Blenheim Bouquet

I must say that at first impression, this is probably not going to be your favorite. I heard someone say that it was an eau de fruit loop once, and I think that or lemon furniture polish pretty well sums up the INITIAL top note. Let it dry down just a little and you will find that it loses that chemical-like lemon feeling and really starts smelling like fresh lemon. However, this puppy shines when it hits those base notes. I like to think this is a "warm pine" which I think is rather unique. I am convinced that it is the dry down that as made this fragrance stand the test of time. I really, REALLY enjoy this fragrance. True to Penhaligon's form, it doesn't have outstanding sillage, but it's enough to occasionally get a whiff while you are sitting still. I'm certain that it isn't going to leave a trail a mile long, but really what you are paying for is class in a bottle with any of the Penhaligon's stuff. This is no different. Back to this "warm pine" note. I can't say that I've ever smelled this particular scent outside of a lumber mill. To be honest, that's really what it reminds me of. Have you ever smelled freshly sawn pine lumber? It has the smell of pine needles, but the saw has sort of burned it a little. This is the closest thing I can come up with to describe this smell. It's fresh, but it also feels a little burnt, or rather toasted. It's completely pleasant and will remind you of campfires without smelling like smoke. It's hard to describe, and perhaps that's what the black pepper adds to the show. I definitely recommend this to anyone. Just wait 15 minutes or so before you walk outside with it, or you are going to have some stoners with the munchies following you looking for fruit loops. 8.5/10

When I first smelled the bottle I thought; "hmm lemon sherbet...not for me". Then I got a sample and tried a bit on my wrist and thought; "actually, it might be good for summer, but I probably won't buy it". However, the other day I thought I'd try a different fragrance to work and I wore it out for the first time.....wow. I finally get it and love it! It's a particularly cold spring here in Scotland just now (about 3 degrees C on a good day!) and this fragrance goes perfectly with those cold, crisp and sunny mornings. I always thought of this as a summer fragrance, but it's the perfect scent for this time of year and the low temperature. I like to think that the obvious lemon note is like the sunshine, but the dry down brings a darker, spicier depth with strong incense throughout, making it very warm and comforting, especially during the cold mornings. Perfect. I work outdoors and smelling this all day lifts my spirits and puts me in a good mood. Like all the Penhaligon's, this just smells classy and well put together. It may not be particularly complex (although it is more complex than you first think, so give it a chance) but even the simple Penhaligon's just ooze elegance and class. There's not much more here than sherbet-y lemons, incense and a bit of musk and pine, but it's so nice! I'll be buying a full bottle next week! The only negative, as with a lot of Penhaligon's, is the longevity...not the best, about 3 to 4 hours on me. Projection is not too great either, but I think it suitable for this type of fragrance. You can smell it within a few feet which is fine, but the dry down is very close to the skin, so a spray top would be best in order to really get a good coverage.

I was looking for a Summertime Pine fragrance, so I purchased Creed Epicea, Dior Granville, and Byredo Gypsy Water. Then I found a good deal for a 100 ml tester of Blenheim Bouquet. Dissapointed that none have a clear, or dominant pine. Gypsy Water has the most noticable pine note of the 4. Blenheim Bouquet is very much like Granville, but inferior. The notes are good quality, but I gave Dior Granville a 10/10 rating. Blenheim Bouquet has an herbal note they are not listing, that blends with the citrus, giving the citrus a bitter green accord. BB came out before Granville, but Granville is just more complex, smoother, better crafted. It's like Tom Ford Italian Cypress coming out after Halston Z-14, very similar, but higher quality. The pine in BB is slightly more noticable than in Dior Granville. I like Blenheim Bouquet a lot also, it's dry, crisp and clean. It's not a total clone of Granville, it has some subtle difference that I will enjoy. So it's not totally redundant. I like the lavender here, that Granville doesn't have. The pine becomes slightly discernible from the mid- dry-down. It has a great musky dry-down that's warm and creamy, with some of the peppery, slightly sweet pine lingering. A nice evolution, and contrast from the dry citrus opening and mid. I have a large mostly niche collection, but I can see myself wearing this a lot in Summer, as a great go-to casual. It's classy with a simple fresh eligance. Rating: 8.5/10 God bless. John 3:16

