pon the initial spray, you are greeted with a airy yet rich vanilla scent. If you’ve ever tried divinity candy, you might recognize that scent profile. This vanilla is complemented by a delightful green pine aroma that is present only at the opening. After about two minutes, the pine dissipates, leaving behind the vanilla, now accompanied by notes of pepper and incense smoke. At this point, the scent is quite strong, and the vanilla incense can quickly lead to a headache if you accidentally overspray. About ten minutes in, I began to pick up on saffron and leather notes, which joins the vanilla, creating a smoother and less overpowering fragrance. Once these notes appeared, I started to truly appreciate the aroma. The rich combination of vanilla, leather, and incense is expertly blended, with each scent complementing the others beautifully. This phase of the fragrance projects noticeably off my skin, creating a scented bubble of about three feet. One of the most impressive features of Eau de Audacity is its longevity. Even after five hours, the aroma remained distinct and was still noticeable close to my skin. The perfume continued to linger until my shower, a remarkable nine hours after I first sprayed it. When I first sprayed this fragrance, I recognized its scent profile, but I couldn't quite identify it. After researching the perfumer and discovering it was Dominique Ropion, everything clicked into place. This fragrance closely resembles Baby Cat by YSL which was also perfumed by Dominique. The fragrance resemle eacth other well particularly with thier combination of vanilla, incense, pepper, and leather. Interestingly, Dominique appears to have created a dupe of his own perfume for YSL and then developed it for Penhaligon's. Lastly I find it interesting how Dominique released Baby Cat, which retails for $295 for 4.2 oz, in 2022. In 2023, he launched Audacity at Penhaligon's for $300 for 3.4 oz. The similarities are striking, especially in the initial notes of vanilla and pepper, followed by later hints of saffron and leather. If you are a fan of Baby Cat and want a similar scent profile but from a niche house instead of a designer brand, this is a great option for you.

Ok so first things first, yes, this is very clearly inspired by Babycat. The biggest difference is that they’ve swapped the leather for incense, which honestly works really well. As for the scent itself, make no mistake, this is a vanilla fragrance. Not a “vanilla and xyz” fragrance, just straight up smooth, loud, rich vanilla with the other notes supporting it quietly in the background. The incense and leather style smokiness sit tucked neatly behind the vanilla rather than beside it, giving it depth without ever taking over. The rose and saffron are clearly doing something to smooth everything out, but you’re not going to be pulling them apart note by note. Performance is excellent. It lasts all day on clothes and around 8 to 10 hours on skin, with strong projection for the first 4 to 5 hours. It performs exactly how you’d want a sweet vanilla fragrance to perform. Overall, this is an incredible unisex gourmand. Sweet, smooth and ridiculously addictive. Now here’s the important bit. If you do not already own Babycat or Eau de Audacity, this is a fantastic option. But if you’re shopping with actual financial sense in mind, Rifaaqat is still the one people should be buying. I own Rifaaqat, I own this, and I have a Babycat sample, and hand on heart I cannot tell you that either Penhaligon’s or YSL are giving you a £230 better experience. Rifaaqat does not smell synthetic, it avoids the harsh opening some vanilla fragrances have, and it performs on the exact same level as both of them. At a certain point we genuinely need to stop rewarding ridiculous pricing and start teaching brands like Penhaligon’s and YSL a lesson in economics. So unless you’re absolutely loaded, just buy Rifaaqat. It gives you basically the exact same experience for about £25, and honestly that’s borderline absurd value.

