Paul Smith London Men

One of my favourite old classics. To me I smell whiffs of coconut. It smells like holiday, but holiday in the evening, or a quality outside bar in London summer time. I love it and always have. Have had many compliments over the years. I read someone comparing it to Virgin Island Water (which I love too but doesn’t last long) - and I get that same vibe - they don’t smell similar, but it’s the holiday theme, nice smelling cocktail or something?! Maybe it’s the Coconut / Rum thing. I’ve just picked up a bottle of the new version, it was £25 for 100ml... which I cant really believe?!! and.... it’s good! I’d say it’s about 90% of the old EDT. The old one hung around more, projected better. This doesn’t project as well but has hung on as a skin scent for 4/5 hours, and usually most fragrances are sucked up by my skin! I would have paid more to add this EDP to my collection, and will pick up another bottle just because it’s so dam cheap!! Perspective - just bought a Maison for £280 and a Dior for £200... ok, this doesn’t have their distinctive quality... but are they really worth that much more? Hell no. If you know, you know, and if you don’t... for this price just buy it whilst it’s so low and enjoy! ✌️

This is a multifaceted scent. I have the newer, rectangular bottle with the screw top edition. It opens with a strong mint note with nuances of coconut bark (as in Eternity Now) then it goes full violet and violet leaf and musk Dior's Fahrenheit for about an hour. After that it settles down into a cool and fresh violet, lavender, sandalwood and amber core. This phase lasts 8-12h with low projection on skin, and I am getting consistently over 24h on clothes. It is still very refreshing and similar to Avon's Attraction Desire in the dry down. It succeeds at depicting London city's autumnal atmosphere with it's changes of humidity, winds and smells for sure. I think Paul Smith hit a nerve on the city scents. I paid 30€/100ml and I couldn't be happier, although I wish it wouldn't cling so long on clothes as I find myself smelling it 2 days after first applying. If you like the fresh mint opening of JPG eau fraiche, and you like that coconut bark (not sweet lactonic but authentic coconut meat and bark) from CK Eternity Now, and the woods from Boss Bottled Night, this should be up your alley.

I wore this for a while around 2004, then forgot about it until it was too late... London was a good perfume, probably underrated. I don't understand why it was discontinued. It could be appreciated by the younger generation who like things like Nuit d'Issey. It could also appeal to people who like perfumes like Penhaligon's Sartorial. London shares common ingredients with the latter by the way. I reckon London is a stylish, winter fragrance both woody and floral. The first stages reveal immediately the freshness of mint as well as the warm sandalwood. Altogether I can only agree with other reviewers who smell coconut. The heart is creamy and sweet. There's no way I would pay 200 or 300 euros on eBay. I found a second hand 50 ml bottle for a much much smaller price. The bottle itself is quite damaged and there's no box. But the juice itself is still good I suppose. I haven't smelled it for about 12 years and I can definitely recognize it. Oh, the memories... This is probably my last chance to enjoy London as I have little hope they re-release it.

It's been re-released indeed. And I thought it was the best news of the year so far. I have a vintage bought from ebay but the bottle, while 90% full, is in poor condition and came with no box. I received the new version today. I have sprayed the two versions on paper. The old one first smells like it's gone bad but after a while I can recognize my beloved London. The new one is in my opinion similar but not the same. It's more focused on the mint, the lavender and perhaps sandal wood.It smells more sporty and dry at the same time. I can't really detect the violet and the ambery and tonka touch anymore. It used to feel dressy and a little misterious. I will give it more time, use it on skin and on clothes to see how it reacts. I hope the magic will come back. I missed this perfume really bad. One last thing: the price is total bargain at 30 euros. If it wasn't for my obsessive nostalgia and chasing memories I must admit it does the job quite as good as fragrances which are 4 times more expensive.

