Luna

The perfume that set me into my perfume journey this year, this was a love at first scent that I impulsively purchased when my friend first tested it at the Escentials perfume shop in KLCC. The moment I smelled it, the song Altar of Dreams by Aspidistrafly began to play in my head I knew I had to have it, being a perfume strong enough to evoke a song on first scent. It feels so fairy-like. It's far from a statement type of scent, but rather one ethereal as a mist at moonrise and moonset. There's a soft blanket of refreshing citrus in the opening which I find as comforting as a breeze as one awakes at nightfall, and it dries down to a dreamlike Greek impressionistic, watercolour moonlit rose garden in shades of silver, blue and magenta. Pools of clear water ripple after a light rain, petals float atop it, dewdrops rest atop bushes of roses and jasmine. One traipses barefoot across the stepping stones on the lake, and descends into the lake of silvery moonlight, almost lulled into a slumber by the beauty of the fragrance. It also develops beautifully on my skin. The only saddening thing about this fragrance is like what others have said - the longevity is poor for such a steep price, at most 3 hours before it becomes a skin scent. I spray it on my clothes to get at least 5 - 6 hours out of it; on my pillow it would last a whole night. Then again, it is made out of a lot of refreshing accords which are not meant to last long enough. It's good for going to church, having tea with friends or for a date. Not something that would last a whole day. I suppose the dreamlike ethereal quality also extends to its literal longevity - you'll eventually have to wake up from a short-lived, beautiful dream. But after misting my hair quite generously with it, I can catch whiffs of citrusy rosiness the whole day. It also has gotten me quite a few compliments from others after those few generous sprays, that is after several hours have passed since the initial application, whjch means it's still enough to be noticed by others but not enough to be offensive. I love it so much that after buying the 30ml bottle and using almost half of it, I bought the 100ml bottle a few months later the moment it was back in stock (and fortunately with a seasonal discount voucher) because there's really no way to obtain this bottle anywhere else in Malaysia other than Escentials KLCC. Penhaligon's doesn't ship directly to Malaysia, and all other methods of shipping are way more expensive. I use it for special occasions and outings, but due to its price point, I do not wear it all the time despite this being the one I consider my signature scent. All my friends who are not into perfume also agree this one is beautiful, and my beau loves this scent on me. Easily my top favourite scent only contended by Guerlain's Herba Fresca, which is still are in that "fresh" category, albeit having very different vibes. But Luna officially stays at the top of my list, and I very recently realise it's great layered with another one of my best scents - Coco Mademoiselle Intense, the chypre amber and fresh florals layer amazingly well.

