Solaris

I don’t understand how anyone could dislike this fragrance! These words are going to sound super generic but I don’t know how else to describe it- it is sheer, sunny, happy, clean, sweet, citrusy, lightly floral, but not cloying or synthetic, as I’d expect of a scent with these notes or that banal description. Who would wear this? I would say it smells like the cologne or after-bath-splash of a prepubescent nymph or some other fantasy being. But it works for someone in their 40s as well. I do not see this as unisex or masculine; it is a bit too sweet and one dimensional for that—there is zero musk, no darkness or other complexity, which is one of the things I like best about it to be honest. I think I recall that Eddie Bulliqi’s review indicated this felt like an “unfinished” scent. I would agree to some extent; and if you see this as more of a cologne versus a full fragrance, it makes sense. A very expensive femme cologne, in both fact and in perception, as this is indeed pricey, and smells like something for the polished and elite. Kind of what I thought soleil blanc would be, but isn’t. It performs well. It works for daily and casual wear, fresh out of the shower, and it is truly extraordinary in the heat. I’m getting at least 4-5 hours of wear. I wore it all last summer and will be doing so again this spring/summer. I purchased both the large bottle and the 30 ml so I can top up when I am out. I do not have anything this bright and versatile in my collection and I absolutely love it. I would warn neroli haters to proceed with caution, but encourage them to still give it a try. It is not indolic or Neroli-forward. The way it is blended with the other notes the Nerolie is truly transformed, but still detectable.

I absolutely love this fragrance and I find it a breath of fresh air, considering it is a reasonably new release and it is not a super fruity and/or gourmand fragrance or a super woody/ambery fragrance compared to the other more recent releases. It is in my white and yellow floral wheel house and like the name "Solaris," it is bright, juicy, happy and reminds me of the sun and summertime. This opens with the sweet and zesty fruitiness of the lemon and the black currant, but it doesn't screech at you and doesn't smell like a bottle of Fairy liquid, thankfully. I don't get any of the neroli though, unfortunately. The star of the fragrance tiaré then blooms, enveloping you with its creamy, indolic and slightly fruity tropical character, followed by a banana ripe sweetness from the ylang ylang and a sweet headiness from the jasmine. Finally, I get the soft woods in the drydown but I don't really smell the vanilla, but I am not good at deciphering vanilla if there are citrusy notes in a fragrance as well. I could imagine this working for a day at the beach, a fun time with friends at the mall or going to lunch or a brunch wearing this. It cam be dressed up or down, but has a light and breezy attitude that is almost casual and makes me think of summer vacations in the tropics. It is very bubbly and feminine, making me especially think of someone like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde wearing it. It has medium projection and it lasted just over 5 hours on my skin. If I were to give this fragrance a score out of 10, it would be an 8.3/10. If I were to compare it to some fragrances, I'd say it is like if Terracotta by Guerlain and Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford had a baby. It is really pretty

I agree 100% with the review below mine. I don't think I "need" this type of fragrance in my collection but I want it and will probably buy it. I need a Penhaligon in my collection. Why not start with one with the same name as one of my favorite science fiction novels. Is it a "beach" fragrance yes and no. It is much more sophisticated than just that, it has effortless style. Going on my want shelf. I should upgrade to a love. Just did. I'm also glad it doesn't smell like Chanel Gabrielle like one of the reviewers here said. It's not like Gabrielle. I can see why Alex thinks of Gabrielle but for me it is what I wanted Chanel Gabrielle to be. It is Prettier for sure, softer, the lemon blends in seamlessly instead of shouting at you like it does in Gabrielle. This is blended in the same way Chanel original Allure EDT is blended but more of a summer fragrance instead of a year round fragrance like Allure. I'm not the biggest fan of the Gabrielle line and actually expected more. For me this is also better than the Gabrielle Essence but still in that same style. Nowhere near as sharp and generic as Gabrielle and very approachable. I would call it approachable summer chic. Edit 2 days later..... Wearing it today even though it is autumn. I want to be sure about before I buy a FB. My collection is so large now that I am cutting way down of FB purchases. I decided I want this for sure. It is everything I wanted Chanel Gabrielle line to be as I stated above.