The perfect Babycat dupe - except for the price! I love this. It smells almost exactly like Babycat, but without the suede note. The suede note was a big reason why I couldn't fully commit to Babycat, because after a few hours you end up smelling literally like a suede jacket with no pepper or vanilla left. I would say if you are dying to get your hands on Babycat but can't find it, this is a really close match, like 90% the same, the only difference to my nose being the lack of a suede note. This is smoky and sexy, a very sophisticated black pepper vanilla. I don't really get saffron or leather, just pepper, incense smoke and vanilla. It's perfect for parties, autumn or winter days and nights. I think it's too heavy to wear during the day time in spring or summer but could work as a sultry summer evening scent. I find it long lasting and with decent projection. The only drawback is the price. Ideally a dupe is cheaper, but this is very expensive. In the UK a full bottle of this costs £200 (about $250), which is absurd, and pretty much the same price I see Babycat going for in department stores here. I think if I were pressed to choose one or the other I would chose this one, because of the lack of suede, but to be honest I struggle to see myself paying £200 for either, even if it is full bottle worthy. I have been buying 5ml decants from my fav sample website and just using those, and that works fine.

Badonk-a-donk-donk. This perfume is certainly worthy of it's name. It is absolutely audacious, in every sense of the word. It revs my mucky engine, and keeps it ticking over. A fandabbydosy, well rounded, sweet vanilla scent, spliced with patchouli and some dirty hippie joss sticks. It doesn't sound like a lot, does it? But fuck me, it's so extravagant and beautiful. It also has absolutely ridiculous performance. Both the sillage and longevity are off the charts; it'll stick to your skin like glue and stay there until you wash it off, but even after a wash, it's ghost will remain. Like an STD that doesn't respond to antibiotics. I smelt this in the Penhaligons shop, and felt an instant, mysterious connection to it. It is definitely not a perfume for summer; it's heavy, sticky nature will make you feel a bit unhealthy and overweight, when the ball of fire in the sky burns the hottest. But, like a struggling alcoholic, I will be straight back on it's bandwagon as soon as the weather gets colder. If smoky scents are not your thing, look elsewhere in the Penhaligons arsenal. But, if like me, you are always looking for new ways to experience smoke profiles, have a fiddle with this little ditty. You won't regret it. 9/10. It is definitely a season-dependent wear, so that loses it a point.

Eau Yes! I am very happy to have this scent in my collection. It is such a treat. Dominique Ropion has done a few versions with very similar scent profiles (YSL Babycat, Vanagloria). I love them all, but this one is my favourite. Of all of them Eau de Audacity smells more well blended and less screechy to me. No rubber smell with this one. It is sweeter and more feminine leaning. It is delicious and comforting. It has a slight green, fizzy note in the opening that is very pleasant. The longevity is shorter lived than Babycat and it does not project as beastly. This makes it much more wearable. I am also in love with the beautiful bottle. It is so quirky. Like all good “potions” this one works a charm 😉

This is gorgeous! It's very potent so spray sparingly! It's an incredibly sweet vanilla offset by dark sumptuous incense, spicy green notes and a bit of pleasant funk/animalic quality. It has a heavy, thick feel to it, like wearing a velvet cloak that envelops you, and I can physically feel the spiciness and almost a bit of smoke in my nose when I inhale. This fragrance will fill a room and will definitely draw attention, so the name is very fitting. I also think it could be very polarizing, attracting some and intimidating others, so it feels almost like a protection spell.

This reminds me a lot of Encens Suave. Not loud or challenging to me but I'm a big fan of Day Three Aylan which has a crazy potent rubbery oud opening. I haven't smelled Babycat so I can't compare but I'd imagine it's rougher as well. I get soft vanilla incense with some leather and animalics popping around to make it much more interesting and fun to wear. I almost see this as a perfect cool summer night fragrance, but best for a fall or winter day. I can't fail to mention the bottle is really stunning as well. I'm happy to have this in my collection.