I first smelled penhaligons in a hotel in NYC - a boutique hotel called The Carlton. Their house toiletry scent was Quercus. I could not get enough of it. When I looked up penhaligons and read all the descriptions and decide I must have the entire line. When I went on a business trip to Vegas where there was a Penhaligons boutique in one of the hotels. I remember trying on every single scent, being overwhelmed, and then deciding blindly that I was going to buy this one for my boy friend at the time (husband to be). I was terrified that it would smell horrible on him...but it didnt. I was quite struck when he first wore it. He has a warmer type of body scent which mixed with the smoky woods and citrus altogether smells like home to me. it smells like man and culture. Someone wearing this has a soul and you can have a conversation with him. He's going to write you a letter not just send texts. He will remember when you love a piece a of jewelry and it eventually shows up on your birthday. He will surprise you with a new bottle of serge lutens when you get back from a long business trip. The man wearing this is above money, insecurities and lust.

First whiff before applying; smoke. Almost coal-tar. I'm reminded of the washing of hands with coal tar soap in luke-cool to cold water at sunrise in winter on a farm in the British Isles, and the city winter pall anywhere in the British Isles when I was there. Or the coppicing of the willows and the smouldering of the charcoal under the mounds. It is absolutely nostalgic. Rigour and austerity were once paradoxically comforting things. You knew the routine and stuck to it and as a reward you got beautiful memories of white frosts, misty sunrises, iced puddles, porridge with brown sugar and cream donated by the cow that morning, the institutional pot belly stove and gruff but kind leaders of the uniformed, scouting sort. A bit like Moonrise Kingdom with less eccentricity and more ordinary fun. No element of Catch 22 at all. Serious, familiar goodness. Much later... There is something simple and sweet in the dry down. Coming to an ID, the imagination was whisked into a memory of cake baking. I think it's the type of vanilla they call 'extract' where it's mixed with alcohol in the tiny bottles.

Blenheim Bouquet is one of Penhaligon's classic colognes and is one of their most well-known scents, being over a century old. I smelled this a few years ago after reading that this is (allegedly) Prince William's scent of choice, and liked it as much then as I do now. A radiantly fresh, aromatic barbershop cologne, it is simple but rounded and perfectly-balanced - there is no sharpness or harshness here. BB has a bright, fizzy citrus opening, fresh and bracing. I enjoy a lemon-lime accord, and here it sparkles, appearing crystal-clear - the olfactory equivalent of sunlight. The pine follows after a little while, soft and green, aromatic and mellow. Lavender follows closely, bringing BB firmly to barbershop territory. It becomes a sweetly musky skin scent, the lavender lingering. I also get a hint of dry vanilla in the base. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate. It is masculine-leaning in my opinion, and is a spring/summer daytime scent. A classic cologne with heritage and history, BB is effortlessly elegant and timeless. I would love this on a man. 4.5/5.

Reviewing a bottle from 2012. Blenheim Bouquet was launched in 1902. Despite the name " Bouquet" there are no detectable florals here. Blenheim opens with a burst of effervescent fresh lemon-lime. Soon the lavender and pine come in as the citrus fades. There is black pepper adding spice and also soft leathery musk in the long lasting drydown. The pepper makes the drydown interesting.This is a simple but very effective combination. It is not sweet nor is it soapy or synthetic. For those who find the opening too citrusy - wait a few minutes - most natural citrus topnotes fade by 10-15 minutes. This fragrance as many others is all about the drydown. The quality in 2012 was still very good although it had already been reformulated. 4/5 Unisex -totally Performance is good 4/5 Originally commissioned for the Duke of Marlborough. It was Winston Churchill's signature scent. Yes, this is aristocratic and understated but never stodgy or dated. Overall a classic citrus/pine/musk fragrance for someone with casual nonchalant elegance. RIP WC. 9/10

