10/10 scent for me I love incense and this perfume introduced me to that genre. The scent reminds me of the smell of the hotel I stayed at in Tunisia and the kind of sweet incense they used to perfume the halls. It is so warming and sweet, so cozy and addictive. I remember smelling it for the first time in Harrods with a spray to the back of my hand and I could not stop bringing my nose to my hand alllll day. Unfortunately it seems I'm largely alone in this opinion though as my girlfriend really was not a fan nor my cousin who I usually go shopping with and the reviews reflect this too. I suppose incense is a polarising note in perfumery. But that's okay! This can be our own special thing for those of us who do adore the scent, and the fragrance is intimate for that reason. It feels less like a beauty product designed to project and attract and more so like a warm bubble, something to reflect your unique character. Something to leave an impression on those who embrace you. This is my baby from the Portraits collection and I hope it doesn't go anywhere.

This is the 3rd perfume I've ever bought, and it's a big jump from the designer fragrances I used to have. It's my first ever "niche" frag. I first smelled this at Selfridges in London in 2021 when it just came out. The seller was very convincing (and we were very convinceable too), saying that this was a "limited edition" (it is not). We sprayed this on our wrists out of curiosity and left the store. On the way back, we kept smelling our wrists like addicts and I remember telling my friend "BRO this is incredible", and he felt the same way. I had to leave on the next day, so we went back to Selfridges and each got one. This is a really beautiful, cozy, vanilla & incense perfume. It has no sharp edges, just round, soft and silky smooth smoky vanilla, not the cloying type at all. The downside is the coloration (it will stain your white clothes) and the longevity + sillage. It doesn't project much and quickly becomes a skin scent after a few hours. I wear this for myself usually.

I've been spraying this on my wrists at different times of the day for a week to see how it wears fresh and when reapplied. And overall while I love the scent i'm left really disappointed with the longevity and sillage. So even with top quality ingredients and with this big price Penhaligons should have done so much better. This drops of my skin like a $5 pharmacy cheapie. The scent is intriguing me, I'm getting something so familiar from this from the first spray and all through to the dry down. I'm not just talkin about notes but something in the combined accords. I can't put my finger on it but i'm getting something that is like blending different parts from JPG LeMale, PR 1Million and PR Ultraviolet. While the composition works really well as a whole its just a major let down in how long it lasts and the poor projection, and even as a skin scent it starts to fade away so quickly. Save your money folks nothing to get excited about here

So I understand the negative comments because upon first wearing I wasn't impressed by the longevity and it isn't like other harsher incense perfumes, but I tried again because I adore the deep pink colour and love a delicious incense that has NO oud. Omg on second try I was sold <3 it is gorgeously smooth and delicious. I sprayed twice on my wrist as the longevity from one spray was weak. Using two sprays lasted the entire day, I could still smell it lingering on my wrist when I went to bed. It opens with a warm incense-vanilla, like an irresistible spicy baked cake. The die down is mostly the incense spice notes but with a smooth round out from the Tonka bean. It is completely smooth all the way, no harsh notes and no sharpness - 100% the best incense perfume I've ever experienced. Despite the price I will be purchasing a full size!

His scent, an incensed (though, not like the rest!) traveler in a sweet-scented garden of sage, tonka bean and ambrette." Fearless? I was expecting a stronger scent from a dragon. First of all, it's a very linear scent, it ends the way it starts and it wears off within minutes. It smells of smoky vanilla and ambrette. You can barely pick out the sage, but it's there; it would be very simple without it. Tonka's sweetness and softness also blend into the fragrance. Penhaligons usually seem simple to me, they don't take risks easily. This one is easy to wear too. It has a mysterious and dark aroma, but you have to empty the whole bottle on yourself to smell rich and full. I think a bottle probably won't last a year.

