Artemisia

Perfection. Artemisia has absolutely no faults or flaws. If Snow White has a scent, this is surely it. Artemisia is breezy and warm, sweet and comforting, like a 73 degree Spring or Fall day; always flowing in perfect harmony. This is by no means an "innocent" or "naive", it is a Wise Humble Goodness. It is a breathe of fresh air, and a sharp Right turn away from all the fragrances with no faces. This radiates a beautiful smell all around you, and leaves memory scent trails where you have stood or sat. It is truly divine. Artemisia is not masked behind powder or musk, vanilla or amber, floral's or citrus. Yes, there are similarities with Cashmere Mist, but that is very much clouded by strong musk and powder, while this keeps a perfect balance. I can not put the notes in proper place, but it is creamy, green, sweet and light, but lasting and silage is above par. It shows slight acidity, but stays neutral the whole way through. Initial spray is sparkly green with acidity, and the middle is more powder sweet, while the drydown is mixed perfectly, sweet light crisp yet a heavy silage. All I can say is this is absolutely Enchanting...I really love it. It makes me very self assured, but also self aware...A true Beauty this is. Update: This gets even better with time. Have it on your skin throughout the night and wake up to an enchanting smell. Spray it on a coat and find that a week later a glorious smell is coming from your closet.

This fragrance is very elegant. I associate it with something a woman making a name into "a mens' world" would wear. And after all it was made in honor of Artemisia Gentileschi, the controversial and celebrated painter of the Renaissance. Long neglected as a serious artist, her work was often attributed to other male artists. Reclaimed as a feminist icon in recent years, she is now rightly seen as a serious and groundbreaking artist. She also spent some time in England at the court of King Charles I. Her most famous work is the chiaroscuro masterpiece “Judith Beheading Holfernes.” It has nothing to do with the ancient queen Artemisia, the plant nor the deity Artemis like many think and are left disappointed. For me the scent starts of with nectarines, apples and green foliage. After some time the flowers and vanilla kick-in. Beautiful flowers and wrapped up in sunshine and butterflies. The end is warm, powdery and earthy - mainly musk and oak moss with the rest of ingredients lingering somewhere there as to remind of themselves. I wouldn't describe the scent as fresh at all. On me it has a lot of presence and warmth and this is making it more suitable for the fall/winter season, or perhaps a cold summer evening. And the bottle just got me - very beautiful! Artemisia is truly unique but yet comfortable scent!

A favourite of mine among the Penhaligon’s fragrances. This is a soft, creamy, woody and warm floral musk. It is beautifully blended and smells great from application to dry down. I don’t get any hints from the green notes or apple but what I do get is prominent musk, subtle sandalwood, really nice interpretation of violets, light vanilla, and the teeniest breakthrough hint of oak moss (oak moss isn’t a note I love, it sometimes assails my nostrils, but here it plays an inoffensive supporting role). I can not individually smell the peach, even though I quite like peachy fragrances. I feel like it’s there though, adding some juicy sweetness that’s just out of reach. While this is suggested as a powdery fragrance, I don’t think it’s overly powdery. Not like some of its counterparts, but there is a subtle powdered cosmetic undertone. Overall a really gorgeous, snuggly and feminine scent - lovely in Autumn (when I’m now wearing it in the Southern Hemisphere). It smells great wafting off a light scarf. Love.

So romantic. A whiff from a bygone world, when girls from wealthy families stayed mostly indoors and learned to speak French, do needlework, and play the piano. I once knew a woman who had grown up like this before World War II started, completely shielded from (and unprepared for) real life. I am happy that many women have the option to go out into the world these days. But it is beautiful to sniff at Artemisia and dream of being a girl in a pretty white dress, sitting in a room where powders and hair brushes are nicely laid out on a vanity, expecting the whole world to be one big, pretty, lovely smelling room. Surprisingly I cannot detect the violet in Artemisia - even though it usually is strong on me. I get musk and a juicy nectarine and a sweetness that reminds me of glucose tablets. Very, very delicious. Flowers? A lot, but I cannot tell you, which. Same with wood. Artemisia is so deftly blended, that I cannot analyse it further. Very longlasting, but with only moderate sillage.

