EN. This fragrance is pure elegance dressed in rose. It opens delicately, almost timidly, but soon begins its slow development on the skin, like a rose blooming under the first rays of sun. It feels like wearing an ivory silk dress: not just a scent in the air, but something I can constantly feel on myself, embracing me, noticeable with every breath. It gives me a sense of presence and intimacy. It doesn’t shout, but whispers with confidence. It’s the kind of fragrance that reflects a refined and clear image of myself, like a mirror. Although marketed as a feminine fragrance, as with most niche perfumes, this is truly unisex. Its expression depends on who wears it. On a well-groomed man, paired with a clean, elegant style, it transforms into something surprisingly sophisticated and even slightly masculine—without losing its delicate charm. Of course, in less curated contexts, it could show a sharper or unpleasant side, but under the right conditions, even on male skin, this rose opens up miraculously and beautifully. IT. I am so so pleased and happy with this perfume, I have never smelled anything like this... wow. I do not even know where to start, this perfume is an act of class It is so elegant and delicate, I just really do not know how to describe it!. The opening is very floral, like if you are getting ready to spend the afternoon in a big rose garden inside a beautiful castle, the table is ready and the tea is being served, so you seat down and the sugar, the roses and the wood from the table mix in the air and make a very welcoming ambiance. is sweet and slightly spicy at first, then slowly but firmly you get the mandarin and the musk. This screams classy, Royal dainty woman, it has sexy in the back too, but it is not a "Mysterious dark sexy" is more of an Sweet effortlessly sexy, I hope that makes sense. My favorite and absolute hands down favorite part is the dry down... I am so amazed I really feel like this bottle have memories of romantic old lives and love histories inside and in every spray, it made me feel nostalgic for some reason. it dries in a delicate and soft sweet musky scent that would make anyone want to hug you tight for long hours... I love love love this perfume. Silage is good, I was expecting a bigger projection but I think this fragrance was made to be a more intimate and soft one, so I am kind of okay with that. Sample it first, this house tends to be a hit or miss in my opinion due to the complexity of their creations so unless you are a die hard fan of rose perfumes do not go and spend so much in a full bottle, sample and then judge, but if you love roses and have an open mind u can easily blind buy this! Try it in any case! is an absolute delightful experience.

This is a beautiful linear fresh rose scent, and that is exactly why I love it. Right now it’s late morning in early June, I just had a lovely shower and applied this after, and I’m blown away by how delicious and refreshing it is. I have a purse size but I can see this one making its way onto my full bottle wish list. Regarding the Delina comparisons, they are different. Delina has more spice and I suspect more longevity as Delina lasts forever on me and Penhaligon’s Portraits generally don’t give me as long. But as a lover of fresh rose scents, I decided a long time ago I’d rather reapply and keep my light scented preferences since it’s so hard to get both in one fragrance. Of the three Delinas, I would put this between La Rosee and original, but closer to La Rosee. You could wear this to the office, but I personally wouldn’t waste it on work. I’d go for afternoon tea with the girls or to a garden party in it, or even the daytime part of a wedding and upgrade to a heavier scent for the evening. Would potentially work for bridesmaids too, but I’d say it’s too light for a bride.

Oh, this is yummy! I honestly didn't expect to like this as I'm not a lover of rose-forward scents on the whole, but this is like a more mature and sophisticated version of Lush's Rose Jam: still floral and sweet, but not as teeth-achingly sugary as the aforementioned, anchored by a delicate musky-woody base. In all honesty, this has thrown a spanner in the works... I was all but zeroed in on a different scent from this house, but I'm REALLY loving this... sadly with how much it costs, it will probably sit on my wishlist for a painfully long time. Sigh. Listen, it isn't unique by any stretch of the imagination. It doesn't reinvent the wheel. But until just now, I used to roll my eyes at people who claimed they could smell the quality of the ingredients versus something (allegedly) smelling synthetic, but I think I get it now. I am enlightened... This is so, so, so lovely. Expensive as all hell, but bloody lovely.