As most people know, citrus scents are not my thing. I'm really happy that I've found some fragrances with clear citrus aromas that I really like. Luna is one of those few, another very beautiful is Thomas de Monaco Ultima Storia (the review written). Luna is at its best on hot summer days, after a shower or when your mind is heavy and you feel like you have too much to think about. It might also work in the gym, but despite the citrus, Luna is a relaxing and calming scent. It is fresh, soft, gentle, incredibly balanced and well blended. The rose and jasmine tie the notes together so well that the citrus is present until the end. Contrary to the initial impression that the citrus notes seemed to disappear quickly, they last very well throughout the long life of the fragrance. Of course, they perform more strongly at the beginning and then level out immediately afterwards. A subtle aromatic essence permeates through the citrus, but I still wouldn't classify the scent as aromatic. The juniper berry also doesn't make the scent sharp and it doesn't conjure up images of a drink. The musk and ambergris base makes the scent clean and sensual, yet innocent, while the Fir Balsam adds depth to the freshness, and together with the juniper berries and citrus, it creates a unique refreshing composition that I haven't found in any other fragrance. The scent is clear, transparent, breathable and soothing. It's no soapy nor shampoo like. What's also special about Luna is its longevity: it easily lasts all day, which is rare for such fragrances. It projects in the nice way as well. Luna is totally unisex imo. If citrus isn't my favorite category, Penhaligon's isn't one of my favorite houses either, but I think I could find others in this collection that I like. I’m absolutely in love with this scent. I did not expect to love this one, so much, so fast and hard! Lol. It was definitely a love at first sniff for me. I got the citrusy notes blast before I got the roses. It immediately made me think of one of my all time favorite Miss Dior Rose N Roses. Although Rose N Roses isn't as citrus forward. I'm also surprised at its lasting power for an eau de cologne strength. Although I do wish it was EDP, especially for their prices. Yikes! Also, another plus point for me is even though jasmine is listed in the notes, I don't get any jasmine and I'm glad since I'm not a fan of jasmine. So till I have money to burn lol, for the time being I'm gonna cheer myself up with the affordable option of the proverbial "English rose" with The Body Shop's British Rose. And here's a few "cheat version" of it that I accidentally discovered; to create your own version of Luna, you should layer these combos- 1. Turquoise Vetiver by Ibrahim Al Qurashi with Rose 01 by Swiss Arabian. 2. French Tobacco by Ibrahim Al Qurashi with Club De Nuit Imperiale Woman by Armaf. 3. French Tobacco or Turquoise Vetiver with Gypsy Rose by Maison Luxe (Armaf owned). Luckily I have all 5 and they totally work, in varying degrees and surprisingly longer lasting. This is the perfume that made me question my entire taste. I usually don't like citruses and white flowers. I'm more of an amber girlie, I love oud, muscs, spices.. But this perfume. It's so bubbly and innocent. Pure, soft, clean. It smells like girlhood, love, life, taking a midnight bath alone while talking to the moon... It made me reconnect to myself with so much depth. I feel healed, it's just me in a bottle. Oh to have all I ever wanted to be and all I that I ever will be in a bottle... On a more serious note, longevity and projection are amazing on me for an EDT. But I wouldn't mind it to be a skin scent, as I feel weirdly intimate with this perfume. There's a subtle synthetic note to this perfume, and the clean musc goes amazingly well with it : I feel like I have been forced to meticulously clean myself to appear as fresh and young and conventionally attractive as I can. I am plastic, it's fantastic, but I'm also the moon's daughter and I fucking will swim in a pond and get all muddy to talk to her. Again, WTF Penhaligon's, I just wanted to smell nice. (This perfume did a better job than any therapist I ever talked to)

One of my favourite fragrances I’ve tried from the Dinky Bites collection so far. Wonderful blend of citrus with heavy emphasis on the bergamot (which gives me a little bit of a tea vibe) with soft florals and lovely aromatics that sit on my skin and make me reminiscent of a botanical garden by a lake in the cooler days of spring. To me, this is the perfect spring fragrance and it makes me want to wear it every day of the season. The scent lasts longer than I expected, and I still get the aromatics and jasmine long into wear which I didn’t necessarily expect. This quickly turns into a skin scent, as is common with citrus-heavy fragrances, but every once and a while I get a whiff of it (as I spray mainly on my clavicles) and it surprises and entices me every time. This is most certainly a fragrance for all age groups, and honestly is a lot more unisex to my nose than people label it as. Overall, as you can tell, I love love love this fragrance!! I could wear this every day and not get bored of it. I need to order a full bottle soon.

I wandered into the perfume section of Sephora as an overstimulated teenager and walked out having fallen in love with perfumes for the first time. This is the scent that convinced me fragrance was more than a competition of scents. I hesitate to gender fragrances, but if Juniper Sling is the more stereotypically "masculine" scent, then this is its more feminine counterpart. Citrus and juniper are at the core of both, but Luna has those lovely floral notes. It's light and smooth — almost shimmering — like I'd imagine a flower fairy to wear in a moonlit dance. A little too feminine for me to wear myself, but my sister has been religiously using the 10ml I gave her and carries it everywhere with her. Once, at a dinner party, I caught a whiff of Luna and immediately identified the culprit for a compliment. There's something about this that makes it suitable to any age; it's not an overstatement to call it timeless. I can't help but smile every time I smell it. It's beautiful, delicate, and a soft ribbony silver.

This is pretty, light and effervescent! This scent is supposedly inspired by the Titaness Selene, a mysterious and elusive deity in the Greek pantheon. Love this perfume’s inspo and I seriously dig this scent. The pine needles & juniper berries give this a multidimensionality that’s truly beautiful. It’s feminine without being girly. It’s rosy without being rose-forward. To me, this smells like freshly crushed young rose petals dipped into Florida water (iykyk). Aromatic yet floral. This feels like moon beams in that this scent is so pretty and so delicate 🌙✨ I can see people of all ages loving this, but it does have a vintage quality that may deter some (my guess is from the juniper & rose combo). I love it but I refuse to pay the original ticket price of $250, even if I won the lottery tomorrow. I also refuse to pay for a scent that only lasts an hour on skin. Absolutely not until there’s a good dupe.

