosemary Base notes: Musk 2.5/5

this is not sexy, this is not a good option for young people, this is an outdated scent profile. It smells like vaguely sweet and spicy leaves and for me is very nostalgic as my dad used to wear it but i would steer clear this day and age. but if this is your thing, go for it

I really like the nutmeg, but the performance is poor just 1,5-2h. I'm using this the very first days of spring. Although I got one small and a big one it won't last many years as reapplying is done throughout the day.

Clean fresh musk with a little green in the back. It’s got a generic vibe to it. Good for everyday use.

A very bizarre, confused fragrance to my nose. It starts off bright and citrusy, and to give credit where credit is due, the lemon is pleasant, compared to in other cheap fragrances where lemon can come across like cleaning product. The citrus is very short-lived though, and disappears quickly, leading to the stranger part of this fragrance... The fragrance becomes very aromatic, but not in a good way. The combination of the almondy tonka, cardamom, and nutmeg smells very culinary, like aromatic food. You do get a geranium accord, and the musk comes through in the dry-down. Honestly, when I wear it, I'm a bit of a flower and musk away from smelling like a walking chicken tikka masala, which is obviously not ideal. Thankfully, although not to the credit of the fragrance, the performance is terrible, with very soft projection and poor longevity, so at least I don't have to smell like it for long. If you want a fresh, cheap, daytime fragrance, like what this is supposed to be, just get CK One, or Jaguar Pace for something a bit more masculine, both for a similar price. Both smell much better and have better performance.

My first review. After wearing L'eau Par Kenzo Pour Homme for many years, I was looking for a similar light, citrusy fragrance to use. I guess I was a bit confused in the store as I purchased this thinking it would be something I'd use daily. First of all, it's far far stronger than I expected. A single spray, with the bottle held far from the body, is plenty for it to be noticeable all day. Second, while it does smell citrusy, it's got a very strong note of pepper, which is so strong that I actually get a headache from it. Since I wasn't able to return it, I tried to like it and wore it maybe half a dozen times, but unfortunately it's dreadful and I suppose I will just throw it away. Back to the house of Kenzo for me.

A generic citrus-balsamic frag. Nothing Extreme here, only when it opens with a blast of sharp lemon. It soon turns into a summery citrus fragrance with a weak projection. I could see this worn by younger kids in high school, could maybe also be good for the gym for a clean smell. Sorry, this just isn't me. I'm glad I only have a very small bottle, will take me ages to use.

I had this when it was first out and it was a very decent fresh herbal frag , anyway I was gifted a bottle last month and was happy to see if again but then I pulled the trigger then again and again and honestly it’s the shell of what it was , it’s had it’s soul ripped out 20 sprays will last and hour .. I am always amused by fragrances that are inappropriately or inaccurately named. This is one of them. The opening for this is a crisp combination of citrus and spice, but not in a "knock your socks off" kind of way. The only thing "extreme" about this is the "extreme"-ly low price I paid for it at Kmart. Having said all that, I really do like this fragrance very much indeed (enough in fact to go out and buy a second bottle after I initially bought it blind). As the citrus settles down, the wood and spices really predominate and this is when the fragrance is at its best. The wood is simply magnificent. I am not that familiar with rosewood as a note, but the woodiness in this fragrance is deep and rich, yet mellow at the same time: it spans the gap between the more subtle woody fragrances I own (e.g. Oxygene by Lanvin) and really "in your face" super-strong ones like Givenchy Gentleman. The longevity is quite reasonable - three hours in a hot Australian summer. Given that during summer, hardly anything lasts very long on my acidic, perspiration-prone skin, three hours is not bad. This is not "extreme", but it is an "extreme"-ly well executed fragrance.

I have a 2 ml sample of Paul Smith Extreme and this is fresh and spicy fragrance with notes of bergamot and lemon followed by nutmeg and geranium then lastly tonka bean and musk, quick burst of fruity freshness to awaken you, that’ll give you a burst of energy first thing in the morning. The spiciness gives it the extreme edge that this fragrance seems to find, but struggles to maintain as the longevity and silage is poor lasting 3-5 hours at best. I only used the 2 ml sample 3-4 times on holiday coming back from the pool wanting a spritz of Paul Smith Extreme or after a shower, it made me feel refreshed even if only for a few hours. Overall, I like this fragrance but it’s not making me want to buy a FB anytime soon. I recommend this for those who want a burst of freshness before your morning run or just coming out of the shower and need something clean and fresh with a little bit of edge to its aroma.

A fresh and quite invigorating frag, which is a safe bet.. I applied 6 heavy sprays 0 -30 secs- Alcohol, modern, fresh young 30 secs-1 Hour. Strong 1 foot projection. This is a quite sour floral, which is masculine and then becomes more fresh with less harshnes. I got a nice breathing in compliment! Ages 30- 48 1 hour -4 hour - 6 inch projection. Some spiciness comes in with musk but overall quite fresh and rewarding 4 hours - 6 hours. 2 inch projection 6 hours - 8 hours - Close to skin, drydown 40% the same as Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme Gucci 2008, but not as complex as that frag, but still nice Safe bet for a present and I liked the opening hour and drydown