A beautiful sour orange in the opening, with a lovely light rose underneath. Super authentic smelling. Both the orange and the rose. When it settles, you can still smell the orange, but it's lighter, and less sour. The rose scent in this fragrance really does smell like stuffing your nose into a fresh garden rose. The most authentic rose scent I have ever smelled in a fragrance, (but I am a fragrance noob). Owning a bottle of this fragrance would be like having fresh roses on hand whenever the mood struck you. The bottle and packaging are so elegant. Like an old classic storybook character. This fragrance does not project. If I want to smell it, I have to put nose to skin. It's possible I would smell this around me, if I sprayed it on my clothes and in my hair, but I only had a tiny sample. If this is just a skin scent...it's a really great one.

This is so pretty and satisfying to me. It has a wonderful balance of rose and wood. What a shame that I won't be able to afford a full bottle. In my country Penhaligon's fragrances are hard to come by and those few that are available are extremely expensive. I don't think the smaller sizes are available either. For this reason, they haven't really been on my radar. Recently though I received a Penhaligon's 'scent library' as a gift from abroad so I've been able to sample them.. I just glanced now at the prices for full bottles of this scent on e-bay and my heart sank. Oh well. Update - Got my hands on a lot of samples from Ebay from a seller who actually shipped to my country (a rarity...). I now have about 8 ml. of this scent and that should keep me for a while given the size of my collection.

One of the most beautiful roses that I own with an abysmal longevity. I can only smell it for 2 minutes then it’s gone. Tried it on my skin, tried it on my clothes. Tried it in summer, tried it in winter. Nope. 2 minutes. Gone. I drowse myself in this on date nights and my partner rarely notices anything. And by drowse I mean 15+ sprays. I’m so disappointed. It’s like I know how beautiful this scent is, and it’s right there on my shelf, yet I don’t get to enjoy it. Not to even mention how much I paid for it. The closest dupe I found is Lancôme’s 1001 roses. Performance is much much better than the duchess, but still, 1001 roses isn’t quite as refined and smooth and sophisticated. But at least I can smell it. (I just put 8 sprays of duchess on myself, and the smell is already mostly gone.)

I typically hate rose scents, but I love this one. The mandarin orange makes it so light and youthful. My usual/favorite frags are musky and gourmand, so anytime I find a floral I actually like, I immediately go out and buy it. It’s a simple yet beautiful spring or rainy day scent. It does smell a lot like Delina, if you got rid of the rhubarb and lychee. I would actually prefer this to Delina - if it lasted. Duchess is light, while Delina can sometimes be overwhelming. This scent wears off SO fast, which is such a shame because it’s the only thing stopping me from buying it, especially with the price tag. EDIT: okay I bought it anyway lol Merry Christmas to me!! I found it actually DOES last, you just go nose blind to it. Spray it on your clothes, and you’re good.

This has been my skin scent for three to four years. Unfortunately the sillage on much of the Portraits collection is particularly low — With stronger (exotic) profiles such as Bewitching Yasmine and Changing Constance being an exception. For about 2 years, I went back and forth on buying a full bottle but honesty, for a skin scent that smells splendid but sort of simple to a trained nose — £150+ is... bold. Love the perfumers work, love the collection, love everything except the price point not amounting to longevity and sillage. I buy a roll on oil dupe and I find that to do more than the original itself. Penhaligon Dutchess Rose is a fresh and fruity citrus rose scent. Its really beautiful! I've been wearing it for a couple weeks, and love the scent but honestly, the longevity and sillage are very poor performing---even when sprayed on clothing 🙃. That's disappointing, bc it smells good! Alternatively, Guerlain's Ginger Piccante, from the Allegoria line smells very similar and performs better for half the cost, which is surprising bc it's an EDT and Pen D.R. is an EDP concentration! After use, I don't think I'll be repurchasing The Penhaligon. D.R. the fragrance needs an intense flanker, badly! For the cost of PDR, performance is a big deal and it smells too good not to last or be weak.