I love the citrusy, fresh and sour opening but sadly it lasts only 10-15 minutes. In the dry down it reminds me a lot of Agua Brava from Antonio Puig but it's like a more modern version, less earthy and with more citrus and depth in general. Sadly, the performance is very weak on my skin, I can barely smell it moving around so I doubt anyone near me will smell it if I don't do 10 sprays or so. The smell itself is great - clean, classy and a bit nostalgic at the same time. Something I imagine my grandfather would wear when he was young (I guess makes sense if the fragrance was really released in 1902) but also something I want to wear too. If the performance was better, I would be ordering the full bottle right now. But considering the high price and the fact that I already have Agua Brava and Terre D'Hermes which does pretty much the same job with solid performance, this one goes somewhere to the bottom of my wishlist.

Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet opens with an amazingly bright and lemony citrus rush. Not overly astringent or at all unpleasant but man this is a serious citrus bomb at the outset. Within a few minutes it evolves and begins to remind me of candied lemon rinds. Sweet yet still very citrus forward with a bright floral note that I can only attribute to the lavender note. In dry down it becomes a bit peppery with a very smooth musk that adds a bit of creaminess and depth. This is one of those fragrances that I can’t stop smelling. Projection is on the weaker side of moderate but for those in closer proximity I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this scent as you pass by. Perfect office fragrance and definitely an easy reach on a hot summer day. Currently I have a 5 ml decant and unless something changes before it’s depleted I’m thinking I will be buying a full bottle soon.

I'm not surprised the notes in this rhyme... Lavender, Lemon and Lime, Pepper, Musk and Pine. It strikes a great balance similar to all the Penhaligon's I've sniffed out. Perfectly natural sharp citrus of Lemon and Lime(you can really smell both) with calming Lavender. The drydown yields a little pepper and gentle musk. My only criticism is that the combination of top notes give this a cleaning product type of vibe and I'm not one who usually says that about overly lemony or lavender fragrances because it's too easy to go there. At the end of the day I like and accurate citrus also love lavender and I like the subtle pinch of pepper, just works. This still has an elegance about it, Penhaligon's just pulls it off and Blenheim Bouquet has a clean feel but it's not the best offering from them although inoffensive and wearable.

Remarkably youthful for something concocted in 1902 - this isn't your typical stuffy grandfather fragrance. Unfortunately, its longevity is about as enduring as a sunny day in England. Within two hours you're left sniffing your wrist, puzzled, wondering if it was ever there to begin with. The scent politely excuses itself, vanishing discreetly rather than overstaying its welcome. Still, while it's around, it's sheer summertime perfection - ideal for linen suits, garden parties, longing for day of Empire, and expressing genteel disdain for anyone wearing something... louder.

I just received a 100 ml bottle Sealed. It was sold on ebay for $55. Everything looked legit. It even had batch code etched into the bottom of the glass bottle. I think hard to fake. It smelled fairly good and like my other bottle, but less citrus and pine was not recognizable. On tge bottom of the bottle I could make out London, which is where most are made. But my bottle also has Barcelona Spain ? It has a very masculine spiciness. But I don't like it as much as my 7 year old bottle. Does anyone know of a different formulation made in Barcelona? PS: I asked AI and found the owner of Penhailigan's is Spaish and moved some production to Barcelona Spain. I liked the older made in London bottles. If you liked the old version it may be worth it to get vintage.

This smells very clean, without being neither powdery nor soapy (I especially do not care for powdery). The opening citrus notes do not last very long, although they're wonderful for the time they're there. Then, the woody notes come through. I smell a wonderful cedar note, whereas most smell pine. Regardless, it's magnificent. No wonder Blenheim Bouquet been around so long. It's not a predator fragrance, begging for everyone to notice it, and I doubt most would consider it sexy. It's super fresh and clean, and all phases of the scent are wonderful. It's a masculine scent in my mind, except for maybe the first 30 minutes or so, where I believe it could be unisex.

