Monsieur Beauregard

This smells, to me, like an incredibly expensive version of Valentino Uomo. It's not exactly similar, but it definitely feels in the same ballpark with the lemon opening that transitions into a smooth, buttery, pastry-like fragrance. The big difference between the two for me is the obvious huge leap in quality from MB, it just smells so deep, rich and frankly, like money. The opening of MB is really top-tier, it's a beautiful lemon, peppery vibe with a touch of the sweetness to come and it's really special. Once the opening lifts away, the orris comes through, thick and luxurious, giving the whole thing a very smooth velvety feeling. It's a very classic touch, but at the same time, MB remains completely modern. I think it would be a bit of a crowd pleaser, my only hesitation being that it is really very heavy. This is another of the main differences between this and Uomo; whereas Uomo is light and a fairly close scent that's easy to wear, MB is heavy and dense and you need to be careful not to overspray or wear in a closed environment in my opinion, it could get cloying and oppressive real quick. Overall I'd say the pyramid is fairly true to what you get, except the patchouli, I didn't notice any patchouli at all, even in the late dry down so it must be soft in there. speaking of the dry down, it lasts forever. On me I sprayed it at 10 am this morning, it's now 3:30 am and I'm about to jump in the shower and I can still smell it as strong as I could at lunchtime. Absolute monster. Classic and very beautiful with a heavy modern edge, it's a beautiful fragrance. The bottle and juice colour is just as fantastic. MB is really a great scent, suited to the colder months, possibly needs to be dressed up to do it justice. I'm not sure it's a love for me, purely based on the fact it feels a little bit showy, but that's just a personal preference and objectively speaking, I think it's a very beautiful scent. Worth the price over Uomo? Not for me personally, I actually prefer Uomo as it's lighter and easier to wear, but there's no mistaking that this is a far superior fragrance as far as pure quality goes. Very nice effort from Penhaligon's and difficult to truly fault honestly.

The scent is fantastic, just what I was getting from the sample I had gotten earlier. The biggest issue is, it is not long-lasting at all, especially given it's marked and marketed as Perfume, not Eau de toilette or Eau fraiche. I am not anosmic. I use many other fragrances, and most of them stay for hours - as for example Penhaligon's Halfeti. I got my bottle a little cheaper than retail price from FragranceX who have quite a good reputation, so I have very little doubt I got authentic fragrance. The fragrance I got becoming skin scent in 2.5 hours at best if not earlier (when I am not sweating, just staying home mostly with air conditioner on), after I spray quite generously. As much as I like the fragrance, its low performance is disappointing, especially at this price point. Would I recommend this fragrance? - well, yes and no. Yes – if you don't mind carrying the bottle with you and respraying generously every couple of hours. It is a very high class fragrance, very nicely composed. No – if money is an object, and if you are expecting higher performance from $200++ 75ml of perfume. Judge for yourself. ---- REVISED 7 months later: I am absolutely in love with this frag. Yes, it has weak longevity, yes, it's overpriced, but the scent simply lifts me up and gives me strength to go through the morning. Considering it a business expense now :))) (jk, but seriously... it's the best barbershop scent, also among a few others from Penhaligon's that I have tried).

This is the first Penhaligon's fragrance I'm sampling and chose it as my scent of the day. It smells beautiful. A very well blended, spicy sandalwood and orris fragrance. The benzoin and tonka provide an ambery sweetness in the dry down. Very pleasant. Very warm and cozy. Completely unisex. Versatile. My only gripe is that the performance isn't stellar. I wish it lasted longer, projected farther but I only had 0.7 ml and didn't use it all, so it would probably do better with more sprays. To my nose, this smells very similar to Caban by YSL which I love but this one is smoother and better blended. Caban lasts a lot longer on my skin but the scent of this one is just better, in my opinion. They're not exactly the same but very close because the sandalwood in both fragrances is a main player and they use it in much the same way. Scent : 10/10 Longevity : 7/10 (might be my fault. I'll sample again in the future to edit this review if needed) Projection : 6.5/10 Sillage : 6/10 Overall : 8/10 Final thoughts ... This could be a hit if the price were more affordable and if it lasted a lot longer than it did on my skin. For the price, I expect a lot more bang for my buck. If smell were everything, it'd get a 10/10 because I absolutely love the way it smells. Definitely going to sample this again and test it some more because it smells THAT good to my nose even if the performance seems to be lacking real power.

