Daphne Bouquet

Oh my freshness.. this is a blooming beautiful bouquet!! To understand this perfume, you firstly need to understand what the flower of a Daphne plant smells like. This semi-evergreen shrub flowers in late winter/early spring and has a beautiful intoxicating aroma that can scent an entire garden. I have a compact Daphne Blafra in my garden that’s native to the UK and Ireland. It’s small, with white, pink flushed flowers and smells amazing. If you’ve never smelt Daphne before, these intensely fragrant blooms draw your nose is as you try to identify the aroma. It’s easier to say “Well, Daphne smells like Daphne”, but to try and describe it; well, it’s a unique and unforgettable fragrance but it also has a familiarity about it as your nose identifies different profiles that remind you of other flowers. It’s like a sweet but bright floral mix of rose, jasmine, honeysuckle and orange blossom but with a spicy hint of zesty ginger, white sugar and creamy lemon. And it’s captured beautifully in this perfume with Penhaligon’s Daphne flower accord. It opens with a bright, zesty, floral fresh announcement. To my nose, the cassis is more noticeable here and keeps the Daphne vibrant and super fresh. As it settles into the middle the sweetness of the Daphne becomes more noticeable as the cassis settles. Just like the Daphne flower, your nose starts to think “rose, no jasmine, no orange blossom”. But it’s not a heady mix, it really is so fresh and bright. The moss is perfectly used to keep the freshness ongoing. This isn’t oakmoss with an earthy, woody and almost smoky fragrance. Penhaligon’s have selected fresh moss that has just received an April shower. This is clean, reviving, crisp and green and settles into a dry down of a high quality Daphne bouquet of fresh cut flowers of sweet, but not too sweet, bright, ever so slightly spicy, green floral, a tiny hint of powder and creaminess.. but it is fresh, fresh, fresh, it makes my eyes pop! This is beautiful and I really like it. It is a super fresh summer floral, beautifully and artfully blended and it’s Daphne done really, really well. The timing of the release of this perfume is also perfect, as the UK struggles with the heatwave and humidity, this fragrance is the polar opposite of the heady, edible gourmands and a welcome bright beauty to my nose.

Daphne Bouquet is the first perfume in ages that made me stop mid-errand and think: oh. You. It opens like a cool hand to the forehead, a respite in evergreen air, a hush of shade. Blackcurrant flickers, but not the catty cassis of leaf-bud thiols, more fruit than fang sporting a damascenone glow with a most elegant brush of verdancy. Juicy, but equally green, equally clean. The daphne appears as a soft white flare, like honeysuckle except rewritten in silver ink rather than gold. Sporting a hyacinth-y twinkle, the whole bouquet is kept translucent, almost dewy. A soft rose leans forward and someone—bless them—slips in a pinch of ginger. Amazing. Underneath, the “evergreen” at the top returns as breath rather than bark, terpenic vitality smoothed by pale woods and soft moss. Nothing powdery, nothing thick; more the cool of shaded stems after rain. The whole thing stays crystalline, never congeals. The balance, that's what I love about it. Cassis without sulfur, white florals without the haze, lift over lush. A warm thumbprint into a chilled glass. I tested it on two separate occasions, just to end up circling the mall twice each time to ponder going back for more. Rain-washed greens and soft pinks. Mmph. If you need me, I’ll be the person pausing at corners, sniffing my sleeve, wrist, sleeve, then that ridiculous move where you smell your hair for any remaining sliver. All whilst smiling like an idiot. For Daphne, I might break the no-buy detox. Just sayin'!

This is an absolutely gorgeous green chypre. It’s not as floral as one might think given the name, although some floral facets do make an appearance a bit later in the drydown. The black currant note is slight, playing second fiddle to the green mossy freshness of this composition. To me it brings to mind vivid images of walking through a lush unmanicured English garden or an old park that is rich in shrubbery, just after the rain. There is almost an earthy petrichor note just in the background, making the whole moss-green effect very vivid and lifelike. In my opinion this is absolutely unisex and quite a delight to wear any time of day. Because walks in the park or in lush gardens are activities that bring me instant joy and pleasureis, Daphne Bouquet is to me, quite literally a scent of happiness.