I got a sample of this in a bulk order a few months ago from Penhaligon’s. I ignored it at first – too bright, much too bright for me. Then today, on an overcast and grey day in early March, when I was feeling a little depressed, I thought I’d have another go at it. After reading the notes of vanilla and sandalwood, two of my favourites, and it smelt beautiful. I applied more and closed my eyes and felt transported to an old country house, surrounded by fields of bright yellow flowers, looking through French doors with billowing white curtains and happy children in white linen clothes running in and out. Wicker baskets filled with fresh produce. A garden filled with wildflowers and baby ducks. A kitchen window with a freshly baked tarte au citron cooling. La Bohème by Charles Aznavour playing softly on a vintage record player. Apologies for the soliloquy; but I had to demonstrate just how taken I was with this scent on secondary inspection. All the ingredients sing to create a joyful, warm, sweet, and familiar bouquet. A symphony that smells like my romanticised idea of motherhood. It’s seriously beautiful. It would be perfect with some more sillage.

The opening is fresh and pretty and tropical with a hint of zesty lemon and fruity blackcurrant. The dry down is creamy woods and a little vanilla with the florals still there, along with a whisper of lemon. Coconut isn’t listed in the notes but I’m definitely getting it somehow (maybe from the tiare?). This is a lovely sunny summer fragrance with really good longevity on me. I feel like I’m sitting on the terrace on balmy summer evening after a long day at the beach, drinking a limoncello spritz, hair freshly washed but skin still smelling vaguely of coconut sunscreen and the beach. Solaris has a similar vibe to Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc and Replica Beach Walk (both of which I have), although I prefer Solaris to Soleil Blanc as it has more prominent florals, particularly in the dry down, making it a little sweeter and more feminine.

This is nothing like what I expected; it's better. It has some of the same vibes as Penhaligon's Heartless Helen and ELDO's She Was an Anomaly with a green tangerine and tuberose note. Neither of those scent notes are among the listed ones though. What really sets this one apart is an ethereal, floaty floral quality that seems to glow around this fragrance. The image of the sun rays on the packaging kind of capture this, but it's more of a soft glowing halo like around a full eclipse. To understand how that's a scent, you'll have to try it. I'm not sure what scent notes are making this happen, but it's just gorgeous, calming, and happy-making. It only lasts a couple of hours (like lots of Penhaglion fragrances), so plan to need to refresh.

Reminds me of a scent from Fugazi (in love with the cocos) but this is more refined and more sophisticated. I would not care for scent profiles like these..it all started when I bought soleil blanc and fell in love with that..it was a slow burn but I can’t live without it now. Solaris is even better and makes it hard to describe but sometimes you come across a perfume that gives you this surge of energy and emotions. That’s what happened when I sprayed on this gorgeous perfume. The woman that wears this is the type of woman that drives a nice car, dresses well, groomes herself well, knows when to speak, is smart and someone that is a magnet for all positive things in the world..definitely getting a bottle when spring hits🥰

It's a truly beautiful fragrance - it opens on woody and powdery and then builds into citrus and vanilla. I do see that this fragrance is highly rated for longevity... but that's really only half true. If you read other reviews you will see some mixed sentiments about this. It does in fact last a long time on the skin, but the FULL fragrance does not. The beautiful full and complex aroma lasts for barely any time at all in fact - I would say less than an hour. It quickly just becomes a light vanilla, which is nice, and lasts intimately for the whole day. Just received it today and the more I play with it, the more notes I pick up. I smell the jasmine, vanilla, wood and a whiff of lemon. It is complex but smells nostalgic to me. And by old I don't mean mature, I mean it reminds me of fragrances my mother's friends wore. Because my mother hated heavy florals, especially gardenia and jasmine. But it's a love for me! As the evening plays out, more and more notes develop. Finally, I know I see a lot of people saying this seems to be a daytime fragrance, not for me, with that rich, hothouse, summertime white floral, it is a summer night fragrance to me. 8/10

I seem to forget to write reviews for my favourite fragrances. This one I bought two years ago and I adored it from first sniff. It has subsequently become a summer staple. Staple is too boring a word for this uplifting, sunny, warm, sensuous delight. I once had to hold my nerve for the opening, but that was earlier when I was relatively new to fragrance. I love it and my husband loves it on me. Spanish or Italian energy and elegance. Summer paradise. 10/10.