The first time I tried this was when I bought a men's gift set (4x5ml scents) to re-familiarize myself with the Penhaligon's brand after 13 years.(2005-2018) I took my sample on holiday but I was traveling with my dad who, being used to cheap cologne, helped finish (waste) it in 2 or 3 days. I had to get more. So after my holiday I bought a new (10 scent)sample box at the same time that I bought Endymion. After using Blenheim again I put it on the list for my next shopping splash. This might not be for +20 or (wannabe) young +30 people but it is class and will definitely make a statement. And longevity? Breakfast to lunch. That's enough in my book.

Bought a 5ml decant of this just to make sure I didn't have anything similar in my collection. Has the same vibe to me off the spray as AdP Essenza di Colonia and Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia, but on the drydown this has more personality when the pepper kicks in gently. This comes across as versatile Lime/Pine or even Lemongrass overall, and I love it! Gotta love the performance too.... it lasts 4-5 hours thereabouts on my skin, and much longer on the clothes. Also projects well at 3,4 feet away in the first hour. No complaints at all, perfect for a regular day at the office. Looking to get a full bottle as soon as my lime frag runs out.

Blenheim Bouquet is one of the vials that came in my Penhaligon's 10 pc sample set I purchased in Epcot UK this summer. I am trying it today for the first time, and instantly liked the scent off my skin. There is a prominent lemon/lime opening with a good amount of pine, and now that it's beginning to dry down I can pick up some of the pepper. I also smell a little rosemary or herbal/green mixed in the dry down as well. I think this scent opens unisex, but drys down a bit more masculine. Will put this on my short list with Halfeti, Quercus, and Juniper Sling as my favorites from the house so far.

It's simple, unobtrusive, clean, and calming. I love it.

When I bought this, I thought I was buying a citrus fragrance and yes, the top notes are definitely heavily citrusy but the drydown was pepper'ish and the citrus disappeared, which was very disappointing, to me...and not a sharp pepper a la Poivre Samarcande by Hermes or Poivre 23 by Le Labo, but a very "gawky" pepper...Not buying a second bottle for sure! BTW, I love Penhaligon as a frag house and my favorites are Douro, Extract of Limes and Castile but Blenheim is nowhere close to being in this league of legends !!!

It smells exactly like my Nana's powder room, I can't explain it. Not a bad thing necessarily, but the first thing that came to my mind, which made me laugh. It makes perfect sense Churchill wore this. In fact, I would imagine this fragrance is generally nostalgic for many. STRONG lemon open, does gradually fade into the pine and lavender notes. Pleasant, unoffensive fragrance. Unlike Bois du Portugal, despite the scent being reminiscent of the abodes of my elders, this would be perfectly fine for a young man to wear.

Archetypal citrus fourgere cologne and considering it's age ( 125 years young ) it's definitely one of the originals. Mine's not that old but it's vintage. It's all sharp , clean lemon and lime ( anyone who misses Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian Limes will love this ). There is some pine and lavender but it's not at all dominant. Unusually for citrus top notes, they hang around ( or did in this version ). I can see the comparison to Eau Sauvage too. Perfectly unisex. I'm female but I'll be wearing this, this summer.

This used to be my daily fragrance... I absolutely adored it. I still do. Unfortunately for me, it didn't last on my skin, so a 100ml bottle would only last me a few months. I can't justify the high price every few months. But what an incredible scent. It's such a versatile fragrance that can be worn everyday at any time. Sparkling citrus that has a pepper edge to it. Beautifully balanced with nothing overpowering. It's just a shame that it doesn't last long. Thanks for reading.

Just put this as my signature fragrance. Good fragrances with PINE are getting rare. This has a nice pine note that is so comforting to me. It was hard to pick out sometimes, but as I am revisiting it today after a long lay off, I get it. The fresh and zesty accord of lemon and pepper are great, and the nice soothing lavender just make it the perfect signature scent. Simple, great, classic.