The most expensive baby I have. Classique, elegant, and graceful. Not a head-turning type, but it does leave lasting impression. So beautiful. True rose scent from very first second till it completely off from my skin. Not a soapy scent, but a sweet-fresh type. The sillage is good. It last for 6-7 hours on my skin. Something suitable to be wear all year round and day or night. The bottle of Potrait series is "collector's item- worth". If you a rose scent lover, please try this out. Pricey but worth it. But if you have tight budget, then try Red Roses by Jo Malone (less powdery and more citrusy)... not similar of course, but Jo Malone has beautiful rose scent too.

A blushing, tender pink rosebud, sweet and fresh citrus, with light musk. Very straightforward and completely inoffensive. Not at all synthetic, harsh, or overpowering -- the perfect rose/floral fragrance for those who typically do not gravitate towards rose or floral fragrances due to their strength or harshness. So natural, smooth, and well blended. Smells like real Bulgarian rose and sweet orange oils. It doesn't scream, it speaks calmly; like the former Duchess of Cambridge, now Princess of Wales, soon to be Queen of England, Catherine. Pure class, elegance in a bottle. The reason it is so expensive is because it's not cheaply made, pretty simple.

This is one of the most elegant rose fragrances I have ever worn. The rose is velvety and luminous, beautifully supported by soft woods and musk without ever becoming heavy or overly sweet. There is a refined powdery quality that gives it a graceful, almost ethereal character. What I love most is the balance. Every note feels perfectly placed, creating a seamless composition where nothing dominates. It has a quiet confidence rather than shouting for attention, yet it lasts remarkably well on my skin. Romantic, sophisticated, and effortlessly beautiful, this is a rose fragrance I never grow tired of smelling on myself.

This is an amazing perfume! When i first smell it, I instantly said this is how Velvet smells! Rich rose , warm , cozy .The woody notes give a depth and warmth in this perfume while the rose gives it character. Imagine entering a warm room that has red velvet everywhere and smells like roses. Slightly dark but gorgeous. the only bad thing is that i payed 245euros for 75ml and the sillage is barely there. Sits close to your skin and lasts 2-3hs which is not very much considering how expensive it is. Also it is a perfume that you can enjoy mostly on winter.

There is so so many rose perfumes out there but only this one deserve true attention in my opinion. The most beautiful rose scent I came across so far.Imagine a wild rose growing in a field,it is a hot spring day and it's start to rain.This is exactly what you can smell intense wild rose heathen up in the sun,nothing else but pure warm rain and wild rose. Beyond feminine,beyond beautiful and fresh. This perfume have the strongest projection and silage in my whole collection of perfumes! Very elegant and extremely feminine.

A very musky, powdery sweet rose scent. Not at all fresh, this is a very mature, elegant scent that conjures images of an extremely put-together lady; almost in a strict traditionalist way. Can be worn all seasons for all of you rose lovers out there. Projects wonderfully and lasts better on clothing. I adore the underlying citrusy mandarin orange, it’s not terribly unique nor exciting but it has personality for sure. The price tag, though... I love it, but I use this sparingly. Such a lovely, sophisticated rose.

I adore this. Beautiful sparkling dewy rose with just enough depth to keep it from being silly. Not a dark or woody rose like le labo or rose prick (both of which I love but are very different). Also much fresher and lighter feeling than any Mancera rose scent, in my view. This is almost exactly the same as Happ & Stahns Rosa Alba from Anthropologie (which I think is now discontinued), randomly enough. It has better longevity and a bit more sophistication. So happy to have this scent in my life!

I didn't want to love it at this price point but I DO. And IMO its simplicity is its strength. Bitter orange that isn't sharp, soft rose that doesn't overtake the other notes with smooth musk and woods to round it out. It is simple and beautiful. Clean with a bit of edge from the orange and woods that stops it being overly girly and light. Even if rose is not your thing give this one a smell. And don't let the simplicity turn you off - it is worth a sniff.

I love the scent of roses and have been looking for the perfect rose perfume for the longest time, Penhaligon's Duchess Rose is the most beautiful rose perfume I've ever worn. It's a slightly musky rose that makes me feel young and fresh, yet sexy at the same time. It's the perfume I go to for special occasions where I want an extra bit of confidence. It's definitely expensive, but worth every dollar I spent.