So my husband got this one for me as per recommendation of a SA at the boutique and let me tell you, as soon as I sprayed it I have been obsessed! I am a big fan of Le Lys by Le Labo and I would definitely put them in the same family of warm, summery scents. Something so feminine and delicate in these frags : ylang ylang, white flowers and a bit of zest is a perfect combination for a ‘feel good’ frag! Id say it’s a very safe buy for those who love florals

Tried at the store today. Brilliant launch by Penhaligon’s, this smells very solar and bright, happy. Smells like you’re between jasmines and a beach. Loads of natural jasmine and yellow powder given by the ylang ylang. The tiaré gives that sun tan lotion vibe, beach vibes, and the vanilla in the background, mixed with the flowers, reminds me of a more delicate and floral version of rosendo mateu 5. Spot on, more on the feminine side.

THIS IS THE PERFECT SUMMER PERFUME! It starts off with citrusy sour fruity scent and quickly develops into warm floral kinda smells like expensive sunscreen (in a good way). So this is something that you would wanna wear to the beach or summer vacation to tropical countries. It kinda reminds me with tom ford soleil blanc but this one is more sweet and floral, soleil blanc is not sweet and is unisex.

This perfume really needs warmth because I fell in love with it only during the summer heat. I don't agree that it smells generic, I would rather say that it has some metaphysical aspect. It smells like an ancient temple dedicated to the sun god. Like terracotta tiles during the summer heat, sunscreen and something else, something eternal but elusive... It creates a beautiful solar aura.

Uplifting. Instantly brought to my mind the month and a half I spent in London last summer as this is what my mother wore then. Its light creaminess makes it a refreshing wear for sunny weather, like it’s name suggests. I am not usually impelled by fruity and citrusy scents, and I’ve been finding it hard recently to wear florals, but I find that Penhaligon’s does them justice for me.

This fragrance is like cutting open the most juicy grapefruit or blood orange while you are facing the most warm rays of the sun while standing in the whitest sands of a tropical beach. It is zesty and citrusy and bright. It's such a summery scent captured so perfectly. I get none of the gourmand notes at all. I definitely can get the white florals, especially the neroli.

I've tried a few Penhalagons scents over the years, and this is by far my favourite. It's a transportive fragrance for me, it smells like sunbathing in the height of summer next to a honeysuckle bush. Creamy, floral and feminine, I tend to save this for special occasions and fun day trips because I don't want to get too used to it.

Honestly, I don't get the "unfinished" adjective people gave to it! Solaris is a beautiful floral-fruity fragrance, with no tuberose at all, but a juice ylang-ylang with a bright tiare + neroli combo and a salty vanilla dry down. More feminine indeed, but way more luminous than Terracotta, for instance. I really liked it! 👋🏻🇧🇷

I sprayed Solaris earlier today, and when my husband smelled it, he immediately complimented me and said, “it smells like the happiest days of summer.” I was almost shocked by what he said because he’s not one to say much about fragrances, but in that short and sweet encounter, he summed up exactly how this fragrance feels.

i became obsessed with this one when i sampled it at the airport! i love how the black currant comes through as its one of my favorite fruits and scents, and this perfume reminds me so much of walking through a berry garden- a very natural scent- not in the way of skin but in the way of nature ♡ i bought it immediately

I love this fragrance! I don't really know how to describe it but it's beautiful and different, well I have not smelled anything like it at least. Warm and comforting florals so nice in warm weather. Lasts really well too, I can smell it the next day.

this scent is gorgeous! it reminds me of sunscreen but in the best way possible, its giving 6pm at a beach club after being in the sun the whole day having a glass of wine or a cocktail. i love it!! makes me feel super pretty and feminine

My scent preferences has evolved as I’m into citrusy and rose perfumes lately. This as one summer citrusy smell I just had to have it! My daily go to work scent but not my work scent. That’s where my Dior jadore Leau comes in.

θρ a bright, summery & girly fragrance that i adore. gentle and light yet powerful enough to remind you of walking on the beach while watching the sunset. one of my favorites from penhaligon's.

What an absolutely gorgeous sunny-weather fragrance. This smells pretty, clean, deeply floral, solar and summer-y without being gourmand or sunscreen-like. This smells expensive.

Smells of holidays and bright sunny days with blue skies. Clean but not squeaky, gentle but with a wow projection. It is alluring, feminine and like a magnet for every passer by.

