Juniper Sling

Beautiful fragrance with musky, spicy and sweet facets in perfect harmony and balance with a smooth and slightly dry juniper note. Many are complaining about the projection and longevity of this fragrance so I felt compelled to write a review in defense of Juniper Sling. This is a fragrance for individuals who aren’t interested in wearing really loud or hugely projecting fragrances. At the very least, it’s for people who just want to smell great for close intimate encounters or simply for themselves or work in an environment where fragrance is expected to be more demure, like a hospital or windowless office spaces. It’s not a club or party fragrance, the DNA doesn’t even suggest it, so why is there an expectation for huge projection? Not everyone is a performance junky and some of us like our fragrance to be discovered instead of slapping everyone in the face that comes within 10 feet of us. Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place for beastly fragrances, granted the actual scent or scent DNA permits it (i.e sweet, dark woods, spicy aromatic or gourmand fragrances) but NOTHING about Juniper Sling smells like it’s meant to be obnoxious or TOO IN YOUR FACE. It’s meant to be subtle... polite... and ✨DEMURE✨ Although it is a skin scent (as it is designed to be) I personally do not have any issues with longevity. I consistently get 5 to 7 hours longevity. Now, it’s a different story in colder climates. Anything below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, you’d be lucky if you get 15 minutes out of this lol. Overall, if you’re an individual who wants your fragrance to arrive before you do or fill up an entire room, I’d say skip this. But if you enjoy or are looking for something more genteel and urbane then this is a NO BRAINER. I’d say even blind buy worthy. It’s a beautiful unisex fragrance that I truly can’t see anyone disliking.

HELP! This stuff is great! I CANNOT move on since I touched Juniper Sling today and my initial plan was to sample 3,4 frags from the two order I received just now! In a world filled with too much white musk, bergamot, neroli, vanilla, gardenia, amber and oud... I consider myself incredibly lucky to find a fragrance like this. Juniper Sling is anything but the ordinary definition of a trending fragrance. It is fresh but not from citrus, mint or galbanum. It is woody, but contains no birch, pale wood or sandal. It is warm, but the impression is different from what you get from musk or incense. The spicy notes come from juniper and cinnamon (rather than cloves or carnation commonly seen in florientals) to give it a sparkly, fresh facet. A fragrance newbie like me can still instantly appreciate this witty composition. Started out really peppery and fresh with lots of juniper, vetiver, and some hybrid between white and black pepper. Later, the angelica along with orange/orris root bridge the herbal feeling nicely with the spicy cinnamon and cardamom. Here if you apply little (~2 sprays) then JP slowly disappears with just a liiiiiitle bit of cherry/sugar/juniper, but if you dose yourself another 3,4 sprays you get the leather that lasts through the drydown. Incredibly beautiful and intriguing! Now I don't really drink gin and tonic, but I'd say this is a perfect scent for people that connect deeply with nature. Someone mentioned Juniper Sling reminded him/her of walking through the forest. As an avid hiker I agree fully. Despite poor longevity I might really need to get a full bottle one day. [Update Mar.2015] I got a bottle and am so happy! All other pending purchases seem unnecessary now.

The scent that first made me want to wear perfume. It's a peppery gin cocktail with citrus bite that dries down into a sweeter orange scent, though this is one where the notes vary greatly both from person to person and from day to day. Some days, I get a full whiff of pepper and little else. Other times, I really detect the sticky sweet cherry and warm cardamom. I actually enjoy this aspect of the fragrance — it feels like there's always something new to discover. It never gets old. Penhaligon's scents often get a reputation of having weak performance; I've seen the other reviews criticising the longevity and projection of this fragrance, but I have to say that it lasts anywhere from 6 to 8 hours on me. It does sit very close to the skin, but I personally enjoy the more intimate experience of it. Definitely sample if you can, because I know longevity is a dealbreaker for many. I sometimes layer this with the Luna lotion, also by Penhaligon's, for a more floral blend. There's something very fresh and juicy about this scent that I am absolutely obsessed with. It's the perfect refreshing fragrance for a spring or summer day, perhaps accompanied by a citrus cocktail in hand. One thing I especially appreciate about it is the juniper and citrus combination, executed in a way that is unlike popular deodorants or body sprays but still maintains that juicy clean scent. But maybe I'm biased — it was my first love, after all.