My absolute favorite rose perfume. I fell in love when I first smelled it. I’d definitely agree with another comment that this is a mature rose and not really unique. However, it has this slight sweetness which is why I don’t see it as an “old person” scent. I could wear it everyday and I personally think it fits every season. I’ve got a bunch of testers for this, but it for sure is full bottle worthy!!

This is my long autumn scent. A very true rose...delicate but very specific. Not overpowering but long-lasting. As the weather turns crisp, this is a warming scent that is truly feminine and romantic. Somewhere on the moors, walking with the wind whipping up your long hair, the air turning to winter and you bathed in a lost dream of a rose garden at the end of June. Classic.

Man oh man what a perfume... WOW. The initial whiff is naive, yet it quickly becomes seductive. She's sweet, yet spicy. Fresh and breezy, yet rich and warm... She's an enchanting paradox in a bottle, and I'm totally enticed by her. But damn she's expensive (I guess it's only suitable. She's "the coveted" Duchess Rose, after all lol).

Beautiful woody musky rose. A bit harsh in the opening, but then it's just beautiful. Feminine, according to Fragrantica, but I think this is really unisex. On my skin, the woodsy notes compliment the rose and feels more unisex. This has been a really pleasant surprise (official sample from the Penhaligons 'Portraits Scent Library).

8.75. Of all of the rose perfumes I have tried, this is my favourite. It is pure and sweet but not too much so. At first it seemed too simple and uncomplicated but this turns out to be its strength. It is just right. Elegant but not too sophisticated, so it can be worn at any age. Unfortunately longevity was only 3-4 hours on me.

Soooooo beautiful. Delina’s softer, more beautiful sister. If you like the dry down of Delina but, like me, find the opening too harsh, this would be perfect. Didn’t think I’d be a rose scent girlie, but I’d love to buy a full bottle of this - the price point however... not for me :(

Still searching for a replacement of my beloved Stella (2003) and this comes very close. Just missing the Peony and therefore ever so slightly heavier smelling, but absolutely gorgeous. I think we have a true contender at long last if it wasn’t for the eye watering price tag 🫣

As much as I love this scent, the longevity just isn't there for the price, although i do love this rose, unfortunately, this seems to be an ongoing problem for me with pengaligons (minus halfeti & bewitching yasmine), which are both very long lasting and projecting.

Every time I spray a sample, I fall in love over and over again!! However, Duchess Rose has incredibly poor longevity. 1 hr would be a very generous opinion. If this could go on for at least 3hrs(ok maybe 2hrs), I would turn my blind eye to the ridiculous price.

A nice, photorealistic rose. Compared to another popular photorealistic rose, Jo Malone Red Roses, I like Coveted Duchess much more. It's a little smoother, less raw. Beautiful bottle too.

It is a pure rose with a greenish stem stained with soil. I love rose fragrances but this is just another level. Unfortunately, it is expensive and does not last long on me :(

The Coveted Duchess Rose opens as a feisty, prickly rose. This is no dainty pink petals, but a tart, plum-like, occasionally wine-y red rose. A prominent green peppery note surrounds the carmin petals, like the thorns protecting the rose as well as bringing in a certain freshness and modernity. The fragrances becomes sweeter with time, and reaches its peak at around 1 hour after I applied it on my skin. Although the green peppery note is always present, the rose still turns quite jammy at one point, as if the rose is soaked in mandarine syrup. Fortunately, The Coveted Duchess Rose never becomes gooey, as the green peppery note has a rather dry texture, which helps to keep the sweetness in check. About 2 hours in, the sweetness calms down significantly, while the woods and white musk kick in. The mild wood replaces the green pepperiness in the dry down, and the soft musk is like a fluffy cloud, upon which the delicate, now almost pink rose petals float. The sillage is relatively close, and the longevity can surpass 12 hours. I was expecting another bland pink rose muffled by white musk early on. Therefore, the spiky, ruby rose opening of The Coveted Duchess Rose had me positively surprised. Even though it eventually resolves to a pretty pink rose supported by white musk, the proportion is well calibrated so that the white musk does not overshadow the rose on my skin. However, in the end, The Coveted Duchess Rose doesn't go beyond being pretty, and one can find either a well-made thorny rose or an elegant pink rose at a more reasonable price. I'd recommend it to avid fans of rose soliflore, but those who are indifferent to rose fragrances might not find it much special.