Is this re-released???!! Is it true???! Oh, I must tell my son, if it is true!!! I gave this to him on his 13:th birthday, and he loved it so so much! And I did too, and so did all the girls in his class...😉😏..but then it went discontinued - we searched high and low for it! Eventually, by christmas -18, his girlfriend found it somewhere on ebay I think, quite expensive, and bought it for him. Of course he was happy!! He is now 24 years old, and it suits him just as well now as it did when he was 13. I am certainly going to check this out, if it is true!! 😀

Have used this since it came out, recently bought 2 x 100ml bottles of the new version as it was hard to find and it seems this re release has also now been discontinued. It has a beautiful mint and coconut thing going on for what was a cheap price. Works any time of the year but shines in summer. I believe it's the Tonka and violet making the pseudo coconut note but it's like a creamy coconut. Can pickup the citruses as well as base notes but the lavender, vetiver jasmine are really quiet here.

Ive had this scent for as long as i can remember.Ran out need to get this again. This is a gorgeous scent. Oriental fougere. Definitely woody/ balsamic/powdery. The type of scent you put on when your either on a date or formal. i need this bottle. it saddens me when scents that have alot of moments with me disappear just a whiff of this reminds me of alot of good times back in my early mid 20's. Update i just got a bottle of it from a local discounter for 40 Dollars.

My god I miss this one, it was pretty unique back in maybe 2006 when I first got it, that boozy whisky minty opening and then the weird coconut woody dry down was just so nice. Found it hard to get the re-issue in Oz, but used to try and get it back in UK whenever I was there. Hopefully a few bottes lurking around next time I get back there and I might snaffle them up as I can't say I have ever smelt anything like this since.

My son had it... Recently my 16yo nephew stayed over and smelling big cousins fragrances he picked this up and sprayed bit on. Everyone picked up on the teen smelling nice, he got few jokes thrown his way but he said he liked it. Whilst out shopping on offer before me exact same bottle, £15 slinky bell bottle 50ml. Christmas gift it is. Just love finding old style pharmacy/perfume shops.

ive just bought 4 bottles of this aftershave, been looking for it for over 2 years, never fails to get a compliment, if you see it buy it you wont be disappointed, think debenhams are selling the 30ml bottles. powerful coconut with a sweetness to match alluring and will not fail to get you noticed, very similar to obsession night but better projection and huge staying power

Imagine my shock! So glad I got a bottle of this before it got discontinued again. Simply lovely stuff, blue, coconutty, summer violet leaf bomb. Way ahead of its time, (many of last years hit new releases have this vibe), a piece of fragrance history I’m proud to own.

@notsowhatso My parents picked up a bottle of the Parfum version and brought it over to Aus with them. Fantastic vibe. As good as I remember the EDT. It’s still in circulation from places like Boots, I believe. Still haven’t seen the Parfum listed on here.

A very nice fragrance. Extremely underrated in my opinion. I tend to get a coconut vibe from this scent. Nothing in my collection smells remotely like this. Versatile with a great dry down. Worth owning.

One of my all time favourite scents. Just got the EDP version but can’t get it into Australia. (Dangerous goods. Don’t ask) Eagerly awaiting my parents coming to visit and bringing it with them.

Very decent. I've added this to my collection having liked the bottle and colour. The fragrance itself is like I said, decent. Long lasting made it even better.

I was extremely upset when I found out this had been discontinued. Very hard to find now. Lovely scent although doesn't last very long.