I had the chance to smell all of these apothecary versions at Harrods. I was torn between this and Balm of Calm and ultimately chose BoC but regret it due to the lavender being stronger than I’d like. I love a vanilla that isn’t sugary and cute, and yhis is a very adult spicy vanilla. $300 USD as of today’s date; I want to say I paid $220-ish in London without VAT. It’s more worth that price, imo. For now, I will make do with my Elizabeth & James Nirvana Amethyst which isn’t similar but scratches a similar itch for much less. :)

i'm finding myself saying that i have a new favorite vanilla perfume almost every single week it seems. but hey, can you blame me? i don’t even know how to describe eau de audacity...but think snowflakes if they smelled like vanilla. almost like snowflakes and cashmere by bath and body works, but not quite exact either. a more grown version of dulce by rosie jane dare i say? either way, it makes me feel elegant yet sexy at the same time, and you will never be putting this bottle down either once you have it.

ooo i really liked this one! i currently own rifaaqat (babycat dupe) and this is much smoother, though as one user pointed out, it does lack that distinct sharpness from the saffron. while dupes of babycat might not be as smooth, however, eau the audacity is IMMEDIATELY very smooth upon spraying. i think this is a friendlier version of babycat/rifaaqat, and i think i even prefer it for this reason. less screechy or sharp, just pure round incense-y, leathery dark vanilla.

Slightly younger, cleaner(hygienic) , brighter years of BabyCAt (if have prequel story of this character). Same perfumerist, same note composition, projection i must say are the same. i don't know why this scent reminded me of my childhood where mom is baking a lemon-orange-pineapple soda chiffon cake. The leather + vanilla + saffron is as beautifully blended with ambergris making the scent sexier, but not as wild as BAbycat.

I was doing a side by side comparison with Babycat and forgot which arm I sprayed which fragrance on. They smelled 95 percent the same to me. Love both of them. Incense and vanilla and not a safe blind buy because you do get all kinds of references (see the other reviews) in this fragrance. EDIT: I retested and slightly prefer the Penhaligon's. It lasts a bit longer and is just more interesting.

Warmer, smoother version of Oud Blanc. Slightly masculine and non-overpowering vanilla with a nice hint of pepper. A lot less in-your-face than I expected, and longevity is quite good. I can still smell it on my skin without putting my wrist up to my nose hours later. My only complaint is that I would like a little bit more depth, but either way the fragrance is quite pleasant already.

I love this. I smelled it side by side with Babycat on a test strip at the store. The sales associate says this is more smooth. I agree. I was able to get a very good price on it, so I snatched it up, but will put it away until fall. I love the incense in this, but that note isn't as strong as it is in Encens Suave. I'd say unisex, leaning feminine. Lasts power is a bit above average.

Smelled this perfume for the first time on London, fell in love with it. I’ve got the sample and am eager to buy the full perfume! I really enjoy how the scent changes throughout the day, starting off very sweet but overtime you get a better sense of the leather and ambergris in the perfume. Very long lasting, and I’m glad of it. Wonderful perfume. (Apologies for bad English)

Absolutely delicious. Love it. Have this and Babycat, both beautiful and both created by the same perfumer, but I think this is superior, although I change my mind depending on the day, as they're both gorgeous. This lasts forever and just incredibly delicious, creamy, sexy and nuanced, sometimes I get a tire-like rubbery smell in there which I enjoy and don't get in Babycat.

Thanks to the reviewer below. I knew this smelled like something I was familiar with, but couldn't think of it. Very similar to Babycat! I would even go as far as to say I might get this because I can't find a full bottle of the YSL. 😄 Update: just received my bottle and wearing this a lot now. Longevity isn't the best, unfortunately, but it's beautiful.

When I first sprayed this on I GASPED. Because in that moment I smelled the best vanilla I had ever smelled. Quickly it turned into something similar to the smell of a spiritual store with incense and gemstones, but with the vanilla aura still around it. I have to admit it does smell a bit like rubber. Stil If I have the money to buy this, I will.

I prefer this one over Babycat, they are very similar but the frankincense is stronger in Eau de Audacity, whereas Babycat is more a vanilla-suede on me. I'd say this fragrance sits between Babycat and Matiere Premiere's Encens Suave, which is an even mix of vanilla and incense to me. I'd love a bottle of this, but not for full retail.