So if you have ever owner or smelled mugler ice men this is pretty much the same scent except not as sharp and less projection and staying power to be honest i love this scent and its perfect for summer late spring on hot days its a refreshing smell like a nice mint julip or mojito in july lol but like i always say this is MY OPINION and the way it works with MY chemistry so it may be a total diffrent experience for you so get a decant sample or go to a store and sample it on YOUR SKIN not paper because your skin and clothes ate not made of paper so it will smell diffrent u get what i mean lol i wouldnt blind buy this to be honest because u might hate it but i did because i read it smelled like ice men and i loved ice men for summer so i knew what i was kinda getting so but it wouldnt offend anyone and is fresh so kinda safe to wear anywhere so ...but again opinions are like as****** EVERYONE HAS ONE so dont matter what i say or the next person or the person after that said it all matters what YOU think so be smart and get a sample or decant or sample at the store if its possible and make sure u dont waste 200$ or more on a bottle because blind buying at this price point is pretty stupid unless ur rich and have money to burn then who cares but im sure most of us here are not in that position unfortunately so be smart and try it out first lol

Sparkling, sweet and beautiful! What a great scent this is... it's like quenching your parched lips with an ice cold, fizzy, San Pellegrino. To me this is a perfect energizing summer fragrance. I was expecting a very gin like, juniper vibe which it does deliver but it also gives a sweetness, clean vetiver and a spiced vibe too. It's expertly blended to create a really intriguing fragrance which is uplifting as many have mentioned in their reviews. This stuff will genuinely cheer you up! The only problem I have and it applies to quite a few Penhaligon's (some of them are stronger) they have poor longevity and projection. This is among a few that are slightly more expensive than the rest of the range and I can't see why really? I like it that much that I may well add it to my collection despite this. Update: I was very tempted to buy this today, instead I was given some samples by a lovely lady in the Penhaligon's shop and will trial it on my skin over the next couple of weeks and see how we go on. It is a summer scent for me so maybe not a priority purchase. Make no mistake though I'm still as in love with it as I was at first sniff...a wonderful fragrance!

I've had Juniper Sling in my collection for a few years now. Somehow it keeps resisting being reduced to "gin scent". The juniper is so dominant that it's an easy association to make, but it's a surprisingly complex and multifaceted fragrance. Looking at the notes now, I'm a little confused. I could have sworn the orange was originally listed as lemon and amber as elemi? I certainly don't remember the cherry either, now that I think of it. To me it has a fresh, almost cooling character. Despite the listed notes it doesn't smell sweet at all. More like a cool, moderately salty sea breeze carrying authentic juniper with a side of tart citrus and a slightly herbal aspect. This is my go to fragrance for blisteringly hot days. In heat it lingers longer and is also one of the rare few fragrances that doesn't become absolutely nauseating whether on myself or someone else. The only thing I wish was different is the longevity. It really is more of an EdC concentration honestly. I'm not sure it it would be possible to retain the lightness and freshness of the fragrance in a higher concentration, but I would sure like a version that would last longer.

This is so Olivier Cresp. I knew I'd love it. It's Light Blue/I Love Love (that cinnamon!) with an initially very strong and punchy black pepper note. This was a no-brainer for me. Edit - Adding that I can't fathom Penhaligon's criteria for determining the gender designation of its scents. Juniper Sling is indeed truly unisex in my opinion (the pepper sways it just a tad to the masculine side) because the Light Blue DNA really can go either way and has thus inspired many scents across the masculine/feminine spectrum. However, all the other supposedly unisex scents that I've sampled from Penhaligon are either decidedly masculine: Quercus, Halfeti and Endymion Concentree, or feminine - like Luna. Now every person should of course wear whatever pleases them. It just puzzles me why the above scents were labelled unisex when their profiles fit perfectly with traditional conceptions of what makes a scent either masculine or feminine smelling. To my nose, nothing marks them as unisex at all.