I just recently got into this house and Arthur was my first pick. I ended up buying a high partial and i'm not disappointed in the slightest. It's a beautiful fragrance with a huge dose of incense, vanilla, and musk. It's a linear scent as I don't get much development throughout. It's a super high quality fragrance. It's worth 200+ for me but probably not others. The longevity is great at around 8-9 hours on my skin but the projection is poor. Very light projection which I personally like because I needed a lighter, office safe, inoffensive winter fragrance. IMO it's the best portraits bottle by miles. I find it a full unisex fragrance. A must smell if you're a fan of incense. Smell 10/10 Performance (5/10)

i bought a sample of this and i genuinely think it's the best fragrance i've smelled in AGES. this opens super heavy in incense, a little bit church-y, but settles down to a warm, rich, woody vanilla. the grapefruit notes in this don't come out for me until a bit later, and when it does, it settles really close to my skin! the performance on this is decent but definitely not what i was expecting from such a high price. the sillage is decent for me (i can smell myself all the time), but i do wish it lasted just a bit longer! don't get me wrong though, i'm completely fine with reapplying this! i honestly think this is one THE most intoxicating scents i've ever had the opportunity to smell.

To my nose, on the initial spray, it reminds me of pencil shavings with a light vanilla undertone. After around 2 minutes, the pencil shaving goes away, and the incense, as well as the vanilla starts to emerge. It turns into a beautiful vanilla fragrance with incense notes, amber, and some tonka bean lingering in the background. Like others said, not a lot of projection, and sticks very close to the skin. A good fragrance if you plan on being intimate, or simply don't want to announce to everyone know what you are wearing. Would recommend trying a sample, and not blind buying. 8/10 Overall, would prefer slightly more projection.

I have never smelled Babycat, but so far every scent that's listed as smelling like it has been a safe blind buy. I have this and Audacity and if you liked eau de Audacity, this is a safe blind buy. It's a touch smokier, a touch sweeter, and a bit less "in your face" - love both. It's SOOOO smooth and without a trace of musk (which I hate). What's a bit fascinating is how potent it is without radiating too much. I wouldn't wear this in a crowded space, but if your date likes it, you aren't going to offend the next table over wearing it. Your date will smell it though. I love the house... whatever it is they do does it for me.

This stuff actually hits the spot. The opening is just absolutely beautiful. Its a warm mixture of these vibrant red berries paired up with that gougeous yet subtle smply insense. After about 30 minutes or so a beautiful Vanilla emerges. The creamy berry and incense mixture is quite literally PERFECT. 6 hours with this fragrance is good, im sick of people ranting on about how they want "beast mode fragrances". People need to realise fragrances like these are works of art and simply dont need to last 10 hours +. I would 100% buy this if not for the price. 10/10.

The only problem I have with Penhaligon's fragrances is the longevity. This perfume house can be dominating the industry if their fragrances lasted as long as Xeroff for example. 90% of Penhaligon's is expensive and barley last for shit. The World According to Arthur is a beautiful amber scent that makes you hate the fact its gone within an hour or two. Mr Blazing Sam is another from the line, but the difference is that its one of the few Penhaligon's that actually lasts for a long time. Too bad that The World According to Arthur smells way better. 7.5/10

I smelt this in the mall and it completely blew me away from the presentation to the smell itself. Don’t listen to the other reviewers who think it should be spicy etc and more dragon like or have it be oriental. Being Asian it reminds me of Chinese New Year when my parents would light up incense put up city’s fruits and almond cookies, candy etc for the gods. It’s a clean gourmand that’s perfectly balanced and has a powdery few to it; absolutely stunning and delicious

As with almost all penhaligons, yes it’s pricey,plus the longevity and silage isn’t great. But the ingredients are class and the smell is amazing. This is a subtle spicy scent that is very warm and cosy. It’s strange because it borders on gourmand, but just stops short. It smells completely different, but it gives me the same feeling as wearing casamorati italica. If nothing else it’s intriguing, comforting and puts a smile on my face.

This is an incredible cozy incense and vanilla scent. Idk about all the batches since some people are complaining about longevity, but my batch at least is amazing. I wore this yesterday then layered it with By the Fireplace over top (fantastic layering duo btw). When I woke up this morning I could distinctly smell Arthur, all traces of Fireplace having gone by that point. 10/10 fragrance from Penhaligon’s.