I've had this fragrance for over 2 years now, so I've had time to let my thoughts on this marinate... Obsessed with the way it smells once it's settled on the skin for at least a couple hours. When you first spray it it does give a medicinal, almost bug spray like aroma that others have mentioned in their reviews.. But if you can get past that, this is a gorgeous and complex scent. I have an aversion to generic, linear fragrances, so I like to be challenged by the experience as a whole.. For me, I can look past that because of how unique and truly "niche" this fragrance is. This feels like freshly shaven legs on white pure silk sheets. THAT level of satisfaction from the crispness and smoothness. It's cozy, clean, intimate, with a hint of milky sweetness. I'm very picky when it comes to powdery scents to avoid giving "old lady" but this powdery note is light, fluffy and cloud like. Just dreamy and angelic. This would be my signature fragrance if it had better longevity and sillage.

I love this! The initial scent that comes through is not necessarily my favorite part of this perfume, but I don't hate it. I can definitely see how others have perceived it as a latex smell. Though as it starts to settle after about 5-10 minutes or so, the notes start smelling more to me like a freshly watered green house. Not in a dirt sort or way but more like sweet wet leaves and flowers. It's also quite powdery as well, which to be honest I didn't really like at first but it's definitely grown on me and I think it fits well with the florals. If you've ever watered very fragrant flowers, the way the flower scent mixes with the water in the air and wafts towards you is exactly what this reminds me of! It's quite pretty! The longer it sits, the more I can pick up the nectarine as well. Every time I use this, it makes me feel like a fairy wearing a flower as a dress having tea in a garden.

I took quite awhile with this girl and I'm glad I did because it has become one of my favorite comfy fragrances. It's not something that I would wear to go out and it's definitely a fragrance that I wear for myself and goodness gracious I absolutely love the scents that I wear 100% for me myself and I. This is a fragrance that I like to spray once or twice on my scarf and take a walk in the snow with my girls. IDK what about it makes it super super comforting to me but it's like a nice warm hug for me. I think in the last 7 months of having it it has started to be a comfy time for bed scent for my girls also. Which is something I truly love because I am a huge fan of keeping a little bit of my mother's favorite perfumes that she wore when I was growing up on hand just so that when I want to smell her I always can and hopefully I'm making great olfactory memories for my girls.

A "clean girl" perfume for a lady of aristocratic origins, a modern blend but with a slight nod to the vintage. If you're the type of person who thinks a bit of powder and flowers = grandma smell, dated/vintage, then maybe this perfume is not for you right now(give it several years, tastes change) This is for the powder connoisseurs, who can appreciate some dove soap elements. Elegant, classy, sophisticated, soft, airy, clean powdery floral. If you like teint de neige and dama bianca, give this a try, they're in that same family. This is less sweet and more "niche" smelling than dama bianca, but they give a similar vibe. The sillage is very soft, and the fresh opening doesn't really last. But the drydown is really really nice. I sprayed this on clothes and the scent lingers for hours and it's divine. Very good out of the shower scent, or before bedtime.

On me, this is violet, jasmine, vanilla and MUSK-MUSK-MUSK. And I love it :) This is so very feminine - it has quite a gentle, soft quality about it but it's "there" enough to be noticed. From the notes listed, I thought this may be a bit too simple/safe for me...but I'm pleased to say it's not. I am blessed enough to live in a climate where it's sunny most of the time and I also have a large, beautiful garden out the back...I can easily picture wearing this perfume while sitting in the sun with a good book and a glass of white wine. Artemisia is elegant, lady-like, understated and all things CLASS. The longer it's on my skin, the more it envelopes me in such a warm, comforting, loving, FLORAL way. This is just beautiful. I fell in love with this perfume within seconds of smelling it in their shop. At first I was resistant to buying it as it's so expensive at £95 but I managed to buy some from their outlet in York for around £40. As much as I adore this perfume, for the price the sillage is extremely poor. It fades from your skin so quickly, so to get any last you really need to spray it on your clothing. As a result of this I found that I was using excessive amounts each time & my bottle ran out very quickly. I am very reluctant to buy any more of this perfume, which pains me as it is so beautiful. But thank you so much to the users of this website I will be checking out the recommended alternatives. Donna Karen's perfume seems to be a very reasonable price so fingers crossed I can find it in a department store to sample!