I blind bought this for my boyfriend. I looked at the notes and it had everything that a great man's fragrance needs; freshness of lemon, warmth of cinnamon and benzoin, sweetness of Tonka, creaminess of sandalwood, some spice from pepper, a bit of cuddliness from Orris root, finished with muskiness of patchouli... Perfection. Ok, I bought this for the bottle... We are proud owners of a heard of chickens and this one rooster named Roy is his favorite guy, so I thought he would get a kick out of the cap. Yes, he loves the rooster cap and he looooves the fragrance even more. It's very warm and fresh, yet masculine. I appreciate when a great juice comes in a cool bottle. You won't smell like everyone else... It truly is perfect.

If I had the extra cash I would have bought this fro Penhaligon's in Edinburgh immediately. Luckily they gave me a sample and I am glad I didn't buy a bottle. The note opens with cinnamon and lemon, immediately reminding me of Bengal spiced tea. The warmth is inviting and seductive. The heart notes of sandalwood and benzoin make this fragrance a delight to keep sniffing and your hand is to your nose quite consistently. Tragically this fragrance becomes a skin scent after a couple of hours. I feel their aren't enough fixatives in it or more deep base notes even though it is considered balsamic. Delightful scent overall! Would love a bottle, bot not worth the price tag for the short endurance!

This is beautifully blended and constructed. I'm fairly new to fragrances but this is the first one that has me kinda enamoured and intrigued. The lemon and pepper in the opening is really something. For sure unisex, and I'd say pretty versatile, but it's definitely a bit grown up and sophisticated, and because of the poor performance as detailed below, it's probably more of a fragrance for the person wearing it to enjoy and appreciate, I'd say it's unlikely to get you noticed a great deal. So performance-wise, I get around 2 hours of moderate-minor projection, possibly a little bit more, And after that it's a skin scent for a few hours.

as a female i did try this one out today at the store, i fel in love with the fragrance nice sweet and warm, on my skin, a beautiful fragrance what is perfect for cold weather, that they only made this a men perfume, i do not understand. because female can use a cozy frangance, the only downside is that it is disappearing pretty fast on my skin. 4 hours top, than it dry down and i have to put my nose really to my arm to detect the fragrance.. sprayed with a light hand.

Clean, warm, smoky and woody! This is outstanding! This is however nothing like Valentino Noir Absolu. I would say this is a more mature and more subtle version of MM Replica Jazz Club which I also own. Got the bottle for free after taking part in Penhaligon's promo. I am in love with this. I would say this is more suited for night time wear but can also be worn during the day time in the cooler months. My overall rating: 9/10

Sophisticated and soft. A very versatile scent that could be great as a signature scent. It's absolutely stunning with the soft, balsamic spicy notes. Even the fragrance is quite "soft", the sillage and stayingpower is surprisingly good!A very nice fragrance from Penhaligon's. One of the best from the Portraits line, close to Sohan and Radcliff.

This is very sexy. Definitely one for a date or to wear with a loved one. Pretty pricey, but you wont regret this one. On the sweet side, and intense florals on first application. The drydown after an hour is magical. The long term dry down is soft, sweet and sandlewood. Masterful!

Truly beautiful scent. Peppery sandalwood with a hint of brightness. Very sophisticated and handsome but I'd wear it in a flash; nothing cloying about the sandalwood aspect. Cinnamon sits below the sandalwood. I wish it were a bit more affordable!

My favourite of the Portraits range. Beautiful powdery/earthy composition. Slightly branded towards men but definitely unisex. The orris and tonka notes are reminiscent of luxurious setting powders you'd find on your mother's dressing table.

Fuzzy pink pepper more so than the creamy oris counterpart. Lemon is in the middle tying them together. Gorgeous.

I love this sweet powdery thin fragrance! Totally unisex and a woman can easily wear it.

The sandalwood along with benzoin are comforting, soothing and relaxing. This kin of warm sandalwood/oud/amber scents are what I would wear after bath and before going to bed. It makes me feel safe, peaceful and relaxed just like when I am hugging by my mum. The scent is unisex. It creates a warm woody/balsamic aroma with sandalwood and benzoin, and adds cleaness to it by orris root and patchouli, while at the same time bestows a hint of spiciness with pink pepper and cinnamon. Last but not least, the note of tonka bean makes it addictive that I couldn't help but kept smelling it on the test paper and my arm. Nonetheless I cannot smell the lemon note no matter at the first sniff (as it is one of the top notes) or when it dries down, on the test paper or on my arm. Maybe my nose is comparably not so sensitive to lemon scent. I love it so much and it has a good longevity as I could still smell it after 7 hours I sprayed it on my arm in store. It would be more affordable and I would definitely buy one if its price is cheaper though I understand more money, better quality either in terms of ingredients or formula.