Okay, a quick edit. I mean for real if gardenia isn't your thing. Take a HARD PASS. It dies down a bit after about 3 hours but the opening is all gardenia, all day.

Very, very creamy tropical flowers. Smells almost milky in the drydown. Along the lines of Soleil Blanc, but much more refined. Absolutely stunning.

Bright elegant citrus with lovely ylang ylang, I agree with comments about it smelling "natural". Great dailywear/office wear.

Uplifting, sunny fragrance, very alike Bel Amour. Like summer, like skin with suncream, like warm kisses. I recommend!

Very similar to Eau De Soleil Blanc, nice and clean coconut!

A gentle embrace. Solaris, partner to the moon-inspired Luna, evokes images of summer sunlight and gilded glass. As with many fragrances by Penhaligon's, the fragrance really shifts in performance and perception day by day, but also from person to person. The vanilla shines through on my skin a lot more than expected, though the citrus and fruity notes add a lot of refreshing juiciness that distances it from warmer vanilla fragrances. Projection is measured, longevity is more than expected. It reminds me of lying in a sun-drenched meadow in the middle of a summer's day, gently drifting off into sleep. On my friend, who used it as a signature scent for months, it conjures the image of standing in line at school for a small bottle of flavoured Yakult, milky and sweet with a blush of blackcurrant. It's not the sort of fragrance that would offend anyone. Not because it's basic, but because it's just so pleasant and agreeable. It's perfect for lounging in the summer sunset during golden hour, bathed in the last light of the day, but it's also equally suited to a brunch date. It's not cold or cooling, but it's not cloyingly warm, either. A happy medium. It's versatile. I’d compare it to a luxurious bath in goat's milk, honey, and berries, indulgence rather than necessity. All the best things in life are.

SOLARIS was such a pleasant surprise to me after trying Penhaligon's LUNA (reviewed earlier) ... to which I give all its dues but find it hard to wear due to my own dislike of a its cloying white floral/Ylang-Yland dominance... Solaris just comes across as Luna's better blended and refined cousin. I love the opening notes of Neroli and Lemon with added Black Currant - compared to Luna and some other perfumes I tested with similar citrus forward openings, it is not a strong citrus blast, but rather an inviting, fresh opening. It then smoothly transitions into a well balanced blend of white flowers where the Ylang-Ylang is not overpowering the Jasmine and the overall composition and doesnt overwhelm your senses - which was my main problem with Luna. I notice that the mid stage doesn't linger too long - again, compared to Luna, where you get stuck in the floral intensity for quite a while - Solaris swiftly lands you in a lovely comforting vanilla dry down, grounded by delightful woody touches. The overall impression of its character, described in one just one word, would be SMOOTH. SOLARIS is a very strong like for me, a perfume that I would definitely enjoy wearing in the warm weather.

Solaris opens with the most realistic smelling lemon! The zingy acidic smell lasts only for about two minutes then it has a slightly weird, somewhat soapy green smell until it settles into the warmest, sweetest ylang ylang, tiare and jasmine combo. Vanilla and sandalwood are in the background in Solaris, the flowers are playing the main role! It’s not 100% the typical tropical floral scent, it has a twist that makes it more unique than the others in this vein. It might be the added blackcurrant in the composition that kinda ruins it for me. There’s something in here that’s bothering my nose. I love the opening but the dry down is not quite where I want it to be to make me splurge for a full bottle. It’s Penhaligon’s so it’s pricey. Moderate longevity and silage. The bottle and the box are the typical Penhaligon’s style, simple and elegant but with a sunny brownish/yellowish colour to it. I kind of want it, but I think I need to get decant to get my mind around this.

Can definitely get the scents of fresh and juicy blackcurrant, citrus lemon, and neroli mix blooming from the start. It then quickly turns into white floral scent with ylang-ylang and tiare flower taking dominant and little blackcurrant laying at the back. Cannot really detect vanilla but cedarwood and sandalwood are both laying down quietly in the mix with floral almost powdery scent. A very fresh and enjoyable unisex summer fragrance and considering this is a special edition perfume being made in Spain instead of England from Penhaligon's collection. Imagine yourself on holiday walking under the sun in heated Spain and Italy...or on the field in the vineyard during the grape harvest period. Spray on clothes and it should linger for around half a day. Lively and sunshine in a bottle!