This is heavenly. I ordered the Penhaligon’s “potions and remedies” discovery set and this by far my favorite. Creamy leather vanilla with a subtle orange blossom water. The black pepper and frankincense give just enough of a twist to make this interesting but still completely wearable. I will be buying a full bottle!

This really might be the best vanilla of them all. I generally am not the biggest fan of pure vanillas, but this is not synthetic or nauseating as some of them can be. It's really good, to the point I feel like it could be a signature even for me.

Smells absolutely amazing on my husband. I would buy it in a second if it would only last longer! Opens up really shocking and sharp, but then settles down to lovely combination of vanilla + leather jacket + incense.

This is beautiful. It is well rounded and soft vanilla. It feels like a warm hug. I can see similarities between this and Babylon. When I put them side by side ETA comes through better in projection.

I don't like vanilla too much, this is the best vanilla I ever sniffed. It last forever! I don't get any hunts of sweet at all...very much a earthy vanilla!!!!! Love it so much.

Dominique Ropion’s masterpiece Babycat gets a sibling with Eau de Audacity. Slightly smoother and a touch sweeter than Babycat. Both are loves for me.

Lasts many days on clothes, I don’t know about you but I love spraying this into my pjs on a cosy autumn night. Very happy and a sweet smell <3

#50 of My Fragrance Journey - Penhaligon’s Eau de Audacity – The Unconventional Plunge This should’ve been a hard pass for me. On paper, it sounded like trouble - pepper, elemi, leather, incense - like it was gearing up to be this heavy, suffocating, mood-laden thing. I almost didn’t bother. But then I did what I always do: I got curious. So I sprayed it. And, well... I didn’t expect to fall for it. Yet here we are. The opening hits fast. Pepper and orange absolu - sharp, bitter, bright, spicy - like someone snapping their fingers right next to your ear. It’s not “fresh citrus.” It’s too brazen for that. It’s a jolt, a push, a slight “oh?” moment. And then, just as quickly, it tilts - changes temperature, changes tone. And I felt myself leaning in. Alchemy in the Shadows This is where it gets interesting. The orange blossom shows up with an attitude, threading itself through the vanilla and incense in this way that almost shouldn’t work. But it does. It really does. The incense gives this dark, resinous backbone; the vanilla warms everything from the inside; and the leather - suede-ish, soft but strong, quietly confident - like someone who knows exactly who they are but doesn’t need to shout about it. It’s smoky but not smothering. Sweet but never sticky. Warm, textured, a bit shadowy. It’s rebellious but controlled. A little dangerous, a little tender. It has that Penhaligon’s weird magic: elegance with a wink, softness with a smirk. It smells like someone who looks put together but definitely has a rebellious streak under the surface. The Lingering Truth And then the dry-down... honestly, that’s where it sealed the deal. It becomes this warm, slightly powdery, addictive hum that sits right on the skin. Not loud, not attention-seeking - just there, steady, confident, drawing you back in. With a whisper of incense still lingering like the tail-end of a story you’re not quite done hearing. 8–10 hours, easily. Eau de Audacity feels exactly like its name: a dare disguised as perfume. A shrug at anyone who thinks fragrance should follow rules. It’s surprisingly wearable, sophisticated without being stiff, and honestly magnetic. I didn’t expect to love it. I really didn’t. I blind bought this after falling in love with Babycat during a time that Babycat was only available to purchase by resellers at double the cost. I heard that Eau de Audacity is essentially the same and I’m not going to lie, I love the whimsical bottle and the name. As for the scent, it is similar to Babycat but I find Eau de Audacity more masculine. It is less sweet and has less vanilla. On my skin the leather in EDA is less sharp but a bit more rubbery. The spices in EDA come out more in the dry done vs the vanilla blooming more in the dry down of Babycat. They really are very similar and it would be silly to have both however, I am silly and I have both!! My 17 year old son smelled Eau De Audacity and fell in love with it. It is far from a juvenile scent and I don’t see many teenagers liking it, and typically giving a teen such an expensive fragrance would be excessive but it matches my sons young Mick Jagger style and his rebellious, guitar toting, wild long hair, and yes quite audacious personality! So I have allowed my son to adopt it! Funny enough, before I had ever heard of EDA, a very common phrase my kids and I say to tease one another is “oh the audacity”! Which makes the fragrance extra fun in my home. I personally prefer Babycat for myself as I love the beautiful vanilla but EDA is a terrific fragrance that I enjoy smelling on my son. I’m hoping to check out the other fragrances in this collection.

