Cosmic Cowboy

A brainchild of fashion-industry veteran, Daniel Patrick Giles, Perfumehead is said to create fragrances “laced with cinematic suspense,“ and, having worn Cosmic Cowboy for several months, I can vouch that this scent really does unfold like a mini-movie, both familiar and new, taking you along for the ride. What I get first is an electrifying wave of cinnamon bark that jolts your senses like that first riff of an electric guitar. It is an exciting, deliriously delicious opening, made irresistible by the promise of gourmand delights to come. What follows is my favorite part of the scent. Once the cinnamon settles (without ever fully fading away), I am drawn into the creamy heart of orris and supple leather, awash with warm, silky whiskey and hints of milk chocolate. Soft tendrils of tobacco add an intriguing touch, without being too smoky or overt, the whole thing melting into a mouthwatering yet seductive cocktail with decidedly gourmand overtones (think boozy cinnamon bun). Daniel Giles calls this fragrance “debauchery in a bottle,” and I agree, only adding that it packs an undeniable aphrodisiac punch. On the dry down, I pick up syrupy berry nuances woven into the mix and very soft musk—so elegantly done, Cosmic Cowboy simply smells like a delicious memory of an incredibly fun night of dancing, drinking and flirting at one of LA’s chicest clubs, bottled and preserved. I seriously cannot get enough of this scent—it’s turning into a full-blown addiction that I’m only too happy to indulge. I’d recommend it to fans of opulent near-gourmand fragrances like Angel’s Share, Eyes Closed and Zaya.

I bought this for my birthday last November and I've worn it about a dozen times. Personally, I think Cosmic Cowboy is a masterpiece. It opens with rich spices and darkness, and for a brief moment it smells similar to Chanel's Anteaus, which is a 1980s chypre known for its dark, brooding, no-fuss composition. Ultimately, the dry downs are completely different, so they're not similar. As the fragrance settles, I get a ton of cacao, rich tobacco, and whiskey, and it's absolutely lovely. At this stage it's, to me, one of the sexiest perfumes in my 150 bottle collection. It's so warm, resinous, ambery, and daaark. After about an hour the musks and suede become more pronounced, and the fragrance feels more smooth, grounded, and almost skin-like. The orris is adding powderiness and making Cosmic Cowboy unisex, but it doesn't smell like a makeup bag to me, which iris/orris tend to do. There is smokiness, too...but it's not cigarette smokiness (thankfully), it smells like the smoke caramel or some type of sweet thing (a pancake? I don't know, not really the cooking type) makes as you're cooking it. This adds such a wonderful ambery/vanillic sweetness that this profile needs. It lasts 8+ hours before it's a skin scent, and it projects greater than an arms length for the first hour/hour and a half. I love Cosmic Cowboy, and it's my favorite date night scent. I can't wait till the weather gets cooler so I can start wearing this again. 9.5/10. Bravo Perfumehead 👏

I love this stuff. It's an old-school clean yet smoky musk. I'm not sure that I completely agree that it smells like Musc Ravageur, though. I get the resemblance (I'm currently wearing them both), but only in part. MR in its opening and mid smells cinnamony, almost like a play on musk without actually *being* musk. MR at first smells more like Maison Crivelli Santal Volcanique (which I also own and love, to be clear). Not until far into the dry down do MR and CC smell sort of similar. Cosmic Cowboy, on the other hand, is much more consistently masculine, brutish and crisp, almost creamy. Cosmic Cowboy is an amazing cologne and is very high quality, reflective of its high price. Still, I do think the Perfumehead fragrance line, across the board, is very overpriced. $250 for ONE ounce? That places them among the most expensive in the world. Can't wait til the day they finally make it to discount sites.

I've been loving this scent after blind buying it in a fit of drunken passion at 3 AM. It sits well on me but I have a friend who didn't particularly like how it sat on her. It starts off musky and quite sexy, almost like creamy leather, but as it wears down I found it to be sweeter and brown sugar-esque. The dry-down is what marks it as slightly more feminine for me, although I think it smelled rather delicious on my boyfriend who found it too sweet to his liking. I will have to edit my review to be more detailed as I continue to wear it, but for now, I find it to be worth the investment!