Most significant ingredient is missing from the pyramid. And it's a Brandy! "London" by Paul Smith is build around this glass of smooth vintage brandy, near warm fireplace (amber and tonka bean) with frosted mint leaf and lavender on the top. Needless to say it has very appealing appearance and, what's even more important - polite but memorable disappearance (drydown) - I smell spiced mandarine and violets for quite a while! So good for festive times. That's the guy who doesn't disappoint you from start to finish and "London" is very true to its name – transfers to your mind whole thing about this famous city. The feelings evoked : -yep, that's different, full of contradictions and surprises -different in a good sophisticated way -very natural smelling and unisex -very modern, yet very classy as Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes aka Robert Downey Jr , -traditions, elegance, sense of humour, good quality. You will luv it, Dahling

I have the newer EDP version. Since it’s not on frangrantica I’ll review that here. This one changes a lot in a good way. At first you get a very citrus/ minty fresh smell. Then at the heart of the perfume is very musky earthy coconut note which stays through out. I smell a mixture of obsession night, fusion d’issey and some notes similar to allure homme. It’s very unique and a Very beautiful fragrance. Longevity is moderate but stays on clothes longer ~4 hours. It’s masculine but can be unisex. I’m wearing it in winter time but I feel it can be worn in summer/spring too, although I doubt the performance will be good. Scent : 8/10 Uniqueness: 8/10 Longevity: 5/10 Overall :7/10

I have to agree with other reviewers regarding the coconut smell. I can't believe it's not in the pyramid and I personally don't understand why it's given the 'For Men' tag. For me, this is very close to a Malibu or Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion sort of smell but missing the creaminess, which is unfortunate as I find freshly applied suntan lotion on a woman very sexy. So if you're a woman that enjoys wearing mens colognes, go for this one as you'd smell of a sunny, hot weather beach holiday, and men love the smell of a woman walking passed them whilst they're having a drink at the beachside/poolside bar taking in the view.

I remember this one from around 2005. My friend had a bottle and I sprayed it on myself. What a beauty, I remember loving the smell and wanting to buy a bottle of my own. I never did find one cheap, back then and definitely not now :-( Update: Just picked up a 50ml bottle BNIB for about $40. Glad I have this, because my friend that introduced it to me is no longer around, he passed in 2016. This is something in my life that will remind me of him.

I hadn't seen this around in years but recently found a mini bottle online. Don't know why coconut is not listed as a note, unless the combination of other notes is leaving the impression of coconut. But it's not a beach scent. The mint and whisp of soft florals play well against the tonka and amber. Best worn in fall and winter. Lasts the whole day.

I just bought the EDP in the dark blue square bottle. I have no knowledge of the EDT. The EDP is delightful, it reminds me of Givenchy Gentlemen Only. I can smell: violets, woods, mint and woody notes. Longevity and silage are good. It has a lovely character too. It's sweet, soapy and very pleasant.

I had this for like a week. The person at the perfume counter said it had a cognac note. I thought it was weird but I smelled it and agreed. Then I started feeling self conscious about smelling like alcohol all the time. Lol. I took it back. I’m surprised I don’t see it listed here. 🤔🤔

I love this... Randomly pops up £14.99 or so for 30ml in discounters... Otherwise jokes prices on eBay! Suits warm weather - I get coconut and a warm woody base. Long lasting and decent siillage - gets lots of compliments! Why was it discontinued...? :-(

Love it, quite a unique drydown, but for your money it is good. Shame I can't get any more than a 30ml bottle. ah well , nice scent

Half way through the bottle and need to spray a lot to get it noticed for an hour or two. Smells like talcum powder, in a good way.