Compared to Babycat and Rosendo Mateu No. 5, Eau de Audacity is softer and less cloying. The longevity is shorter lived than Babycat and it does not project as beastly which makes it much more wearable. I don’t really get suede note here and no burnt tyre smell like Rosendo Mateau No. 5 but just smooth suede/leather and a delectable spiced vanilla drydown. Eau de Audacity opens with a cool, slightly minty edge that adds freshness to the spicy black pepper and incense. It’s not a literal mint note, but more of a mentholated or aromatic lift — like a breeze cutting through the warmth of saffron and leather. This minty nuance makes the composition feel more airy and modern compared to its denser sister Babycat. It gives the perfume a crisp, almost metallic coolness before it softens into its creamy vanilla–amber base. I do not really like Babycat or Rosendo Mateau No. 5 but I like Eau de Audacity and happily added a FB to my collection. And on another note, the bottle is so displayable.

A Vanilla-honey scent is what i get. It's kind of similar to Silky Woods minus the cinnamon, IMO (Haven't smell Babycat). Definitely, that vanilla scents stiks with you all day. Last on me, 8+ with 10 sprays including clothe. For the first 2 hours it will project very well. After that, is not a full skin scent, but the projection will start to decrease. After the 7 hour, it becomes more skin scent, but still you will get whifs of it. It's very soothing and you will feel like a delicious dessert waiting yo be eaten. Office safe and not offensive at all Unisex fragrance.

Out of Babycat vs. Eau de Audacity vs. Vanagloria (by Laboratorio Olfattivo), Vangloria wins for me! To my nose, Audacity's vanilla smells more like butter and popcorn which is fine but not what I want to smell in this fragrance. Babycat is more incense-ee / peppery and less sweet than both Audacity and Vangloria.. Out of the three, I would purchase a full bottle of the Vangloria - better balance of the incense and sweetness than the other two but I would probably still layer with another vanilla fragrance to reach my preference :-)

Lovely leather vanilla. Soft, cozy, clean, like snuggling in a fresh, fluffy, blanket on the couch in the fall. Also maybe fresh vanilla pipe tobacco. I recognize this as a beautiful fragrance but will not be getting a full bottle because it smells a lot like someone I worked with 10+ years ago. She was awful. Her signature perfume was nice, but she may have ruined this scent profile for me forever.

This fragrance is so well blended it’s hard to pick out any specific note. The fragrance is unique to my nose as I’ve never smelled baby cat by ysl. With that being said this isn’t my cup of tea and was a failed blind buy for me. The smell actually reminds me of palo santo which I love the smell of but I wouldn’t want to wear a fragrance that smells like it.

I purchased the discovery set and sprayed this on me- immediately I was reminded of a scent I loved but couldn't quite place it. Then, it hit me- it smells extremely similar to YSL Babycat, just a little bit less incensey/intense. It's a beautiful fragrance, and a good $100 cheaper than Babycat, if you're looking for an alternative.

It’s tamer than I thought but still got va va voom. It’s a beautiful balmy/waxy sweet and mature vanilla. Almost smells like fresh leather furniture but in a good way, (not overwhelmingly so). It’s slightly smoky (or rather incensy) and as it dries down, it gains a more dry spicy quality. The sillage and dry down are mesmerizing!

