Oud de Nil

This is absolutely gorgeous! On my skin it's a clean powdery Jasmine, Bergamot & Papyrus. Very faint delicate rose. The wood and resinous amber are really soft and feminine, and become a very gentle clean yet sexy skin scent. The whole thing is really addictive, bewitching, and uplifting. Words don't do this justice. Just heavenly. Love love love!

Magnificent scent, loved mixing it with the Uncompromising Sohan.

The initial burst of florals upon first encounter is strong and dizzying with lots of rose, jasmine and orange blossoms but it quickly settles down to a very enticing oud. I'm not usually one attracted to oud but this is oud tempered by lots of honeyed amber and gentle woody notes that keep it from descending too strongly into the spice bazaar hit of oud. Almost like a sweet- smokey and complex sort of confectionary tobacco that draws you in closer. My only gripe is the lasting power is only so-so (I have the EDP) but the scent is reliable all the the way through.

Interesting take on Oud. The drydown reminds me of a Memo perfume. The initial spray is strong with grapefruit, bergamot, orange blossom, and spicy geranium, mixed with the Oud and Agarwood. When all that calms down in the first 20 minutes, the rose and jasmine come to the surface to mingle with the grapefruit and Oud. The drydown is the best part, allowing the resins and amber to come through and I sense a leather note, too. Beautiful, and worth the wait.

A pleasant floral/vegetal oud. I get cypriol, and guaiac wood, and oud asa a supporting note. The rose note is very subtle. The oud note is lighter and rounder/warmer than in Halfeti and Sohan, similar to the one in MFK Oud EdP (but I prefer MFK's), and very probably a good oud-like aromachemical. I always love oud scents but I am picky to it. The oud note in this fragrance is neither too strong that annoys me nor too weak that does not smell like a oud fragrance. But Oud de Nil, with papyrus and amber, smells really different to other oud scents. I'd say it is an amber-like oud scent which people who cannot stand a strong scent of oud should try.

Very interesting perfume, reminds me of something an old wizard would wear lmao. Has a distinct note in there that reminds me of the scratch and smell element of geronimo stilton books but i dont mind it. Unfortunately ive had people tell me it smell like BO but i think its because of the oud (the person only wears green freshies)

Not the oud I expected - it's probably the most wood-y oud I've come across. I went lightly with it as oud tends to give me headaches but this one is rather subtle. At some point I'd call it even creamy. Actually, the first time I tried it it was much more in line with the many takes on this note out there but this was in warmer weather. Now it's subdued and more rounded...

10:20 - Oh man, that's intense. Oud and bergamot with some sort of herbal, peppery flavor. 2 - Didn't like it. Settled into a "mature gentlewoman rose" about an hour after application. Very strong, nice longevity, probably had good sillage but there isn't anyone around to smell me. Two sprays was more than enough, making it too bad it didn't suit me. As with most of the Penhaligon's I've tried, it smells like quality. 4 - Actually became a really pleasant skin-scent soon after I last updated this review. Not strong enough to be considered, really. But nice.

I liked this perfume the first time I tried it. I dislike it now. It smells citrusy, piney, floral, and oudy to me. The opening is okay but strange, the mid is even weirder, but the drydown smells good. Meh. It's not the one for me. The only perfume from Penhaligon's that I've fallen in love with is Ostara. Maybe I just choose the weird ones to sample. -

I have a sample of Oud de Nil. Personally I like it a lot. I won't write a whole review except to say that the sample I have is a legit carded Penhaligon's sample, not a decant, and it comes across as a unisex, sweet (but not cloying), resinous, slightly floral, oud, with some smooth (not sharp) citrus/bergamot fruit notes rounding out the top. The point of this review is to address LordCharfield's review below. I bought "Ard Al Zaafaran - Rooh al Oud" thinking even if they were just similar I'd probably like it...for £15.99...winner. Testing them side by side as I type this and they're not even in the same ballpark. Rooh al Oud (at least the one I have) is a skanky, barnyardy, leathery oud. None of the sweetness, none of the florals, none of the resinous amber. My mum and sister used to ride horses and it smells exactly like an old stinking leather saddle, with a slightly medicinal barnyard funk. Absolutely awful in the opening but drying down to a no-quite-as-bad old leather after 20-30 mins or so. I'm not mad that I bought it though - for £15.99 it's certainly an experience!!!

Let me start from saying that I am a huge fan of Pehnaligon's fragrances. I absolutely adore Halfeti, As Sawira, Levantium and Alizarin and while some other ones that came out of this niche perfume house might not be to my taste I can most definitely appreciate their complexity. I was really keen to try Oud de Nil especially that it is part of Trade Routes line that I am very fond of. For a starter I can't smell anything other than white flowers that I normally associate with air fresheners. Don't get me wrong. Oud de NIl is a bit more complex than an air freshener but I just find it sweet and overly floral. I can't detect any oud or amber in this one either. It starts sweet and settles to something equally sweet. It most definitely lacks the sophistication and complexity that I have come to associate with Penhaligon's fragrances. Unfortunately for me this is a complete fail on all fronts.

Interesting: by judging the note breakdown without smelling first, I would definitely dismiss this fragrance because of the many listed florals. In reality it is actually pretty nice to my nose. The florals are well blended with the oud. Everything seems balanced without one note being too potent. In the opening it smells manly (dirty oud), but towards the drydown it gets a little sweeter, I suspect the geranium. I do detect a subtle saffron note as well, altho not listed. Very unisex, but because of the sweet character I personally wouldn’t wear it. Edit: now a couple hours later the drydown gets drier, less sweet and reminds me of the oud citrus combination in Acqua di Parma's Oud. It's so close that I can imagine I'd recognize it as such on someone else.

Lovely scent. Thankfully I just had a sample as smells pretty much identical to Ard Al Zaafaran - Rooh al Oud this (and I have both on my arm at the moment!). Unbelievable. If you like this scent, save your money as Rooh Al Oud costs £11.99 on eBay for 100ml! Worse still, the Penhaligons iteration was released in 2016. I’ve had my Rooh al Oud significantly longer than 4 years! Oh the shame! If you want to check the veracity of what I’m saying and want to try this out in a smaller volume, you can buy a 10ml perfume oil for £3.25!

I have sprayed this twice in Penhaligon's to test. A very floral oud which lasted over six hours with just one small spritz. It is a good oud for someone who might generally struggle with oud scents. Not your typical Penhaligon's type of fragrance and no doubt they will be getting flak for jumping on the oud bandwagon but I don't care. I like it. The only drawback is the price tag - ouch...

Oudy, leathery rose. It is fresh and addictive. Even though it is a rose based fragrance and feminine leaning, it can still easily be worn by a man. Perfectly unisex. Reminds me of Hermes Galop. Petrol like and medical in the mid and dry down.

Very woodsy, resinous but fresh too. Oud not too strong, hint of rose. The papyrus and geranium notes aren't gelling with me personally, but overall a nice scent. Overpriced though if you ask me.

This is so well blended. The rose-oud combo smells nothing like any of the others I've sampled. Very femme, and expensive smelling. After the shower, one spray, and you gorg the rest of the nuit.

well done. straight up Oudh... stays constant, fresh, resinous medicinal woody Oudh, hint of Rose in there somewhere. But that's all i get. VERY long lasting