Reviewing a sample from 2025. Luna was launched in 2016. This is the prettiest most delicate citrus floral fragrance. Luna is a shimmer of soft natural citruses followed by an ethereal florals predominantly rose with dewy greeness. The musky amber base is realistic and lovely. No superclean musk bombs or excessive sweetness. Not at all soapy or synthetically "clean". Superbly blended . Quality- excellent Feminine Performance- very good for this type of fragrance ie. citrus EDT ; about 4 hours on me Beautiful translucent citrusy rose as light as air with enough intensity to diffuse. Yes, longevity is not overly long but I much prefer having to re-spray this beauty than being ambushed with horrid super musks in order to gain a few hours. If this fragrance was designed to last longer it could not possibly have smelled like this. I will have to add this to my collection for the spring. 8.5/10

Luna- this scent is evocative of a treasured memory- Italy, summer 2022. It is past one in the morning, we have just kicked off our heels and walked towards the lake, the feeling of grass under our toes. We are too wine tipsy and laughter drunk to care that we are getting our dresses dirty as we sit on the grass. The air is fragrant, and the music plays on in the background. One of us has charmed a bottle of pinot grigio from a bartender, and we giggle as we fill out cups and clink our cheers. We feel young and wild, beautiful and eternal. It is intimate, I smell it on my hair everytime the breeze touches me, but I prefer that this scent sits so close. It wouldn't be as darling if someone could smell me before they leaned in for a hug or a kiss. I want to jealously hoard this scent so only those i trust and care most about experience it on me.

This is ”quiet luxury” in a bottle. If you're looking for a fresh and clean but elegant fragrance to use for the rest of your life, look no further. This perfume would suit both a 20-year-old and an 80-year-old equally well. In a way, there's nothing particularly fancy about Luna – it's simply a clean citrus-floral scent. However, it has softness and sweetness to it that sets it apart from other "freshies”. Luna stands out, especially for its quality. It's light as a dream, floaty and airy, without resorting to the trend of molecular fragrances. All its components are in perfect balance. Luna is timeless and classy, extremely easy to wear. I don't think it could irritate or disturb anyone. It sits close to the skin but lasts about five to six hours, which is excellent performance for a clean and light fragrance like this.

Another Penhaligon I adore! I swear each fragrance I love by the perfumer is so delightfully different than the other. For me this opens up as a grapefruity blast- I am guessing it's the bergamot and bitter orange...and then quickly, as a previous commenter said, settles on its beautiful rose heart. The rose smells like Egyptian attars, more like a perfumed oil than a spray. I think this quality makes the rose more appealing as it absorbs the citrus top notes, melding and overpowering the citrus while still allowing the citrus to peek its head out here and there. The balsam fir and musk base keep the rose front and center but it adds an earthier tone. This is so far out of my normal range but I love this. I think the rose would be too much for hotter months, but it is definitely a late spring and early fall scent.

First time I wore Luna, I could only smell the citruses but something about the scent made it stand out so I kept going to perfume stores to test it again. Now that I have a sample, I make out more and more nuances every time I spray it on. The rose in this is very delicate and dewy, you're not smelling the flower up close but rather standing over a bush of roses. The juniper berry adds a little bit of tartness that balances the bright citruses in a nice way. The balsam fir isn't very strong but it completes the image of a forest surrounding the rose bushes. Overall, this is such an ethereal fragrance that makes me feel like a forest fairy. It sits close to the skin but that feels right because this is a scent I wear for myself. I recommend to give it a try and take your time getting to know it.

I am a huge fan of L’Ombre dans L’Eau, especially the EDP, and I can honestly say I see no resemblance between L’Ombre and Luna. The main feature of Luna is the fir balsam, and while the citrus and rose are apparent, they’re not the main stars on my skin, and the rose here is so different to L’Ombre that I would never have thought to compare them. L’Ombre is a very damp smell (which I also love). Luna is dry, like the scent of fir branches in a wintry forest — without the earth and dirt. I do not think they’re interchangeable, nor even comparable. Luna hits an emotional register of a kind of Christmas nostalgia or longing... it’s a heart fragrance of mine that reminds me of reading fairy tales as a child, and somehow hoping or believing that I too would stumble upon a magical world.