Not only is this my favourite Penhaligons fragrance, its my favourite fragrance of all time. The combination of the modest vanilla and uniform amber is fascinating, with a smoky element that matures as you wear it. The only thing stopping me from giving this a perfect 5/5 is it can come slightly heavy in the winter and the longevity is only moderate. 4.9/5

This is one of my favorite vanilla fragrances and one of the few quite sweet scents that I actually like. The spice and smoke balance makes it extremely unique compared to other popular vanilla fragrances, however it can be overwhelming at times. Regardless it’s one of my favorites and got me into the portraits series.

Incredibly masculine fragrance. Strong incense paired with vanilla creates a sexy, strong but smooth fragrance. I wouldn't say its an everyday fragrance but for special occasions its an incredible choice. Also, the presentation of this perfume from the box to the bottle is one of the best around.

This is my favorite scent from the line if you're just going by scent. It has a nostalgic scent profile to me that I often associate with childhood. Many perfumes have the same DNA but none smell anywhere near as good! Unfortunately the performance is less good

It hurts seeing all these people hating on this fragrance because to me it really is a fantastic scent, however every person has a different taste in fragrance so i cant blame them for not liking it. That said I bought it and I'm VERY happy with it.

I fell in love with this perfume right away, I think it's a bit too expensive but sometimes it's hard to resist the temptation. I don't regret the money spent, they are beautiful.

Longevity isn't nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be, lasts for more than 6 hours on my skin, and, the smell is frankly amazing. Beautiful incense scent.

This is what I wanted from Diptyque's Eau Duelle! Yes! Stunning. Such a gorgeous vanilla with incense, would be a perfect winter fragrance.

The opening has that same incense/woodiness signature that is characteristic to this series. So from the first seconds, it can smell too smoky for some people (myself included) but it quickly clears to a warm and dark vanilla and tonka beans. Has great projection, longevity is pretty good, especially on clothing! I’m typically not a vanilla person, but this perfume keeps me sniffing my wrists and cashmere sweater :) Perfume is unisex leaning feminine in my opinion, almost no more smokiness or incense at dry down — catching a hint of smoky sage in the back. A sultry vanilla to wear for special spring/summer nights or cooler days at an upscale venue to make a strong impression. Smells expensive but a little overpriced. ___ Projection, sillage, longevity : 9/10 Originality, presentation : 6,5/10 Quality, value : 7/10 7,5/10

Truly unisex, but the scent is not consistent. It could smell very sophisticated at some point and suddenly smell like your typical Asian medicated oil, which I think the incense/smoky note heavily tributed to it. Decently sweet with a lot of vanilla, a good one not artificial and not cheap. I thought the Tonka and Amber would encounter the sweetness but they only added up for more sweetness, luckily it was not sickly sweet because these notes if overused would resulted in a sick feeling to the guts. Projecting and longevity was ok, but the dry out was kinda weird, it left a faint sour note, maybe because I live in a humid area, this one definitely not made for hot and humid weather. Probably best in fall/winter and when you're indoor, it has that really warm and cozy feel to it.

Pulled a tiny bit of incense in the first twenty minutes or so and then moved to a sweet, pleasant vanilla. But that's it. I didn't get any additional notes, and it lasted about two hours on my skin (and from the get-go, I had to nearly press my nose to my wrist to smell it). Liberally sprayed my sweater, too, with my sampler, and at a party three hours later, when I asked friends, they said they couldn't tell I was wearing anything. So... a safe scent for vanilla lovers, and the bottle is kind of fun, but the performance is so poor that I don't think I could justify buying a full bottle, even if it were discounted.

I'm confused how so many people don't like this? It's not very challenging. It's a smoky vanilla. One that's quite reminiscent of Babycat, except far less punchy and doesn't have that malty dry down. It reminds me of a more vanilla leaning Dr Pepper frag. I think it's a fun date night, or night out, easy reach. I find it to be sexy and inoffensive. I also think it's suitably unisex. Longevity and projection however are pretty poor - I agree with that critique. I get about three noticeable hours of wear out of my sample before I want to reapply.

The dragon roars, but not too loudly. Soft vanilla and smokey incense make up this light, nuanced fragrance, that has a sweet well balanced composition. It is a calming and quietly confident scent that you'll want to keep smelling. The presentation is beautiful with the firey red juice looking vibrent in a ferocious bottle, my favourite of the Portrait line. The only downside is performance that doesn't live up to the price tag, it faded within 2 hours and projection barely leaves the skin.