First of all, I love the bottle with its rooster head and the packaging, in general, is gorgeous for the portraits range. I would consider this unisex, on the masculine side but as a female, I have no issues with wearing this. Cinnamon and peppery. I don't get any lemon, more like cinnamon cakes. I got this and Cousin Matthew free in the portraits game because I liked the sound of them more than the female scents on offer. I'm pleased with my choice but not sure this is worth £204. It feels expensive with the heavy bottle and the packaging and feels good quality but for the scent itself in the bottle it doesn't feel like the price is quite justified.

I totally agree with @Manuscoronum's review. This is my first Penhaligon's scent (one of the niche samples I purchased), and I too thought it was delightfully akin to 'Bengal Spice' tea when I first sprayed it, and the sandalwood + benzoin kept me going back for a sniff. [I definitely do NOT smell white chocolate, like the previous reviewer!] It projected nicely for a couple of hours, but then (alas!) became a skin scent. A very pleasant skin scent, but a bit 'weak' for what I would expect from this price range. It's another scent that I would happily wear, but not purchase for myself. I definitely found it a fragrance any gender could easily enjoy.

About me this is a sensual powder, sweet, a bit feminine, thick and spicy. The opening I have memories of strawberries, coconut and lemon as in sunscreens, but this is like velvet.A velvet sofa. The smell is simple and comfortable and on my arm remained little and close to the skin. In two words: super-soft In one: sofa Package:10/10 The bottles of this line in addition to being beautiful are also practical. They have a longer and vaporized fine spray for a perfect application.Type of movement when you put hairspray!

I love it to a point. Straight off I get a wonderful hit of cinnamon and pepper, not picking up the lemon at all. I love cinnamon! It’s really quite something for the first few hours you wear it but unfortunately it fades rather quickly after that. A fantastic fragrance let down by its performance.

Maybe it's not that powerful like Interlude, not that sweet like A-Men, not that posh like French Lover ... all I can say - it's a Comfort in the bottle - just try it.

Leathery cinnamon fragrance, low longevity and sillage. Its OK but not bottle worthy. A little bit too weak and there are better similar fragrances out there.

clean, warm and familiar. i thought i wont enjoy it when i sniffed the opening of lemon and spice (pink pepper?) . then powdery familiar iris and warm sandalwood appears. i'm unsure about the cinnamon, since I'm not crazy about cinnamon fragrances. finally... the dry down is creamy sweetish tonka sandalwood! i love sandalwood and i love this drydown... combined with little patchouli, i can sniff something almost white chocolatey... but not chocolate... i love how this fragrance evolve during my wear, just i'm not feeling the cinnamon...

Spicy, fresh, and very much cut from the classic men’s-fragrance template. It’s the kind of profile you’ll run into a lot in masculine perfumery. The orris root comes through quite strongly, before settling into a respectable patchouli finish. Well done, yes. My style? Not entirely

Tom Ford’s Santal Blush is thoroughly bewitching, and here comes the...what can I say, slightly man-ized version of it. It has a functional citrus top: smooth and pleasant, with hint of sweet orange, and a hidden layer of black peppery (nothing pink about it), serve to make people think this is a man’s cologne. Then it starts to slide into that ambiguous golden fuzzy vibe of Santal Blush. During the transition stage, there is a dash of slightly brighter notes (leftover citrus? A facet of Benzoin?) make it a bit different. Then comes a elusive accord that I've been chasing from one perfume to another, yet still failed to trap it with words. It feels rosy but 10 miles away from a typical rose flower; it shares features with the softest patchouli, and something in tobacco reminds me of preserved dry plum (话梅糖); it's mellow, every hard edges have been rounded off; as I said, it’s an enveloping fuzzy gold aura. The base of TF Santal blush is loaded with it, I also found similar vibe in Aesthete by Le Galion, Alizarin by Penhaligon’s, Palissandr d'Or by Aedes; most recent encounter is Dojima by Mona di Orio, oh Jesus fucking Christ, this one is good. Is it some type of patchouli? a facet of artificial oud? a certain tobacco component? All of the above, also rounded by soft Tonka and orris butter? Now I start to suspect it’s a not-cheap-enough specialty base by some big name company, Or it's just an imaginative note made up by my head? It’s one of the only two accords which spells “sexy” to me. One in thousand of guy, perhaps someone like Jacques de Bascher, can pull it off.

