A Kiss Of Bliss

A Kiss of Bliss resembles nothing so much as the original Anais Anais in a revised and modern interpretation with a significantly paired down note profile (modern techniques mean that 20 notes are no longer required). This is why it immediately evokes a nostalgic impression.... The note profile maps onto the spine of Anais Anais fairly faithfully in its essence. Bergamot; greenish opening, a simplfied floral heart with the jasmine and heliotrope aggregating in a kind of shorthand the essential floral facets, with matcha replacing the orris root/geranimum/iris powdery accord - giving it a much more wearable and modern demeanour. The base again is simplified to its essence of musk, oakmoss and patchouli providing the greenish, airy woodsiness paired back slightly, as modern tastes do not run to oakmoss so readily as they did 40 years ago. There is no "gourmand" facet to this despite claims to the contrary. This is a green, powdery, warm floral like AA. The warmth is brought froward with the addition of powdery matcha which duplicates Anais Anais' light, airy, tea-like spring accord but adds a light gloss of youthful, cozy sweetness which is the key to the revision of the AA profile. Anais Anais was very popular because it took the 70s chypre-concept and modernised into a pretty daytime floral wearable by a younger generation of women for whom full-on oakmoss/civet chypre had become somewhat dated. Its a very clever interpretation by Penhaligons; the grandaughter of Anais Anais retaining that essential DNA - comforting and nostalgic, recalling an innocent, girlish youthfulness....

This flirts with being soapy without "going there" in the best way. I say that as someone who hates soapy smells. It flirts with being musky without being musky. I hate musky scents. It flirts with being green without quite being green... Everything about this screams I should hate it, but I love it. It is exceptionally well blended and balanced. I've never smelled anything like it and yet there's something nostalgic about it. None of that was helpful I'm sure - I think the key here is the bergamont, matcha, patchouli combination. Those are the three notes that I think I'm getting, and each is counterbalancing a note I normally can't stand. (Jasmine, musk, and moss.) I think that's what's so interesting. I can smell the moss and musk, but they are pleasant in this blend. The musk and moss never get the chance to go "dirty" or "earthy." This is surprisingly clean without being astringent. I don't think it's a safe blind buy at all. I love this entire line and think the sample pack with all five is worth it if you are just into smelling new things and aren't near any stores where you can smell in person. (Luckily this line is at Nordstroms and those are fairly common to come by.) I wouldn't wear this during the day as it leans heavy and does project a bit. Not an office scent. Not a warm weather scent, it would project too much. Great cold night scent. There's something even cold smelling about the scent itself.

These are my notes in pursuit of a wedding fragrance. This smells... creamy to me. I feel like it reminds me of fresh pastry cream from a choux bun or something. It’s creamy, but airy and light. Which is really weird because there’s nothing in the notes that would suggest creaminess. However, I do get the matcha, though it’s subtle on my skin. I can’t tell if it’s like matcha powder or more like a fragrant warm cup of green tea from a bag. Either way, it’s a very delicate scent on my skin. Not much projection after the initial spray. After about an hour or two, I get the biscuit note that others have commented on, so it does lean further into being a dainty gourmand. It's the first fragrance in my Penhaligon's wedding hunt that my fiancé has complimented! The dry down hours later is vanilla powder. Definitely a strong contender.

If you’re a freshie lover and you want something warm-and-cozy but shudder at the idea of a thick, cloying gourmand, boy do I have the scent for you! Gorgeous, complex, these layers make a sweet je-nais-se-quois similar to a buttery, vanilla baked treat and you’ll never guess it’s the clover. But here’s the thing: it’s a very classic sillage and longevity for something that comes at the same price-point of Penhaligon’s gut punchers like Empressa and William P. At nearing £200.... you’re paying for a label. The bottle is gorg though, and if you want a ride or die scent, I could see shelling out for something that would look and smell this pretty on your makeup table. Ps: If you’ve fallen in love with this scent I urge you to try the Amika hair line, famous for its clovery scent.

immediately upon initial spray you are hit with a wave of the most delicious matcha biscuit, buttery yet powdery, it is so comforting and cuddly. as the scent develops this kind of light powdery citrus sugar glaze introduces itself and is accompanied by an assortment of florals, among them the most tasteful heliotrope ive ever smelled - and i really don’t like heliotrope often so that says something. the scent has this photorealistic pastry quality to it but is balanced with soft petals and green matcha. it is so bright, warm, and sunny and nostalgic, in my head i get a vision of a tea party in the sunlight; heavenly and perfect

I had this on my wish list for a long time but didn’t get it because the reviews sometimes made it seem underwhelming; I wish I had picked this up sooner! This fragrance is for people who want to smell clean and fresh without smelling too soapy. To my nose, it’s powdery and delicate without smelling too dated. It’s great for office settings as it doesn’t project. It’s a warm hug. Although it has intimate to moderate sillage, it lasts 8-10 hours on the skin. In my opinion, it’s a cousin to Bal D’Afrique in that they have the same vibe. It is not blind buy safe, but it is definitely worth adding to your collection.

