The Ingénue Cousin Flora

Experience the allure of Flora, an enchanting little bird that I unearthed from obscurity within my collection, ending my long (and seemingly needless) search for the perfect summery citrus scent! Unfortunately, my skin reacts with citrus notes in an unplesant way. This fragrance, however, opens with a subtle bitterness from the peel, followed by a fruity mix of citrus fruits. A balanced herbal note compliments the citrus that along with a clean musk and a subtle ambroxan lend a fresh and airy quality, without overpowering the blend. The result is an uncomplicated but elegant fragrance that will be perfect for summer. While its longevity is moderate at 4-5 hours, it creates a pleasant scent bubble that is very noticeable and fades gracefully. Overall, I am absolutely thrilled to have been reintroduced to this beauty!

I had to have it. I was reading so much about this fragrance in this website that I was intrigued. It has some of my favourite notes, so I caved in and bought it. I was really excited at first and I wore it for a few days. But I don’t know what I was expecting, I felt I was going to be taking aback, I wanted to love it, but I just like it. I would not spend the money again to be honest. It is a little bit fizzy sparkly, like Dior home cologne. I I think I need to give it a go again but this is definitely not for winter. I like it but it has not robbed my heart! Update: This perfume is the bomb! It has really grown in me. My husbands loves it and wears it often. He wants to replace it and we probably will. Beautiful

I normally wear gourmand cosy perfume around the year but because of this hot wether I was looking for some refreshing scent. I do not like pungent, strong citrusy smell. This is what I was looking for of soft citrus scent. This is too clean and too simple, but enough for this crazy hot wether. The negative points are the longevity and the high price. Actually I do not get the animal design of the bottle cap nor the story behind.

Opened up to a very tangy citrus that went away in about half an hour then came a powdery musk and ambroxan. The musk and ambroxan were really good on my skin, making it smell so wonderful; soft and clean, a smell I would love to snuggle to. Alas the scent didn’t last long enough. But while it lasted, it was heavenly.

I blind bought this for the bottle but was amazed at how much I am Liking this scent. It’s a sparkling citrus easily unisex with decent longevity. For those familiar with the now discontinued Jasper Conran Woman, it is quite similar but without the ginger accord. I’m reaching for this daily at the moment

Love it, why is this listed for woman!? It leans more masculine. Edit: I actually tested the blue juice in 2023, it wasnt pink at penhaligons retails store, maybe a reformulation that tends to lean more masculine, im getting alot of Vervatos Artisian Pure in this.

A very pleasant summer fragrance, smells absolutely gorgeous, the sparkliest lemomade without berries, a floral crisp linenish freshie, absolutely beautiful, hope it get the love it deserves in popularlity .

Very nice neroli and clean musk. Very clean smelling. I love it. I would compare it to Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli. There is also a bit of aquatic note in the back.

In three words - my favourite freshie.

The opening is a very high-quality, sparkling, freshly-made lemonade that erupts from the sprayer (great sprayer btw). After about 10 minutes the citrus becomes milder, but is always present and noticeable in the sweet and fluffy musk. Smelling this scent on paper, if you search close enough there is a little bit of animal odour from the musk, but it is quite pleasant and adds a bit of complexity to the otherwise very tame scent. This fragrance, after the initial blast of lemonade, doesn't develop further. It's a pleasant and simple scent that feels very natural (like a skin scent, i suppose). Projection is moderate and longevity is about 10 hours on my skin, which is quite impressive for my skin, especially considering fresh/citrus fragrances are not known for good longevity. Fit for a character like the ingenue Flora, she is youthful and feminine, a "good girl" who acts proper and harmless, but has stars and mischief in her eyes. Overall, this is a simple, non-offensive, and easy-to-wear scent. It's pleasant but doesn't stand out among the myriad of citrus fragrances. Penhaligon's is a historic English perfumery and the bottle design and marketing of the Portrait collection is top-notch. In my opinion this is a nice and safe scent, but is definitely not worth the price of over 200 pounds.

If you've smelled Cousin Matthew, it's a verrrry similar opening with the harsh orange and petitgrain, but whereas that one remains sharp and rather bitter, Flora becomes much sweeter in the drydown with the ambrox and musk. The far drydown has an incredible similarity to the rose note from Declaration d'Un Soir. Plus it also has that same, almost french quality. Just take out the spices from d'Un Soir and replace them with a sweet musk and that's basically it. Very pleasant and surprisingly non-linear for such a simple freshie.

A perfectly unisex freshie in the vain of Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche, this leans more citrus to channels woods. It is pleasantly sparking lemon with a clean sporty vibe. It would work perfectly with tennis whites. The bottle and packaging are exquisite and the sprayer gives a glorious fine mist - maybe the best sprayer in my collection. I am not discerning enough with freshies to be able to distinguish an expensive one from a cheap Zara one so to my nose this is not worth the full price tag.

I smell citrus and peppermint from this. The citrus is bitter, not sharp or sweet. All in all this is a rounded and luxurious scent that is giving me a nostalgic feeling. It stays the same for several hours and then I'm left with a sweet vanilla musk that stays close to my skin. It's pretty but I would probably not buy a full bottle unless on a sale.

The opening is very similar to Matthew. Of course it would be, they are siblings right? However, the dry down then turns into a good combination of something fruity, woody, citrus and musky. I got it for free from the Penhaligon's Pair a Portrait game but I wouldn't go crazy buying it. Longevity and sillage is good. My overall rating: 6.5/10

First impression: lemontree leavs with sugar and clean powdery musk. Its right there at the edge of green, sweet citrus with out going to cleaningproduct teretory.