This is yet another Olivier Cresp fragrance where he re-rendered his signature D&G Light Blue for women accord. Iso E Super, Ambroxan, Amberketal, Virginia cedarwood oil, cinnamon and white musks. This one smells like a very naked version of Light Blue for women, further Iso E Super-boosted version (the actual accord is already based on a hefty Iso E Super anyway)...Dsquared2 fragrances are without exception comes to mind because each and every one of them on the market today are built on a canvas of Iso E Super...I very much prefer Light Blue/Intense for women or Dsquared2 Green Wood for similar accord. Versace eau Fraiche uses the same skeleton accord. Molecule 01/Escentric 01 resemblance is expected too. The list can go on, it's done successfully many times and no denying that it's an irresistible accord. But yeah, for the price point, if you are not into the bottle or the brand much, your money would spent better with near-identical value in return on other similar blends.

Juniper berries are one of my fav fragrance notes, Olivier Cresp is one of my fave perfumers, Penhaligon's is one of my fave houses. Were my hopes high? Yes. Did it deliver? Yes. UGH I LOVE THIS so much. I am such a fan of so many fresh soft but complex juniper frags and this another LOVE <3 This one has a lot of comparisons to Esc 01, Esc 02, and Angelique Sous La Pluie; 3 frags I LOVE and I like this one most (but yes there's a definite similarity if you are a fan of any of the aforementioned). I love the slight Marseille soap and gentle sweetness that comes through in this one. It's fizzy and fresh, but warm and soapy. I feel like it's Escentric 02 x Obvious Un Fleur D'Oranger. Such a great signature clean soapy scent. Apparently Harry Styles smells like incredibly luxurious soap. I wonder if he wears this?

I got a Penhaligon's sample set and this one took me by complete surprise! I was not expected to love this! This smells like a winter walk in the Texas hill country, surrounded by trees and crushed juniper berries. This opens bright, fresh, woody, and citrusy. Some of the brightness and citrusy-ness fades as it dries down, though the notes are still noticeably present they take a back seat to the juniper and woody notes. I find it completely captivating and I can't stop smelling myself when I wear it. I love woody smells but find most of them too heavy or overbearing to wear as a young woman. This one is not! My only wish is for better lasting power. It definitely fades after a couple hours, but I love this fragrance enough that I plan to buy a full size anyway!

One of my go to fragrances for summer when I want to smell like I am on a lawn somewhere with a large G&T in hand for that sense of mental escapism. I find it a refreshing fragrance that does well in the humidity of the summer in Spain. The pepper note adds a touch of masculinity to the fragrance to the freshness. I do wish Penhaligon’s would make this in a parfum or concentre but for an Eau de Toilette I find it doesn’t do too bad - and can surprise with occasional wafts hours later. Personally though, I just would prefer it to be more ‘full on’ in terms of silage, projection and longevity as I quite like being enveloped in a scent. It would save me needing to carry a vapouriser to top up when I feel like it was lagging.

I love the drydown as much as I love the opening. I couldn't buy it without having to wait shipping etc ... so I heavily sprayed with a sample my left wrist and lightly my right wrist to ensure that whatever I smell in my quest to find smth similar will be properly compared. Well, there' was nothing out there as heavenly, that has the juniper in it and the freshness we find here. However ... few options compared as closely as possible to the drydown phase of juniper sling - - bvlgari the blanc - bois d'argent - adios pampamia woman - van arpels bois d'iris Fist one felt to be more sheer and musky and great for the warm seasons, the last one is the most powdery - wonderful all year round (the iris ...).

After long time thinking I bought myself 10ml to test it, as I remembered it to be weak. First impression - invisible fragrance! I sprayed it on myself and clothes and couldn't feel a thing after 2 minutes. Well, I thought, definitely not worth it. And later it all changed. It stays and stays now for clear 7 hours. Very nice fragrance, light but with the personality, and without annoying omnipresence of Molecules. And my husband said that he can feel it on me while walking together or sitting close. So, definitely a winner for summer season, without being obtrusive and annoying. P.S. I am ready to think that Molecules were created in essence to catch Juniper's Sling's charm but make it loud.