The Duchess was once a little girl who saw a show on the beautiful gardens of the world. She distinctly remembers the beautiful roses of one garden somewhere in the British countryside and was captivated by their beauty and all the various colours. At school, she would dive into anything related to roses-- she knew them all, even though she had never seen one or even got the chance to smell one, because her parents were always busy working, and they lived in an apartment in a different part of the world, where roses would never have a chance at growing (or well, so the adults told her.) But then she grew up, saving every penny she got to get her passport and finally go to visit this land so smell those coveted roses-- By then she was a grown woman, and she ended up falling in love with another, unexpected sort of Rose. This perfume is a rose bomb. But having lived amongst many roses it feels a bit 'Hollywood version of Rose' at first. But it dries down quickly and the hints of musk and woodier notes start to bring the fake-rose down to make it more grounded. I feel like this is a nice, simple rose scent that one would wear day-to-day in an office environment or maybe for a family trip to the museum.

I sprayed this and had the most vivid flashback to being 9 or 10 and going over to my cousins’ house and swimming at their above ground pool in the dead of summer, sucking on red Fla-Vor-Ice popsicle packs and sunning myself on their driveway. Why did that memory come up? I think because the rose in this is yummy and fresh. This, coupled with some coolness or perhaps some aquatic notes that aren’t listed, and the orange, it reminds me of the flavour and taste of those silly little treats. I’m convinced there are more fruit notes in this than the note chart lets on too. It’s a summery, spring scent for sure. If I try to separate myself from that memory and just focus on the scent, it’s definitely rose forward with a bit of orange and it is verging on gourmand. It’s really pretty and innocent, and for me it evokes nostalgia and happy childhood memories. I don’t sense any hidden carnal desires as the narrative behind this lets on. Sadly, people are right about performance. I felt this faded in 2-4 hours.

Duchess rose introduces herself with... you guessed it, rose. Dusky, airy, pink rose, light and breezey. A touch of greenery and earthiness in the blend provides a gorgeous, natural, realism. The base is a pretty clean muskiness with a touch of soft woodiness. Duchess Rose captures youth in an old-fashioned style. Like a picture of your grandmother when she was a little girl. As other's have said; this is a simple and straightforward fragrance. I wouldn't say linear, because I don't believe the simplicity here is a drawback. I feel that the simplicity adds an element of innocence which is lovely. Traditionally feminine, but I think would be beautiful on a man. Lasting power is meh, but the major drawback for me is the lack of projection. Sits right on the skin and goes no further. For something with similar character but more complexity and performance I would go for Toy Boy by Moschino. VERDICT: Duchess Rose is very beautiful, such a shame she is so shy and fleeting.

The design of the line Penhaligon's poitraits caught my heart at first sight. But as a normal office lady, it's way too expensive for me to purchase a full size bottle. Lucky me, I found vials!!! At first, the Coveted duchess rose was too strong and it almost made me panic. It left an impression like room spray, air freshener. Somehow it reminded me of cheap scent in karaoke room. I was so disappointed. But then I gave it second try. And guess what?! My impression changed. It's like a story that a wild, sexy girl followed a duke, then he made her his wife, living in his mansion, the girl converted to a gentle, decent duchess. It's different from the story on the package. The scent of rose and orange mixed well, it lasted till the end. The wood sneaked in but it's not as strong as men perfume, it's just mild and relaxing. Well, I'm glad I got this one. I hope I can try all the perfumes of Portraits.