Overpriced linear ambroxan. I bought a small 5 ml decant to give it a good trial before splurging on a buy. And I’m thankful I did. I was contemplating to buy it based on the reviews describing it as a summery bright citrus and soapy fragrance. Unfortunately it was not so on my skin. While TICFP does open with a citrus accord, I find it very fleeting and not as fresh and bright as I’d hoped. It is a mixture of a slightly bitter green citrus (more so petit grain than bergamot) and a tad sweet one (a faint tangerine or orange rather than lemon). But as I mentioned the citrus recedes within 5-10 minutes to the extreme background. For most of its remaining stay TICFP is a linear ambroxan, with some sweet ambery aspects and a soft musky aspect. Occasionally it feels woodsy and softly rosy, but overall the composition and performance is subpar at this price. Don’t let the beautiful bottles of The Portait Collection fool you into blind buying. My advice is to try them and assess their value first.

This smells like peeling a super fresh cool orange that's its zest' EO squirts🍊💦 It's a much dryer fragrance, but I enjoy its musky drydown. However, I feel like the girl who wears it has random spurts of energy or can be testing you, waiting to see your reaction. For some reason, I imagine a person who wears this perfume enjoys fencing, knowing your blind spots. Very interesting fragrance, and it's wonderfully captured, but it's not for me, and I would've enjoyed a bit of a pepper or a gin note to have a more interesting development. Very soapy which I wouldn’t have guessed looking at the notes. I was hoping for a soft musky and slightly citrusy fragrance but this is an ambroxan bomb so scratchy that I could literally taste it in the back of my throat for the first hour. I recently noticed that I am becoming more and more sensitive to ambroxan and a high concentration could easily make me nauseous or trigger a headache so for that reason I don’t consider this a blind buy safe even if the smell is not particularly unpleasant. Longevity is great however.

I loved it during the first hour - and could smell it very distinctly. A green citrus scent, very innocent. But then it kinda disappeared on me and left just a soft whiff of musk if I smell my arm up close.

I got it at half its value. It was a blind purchase. I did not regret it, but I will not buy it again

I thought this would be a fresh and light citrus scent but instead it’s extremely strong and pungent. I had to tried to wash it off after half an hour, but a shadow of the scent still lingers on my skin...

Layering this with vanilla maybe for a nice citrus tart. But this alone is too.. way too lemon zesty. Not on its own for me.

This one turns entirely masculine on my skin. Pleasant citrus, just don’t think it’s for me.

On first blast, this smells strikingly like Concentre d’Orange Verte. No wonder I like it so much! CdOV is in my top 5 best citrus perfumes. While they are so alike, it’s not to say Cousin Flora is orangey. It isn’t. It’s also more green. I have yet to give it a proper wear but from what I’ve experienced so far it’s a fun and satisfying scent. I can’t imagine anyone, man or woman, not liking it or feeling disappointed. Unless they were expecting more complexity due to the $250+ cost of a bottle. If the price wasn’t so astronomically high I would recommend people get their hands on Cousin Flora as a gorgeous spring and summer fragrance.

Comparing Cousin Matthew and Flora side by side. Bottom line: all soap lovers the one gravitating towards Marseille soap but less sweet - go for cousin Flora. All neroli lovers gravitating towards sweeter cologne development - go for Matthew. I adore soapy fragrances especially white natural soaps without harshness - cousin Flora is my staple closing gestalt on clean soapy fragrances right here with CF. Very good work? Hitting all the right points cleverly excluding sweet floral fluff, the fragrance levitates towards greener/ possibly tea/ herbal tea soap.

Cousin Flora is a grand splash of citrusy vibes, very uplifting, sunny, encompassing and welcoming. Longevity is outstanding and sillage is great. It stays in my clothes until they go in the washing, a powerful fragrance without a doubt!. It reminds me of lemon sherbets, which I love. The sweetness is there but it's not overwhelming though. The words that come to mind are: playful, young, holiday, Summer, laughter, comfy clothes, sparkling wine, music.

Too me it’s extremely citrusy, opening is very similar to Chanel Madmoiselle, dry downs are totally different. The citrus remains through out the Penhaligan Flora fragrance, don’t get much musk or Ambrose’s just citrus, I’m going to layer it and see if it works better for me. It is pretty tangy lemon.. whole portraits line have been extremely underwhelming but I guess I will buy this one to give company to my only other Portraits (T Teddy). I can see myself casually wearing it during the summer day and actually get some use out of it.

As others have said it smells like lemonade at first, but there is something slightly sweet and unsatisfying, it doesn't quite work for me. Nice enough but doesn't blow me away. I have Cousin Matthew as well and prefer that.

Mandarins, lemons, oranges and bergamot,that's what I smell.So fresh but yet warmed by the lovely musk. Perfectly clean and simple, I am waiting for the spring/summer to come.I like it a lot. 9/10

Open up with sparkling sour green citrus which reminds me Hermes's Sur Nil. I think it is perilla(ldehyde). And It develops musky and ambergris. Nice and wearable.

I was hit by a smoot neroli and musk in the opening, 15 minutes later only a weak citrusy skin scent. Not Worth the money.

Beautiful, bright, citrusy, likeable, and utterly uninteresting.