This is basically a white floral with little facets of sunshine, the neroli and lemon. The vanilla blends seamlessly in the background, the black currant gives it a grounded earthy quality so it doesn’t become too airy & ethereal. The sandalwood & cedar wood base notes give it substance and a more masculine edge. I found this interesting given its many floral notes , definitely leaning more masculine than unisex. This is a well made concept fragrance, projection is medium and lasts about 5-7 hours on my skin. I layer it with Blanche Bete , which was too light on its own. With Blanche Bete on top, I get a warm blanket of creamy nectar overlapping Solaris , which gives this a more feminine appeal, thus creating many compliments!

My my isn't this similar to L'Artisan's Soleil de Provence which I already own. However this one is more tropical, fresher and less floral. The neroli is really well done here. In hindsight I would have passed on Soleil de Provence if I already had this, as I prefer this one a lot more. However the performance on this one is really bad so it may not be redundant to have both :). Such a cute bottle too! This is a house that just KNOWS the art of packaging. In summary, it is a love for me ❤️. I have found THE beachy tropical fragrance for me.

It has a fresh, crisp, bright neroli opening with an interesting evolution into a creamy, ylang ylang and vanilla skin scent which lasts 6 plus hours on my skin. It is a beautifully crafted and well balanced gem within this tropical floral summer frag genre. I think it’s more elegant and beautiful, while smelling much less synthetic than Soleil Blanc. It’s not groundbreaking, astonishing, or potentially polarizing. It’s just very pretty and well done. It’s classy. Glad I have a bottle.

Sweet and sunlit. A fresh burst of citrus and fruit. You’re on a hillside picnic, and she’s laughing beside you: golden-haired, radiant in the summer light. The sun catches her hair, casting an angelic glow. It’s your first time falling in love. You taste berries and lime pie on your lips. The grass is cool beneath your fingers, the sky wide and endless above. Nothing else matters. The sweetness of the moment becomes courage, and you say it. Without fear: “I love you.”

A soft, sophisticated blend of white florals, sandalwood, and vanilla... and also sunscreen. Wet on skin, there's a slightly sharp citrus note in here, too, but it faded pretty quickly on me. Everyone else has already pointed out that this feels like a vacation scent, but I also think it's the perfect fragrance for the women I see on the subway in summer who are commuting to the office in effortless-looking linen.

Pleasant but not terribly exciting? The opening is a lovely sunny rush of fruits and florals. On me, it moved rapidly through to a soft vanilla - by no means unpleasant but a little generic. Compared to some of the truly superb scents that the brand has come up with (and seems to keep discontinuing - Castile! Orange blossom!), I'm not sure of this one's place in the lineup.

Although described as Unisex, the fragrance leans slightly on the feminine side but on a warm day I wear this as a man and feel fairly confident- those woodier base notes help! The opening is almost like sun lotion but the dry-down brings a mix of sweet florals with fresh greens that I cannot stop sniffing. Silage is moderate as is the longevity.

I know what it reminds of! It's Lush R&B hair cream (I think it's called Revive now). This is basically a dupe of that scent (as the Lush one came out over 10 years ago), just smoother and better quality. Is it something divine and groundbreaking – no. But it's likeable, pretty, and uplifting.

First spray smells citrusy, imagine lemon and orange on a sunny seaside. Uplifting, happy scent. Almost like an Escada fragrance but smells expensive and luxurious. Dry down is vanilla woody, longevity is out of the world, no need for touch up at all through out the day.

Very old-fashioned white floral. Not bad at all, in fact it feels natural and well-crafted. But it does seem a bit austere. Terracotta is more playful but significantly sweeter. Songes is bolder. Performance is on the weak side. It's a matter of personal preference.

Solaris opens up with a bright zesty burst of citrus and blackcurrant. This dries down to a creamy tropical melange of white and yellow florals, a sunscreeny beach goddess perfume done right, really pretty.

bomby, quite swelling overblown citrus and white flowers. it feels like they are stacked in a balloon, so rushy but running out of space to expand. indolic citrus is a weird solar eruption experience. 7/10

Starchy pleasant citrus. When I was a kid, there was this glitter gel I used to play with. It smelled floral, gluey, and a little soapy, and this is reminding me so much of it.

Reminds me a little bit of Gucci Profumo di Fiori. It has a similar summery feeling without going totally beachy. Pleasant