I'm seriously falling in love with this house! Blenheim Bouquet is another gorgeous creation. The opening is a brilliant mix of sweet citrus and lavender, which then subsides to make way for a thyme tea drydown. This is exactly what traditional thyme (or herbal mix) tea smells like in my country, Bulgaria. It makes me think of cosy blankets, rainy days and the mountains.

This is a classic citrus-forward, Men's cologne with so much backbone and character to the fragrance that it maintains a connection to modern palates. The beauty here is really in the dry down - probably 2 hours into wear, once the citrus has faded into a piney-lavender-musk a wonderfully cool-spicy facet is revealed that's really hard to get right in perfumery.

A classic that marks out Penhaligon's pedigree, originality and sparkle. The opening is abundant in Lemon and Ginger, with more subtle Lime and Lemongrass notes. The Lavender and Musk support and fill out the fragrance with a pleasing and refreshing feel that sits close to the skin. Needs reapplication every few hours. A great, if somewhat fleeting, fragrance.

8.5/10. As a female I would buy this perfume even though it is for men. This is my favorite Penhaligon’s perfume and is most interesting. I do not think it is too masculine. It is pure without much musk and even though girly floral notes are absent, the pine and herbal blend is just right for me. Relaxing, comforting and slightly stimulating at the same time.

I bought this and the shaving soap for the man in my life. It's simply amazing to walk in and smell this when he's shaving and spritzing. This is the most happy pleasant scent of peppery limes. I think I love it more than he does. I actually can't wash my hands in his bathroom without sneaking a sniff from the bottle. It smells super expensive and classy.

Bright Peppery Citrus, backed by slightly astringent balsamic notes. Top is a bergamot bomb. Lemon is listed as the key top note here, and there is lemonyness there, but for me it's in your face bergamot. Fresh, clean, and invigorating. Dry down is a mostly pepper with just a hint of pine needles. decent projection, EDC-level longevity.

Truly Stunning !! Timeless Masterpiece !! I just had to repeat those words which many others below very rightly said about this. Yes citrus-forward in the beginning, but settles down to a more complex beauty especially with the pines !! and yes in its mid phase, Agua Brava shares similarity with this. Never to be missed.Beautiful.

Lemon, Lime and Pepper are the main notes I receive but, you know the Lavender, Pine & Musk are the glue faintly holding it altogether. The combination of Lemon and Pepper feign a ginger like nuance. . Realistic and high quality. The Pepper gives it masculinity. Very similar to, Bayolea without the warmth and Cedar.

Stunningly classic - probably considered to be more traditionally masculine but would make a lovely summer scent for anyone. I would love to smell this on anyone. It smells quite timeless - it's missing the heavy ambroxan note that most modern men's fragrances come with (and is all the better for it).

Blenheim Bouquet is a great mix of citrus (I get bergamot and lime) and light woody notes (very light lavender and a hint of pine)...an absolute classic that would smell great on anyone...I love these "historical" perfumes...they really are a time capsule to another time, another world...

I can't pinpoint how I feel about this. Massive burst of lemons which then almost completely disappears, leaving something mossy, tangy and slightly antiseptic. I think it might be a grower though. I will keep trying and see if I can isolate this one. Complicated.

Classic, lovely, and refined, Blenheim Bouquet is citrus artfully wed to lavender, with depth added by pepper and beautiful pine. It is simple, lasting, elegant, and uplifting. This truly extraordinary fragrance is worth seeking out. It is my signature scent.

Beautiful lemon lime musk opening that lives throughout the life of the frag, but the pine and pepper peep through... this is one I had to wear multiple times to appreciate the nuances and longevity of this scent. Dior homme cologne with prestige.

Refreshing on a summer day! The top totally reminds me of cold, fresh, good iced gin & tonic. a hint of citrus, aromatic piney woods, nice and clean. for me , this is a really enjoyable pick me up. Definitely working towards a full bottle!

I like the lemon and the pepper as well as the atmosphere its marketing creates. But after finishing my second bottle, I think it is time to move on. It is overpriced and doesn't last long, it fades away very fast.

Limoncello on the rocks in a perfume bottle, i cant believe this incredible scent has been with us since 1902, a summer staple.