This is a review of the latest formulation. I did not buy this fragrance for the longest time and to be honest, I did not like this fragrance the first time I tried it on. It was too coconutty for my taste. However, recently a family member asked it as present and I tried it again... my perception of it has totally changed, maybe because it's one of those fragrances that works best with hot weather. SEDUCTIVELY BOOZY is the best description that I can give. There is a distinct note of coconut which permeates throughout the day (by the way, the longevity is outstanding and the sillage is perfect as you won't clear a room yet it will draw people closer to you). The coconut (which is not even mentioned in the official notes - yet, noticed by everyone who smells this) is then met by a strong mandarin (bordering on lime?) note, which inevitably makes the whole thing smell like a cocktail, however, the sensation that a cocktail has been dumped on you and you're now picking up little umbrellas will last only few minutes, and after that creamy amber/tonka beans notes will take over collating all the notes in a really sexy accord. This fragrance does boost my self-esteem since when I wear it people's reaction to me is very positive. I do wonder why this fragrance is not more popular? Maybe it is due to non-existent marketing?!? I also have the feeling the name London does not summon an accurate mental imagery and that it does not do this fragrance any justice. As a Londoner, I can say that Paul Smith's London does not really reflect the spirit of the city (at least in my experience). Paul Smith London should have been called Paul Smith Maui or Tulum Beach or Malibu CA - that would have given the buyers the right image of what to expect once they sprayed it on. London re-formulation has reaffirmed my trust in Paul Smith fragrances which are unpretentious yet absolutely stunning, first class fragrances without the stupid cost of some of the designers such as TF. I will definitely stock up in case it gets discontinued again,

While I probably wouldn't pick up a bottle of London at its current price point (upwards of $150 for a new 50ml), there's no denying that this a good fragrance, perhaps discontinued due to falling out of the times with what's trendy and current in men's perfumery. London is a smooth violet fougere with tasteful flourishes of lavender and mint, which keep it on a modern plane and away from more severe and traditional violets in the realm of Gray Flannel. There's also some interesting contrast between cold and hot, as London pairs its warm, Code-like base of Tonka and sandalwood against a chilly, almost-watery violet accord and the aforementioned mint. It's a contrast of textures as much as it is smells and in this regard it renders London chic but approachable, cool but engaging. London's success as a fragrance is even more apparent when placed along side Jil Sander for Men, a scent which theoretically aimed for a similar impression but missed the mark. While London triumphs within its contrasting approach, Sander for Men just comes across cold in a very bland and sterile manner, and its "spicier" elements only convey spice insofar as you consider harsh aromachemicals "spicy," The elements neither blend well not do they hold any kind of dynamic contrast as in London. In the end, Sander falls flat into a bland, aloof wall of chemical nonsense while London shows us how a modern fougere can be done correctly. Although it's altogether a "synthetic" scent, this particular quality matches London's character, reminding us that we're in the 21st century but also avoiding any harsh scratchiness or overpowering, chemical smells. I'd jump on this if it was released again but as of now I'm happy to have sampled it with the idea that it may show up on eBay from time to time for a reasonable price. Thumbs up.

My opinion is based on the re-release, i have no experience with the original version. To me it smells like any other average designer fragrances on the market. I was hoping for something new and unique, but the comparisons with Obsession Night should tell you that this isn't a great and outstanding fragrance. It could just be any other average fragrance release from the last decade and people wouldn't care. Your average Boss, Armani, CK, that's what this smells like. If you have plenty of designers, you won't smell something new here. If you love niche, forget about this. Smells ok, average, synthetic and cheap, no edges and no love at all. I think it may have been unique 15 years ago, but not nowadays. I also think it got 'modernised' a bit, to suit the blue trend in fragrances nowadays. I can't smell a lot of single notes, it smells fresh, sweet, a bit fruity and woody and that's about it. There is no hint of violet, lavender or sandalwood. Mint and tonka you will mainly get, and that's about it.The rest of the notes create something fresh, sweet, a bit fruity-floral and woody, like most designer fragrances on the market. A mish mash of notes with no real character, where you have a hard time distinguishing notes, since everything smells linear and the same. Rating would be a 5/10, just plain average. Performance is terrible by the way, a couple of hours and it is gone. Suited for a teenager or young man, beginners in the fragrance game. Think people liked the previous version when it was semi unique and they were young, with all the memories attached to it. Objectively, this isn't really a good or standout scent in the big world of perfumes, past and present.