Such a refreshing, sparkling, fresh green scent that has a wonderful balance of tartness, tea-like scent, which I gathered is basically how daphne can smell like. Orange blossom and jasmine mix is definitely a good description - not overly sweet, and keeps one awake without becoming sharp in any sense (at least to me). The longevity is amazing on me (lasts from day to night without respraying), projection is also incredible. Even after an evening shower, I could still smell wafts of it from an arm's length. I live in hot and humid weather though (and it's perfect for that), so I wonder if this helped. I know it has no tea notes of any sort but that comes to my nose, and I would use this over The Yulong, Wu Long Cha etc. Love it so much I got a backup bottle (since it's a limited production).

I have tried this perfume from a free sample. The opening is very green and sparkling. As the perfume dries, it becomes more aromatic and earthy. It has that herby and citrussy freshness that you can smell in Goutal perfumes, like Eau du Sud or Eau d'Hadrien. Within 20 minutes I can smell flowers and some sweetness but it is still green and sparkling and fresh. And very, very elegant. Absolutely stunning. The drydown is earthy, fresh spicy and slightly sweet. 💐💖

A charming, enchanting floral scent with a delicate honeyed sweetness. Refined and elegant. One can easily imagine a distinguished lady or royal wearing it in the tranquility of a countryside estate. With moderate projection, it announces itself in a subtle way, close to the skin.

This is a genuinely lovely fragrance... I know reviews aren’t supposed to start like this, but I couldn’t help myself. If you enjoy the L.O.D.L.E. vein, there’s a good chance this will appeal to you as well. First and foremost, it is not "sweet" at all, and the fruity facet is nothing syrupy or cloying. It doesn’t scream “I’m fruit; I’m here to overwhelm you with sticky fructose”. Instead, it feels natural; almost like an unripe fruit rather than a ripe, juicy one. Most of what follows leans green: leaves, stems, and yellow flowers. These florals are particularly interesting, evoking something closer to a mix of yellow daisies and marigolds; wild, pom-pom-like yellow flowers with floating pollen, slightly bitter and tangy, quietly intoxicating. There is a mossy impression in the base, but not in a classical chypre sense. It feels more atmospheric than structural, almost there to add depth rather than define the composition. Abundant leaves and moss accompany this yellow floral bouquet, and together they create something truly striking. The overall impression is pure springtime. I’m genuinely captivated. I get a lemony/fresh laundry cleaning product on first spray, but not bad. I have never smelled Daphne flowers, but I wonder if that is this. Update: I have since researched that Daphne often smells like orange blossom and jasmine. This is absolutely what I’m smelling. I get a bit of citrus and a bit of jasmine, which is the Daphne flower. After carefully smelling, I get hit with the oakmoss. So far I’d say it’s crisp yet a bit mossy, overall quite green. I also get some of the petrichor facets that people mention (I don’t, however, get the fizziness). Good for a woman in her late 20s. Not much projection, feels like it sits intimately. Meant to be a garden scent, but I don’t get a floral garden scent from this. I can barely detect a tiny bit of sweetness which may be the black currant. It is sophisticated and pretty but... a tad underwhelming. I feel like I’ve smelled similar types of things before. It’s pretty but I think this is a 6/10 in my search for a wedding perfume. It’s nice, but it doesn’t stand out.

Official notes: Daphne, blackcurrant leaf, and moss The official release for this perfume is 16th of June. I don't usually end up liking perfumes with moss as it comes across as leathery and smoky, but this is really fresh and summery with a good projection/sillage. It's fruity in the opening (not sure which note it's coming from as it's supposed to be currant leaf, not fruit) and the leaves in this smell green like tomato leaf, although it's cassis. I do get the moss in the drydown but it is a very sophisticated, zesty accord that feels really elegant. For a fresh fragrance, I got nearly 4 hours of wear with a decent projection, which is impressive for the newer Penhaligon's releases. The depth is more peppery and sophisticated than Blackberry & Bay. This performs like an actual perfume, while the Jo Malone is a cologne that lasts 1 hour or less.

