I must be the only one who adores this fragrance, though I will go ahead and admit my tastes are unconventional. While the other reviewers are absolutely correct that it smells like licorice and permanent marker, these notes give the opening a sharp, bursting citrusy-tangerine quality and sit atop a bed of berry-like notes that all meld harmoniously into a fresh, green, fruity bitterness akin to when you’re chewing on a blackberry and bite down on a bitter seed. I personally find it an addictive mix of astringent, green, and artificial; I wear it everyday and it is one of my favourite perfumes of all time. If you’re a little weirdo like me and enjoy bitter, artificial scents and/or you were the type to find sharpie fumes addictive as a child, Blacklight is a must try. I promise it won’t give you brain damage like huffing sharpie markers does, and even so, it’s totally worth it. PS: I also own Eau de Space. Blacklight is 1000% more wearable than EDS.

Imagine a swimming pool, but the water has pungent licorice sticks floating around and plus you are swimming under moonlight. You get out of it and let yourself dry, no towel, just moon and starlight and there is not a single sound around you. Just plain silence, and you are alone with your thoughts. You are not cold though, the imaginative conversations floating in your mind, always about what you precisely needed to say during the actual daily discussions, that you forgot to say and angry at yourself for doing so, are keeping your mind warm and you don't feel any chill. Tu t'accuses! Licorice, an ever fresh feeling coming from a grapefruit-anise infusion like a herbal liqueur, and a cold coriander accord is always with you. Hours later, all is covered with a thin leather jacket. You can be pessimistic and admit defeat too. Since this is Blacklight, your own mind palace. Only for yourself. Smell at your own risk, meditate as you wish.

I get a lot of isobutyl quinoline up front, which is a material I just can't stand. Soon that softens up and gives way to a softer licorice-dominant thing, which is an improvement for sure. All in all, it's not for me.

Funky licorice blast in the open, quickly dries on skin to smell like a hazardous combination of permanent marker, gasoline, and turpentine. Absolutely horrific and unwearable, amongst the few most unpleasant smells I've ever experienced from a fragrance. The only other close thing is Eau de Space. This is all not to say it's bad - it's completely unique and I've never smelled anything even remotely like it, and in this massively oversaturated medium full of copies of copies of copies, that counts for a whole, whole lot on its own. The smell combined with the art and concept get my imagination going and I can picture some sort of horrific, incomprehensible, Lovecraftian-by-way-of-The-Colour-Out-of-Space energy being materializing into the darkness before you and sowing nothingness outward like a metastasizing, all-consuming cancer. This smell is the last sense you experience before you're simply blipped out of existence.

The levels just aren't right, in my opinion... The aldehydes come across as screechy metallic, and the pepper is too prominent, also. I can't shake the metallic element to this, I really can't. The notes list looked so interesting, too, but I'm afraid it's a no from me...

I really wanted to like this one but the licorice/anise is too prominent.