Opening scent isn't good unfortunately. It is smell of violet leaf. Image that you pressed violet leaf in your hand and then smell it. Many people buy perfumes based on opening scent. But about 10 minute later it change to a very pleasant scent. This perfume is in floral category in my opinion.You can feel Violet scent after 10 minute and it becomes so similar to Dsquared, Rocky Mountain. Silage is moderate, but longevity is above moderate. If you test this one, Please wait for at least 10 minute and after that judge for this perfume. خیلی از مردم بر اساس نتهای ابتدایی عطر؛ عطری رو تهیه میکنند که این مورد در این عطر نقطه ضعف اساسی طراحی این عطر از نظر من محسوب میشه. بوی ابتدایی اون دقیقا مثل این میمونه که برگهای گل بنفشه رو در دستانتون له کردین و دارین بو میکنین که از نظر من اصلا بوی جالبی نیست. خوشبختانه تقریبا زود هنگام اون بوی نه چندان جالب از بین میره. بعد از حدود 10 دقیقه؛ عطر تازه بوی اصلی اش رو پیدا میکنه: بنفشه از این مرحله به بعد بوی این عطر بسیار شبیه به عطر هی وود راکی مانتین میشه. بسیار شبیه به اون. کسانی که عطر مذکور رو دوست دارند؛ به احتمال زیاد از این عطر هم بعد از مرحله ی نتهای ابتدایی اش خوششون خواهد اومد. پخش بوی این عطر متوسط هست. مدت زمان دوام عطر متوسط رو به بالا هستش

کسی به من این عطر رو داد و من اول دوستش نداشتم. بعد از مدتی که دوباره امتحان کردم از بوی میانی middle note خیلی خوشم اومد. بعد متوجه شدم که چرا اول خوشم نیومده بود: بوی ابتدایی اش دقیقا مثل اینه که شما یک برگ گل بنفشه رو توی دستتون له کردید و بو میکنید که به نظر من زیاد جالب نیست. ولی اگه کمی تحمل کنید! و 20 دقیقه بعد دوباره موضع رو ببویید متوجه بوی بسیار خوش گل یاسمن خواهید شد Someone gave me this perfume and I didn't like it at first. After a while, I tried again from the middle note I liked it very much. Then I realized why I didn't like it at first: its initial smell is exactly like when you crush a violet leaf in your hand and smell it, which I don't think is very interesting. But if you have a little patience! And after 20 minutes, smell the position again and you will notice the very pleasant smell of jasmine flowers

An affordable scent, which is creamy and spicy with smokiness, strong yet subtle projection and longevity... I applied 6 heavy sprays 0 - 20 mins - Young, violet, sexy. 2 foot projection. 20mins - 2 hours - 1.35 foot of subtle projection. Scent reveals itself and it is not the same as above. It is creamy, presume tonka bean and amber and spicy. It is 90% the same as Azzaro Chrome Legend or Chanel Allure Sport Extreme Pour Homme. Ages 30- 44 20 mins - 4 hours - 1.25 foot projection. Same as above but smokiness comes in 4 hours - 6 hours - 5 inch projection, sometimes more 6- 9 hours - 2.5 inch projection, impressive, you think it is quite mild, but it just keeps going I recommend Azzaro Chrome Legend over this, as that scent does not have the smokiness in it, which this one does Good

Very nice fragrance I do smell coconut mainly but it is a good every day scent and not offensive in my opinion, lasts a good while on my skin, whispers all day, not sure about the sillage though so I reckon this is a close to the skin scent as most long lasting fragrances with good sillage always last the full expected length on my skin. Also to anyone who loves this fragrance in the UK you can buy it for under £14 in semichem. It was discontinued for a short time but was brought back out again after the Paul Smith house reconsidered due to high demand for this fragrance. It is only available in 30ml now but DO NOT be tricked into paying the ridiculous £30+ price tag from most online seller on and off ebay as they are just trying to make a quick buck from all PS London lovers

Tried this today. Opening was sharp and bright, citrus and mint, liked it on paper, not on my skin. Drydown was much smoother, darker warm coconuty amber and sweet tonka bean. I get where the similarities with CK Obsession Night arise. In terms of complexity Paul Smith London is miles ahead, and longevity too. Projection is very moderate, classy and subtle. If it weren't for the unpleasant opening on my skin, I would gladly buy this fragrance. I certainly recommend others to try it. Love the bottle too. Shame it is now a rarity.

