Paul Smith Hello You!

I’ve owned Paul Smith’s Hello You! for a couple of years now after an inexpensive, impulse airport purchase. I’ve always been a big fan of Paul Smith due to their dandy-ish, creative take on colour and tradition, and I jumped at the opportunity for an olfactory experience. The bottle, which replicates the traditional shape but adds a playful pin-up motif, is delightful. For such a playful brand, however, Hello You! is quite a polite fragrance; the excitement is in the opening, where Mandarin and Coriander vie for attention, before the scent settles down into a less experimental, but enjoyably full bodied and creamy sweet apple scent. This is the “old dependable” summer scent in my fragrance collection: a no-brainer to reach for on a summer day, absolutely versatile for day or night, and a compliment getter without being overassertive (or, god forbid, cloying). It is definitely a crowd-pleaser, but in a less obvious way than, say, JPG Le Male or some other generally liked summery male scents that have suffered from overexposure; I would compare it to Invictus, but this has way more character and narrative. Very citrusy opening that has a slightly fruity & mildly sweet body..Decent sillage and longevity. You can’t complain for the price. Safe blind buy if you like the Invictus vibe. I’d say, it’s a less sweet Invictus which I really like. Great for daytime & summer use. Perfect for hot and humid regions.

This starts fresh and slightly fruity, and is very easy to wear. The lingering dry-down is a warm combination of vetiver and patchouli. Sillage is moderate, but longevity is very impressive - I'm getting 9+ hours. A good Summer fragrance.

Fragrance in three words: Unimaginative Lavender Neo-Fougère This is by an two incredibly talented perfumers Dominique Ropion and Fanny Bal unfortunately the fragrance is a bit on the crowd pleasing unimaginative side. I get a bit of a Neo-Fougère feel from this with a strong Lavender. Top note is sparkly citrus very similar to the top notes in Ralph by Ralph Lauren (2000). Drydown is masculine vetiver and creamy patchouli. Lasted around 4-6 hours which is what I've experienced with other Paul Smith fragrances. This is a safe, but pleasant fragrance. It's not in the same league as Paul Smith Men (2000) or Extreme Men (2002). Price in the UK is around £29 (2020), but can often be bought for less than £20 which makes it top value. Terrible smell.. Mint with Patchouli and some artificial sweetness.

The first time I smelled this, I didn't like it. It was last year at TKMaxx and I don't know whether the tester had gone off or what; all I could smell was orange and tobacco (as if someone had smeared a cigarette on my arm and then squeezed an orange), given that the bottle has a pin-up in the background in a "nudie/swimsuit disappearing/pen" type of fashion I though maybe this was an experiment to "old-type-barber-real-manly" type of smell. Last week, without going much into details, I was coerced into buying a bottle at my regular fragrance shop, as it had been heavily discounted I succumbed and purchased it. I am so glad I did buy it...it's not what I remembered. It starts out with mandarin and pink pepper (and there is something like a tea note in there), and dries down to a very pleasant vetiver / lavender / coriander. It's a very well rounded fragrance and it's quite versatile so it can be used day/evening summer/winter. For its price - it doesn't smell cheap at all (keep in mind that it is in the same price range of Police, Diesel etc. ). It has quickly become one of my favourite PS fragrances.

This is a very interesting find. The thing that attracted me to this fragrance is that very juicy citrus burst upon spraying. It fades and remains in the background. PS website doesn't list pepper as a heart note but I can understand why fellow reviewers would say that, there is some spicy tone like pepper.I got the apple notes the first time i used it. The base is a wonderfully dried grassy and leathery. Fragrantica listed labdanum while PS website listed ciste absolute,I can understand why as both ingredients has that resinous herby leathery quality. This is an EDT so longivity is a problem, sillage is unobtrusive and radiates for the first hour. I did an overspray on one arm as a test and I got that heavy burning plastic smell towards dry down that some reported so caution here. The perfumers are well known for creating fragrances for Fredric Malle and this is fragrance plays with traditional themes with a light and irreverent touch. I'm on my third bottle of this juice. The first two smelt sweet and inoffensive. This is how I want to remember it. Nice and summery. Not too strong either. Lasts about, 3-4 hours. A safe blind buy. However... The latest bottle smells rank in comparison and I hate it now. It smells like it's gone off. Even though I've just opened the bottle. Batch 08I14I052. Avoid this batch if you can.

Nice, sophisticated spring scent. Nothing special but easy to wear. Great bottle, stands out. Nothing too spectacular but nothing wrong either.
