I was waiting for editors to add this, because I’ve been obsessing over this fragrance ever since I put my nose to it, so let me be the first to review this gem. The bottle of 1272 was kindly gifted to me by Mr. Daniel Giles, the founder of Perfumehead. That said, this hasn’t influenced my perception of the fragrance in any way. After spending time with 1272, I can confidently say it’s a masterpiece—and a strong contender for becoming my signature scent (which says a lot considering I own 200+ bottles). Let’s dive in. At first glance, 1272 follows a classic citrus cologne structure, and to my nose it is centered on neroli, orange flower, and petitgrain. I have at least 7 other fragrances in a similar vein in my collection. But 1272 stands out—it’s crafted with such finesse and intention that it puts a smile on my face every time I wear it. It’s soft yet persistent, ethereal yet grounded, sweet but also green. It’s nuanced, multifaceted, and quietly complex. I really want to explore more from this lesser known perfumer. The opening of 1272 bursts with luminous orange flower layered with green twigs and a delicate syrupy sweetness. The petitgrain, derived from the Peruvian lime tree, enhances the green heart beautifully. The drydown transitions to a soft, woody base of Haitian vetiver and sandalwood. While cistus absolute (labdanum) is listed in the base, I don’t detect it on my skin—perhaps it will reveal itself more in colder months. One of 1272s strengths is its versatility. I wore it for a full day strolling the beach in Santa Monica and Venice—it bloomed beautifully in the humid ocean air. Yet I can also see it worn on a sophisticated night out. It’s effortless, elegant, and makes you feel like a million bucks. Now, let’s talk innovation. Perfumehead is known for working with high-concentration extrait formulations, but with 1272, they’re introducing something new: a hybrid between cologne and extrait, trademarked as coltrait. While that may sound like a gimmick, on skin it feels completely novel—light and fleeting, yet impressively long-lasting. The wearing experience is genuinely unique, and I’m excited to explore more coltraits in the future. Finally, the presentation deserves praise. I own Alone Together in the original dabber format, which I liked, but the new bottles are on another level. The design is stunning—custom glass with the logo carved in, a heavy bakelite-like cap, and one of the best sprayers I’ve ever used: ultra-fine mist, minimal waste. In a market oversaturated with loud, syrupy gourmands, 1272is a breath of fresh air—refined, super addictive and elegant, but also very thoughtful. An absolute standout release in 2025, and easily my favorite so far. If you like citrus cologne’s in the vein of 4711 original or Neroli Portofino, you absolutely need to try 1272, it is that special. UPDATE: The summer is over, and wow, 1272 became my favorite fragrance. I’m trying not to wear it too much so I can have some precious memories tied to summer 2025 and some amazing days spent wearing it while strolling through endless beaches of Santa Monica, Venice and the rest of the beautiful South Bay.

Smells like a niche small boutique atelier that makes ultra simple soaps, laundry detergent, shampoo, mouthwash, lip balms and hand lotions for minimalists to buy at high prices so they can feel unique and better than everyone else. And I mean that in the best way because this is very nice!