It smells like you are holding a pina colada whilst smothered in sunscreen. But still masculine! Great alternative to Aventus for that whack of fruit. All you need is the sunshine, and being in the UK that’s the only thing missing from this very individual scent. I have a bit of an old bottle from years ago but am going to buy the new release very soon. Hopefully it lasts and performs the same and with prices starting from about £22 for a 100ml EDP bottle seems a bargain, having done a quick google search today.

Paul Smith London must have been a sort of prototype for some of the latest stuff by Anoine Lie (I'm looking at you Nu_Be Mercury). A sparkling citrus opening supported by a kind of lactonic / coconut combo that revolve around an oriental-fougere-y bone structure with woody (sandalwood) and floral facets. Incredibly similar to Nu_be Mercury if not for the fact that Paul Smith London is definitely less metallic, less daring and a tad *cheaper* in texture. Very nice. Rating: 7.5/10

A true beauty this one! I never ever smelled a parfume as unique as this one. It's the ultimate fav. of my lover. I found this one online yesterday, soooo happy!! Parfume is warm but it's special because of the hint of mint. I think it's one to save for special moments or evenings. The staying power is great, you still smell this one after hours and it's just enough, not to weak/strong. If there is such thing as perfect, this parfume is. In my eyes..

Wandering around at work, nonchalant and confident, aware that I was in a bubble of Paul Smith "London". The world was my oyster, leaving a trail of violet and coconut. " I don't like that smell" came the voice of a female colleague. Without encouragement she continued...." It's the scent of a desperate teenager, praying that they get lucky on a Friday evening". Shattered and with my bubble punctured, I now have a part bottle for sale.

If you like Obsession Night by Calvin Klein then this can be a upgraded replacement. The two scents smells almost identical except for Obsession Night seems a bit darker while Paul Smith London is a bit brighter and more complex. Regarding longevity and sillage, when Obsession Night only blooms for 1 hour and then die down after 3, this one actually last for more than 8 hrs with amazing sillage

What a great surprise this fragrance was to me! London starts out smooth and comforting with the fresh aroma of mint combined with lavender where through time evolves to a herbal/creamy side thanks to the appearance of tonka bean which persists even in the base with the appearance of Cypress. Overall a very good fragrance that is hard to buy and to find someone using it.

This a truly nice blend of sandalwood with floral notes. This is a fragrance that is able to bring the true smell of mint into play with the other notes in this oriental fougere. The amber and orange adds a little sweetness to this scent. Overall, this has an earthy overture to it while allowing the floral notes to come through and still being a very masculine scent.

All i seem to get out of this edp is too much mint, after wearing it for a while it reminds me of old chewing gum, maybe i am having a bad day or got a bad batch so will give it another go in summer, i thought i was going to like this but am a bit disappointed so far, the spray aftershave in the clear bottle is good and resembles the original abercrombie fierce.

I’ve recently brought paul smith London EDP hoping it will last a lot longer than EDT and it doesn’t and all I’ve got from this from the opening spray is coconut and it isn’t mentioned once in the ingredients which I find odd and as far as compliments go all I hear is who’s wearing suncream

Great fragrance, like a pina colada with a hint of coconut and sunscreen. The notes listed seem to have zero correlation with the actual scent!? I had the original before the reissue and the new one is just as good. With a slight overspray it will happily last all day.

This fragrance is unique and captivating. It stays true from the first spray to hours later. It is not overwhelming but subtle. Each time I wear this fragrance the amber & sandalwood are the scent that will entice people to ask you “what are you wearing?”