White, fluffy, soft, fuzzy, all the clean white adjectives you can think of, that is Artemisia. It is a beautifully done clean scent- just light, airy and fluffy enough, with a little bit of a powdery depth. Besides the apparent blend of musk and violet, it is difficult to pinpoint and break down all the notes in there, rather generating more of an imagery. It smells exactly like a white bar of soap in a luxurious white marbled bathroom. The soap is not drenched in water or creating foam, but at its dry form, placed on a white soap dish carved with gorgeous vintage-styled decorations. It is when you put your nose close to a dry bar of soap, and you are able to smell the clean soapy and muskiness, rounded by what feels almost like a slightly powdery texture.

I fell in love with Artemisia at the Penhaligon boutique and the scent stayed on my mind (one might even say I was obsessed with it) until I finally got a bottle of my own weeks later. This fragrance is simply dreamy. It is supremely comforting, and something about it reminds me of some fond memory I can't quite place. This is the scent of how bunnies feel, or how cream-colored Chantilly lace looks. The fragrance is soft, little more than a whisper. The opening is sugared nectarine or peach pie a la mode, buttery-crusted and warm from the oven. This gives way to notes of creamy vanilla and powdery violet. Artemisia feels drinkable, like gently-spiced milky tea served from bone china. I wear this to bed when I need to dream of being a princess.

This is a lovely powdery violet scent that I find quite hard to describe as there is a note to it that makes me feel quiet nostalgia, a bittersweet longing entering in my mind the longer I attempt to focus on what it is I'm smelling. It is a comforting scent despite that disquiet I feel; as the reviewer below mine said, it really does feel like a warm hug though I'm not sure why it feels that way to me. Perhaps this is the scent my late brother in law wore - the kit was originally his but given to me after he passed before he had time to use more than one vial up, or perhaps there's just simply a note of my childhood buried in the formula for it. In either case, I'll definitely be buying at least a large decant of it if not a full bottle.

This is like a really beautiful luxurious soap. Like you just had a bath in the Ritz then went downstairs in an elegant dress for afternoon tea. Clean, Fresh, Powdery and Feminine. It's elegant and it's also a little bit sexy in a soft and clean way. Delicate violets, tea, vanilla, and musk. It's perfectly balanced, the slight sexy sweetness balanced out by the tea, touch of oakmoss, musk and florals. The more I wear it, the more I notice the beauty of it. Completely office appropriate, it's gentle and you just get delicate wisps of elegant gorgeousness. The dry down is a more sensual skin scent with the tea, very soft vanilla and amber coming through. This is a LOVE for me as a clean beautiful daytime scent. This really lifts my spirits.

This fragrance was one that I often smelt on paper and could never understand as to why it was so popular. I could not smell ANYTHING. Gradually I familiarized myself with the scent. Someone had remarked previously that it is best to think of a strawberry dusted in icing sugar. Its now a fragrance I enjoy wearing for personal preference. It definitely comes across as feminine. I love the soft, un-offending musk of the scent. Everything within this scent is very soft. It smells great on a nice summers day. I once however smelt it in the hot Indian weather and did not enjoy the scent at all. In hot weather the notes smell to sweet. This is a subtle scent and is not well suited blasting out.

Got this from a fragrance swap today and I'm absolutely in love. It's a soft, comforting powdery scent . Lightly floral with some tea in the background. Can't seem to get enough of it! I thought I was reminded of iris but it doesn't seem to be one of the notes. My only issue would be that while it lasts really long (I can still smell it after 6+ hours), sillage is super poor. More or less a skin scent for me, I can smell it only when my hands are close to my face, or if I deliberately sniff at my wrists. Really wish the performance was better especially since Penhaligon's ain't cheap. Nevertheless, I'm tempted to get a full bottle of my own!

I would believe you if you told me this is how the gates of heaven smelled like🕊👼 Truly angelic, white floral with a powdery vanilla moss finish. I for some reason correspond this with this soviet fairytale enchanted princess named Vasilisa the Beautiful. Full of elegance, kindness, grace and beauty. If you need for a more recent reference- this smells how Inika's solo voice sounds like singing Jericho. The smell of adventure, the smell of death, passion, love and magick. I wore this fresh out of the store in Edinburgh and ended up in a cemetary where I watched a man die and gave him CPR until the ambulance came. This scent will always reminds me of that! This smells like clean air with whipped cream and hints of sandalwood. Artemisia is balanced and beautiful, slightly like sweet spit and sweaty thighs. Artemisia is sexy and it removes articles of clothing. At first sniff I found Lily of The Valley right away. Major notes of vanilla and aldehydes creates a whipped cream smell. Lovely fragrance, a must try!