Such an effervescent, clean and dainty opening with the citruses and just a tiny bit of juniper - making it aromatic. Quite strong for me and so cold it reminded me of pine needles and sparkling snow illumanted by moonlight. Rarely do I find a citrus perfume that doesn't go sour or sharp on me, but this one is just perfect. After a hour the lemon slowly and sadly disappears and comes the rose, which is creamy like an expensive lotion. Another rarity, to find a rose perfume that I like, but this rose is just subtle enough not to overpower and just rightly sweet not to give rosebush. Princess in the winter forest vibes, drying down to an elegant romantic rose. Treasure of a perfume, a gem. Wish it lasted longer, but I'll try it on clothes and hair.

Opens lemon-citrusy, with an after-scent of rose. Then it settles into a more clean rose-y scent that is corpous, not too heavy, not too light. After some hours it settles into a rose-musky-ambroxan scent that reminds me Not a perfume by Juliette has a gun, but with a more powdery and strong feature. I really like how this perfume evolves, it is like having different scents at different times of the day. Sillage is intimate though, very good for people prone to headaches and maybe not for who wants to be noticed and stand out. However, I could still smell this on my wrist the morning after I wore it, even though it had faded quite a bit, which surprised me given how soft and light this perfume is. I really like it. 8.5/10

Best perfume I could find so far. Luna is a feminine yet elevating scent, not a basic type of fragrance you could sniff in other perfumes. I've been wearing Luna since high school and it is still the best perfume i've ever smell in my life. Especially the dry down, a floral skin scent that gives you feeling of coziness and wanting to keep sniffing the smell on your wrist. Silage and longevity wise not very strong but this is one of a kind of perfume that doesn't smell generic, it has an identity and a safe fragrance to wear and acceptable in most people's nose yet you could still receive compliments from them. I would definitely shower using this perfume but unfortunately a bit overpriced overall.

Sour/ bitter lemon head candies in the opening. It has a tart citrus & foresty quality with rose. Very classy & clean scent. Dewy and uplifted. The notes are very accurate to how I interpret this. The dry down is mostly the piney forest elements and rose, but a slight bit of citrus lingers. Imagery: girl in a white dress, barefoot in a forest at night. She has a rose tucked behind her ear. It’s just stopped raining so there are dew drops on the leaves and the ground is moist. The marketing of this perfume & packaging is beautiful so I’m still trying to determine if I would be so in awe of this if it was packaged in the run of the mill designer bottle. I’ll keep testing to determine that.

At first whiff this is juicy, almost-syrupy, delicious citrus. And then rose. And pine needles. For hours. It's a nice, long-lasting, linear scent, but the fir and juniper I think adds a really intriguing, prickly edge to the typical rose theme. I'm not yet sure whether it suits *me*. I'm a guy, and the rose is quite bright and prominent here. It does conjure up a nice image, though: nighttime, kitschy red roses in a deep, dark forest, soft moonlight filtering down. On the right person, I imagine this mix of dusty petals and spiky, mysterious forest notes could be a stunner. Also, the juice is not cream-colored like in the picture here: it's a pale purple, very lunar-like. :)

Ok, this is a really lovely summer scent, perfect for hot days, but it disappears after 1 hour. It's a bergamot scent, with a bit of creamy jasmine and fir thrown in. I don't smell any rose. However, my main irk with this is the marketing - in no way is this a moon fragrance; it is a sun fragrance if ever there was one. It makes no sense that this perfume bottle is pale purple, silver and white and named Luna. This one should have been called Solaris. Edit: I am obsessed with this fragrance! I can't stop sniffing it - it's such a happy, beautiful scent, and the only citrus perfume I love to the point of having to have it in my life. This is the Citrus One.

Luna is such an unusual and distinct smell that I have write about it cuz it makes me think. It feels like a fragrance not fit in our reality world but in a fictional or cartoon 2D world, maybe willi wonka chocolate factory. It describes a girl who is weird, mute, and mischievous. White hair, white pupils, white dress, to white ballad shoes, she chews all day and blows bubble out of soft yellow, green, pink and purple candies, Such memorable personality. She's quite an outcast, a rebel, you see. She's just standing there, crossed-legged, arm-crossed and aloof, not looking at you, not paying attention to anybody. 7/10