The Coveted Duchess Rose is your standard musky, pink, light and bright rose scent. It’s nothing new or special in the way the rose is done, to deserve the Penhaligons pricing, but it’s a nice, feminine, inoffensive, citrusy, musky, powdery, sweet rose. Smells super pleasant and intensely rose, but it’s very light and gets to be a skin scent in about half an hour, which for the price is unacceptable IMO. From the perfumes listed as similar to this, I think Stella is the most similar, so those looking for a similar scent to the long time discontinued Stella by Stella McCarthy, The Coveted Duchess Rose is a very close one. In that context, I would recommend it for sure, if you are ok with the high price. Exclusively a spring, summer perfume, since it’s so light.

I love Rose perfumes and I have been looking for a new one to try for a while. The prices of these bottles though meant I was not blind buying one. Penhaligons recommend this one for me when I took their quiz, so I bought the tester sets from Feelunique so I could try them all. I do like the fragrance, but the longevity on your skin is awful - 2 hours at most and puft .... Gone! Yet spray it on your clothes and it’s a totally different story. I can still smell it on my jumper over 48 hours later. So if you buy this and want it to last spray your clothing as well. I like the scent but I wouldn’t call it unique. If you’re looking for a unique Rose perfume try Montale Rose Elixir or even their New Rose, that one is more powdery though.

The Coveted Duchess Rose is a very English rose scent, lightweight, polite and fresh. It is nothing groundbreaking, and is expensive for what it is, but it is pleasant and likeable. TCDR is rosy throughout, a realistic, pink petal-y rose. It initially appears alongside bright, sweet orange. Initially dewy and fresh, it becomes lightly musky as it develops, with soft woody notes rounding out the rose nicely at the later stages. It fades to a clean, musky skin scent, rosy until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a feminine spring/summer daytime scent. A pretty but pointless scent, TCDR is another linear almost-soliflore rose scent that is overpriced despite being good-quality and pleasant. 3/5.

Opens up as a delightful dewy rose. Youthful but with grace and not girly at all. Very wearable and a perfect option for those who have a problem with heavy rose scents. And then it develops into... the same dewy rose. And the dry down presents no trace of musk or wood on my skin. A rose scent as linear as an average wall. Don't get me wrong, the rose presented is absolutely wonderful. My problem is just that there is ONLY graceful ladylike innocent rose. Perfect scent for summer though. But to me this is too "safe", too average and frankly too boring to justify the price tag. It actually reminds me of a more well done Versace Bright crystal... Sillage moderate and longevity about 8 hrs on me.

Light and airy rose. It smells like the Rosa Damascena vials that are traditional for my country (Bulgaria) - the phials come in engraved wooden boxes and the initial rose whiff you get is inevitably mixed with a note from the wood. This is probably why I wouldn't call this extraordinary, but I guess I've been spoilt with wood-tinged rose since early childhood. :) Update: I don't know whether this was a thing in your country, but in Bulgaria we used to have "smelling sheets" (1:1 translation) when I was a kid - little notebooks with beautifully printed pages that were also perfumed. They smelled in a similar fashion.

Very light citrusy rose with a good body🌹 It gives me rosewater desserts like turkish delights but not as sweet. She's gives me.... a Victorian protagonist...curiosity runs wild and finds out she falls in love with someone unexpected. This fragrance is quite lovely howeverrrr, I already have a pretty similar fragrance that I feel lasts longer than her. Its called Always in Rose by Tokyomilk which is like 50$. Instead of the mandarin note it's hibiscus. Still a phenomenal fragrance but I feel Elisabethan Rose performs a lot better out of their Penhaligon's collection. Zodiac Trio ⬆️Aries ☀️Gemini 🌜Libra

This is such a unique rose, I think I have successfully gaslit myself into forgetting what a rose perfume should actually smell like. I've spent weeks to months trying to find a similar perfume that doesn't turn as soapy on my skin, and their either all too light, too green, too spicy, not rose forward enough. This is a rich rose, that is timeless, simple and elegant. I'd never buy a full bottle, but clearly the universe is telling me this is the rose for me, so I think I'm just going to have to lean into it 😂