This is love in a bottle. I absolutely adore this fragrance. I’m so happy I got a full bottle of this because it smells so so incredible. It has the notes of matcha vanilla and clover. It’s not at all green fragrance as suggested by the notes - to my nose is very dreamy, velvety soft feminine fragrance, and just makes me so happy and this is a happiness in a bottle. I absolutely adore this fragrance in my entire collection and I waited every day whenever I am at home or doing work from home, because this fragrance just gives such a beautiful pleasant happy vibe. ❤️

I am obsessed with this! I sampled it on my recent trip to Milan. I was in a rush and sprayed on my coat and on the test strip paper, when I got back to my hotel I could still smell this perfume and it stayed on my coat for 5 days straight. The clover is just something special! The fresh citrus and powdery vibe is unreal. I would recommend this over and over again and I’m definitely going to restock once I’m done with this bottle! They've blended these notes well. I mostly get a white musk/heliotrope type of scent but it's offset by the green-ness of the clover and matcha with some depth added by the patchouli and oakmoss. The notes listed on the Penhaligon's website are musk, jasmine, and clover. Overall slightly powdery and a little sweet, but with some interest. This and Eau The Audacity are my faves from this collection, although I like the other ones, too.

a fantastic unisex scent. while you do pick up a very sweet matcha note, it is leveled out by the moss and patchouli. powdery fragrances are hit or miss for me and this is one that i really enjoy. it's inoffensive and can be worn anywhere. it'd nice if it had better longevity and projection. but other than that, it's perfect

It honestly reminds of Jo Malones Ginger Biscuit. It is just so biscuity, I noticed some natural jasmine oils smell like that, so I guess that is whats giving that note - it is nice and comforting. There is also a musky milky floral that is so lovely and enwrapping. The drydown is divinely, delicately, sweet powdery jasmine.

this is one of the most amazing fragrances i have. the matcha is at the forefront for me and it is SO beautiful... it is by far my favourite matcha perfume. it has a lovely sweetness and creaminess to it, and a little powdery soapiness in the background which makes it feel super cosy. 10000/10

this is one of my favorite perfumes i have ever smelled but i'm also partial to matcha and heliotrope. powdery, clean and sweet in the beginning and then dries down to something more musky and sensual. one of my top 10 favorite perfumes ever. mood is cozy, warm and sensual but very subtly so.

oh this is IT! this is such a photorealistic matcha fragrance; i have been looking for you!!!! the musk and patchouli ground the matcha perfectly, this is truly such a dream come true for me. if you want matcha (not matcha latte, not matcha white chocolate, but MATCHA), this is it!

A fairytale ✨🌱 Soft, powdery matcha with a touch of greenness. This fragrance has me utterly speechless. I’ve been dying to get a bottle since I sampled it a few months ago and I finally got it. This reminds me of blurry photos, sunny days, and chiffon dresses.

I h8 patchouli but this is balanced enough. I actually like this. I find this nice & subtle + a bit vintage. Almost Like if Mitsouko had a little baby. I prefer this baby because Mitsouko is way too intense for me. Overall though not full bottle worthy for me

Beautifully soft and makes me look forward to spring. This matcha isn't the ugly fake tea smell in most Matcha scents I've come across. It's like a sweet fluffy matcha latte. Love the sweetness but it isn't deep and overbearing, very light sugar.

It’s gorgeous in it’s entirely unique biscuity opening then dries down to a delicate blend of East Asian bakery with jasmine and matcha. It’s really gloriously crafted and I want to eat it and hold it delicately in the palm of my hand.

I have never loved a perfume as much as this one, it smells so so yummy! It smells like a cake straight out of the oven when you first spray it and then it fades to a really nice sweet musky scent. My most complimented fragrance by far

It smells like a stronger version of Yves Rocher's Cerisier. Their only difference is this one has a woody and earthy notes. It would have been better if this scent have a great projection and sillage.

Agreed with people who say this is a softer, muskier version of Bal d’Afrique. However I BLOODY love it. It feels beyond comforting. I want it very much now!

So surprised by the list of notes. To me it smells quite gourmand, like a cookie. Very soft and elegant. Universal, inoffensive, quiet - draws you in.

Scent is exactly like BS White Musk but here it's made with an upgraded essence. Good sillage and longevity. Simple but really nifty musk.

This is VERY similar to White Musk from the Body Shop. It settles into a very clean, milky musk. That’s it. It’s simple and lovely.

As a matcha lover, I was initially upset to have a strong negative reaction to d'Annam's Matcha Soft Serve. It was how my mom, and other anti-gourmand family members described it... "I don't want to smell like food/something I eat". You've got to understand how much of a letdown that was for me to understand how absolutely excited I am about this fragrance. MSS's matcha note was thick and ultra dense-- which I know can be credited to the lactonic notes in it too, but it was just toooo much of all of it. This matcha note is light, sweet, but just rich enough. It's JUST right. To make things clear, I think I still have to play around with A Kiss of Bliss a little bit. I'm still unsure if I would like to smell like matcha, but just me loving this is a win enough for me. This is a pretty, floral matcha sugar cookie. You know that PERFECT sugar cookie consistency that you bite into? You get that smooth texture in here too, thanks to the mild florals in this fragrance. The clover and bergamot really bring that sweetness to life in a way I wasn't expecting. This feels like biting into the perfect cookie that you close your eyes and sigh as you take a bite, it's just that good. Really, truly, bliss. The matcha note is not in your face, it's appropriately smooth, sweet and subtle.