More of a bubblegum vanilla than a dry earthy one, I like it but it reminds me of a candle. If you like 'autumnal' scents you'll like this one but if you're prone to thinking ambery-vanilla scents smell like potpourri then this probably won't be for you.

Super gourmand, too sweet for me, on drydown(maybe just my chem) has a mushroom metallic scent that mixes with the super sweet and smells like straight up mildew, awful longevity, nausea inducing. Beautiful bottle!

I usually hate vanilla but this dries down to the cutest vanilla ever. Feels a bit teen-y and sweet but well composed

Oddly enough just as I think I'm sick of sub fougere nonesense from niche brands, this comes along and actually turns out to be one of the better ones in this collection, if not only for the fact that it's bold and lasts on skin, and not even all that well. Jeez. What has come to? Right so the opening is a mass of fresh citrus (assuming elemi) & orangey stuff (assuming that's the orange blossom accord?) and a great wallop of custardy, ethyl vanillin driven, fuckery. However it's encapsulted in a fougere warmth, a kind of medicinal, balsamic effect which is HEAVY. It's hard to know what to make of it really? Sickening triffle of vanillic notes or in actuality quite a rough, dense, hardcore coumarin fougere thing. I'd say this is more of a tonka fragrance than anything else, leaving a slightly coffee infused, spun sugar aspect, certainly more and moreso as it dries down. I can say that at least this has some balls to it, without totally annoying me, but in truth is, I can take it or leave it. It is the one in this collection which I found had a bit of tenacity, but it;s a twisted, dirty vanilla tenacity many folks won't like.

Eau the Audacity... Penhaligon’s does indeed have some audacity to release a fragrance which is nothing more than something heavily inspired by an already cloned-to-death scent profile. If you couldn’t tell already, it is none other than the scent profile of Dior’s Bois D’Argent. It’s that same combination of a sweet, creamy vanilla, frankincense and leather, and an overwhelming barrage of pepper attacking your nostrils. The thing with these sorts of fragrances is they’re never as good as the original version, which could not be more true in this case. It’s a nice scent, it smells pleasant and I can see why people enjoy it. But there’s no creativity here, no originality, this was simply made for a quick buck and Penhaligon’s will milk it relentlessly. Just buy Bois D’Argent and be done with it.

The vanilla! (with a hint of leathery incense.) If you are a vanilla lover, this might be the one for you. The impression of this scent is very sweet. I personally think this is more suitable for young sweet ladies. I am wearing it now and I feel like I am jumping into the vanilla cream! Perhaps it could be too offensive for the ppl around therefore applying it to the back of hands a tiny bit is more than enough. It's not my super favourite but it's still ok to wearing it occasionally.

While it does share some similarities with Babycat and Queen of the Night, at its core this fragrance leans much more heavily on frankincense and it has a sweet, church-like vibe with a noticeable synthetic edge. I can definitely sense the saffron and vanilla duo, but it came across a bit harsh to me, and the longevity was disappointing. Out of all the scents in the Remedies discovery set, this was the least intriguing one for me.

Hello, vanilla christmas tree. Dry down is all vanilla, my nose isn’t accomplished enough to understand this bad boy more than that as it is VERY prominent. It’s definitely a unisex scent, at first I was like oh this is nice! And then I went, “I smell like a Christmas candle.” This line is way overpriced! I cannot believe for the gentler sillage of this line they are trying to pull off this price point. Mon dieu!

A milder less interesting version of Rosendo Mateu No 5. My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

A definite try before you buy- I was shocked at my experience with this. On my skin, there is an earthy quality in the opening with not much sweetness coming through. Opening is borderline headache inducing for me. It's much more resinous than anticipated and even through the mid I don't get much vanilla on my skin. Projection dies down after about 3 hours. But even 6 hours in, I'm mainly getting frankincense on my skin. I can barely detect a vanilla which is such a bummer. In the deep dry down, I finally got vanilla (maybe 8 hours in?) but it was barely a skin scent by then.