This smoke note is loooovely, almost woody, but still sweet. It smells a bit like the potpourri you burn at christmas, but I guess that is the triple incence :-) The vanilla compliments the smokiness nicely, and it feels very well blended. It is fresh off the bottle, but I don’t get any freshness on my skin as it dries down to something warm and sweet. It gets more and more female after a while, but it stays smoky and mysterious. It lasts for a while but it is pretty intimate.

Very beautiful, a bit sweet but not too much. A very rich and smooth incensey amber without any acrid or bitter note that can come with smokier fragrances. Powerful but not headache inducing, honestly just the right amount of power for me. It invokes a bit of mystery, but is also velvety and comforting. I don't find it to be super spicy, just a bit in the background. This smells wonderful on my husband but I think it's fairly unisex.

A lovely delicate, airy and slightly smoky vanilla. It seems very soft when you spray it on, and in some ways it is soft, but projects surprisingly well. I like it, but there's something about it that smells a bit too mature for my current age. It is sophisticated, I'll give it that. This is a like for me, but not a love.

Opening notes are amazing - sweet and smoky as others note - and last for quite a while, but the dry down is really poor. I wore it in the house and after 3 hours it started to smell as if something had been left out in the sun. Like with other Portraits fragrances, it is just too overpriced for what you get. 7/10

I still need to test it more, but this is quite nice. It is very similar to Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain, clearly inspired by it. However, this has more "body" to smell than SDV does. This warrants more sampling to garner my full thoughts. Currently: I like it.

This is a very pleasant fragrance with excellent performance. IMO, it smells similar to PdM's Herod but heavier with a vanilla-incense lean. I'd surmise that owning both might be redundant unless one likes this twist and believes it is sufficient differentiation.

The perfume itself is very nice, but it falls massively on it's face in the performance department. I love Arthur by Penhaligon's, but I wouldn't buy it again. Only because I feel it's too expensive for the lack of performance. I give this 7/10.

A fragrance that has a lot of potential but disappoints me a little. I like it but I don't love it as I believe it is missing something. It is purely vanilla and incense. In my opinion, not worth it for the price point.

It's such an amazing scent, but has the projection of a office fragrance which is disappointing. However if you have the cash to spend on this fragrance to consistently reapply then this is a fragrance for you

Smoky vanilla with a playdoughy touch. Unisex. Very pleasant. but It’s very soft and quiet so the performance is a big let down. Overall it’s meh because of the performance but I really like the scent

Amazing. Smoky vanilla. Some say it smells like play-doh. But imma say it smells good. Longevity may dissapoint you, otherwise the quality of the scent is really good. Try before you buy !

This is Eau The Audacity with spices. On me, this does not last as long as Eau The Audacity, no more than 6 hours top. Still, it's a good scent profile.

I love the penhaligons portraits line. I love the characters, story and setting. The majority of the collection is a win and deserve a try at least. However, the world according to Arthur just does not fit in here. It opens oriental with a background of incense that is lightened by vanilla. The contrasting scents are very well blended and somehow go together but leaves the perfume not achieving much. The oriental notes in keeping with the characters adventure are okay but are very, very tame considering the dramatic dragon and red colour. The incense is light, lacking that typical heaviness to incense. The vanilla does well to combine things together but gives it a sweet milkiness which dilutes things and makes it sickly (the main thing I pick up). It is palatable for sure (likely due to the sweetness) but somehow lacks character. It feels like a misfit, almost like the perfume doesn't know what it wants to do. The smell is big but hollow at the same time. The dry down on my skin, and another persons skin who tried it with me, is nicer than the opening but, as with the majority of penhaligon's, sillage, projection and longevity are low. It is okay definitely not a bad scent but I fail to workout what occasion or who would wear this as it just tries to fit into very contrasting boxes. The dragon is just not in keeping with the other characters, even the many discontinued ones. It does not reflect the personality of the scent and (being pedantic here) it is not a real animal like the others are. Finally, the marketing on this perfume is so heavyyyy! Every other creator is making a post about this and very likely due to them getting a discount or being sent one for free and of course they're mostly positive. Such heavy marketing is just so off putting and icky. Overall 4/10 - worth a try, perhaps not a blind buy