Smells great, doesn't last long on skin for sure, but on clothes it lasts all day easily. Good stuff.

I've held off on reviewing until my bottle ran out, something that took more than two years. I've had mixed thoughts about Blenheim during that time. Sometimes I thought it awful bland, other days I adored it. Although I never outright hated it, for something to last two years is a lifetime on terms of my collection. I have been known to wear quite a bit! I burn through a bottle of Hammam Bouquet every two months. Despite writing a horrible review slamming it, my Savoy Steam did not last long and I'm on bottle two. I digress. After all this time, Blenheim is a joy. It's a simple beauty, it is fresh, airy and open. It doesn't ever cloy, it always uplifts. It does it in a very refined way. This smell isn't going to shock anyone but it does impress. It feels refined and well made. Where does it fit in the Penhaligons lot? Well for me it is mid pack, but I can see why it has been a bestseller for so long. I think Douro is a more interesting but less universal take. Zizonia is more classy. Lord George is more current and Castile does the citrus better. English Fern outdoes it in every way. It is better than almost all the portraits and a lot of the newer but not new stuff like Juniper, Endymion and Quercus. It is still a huge classic despite being over shadowed by some of its stablemates. It is piney and metallic without loosing its citrus freshness or mostly lavender hint of floral. Despite being originally made in 1902 this would be at home in most decades, especially the 90s. If you oversmell it and try to find deep depths from it you will be disappointed. This is one to just enjoy and let be not to overanalyse. Side products that I tired: The soap is lovely. The showergel classy if a little bland. The powder was disgusting despite the lovely packaging. The deodorant was excellent but is no longer made (as an aside any fan of Penhaligons now discontinued deodorants will find the Geo F Trumper ones a good replacement). I think this smell does encapsulate the grandest of English houses. I will probably get another bottle, it will probably take me years to use up as I won't want to wear it everyday or cover myself in it but that's OK, because when in the right mood this is unbeatable.

Amo questo genere di fragranze ma questo Penhaligon's non è stato niente di eccezionale come mi sarei aspettato, sicuramente a mio parere l'errore è stato compiuto nella testa con il limone cui la contemporanea aggiunta di LIME in maniera copiosa ha reso "il volo del profumo" qualcosa di talmente pungente da far chiudere occhi e naso! Più prodotti di questo genero sento più cresce in me la convinzione che: i limoni, il lime, il bergamotto non devono essere mescolati in una fragranza i loro oli essenziali devono essere assoluti, portano con sè già un elevato potere acido da non avere bisogno di sovrapposizioni. Mentre arance, clementine, mandarini etc etc essendo più dolci possono essere messi contemporaneamente. Comunque appena spruzzato è per almeno la prima ora è uguale a " Oranges and Lemons Say The Bells of St. Clements James Heeley ", altro prodotto che non mi aveva fatto impazzire. Purtroppo per me che sono amante del genere agrumato-citrico questo prodotto per quanto discreto non ha soddisfatto le mie aspettative peccato! Profumo 6,5/10 Longevità 7,5/10 Sillage 7/10

Very lemony on the open, in a slightly sweet and pleasant way. This is quick and passing but very pleasant. It should be noted how great these citrus notes are, very much the fruit, not a citrus scent. Juicy, full, 3d Next we get a bit more lavender as the citrus fades but this isn't lavender that is sharp or spiky. It's soft, a bit sweet, and gentle. I was prepared to hate this, I do not enjoy lavender notes, especially in mid or base, but this is really tolerable. Pleasant even. The base starts to show shortly after as the woody and pine accords come to bear, but we are maintaining a light, fresh, slightly sweet atmosphere. This is not resinous or balsamic, not terribly piney even, just the fresh coniferous vibe to balance everything out. Definitely see the parallels to him that are referenced in respect to this. Maybe a nice gin tipple will help me mellow into it, that can never be the wrong choice. Surprisingly great scent still holding its own strong after 120+ years. Cool for the history alone, but this is a better scent that an whole tonne that is available.