I feel like I'm missing something, seeing that most people prefer this as a summer/spring fragrance. I could understand if the opening lasted much longer than the 20 minutes I experienced, but in reality, I find that the rest of the time this fragrance remains active is more fitting for outdoor campfires during cool winter/spring days. The juniper lasts so long on my skin, and the warmth coming from the cardamom and cinnamon reminds me of the winter holidays. It also reminds me of a trip I made to the Texas hill country in the middle of December. The ashe juniper in the cold air while on horseback was a lovely experience, and Juniper Sling really brought me back to that feeling.

I first tried a sample that is included in the popular Penhaligon’s ‘scent library’, I loved it immediately. Juniper berries have a very distinctive aroma, and this fragrance is full of it; refreshing, uplifting and classy. Excellent longevity for an EDT, a credit to Penhaligons!. Sillage is OK and it doesn’t matter as long as I can smell it, and I do...for hours. The scent doesn’t evolve after the first spray, not a problem for me though, juniper berries are the star here and I love it. I can’t detect the base notes listed above, vetiver? sugar? cherry? amber?, this EDT has no sweetness at all, I would say its dry, crisp and uplifting. Now I have the 100ml bottle, hooray!.

This review definitely doesn`t belong to informative ones, as it is an excited one. I guess I`ve never smelled anything better before. Sometimes in the evenings when I work at home, especially when I do something boring, I apply this scent and it makes me happy, it makes me fly, it makes the space around me sparkling with joy! Of course it smells like gin and tonic, but in this case it`s a perfect solution. I definitely don`t smell any leather but pepper is very (not too!) loud which makes the perfume so cheerfully spicy. Very-very disappointing is that the longevity on me is short like a dream but to my nose it is still the best balanced, the most exquisite perfume ever.

I received two samples of this and WOW. I was not expecting to like this at all. I am in love. The initial spray is bright, fresh, and juicy? It's like someone opened a bottle of lemon spritzer on a hot day. It has a faint peppery smell but not at all overwhelming and complements the citric notes. When it dries down the cherry note comes out more. It's not at all like a sickly syrup cherry that most perfumes have. I find most fruit perfumes tend to smell overly artificial- almost bathroom freshener smell like but this is just so natural. A spray will last you at most an hour. I would definitely justify buying a full bottle if only the performance was better.

Such a fantastic spring summer fragrance, suitable for any gender and any age. It's really sings in the first 30 mins to an hour then slowly fades, leaving you with a much softer more rounded scent. The balance of smells are incredible. The juniper is ferocious at first buy then is rounded off with the orange and spiced up with the cardomon and warmed up with the amber. It's a scent that also lends itself well to layering, nd today I have worn it with ELDOs You or Someone Like You which is divine. I have bought the 100ml of this as it's just one of those purchases that you keep going back to when you want to feel fresh and sexy.

Smells absolutely delicious but can't even last through a date no matter how much I apply. If they release an EDP with better performance I wouldn't hesitate to buy a bottle. Edit: Previously I had the sample collection which doesn't have atomizers, I thought I was dabbing a lot on but apparently not. I ended up buying a full bottle and on my skin the performance is actually ok with a few sprays (never loud but detectable 5+ hours). I had to come back and give some credit. I bought the bottle because it's just too perfect for Christmas time here in the Cayman Islands, I was willing to bathe in it but I'm glad I don't have to.

One of those rare fragrances that morphs into something else entirely as it dries down. It starts just as you think it would, bright, boozy, and clean. The top notes are bit too on-the-nose with the alcohol for my taste (hey! it's supposed to be gin), but they burn off quick. The cherry and wood notes are prominent on my skin once it dries down, with maybe a touch of juniper leftover from the start. It smells great, really, like a fancy aromatic gin cocktail spiked with grenadine. My main criticism is that it's too soft on the sillage for how much it goes for; they really ought to put out an EDP version.