Alright I will try to summarise it for those ones who are particularly into life experiences. When I was a little girl, I remember distinctly what it felt like when you smell your new doll’s hair and skin. Now after that plastic (which I personally like and find absolutely unique) comes a soft baby powder which keeps you warm. The amber is quite light and breathy so this perfume won’t choke you in summer. People normally feel very comfortable around it. For me it’s one of the new favourites, particularly because it’s a childhood smell.

Oh my, how soft this one is! Creamy-powdery, warm and delicate. A subtle blend of musk, vanilla, violet and jasmine. Quite a romantic perfume. The powderiness and soapiness reminds me of Salvatore Ferragamo's Signorina. They are different when it comes to notes, of course, but this softness somehow brings them together. Artemisia could be Signorina's older, more mature and elegant - but still very feminine - sister. It stays very close to the skin, and not for a long time in my case - about 3 to 4 hours. I wish it would last longer.

An absolutely lovely perfume! Proof that reading the notes beforehand doesn't give you the full picture. I normally stay far away from green notes and especially despise green apple. But it's not like that! I mostly get iris and it is powdery, soft, creamy, musky and gorgeous. I was doubting between this one and Iris Poudre (Frederic Malle), which is stronger and aldehydic while Artemisia is fresher, more innocent. The SA told me she loves layering this with Genetic Bliss (27 87) and I think that's a lovely combination!

Artemisia is one of my all time favourites. I haven't yet been able to afford a full bottle, but I'm probably on my 10th sample. It starts out sharp and green, then passes a strange musky phase before finally settling into a beautiful, soft powdery musk with sweet tones. The silage is intimate and I find the longevity perfect. I live in Scandinavia and this smells like a calm, soft early summer evening with nothing to do and nothing to worry about. Absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to buy a full bottle.

Definite love for this perfume. Soft powder, musk and dolls. There's something reminiscent smell of my childhood barbies. Very cozy, warm, comforting scent. Wears close to skin, I barely smell it within in couple of hours, like everyone else wish this had more power and longevity. Just keep reapplying. I can see some comparison to DK Cashmere Mist, warm lingering musk part, however this is more floral, jasmine and violets perfect combo. Kate Moss Lilabelle has some similarity to this scent also.

This scent is an emotion. It is powdery, slightly sweet, clean fresh linen, a soft musky milky scent of a child or a puppy. Soft and fluffy. Perhaps there is this slightly synthetic note but in fact it makes the scent more complex, like the smell of dolls or play dough, it's quite addictive, interesting as iris is not listed as a note. I associate this with comfort, a kind, feminine experience of love. The scent of a mother, sister. Good for all seasons and preferably day time.

My husband wore this for a year! We got it for him while on vacation in Miami. We both loved it! Only recently found out that it is "for women." I don't think he was embarrassed by that or anything (I wear Cartier Declaration, Hermes Voyage and have worn Vetiver by Guerlain and he loves these "men's" fragrances on me) -- but I don't think he will wear it again. Maybe I will!? There is something so warm and nutty about it. I really like it.

I was delighted this morning to receive my full bottle of Artemisia. As a newcomer to the world of fragrance appreciation I shall leave describing it to someone with more experience. What I will share is that it makes me feel as though I have walked out of an E.M. Forster novel or that I'm Julia from Brideshead Revisited. I couldn't help but put on my favourite dress today and the heels I wouldn't ordinarily wear.

On excellent fragrance second only to Penn haligan's impressive a wonderful gift for any woman in your life. The smell of vanilla the powdery scent the green apple lily jasmine it's all there. Very feminine, very enticing and absolutely aphrodisiac of a fragrance. Only on very rare occasions has a scent been found to be absolutely fantastic and mind-blowing by me, and Artemesia was one of them. Highly recommend.

The opening is sweet and fresh that is perfect for springtime. However, the dry down is more woody and musky, although you can still smell the fruity sweet floral scent, which made it somehow also suitable for colder days like autumn. For me, it is not a comforting scent but you can definitely feel beautifully feminine with this one. Definitely considering buying a full-size bottle of this!