Very masculine in my opinion and not very sweet.

A very sweet, heavy, nearly cloying fragrance, probably designed more for the american market than the european one. Despite its name, I can imagine more a woman wearing that. Hard pass for me!

Before I start my review would love to ask a small question. Does anyone of you have come across any perfume that gives away that purple feel that Monsieur Beauregard gives ? If so please let me know. " MY BOTTLE OF FINE WINE " that's what comes to my mind when I sniff it. This is my first niche and my nose is not well trained to pick up the notes. For me, it's a sweet scent and not that spicy which it claims to be. And when I say sweet it's not a sugary kind of a sweet. It's such a beautiful sweetness that doesn't become overwhelming at any point in its journey. It has such a beautiful opening which is my favourite part of the story. This opening is so purplish. Somewhat feminine yet so beautiful. Then in the mid notes, it becomes a bit spicy but not overwhelming at all. And then it again becomes a bit sweeter with a beautiful purplish feel. This time bit lighter than the opening. For me, it feels like a walk in a French Vineyard. And it makes me get dwelled in a beautiful dark purplish emotion. And definitely, the ingredients are of the highest quality, so clean and fine. So beautiful. I think it's versatile and in my opinion definitely unisex. Given its retail price, its longevity and the sillage is a letdown. But I'm fine with that as I expect to wear it for myself when I wanna live in the emotion that it gives. Some would say that it's such a short journey and it doesn't worth it. But some short journeys are way more worthy than the long rides. So yeah I love MY BOTTLE OF FINE WINE. And to add to that it has definitely got a fantastic presentation with a gorgeous box and a very beautiful bottle design for which I love very much. And the beautiful juice colour adds on to that. So with all those together it's a beautiful piece of art. Maybe not for all but for me, it's a masterpiece.

Very nice. A wearable gourmand that is sweetened, but not overly sweet. Is this the benzoin? Quite creamy from the sandalwood and orris and the tonka and cinnamon add the tastiness. Fresh and balanced enough to be versatile in most occasions. I tried it indoors (air conditioned) and outdoors in heat and both environments felt appropriate. The following day I could smell it projecting off the shirt I sprayed it on. Quite impressive.

This is delightfully gourmand. The pink pepper is blended well with the creamy tonka, cinnamon, and orris to create almost a chocolate accord, so I think this smells similar to another favourite of mine, Jazzy Twist by Valmont which has chocolate, magnolia, and tuberose. Sadly for my wallet, I began a hobby of collecting discontinued Penhaligon's perfumes partly for the bottle itself so this made my way into my collection.

I bought a sample from Lucky Scent. Monsieur Beauregard has a very soft sweet smell. I almost want to call it delicious. The sandalwood, orris, and benzoin gives it a sophisticated feel. It is masculine and another example of why Penhaligon's is one of my favorite fragrance brands. I just wish a bottle was a little less expensive.

Smells like money and luxury. Addictive. I bought me a bottle after all the good response. This is blended good. A nicely done one. I thought Prada l homme and infusion were the best powdery scents for men. This is miles of head of the typical Prada infusion/powdery scents. It’s worth a try or buy

All is nice until you notice that the fragrance performance does not match how stunning its packaging is. Rather nice smell: sweet, spicy, cinnamony but quite subtle and does not last long. Such a shame, but hey, if you can afford to respray it might be a good match for you.

I had to scrub this off because it immediately gave me an asthma attack. Cedar isn’t listed among the notes, but judging by my reaction, I’m pretty certain it’s in there. Frustrating because at first sniff it seemed like something I would enjoy

This is vetiver AT MAX. Like a cologne but with a twisted cinnamon, tonka, and lemon blend that gives the whole juice a fair change to the typical original cologne. Hmm... Well.. it's not really a meh, but i'd go for meh.

If anyone is looking to sell their bottle, please let me know! It’s become one of my favorite fragrances and I can’t find it anywhere.

Excellent Fragrance with similarities to VU but this one is a lot more refined with outstanding performance!! Perfect for fall/winter.

A light lemon smell hovering over a sandalwood base that almost has a slight coconut vibe.