I was so excited at the prospect of a daphne-scented perfume that I ordered an expensive bottle of this Penhaligon limited edition offering completely untested. The aroma is not unpleasant, being somewhat crisp, green, and mossy, but it's a very quiet scent and, so far as I can tell, completely devoid of any of that divine aroma for which Daphne odora is so justly admired. Although I can't find mention of it here, I believe that I may be smelling mostly galbanum in the top, tinged only with a faint bit of blackcurrant. The perfume fades to nothing on me after only a couple hours. I'm not aware of any particular notes in the drydown. All in all, I'm pretty disappointed, although the perfume is still pleasant. I cannot smell any florals at all, and this is really surprising....considering the name and the venue.

This is the first chypre fragrance that I find myself liking. There’s this freshness and yet mysterious richness. I love the moss note in here which complements the Daphne flower, though I’ve never actually smelled this flower. The blackcurrant I can pick up as well. A simple and well done fragrance that I can appreciate its quality. This is not the scent profile I lean towards, so I’m likely not going to buy a full bottle of this one for myself, but perhaps for someone else that I think better matches!

Realistic flower scent, dries down to something a bit woodier eventually but to me was mostly just one note the whole time. Nice enough but not one I'd buy.

As a fan of Penhaligon’s, I just got an official brand new sample tube from the authorized retailer. I was expecting “Daphne odora( Jinchoge ) “ and this perfume didn’t smell of it. I asked couple of people to confirm if this smells like “Daphne odora “ and they said “Definitely, Not. “ Under sunny&humid weather, 34 degrees Celsius. On my skin woody and earthy tone shows up ( vetiver? I smelled something not moss ) the most and it just not matched with my personality. It was not unpleasant but a little bit masculine touched. I will try another day and will update for sure, i hope i will feel floral and fruity.

1.5 mL sample Green, mossy and fruity/floral. It comes across as very elegant similar to Highgrove Bouquet and this seems to be a second addition of a new line by the house. Definitely for a more mature crowd. The major flaw with this is that while very British, its not very original. In this case most people would prefer spending money on Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay for a fraction of the cost.

Remember that scene in Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino in which his character Frank is a blind Colonel boards a flight to New York City, and figures out the name of the Stewardess just by her scent? well he particularly deducted the hostess name is “Daphne” because that woman’s perfume is, a british brand fragance... He had a weird theory about Californian women with british brand perfumes, It just brought back the memory of that scene Charlie Simms: How did you know her name? Lt. Col. Frank Slade: Well, she's wearin' an English cologne. But her voice - is California chickie. Now, California chickie bucking for English lady. I call her Daphne.

At first the blackcurrant made it smell quite mass-appealing for me, I wished it was more mossy, but over time this scent has grown on me. It’s nice! Curious to see how it performs in the winter. The moss-fruit combo reminds me of Gris Dior. Although they don’t smell similar, they’re the same genre. It’s spring and I tested it again, it does lack complexity, there are no middle notes or base?! Just a beautiful beginning that fades into moss and a sugary leftover from the berries. Is the very charming beginning worth a full bottle? I start to think perhaps no....

Daphne Bouquet is a traditional green mossy chypre. If you like traditional chypres you will like this fragrance. It's a bright and very green scent. Very well done, kudos to the perfumer. I didn't like it originally, but on repeated wearings, I am appreciating the quality of this fragrance. The final drydown is a fresh, green floral beauty. The blackcurrant note is used to great advantage to highlight the daphne flower scent. Give it a chance to fully develop on your skin and I think you will fall in love with it, too.

Absolutely stunning fragrance for Spring. Opens almost a bit vegetal (which I adore), but softens into a soapy green classic chypre. Reminds me of childhood walks through the manicured hedged mazes. Goes dry in the dry down compared to the fruity opening. Very classy, elegant, and understated. Would make a stunning signature scent. Auntie Kiki would certainly add this to her repertoire of real “old money” scents.

As a lifelong Penhaligons fan whose late mother’s name was Daphne, I am looking forward to trying this new creation. I note people saying it’s similar to Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay, which is an autumn favourite of mine, so I hope I love this!

Genuinely awful. Just green and sharp in a way that had me turning up my nose. Maybe Daphne after she realized Fred was trap-sexual.