On me a soft, powdery, clean and flowery scent. Very alike DKNY Cashmere Mist - A very nice and safe every-day-scent. Maybe not for a teenager, bur sure for a mature woman. På mig en mjuk, pudrig, ren och blommig doft. Väldigt lik DKNY Cashmere Misgt - en trevlig och säker varje-dag-doft. Kanske inte tilltalar tonåringen, men tilltalar nog många kvinnor mitt i livet.

I received this as a sample from a very generous member on here and it was an instant love. Powdery, musky and slightly sweet with a good dose of iris and violet. I feel very sophisticated when I wear this but this is also cosy enough to wear as a bedtime scent. I watched a YouTube reviewer say it was the scent of a ballerina and I completely agree.

I had this in 2016, it was a beautiful white floral scent but sadly no lasting power and no sillage, so I used it up really fast and it wasn’t worth buying again. After a few years I remembered it and wanted to smell it again but I think it is discontinued. I find Amarige by Givenchy similar but with much better sillage and projection.

Soft, cuddly, mildly sweet, very feminine imho. You can never go overboard with it, it mainly stays close to the skin. If you want it to be noticeable to your surroundings, than you have to use it liberally, in which case it becomes a compliment magnet from either male or female acquaintances. All season gem :)

Beautiful, soft relaxing scent. Cannot stop wearing it, the only downside is that longevity is not the greatest 4-5 hours but I reapply. It is calming and a bit motherly to me. At the beginning a bit stronger on musk and then beautiful blend of violet and vanilla in the heart and dry down. Love 😍

My first introduction to Penhaligon's and it did not disappoint. This is a powdery green floral scent,very feminine even though it's a skin scent it's still a nice one to wear when you don't want to wear anything heavy or closing. Definitely repurchase worthy

Soapy, elegant powderpuff and crushed lipstick this smells to me like the bottom of a makeup drawer in the most sensual way. It makes me want to wear silk and have my hair in an updo. I don’t understand the hate for this one.. it’s clean but got bite.

This perfume is lovely. To me is a late spring/ early summer day in a bottle. Soft, fresh, and absolutely amazing. My first Penhaligon's and is not disappointing. Classic, lady like, non offensive perfume. Looking forward to try more from this brand.

At first I didn't care much about this scent, it smells just like Cashmere mist. After a few minutes, however, this settles down into a creamy, milky aroma that just drove me crazy! excellent. just the comforting, cozy smell i've been looking for.

I love Artemisia because I love Cashmere Mist from Donna Karan. Both fragrances are very similar almost identical, PA seams to be a bit sweeter but lovely anyway. Strange to see a modern designer fragrance in this Victorian packaging.

Soft and powdery, perfectly nice with light sillage. Violets and vanilla, musk and amber. Office safe. I like it and would be happy to receive it as a gift, but it's hard to pull the trigger when I have so many others on my wish list.

This is beautiful! Oh so soft, delicate, creamy and dreamy. The review by Hippo Princess is so perfect! It does total justice to this darling perfume. So evocative of just that - dreaming of being a princess. Perfect!

Almost impossible to describe. A musky cashmere warmth that envelops you like a gentle hug from your mother. Elegant, refined, yet also comforting and tender. This isn't a collection of notes- this is a feeling.

Very feminine. There's definitely a 'clean laundry' smell at the beginning. It's soft and powdery with some violet and there's something slightly spicy in there but it's not bold enough to work out what it is.

Love this - soft, fresh, floral but not sweet. It has a musky undertone which gives it a bit of gravitas. It lasted a long time on my skin and settled down to a warm powdery, musky pleasantness. Very nice.

To me this is such a cozy sandalwood musk vanilla scent.. these are the notes I get the most. Artemisia is so easy to wear, it's a cozy comfort skin-close scent, and yet very lady like and sensual.

Slight nectarine/peach at first on top of musky, powdery subtle floral vanilla. A blind buy for me one some I'm so pleased I got. Well blended, well rounded.

Unoaked chardonnay, tea and baby powder. Every time I wear this, I wonder why I don't wear it more. This fragrance really sings on a humid or rainy day.

this scent is so yummy! it reminds me of madeleine cookies dipped into earl gray tea on a summer day, uplifting, classic and deliciously sweet.

This perfume is so pretty and dainty. It has a whimsical quality to it. On my skin, I smell mostly vanilla and a little violet.

green and a little sweet like herbal tea, or flowers that grow beside a mist-covered lake ^_^

I do love this scent, but does not last at all! Have not found anything like it tho :-(