A fragrance themed around Alice in Wonderland. Sweet and powdery, a proper girly clover scent. It opens with a green powderiness that’s both delightful and unique. As you go “down the rabbit hole” the scent deepens: I get a bit of a patchouli or mossy vibe in there too. It’s wonderful in the mid-phase as well (where matcha like note shines), but toward the drydown, it turns into something like burnt sugar. That ending has kept me from going FBW every single time. I understand the BR540 comparisons; because of that burnt sugar note but scent-wise, they’re totally different. At least here, instead of that iodine-bandage feel, you get something sweet, powdery, and cute. If only the opening and heart continued into the drydown, I’d have bought a full bottle despite the sweetness. Tag(s): cute, powdery, alice

I wish I could bottle the opening of this one. Immediately after the spray, it’s this sweet, bright, uplifting scent that is everything I could dream for. The brightness fades quickly though, and I am left with an almond sugar cookie with a hint of bitter (from the matcha, I presume) if I smell closely. The dry down is slightly bitter powder with a hint of synthetic, for which I am sad. I want so much to love this, but I would be lying to myself. I will revisit the sample sometime, but it’s not bottle worthy. I personally do not find it smells like Br540, Kiss of Bliss is thankfully not a full dentist office to my nose. Update: got a bottle on sale just to keep catching that opening. At half price, it is worth it.

Oh, I'm liking this a lot more than I expected! Powdery perfumes aren't normally up my alley and the opening felt dessert-like to me (also not always my jam), but it reminded me of cakes of my childhood (madeleines and homemade cake with lemon juice)! As a result, it has so much nostalgia to it! And the drydown isn't as gourmand at all, more like a soft green coziness. All in all a nice cozy companion, not overpowering, just there for you. This is only from spraying it on my skin in the store, now I'll get an actual sample to try it more again!

( sampled ) ok so this is possibly one of the most beautiful things i’ve tested. it’s dainty, powdery sweet and floral but in a gourmand sort of way. dries down faintly in a way reminiscent of powdered sugar ( not the same smell but the feeling, how it sits glossed over the skin. ) she’s very spring early morning to me, dew drops on petals and a waft of warm sweetness from the nearby bakery. genuinely a really nicely blended perfume! :D

Oooh this is a fresh meaty floral with a hint of earthy lotion-esque notes. It reminds me of my grandmothers scent BUT it's not a spicy "old lady scent", it's simultaneously young and old, fresh but substantial. It is a welcomed departure from smelling like a bakery, if you ask me. Something about it does perk the senses and makes you feel euphoric.

ground up tea leaves and sweet florals with a side of warm fur. earthy and very matcha heavy to my nose with a faint musk/moss. its softness perfectly captures the feeling of a pensive, cloudy, humid day on a tea farm, of fresh air wafting the green scent around. it definitely has a gourmand quality to it.

I find it a cosy and comforting fragrance and do like the combination of matcha, clover and heliotrope. It doesn’t last more than a couple of hours or so on me though unfortunately. It reminds me of Obvious’ Un Ete which I also enjoy (must be the matcha note).

Lasts as long as a fart in a wicker basket. Bergamot gives way to some hints of floral and some green notes and then gone within the minute with six sprays. I am anosmic to this fragrance?

This perfume best captures the authentic scent of matcha I've ever smelled. Not like milky type of matcha. It’s like opening a brand new premium pure matcha powder tin.

It smells like sweet, cloud-like candy floss - very feminine, airy and powdery. It reminded me of Penhaligon’s Constance, perhaps due to the caramel note.

I don't normally like powdery perfumes but this one is nice. very refreshing, a little too masculine for me at the start, but ends up green and sweet.

When I first sprayed this, it smelled familiar. Once I got here and saw that other people said it reminds them of Bal d'Afrique, I knew that's what I was smelling. Replace the vetiver and cedar base of BdA with a Biscoff cookie, and you get Kiss of Bliss. They're not exact dupes, but more like they could be flankers. And if you can find the Find Comfort perfume by Rare Beauty (not Rare, the one I am talking about only came as a purse spray in a set with the lotion), it's close to that too. I rated it as okay because 1) the familiarity to fragrances I have smelled before combined with the high cost of the Penhaligon's. If I am to pay this much money for a perfume, I would want it to be so unique and special that it smells like nothing I've ever experienced before and 2) I'm not the biggest fan of gourmands, and even though the biscoff cookie note is well balanced with green notes and citrus and a hint of florals (they're barely detectable on me), I would personally prefer less sweetness.