Musk lovers, if you haven’t had a real fix since the 80’s, rejoice! There is something so satisfyingly nostalgic about this fragrance. It’s new old. Lots of potential here. I’m still experimenting wearing it alone and with Canadian Tuxedo, they do smell kismet together but an 850$ investment plus tax 😅 I’ll wait and let some real pros review while I decide.

Purchased this and Canadian Tuxedo at Bergdorf ‘s while visiting New York City last week. This one is reminiscent of PDM Oajan but more elevated. I don’t know who (YouTube) suggested layering this with Canadian Tuxedo, but the suggestion is genius. These are pricier than I’d normally pay but, the quality is there.

This is so interesting! It's definitely a boozy tobacco with a light dusting of a cinnamon and cocoa powder blend. This might be extremely insulting but at times I get a common aroma that is also in Dior's Feve Delicieuse and Vanilla Diorama. A very impressive fragrance! However, I don't think it's a full bottle contender. My favorite of the house seems to be Room No so far. 🤩

You are either going to love me or hate me for this review. Cosmic Cowboy is an EXACT dupe for Habanita by Molinard (which you can buy online for less than $100). I finally splurged on the Perfumehead test kit ($55), and was immediately taken by the fact that nearly all of these fragrances (except "Somewhere") have a classic dupe. Canadian Tuxedo is 100% Hermes Jardin Sur Le Nil. All the magic here is that Perfumehead is a sexy rebrand on vintage ideas that the younger crowd hasn't experienced yet. Unfortunately, I went through a phase of wearing Habanita when I lived in NYC in my early 30's; it was a depressing time and a marriage that failed, so I can't even fool myself into thinking that Cosmic Cowboy is cool enough (or different enough--it's not) to wear. It evokes those same old memories too much for me to tolerate. The smoky, antique vibe of a scent like Habanita or Cosmic Cowboy only "works" if you're wearing very expensive and cutting-edge street chic; it VERY easily teeters on the edge of old woman in a public restroom, with a fecal animalic twist. You can't wear either of these scents with a vintage fur coat, or you smell like the inside of a drawer in an antique dresser that held some makeup and perfume in it 80 years ago. Cosmic Cowboy isn't horrible; neither is Habanita. But it's nothing original, and it still doesn't smell like rock & roll to me. As someone who was hardcore into the live music and party scene of smoky bars, sweaty musky people, and leather jackets in the early '90s and beyond, I can tell you that this still misses the mark. It's a more refined version of someone who wants to smell like they party...like, I want to smell like I rode in the tour bus with Motley Crue in 1983, but I'm wearing a Balenciaga leather jacket and looking aloof and bored at a table with bottle service next to my rich but ugly low-level euro-royalty boyfriend. Tomorrow I'll be a debutante; today I'm pretending to be a rock chick (but I don't really know what I'm doing, and I'm not fooling anybody in the know). That's Cosmic Cowboy. Kind of pretending to be cool, but only fooling people who don't have the real world experience know any better.

I didn't want to write a review on this one, but my friends suggested I should. I know there's many out there drawn to the name, just like me. But let me tell you, I very much felt disappointed by it. I had high hopes for this one. There's nothing COSMIC to it, let alone any COWBOY vibes. Canadian Tuxedo is more of a cowboy scent, so dreamy, classy, refined and desirable. This smells like burning incense. Maybe some tobacco, but not in a good way. No cinnamon, and I'm a cinnamon girl, no whiskey, and I LOVE whiskey. Should've been named something different. Immediately I thought about Black Magic Woman by Santana. It's not a bad perfume but there's nothing enigmatic about it. My daddy is a real cowboy, and I myself happen to be a horse lover. I was so hyped about this perfume, hoping it would transport me to the times my boyfriend and I would be out at the ranch stargazing in the back of his truck while sipping on moonshine. It just gives Hocus Pocus vibes, all of them passing around the Pipe of Peace. What a bummer. Sure, it smells better if layered with a sweet leather perfume. But it's not worth it. My favorites are Canadian Tuxedo, and Room No. Definitely not for cowboys or COSMIC cowgirls or by any means anyone who's truly obsessed with the Universe and cosmic energy. Trust me. I can confirm this is a sweet, boozy tobacco fragrance and delivers what it claims, and remember Perfumehead is telling an LA story here. Does this remind me of the Sunset Strip? Actually, I can absolutely sign up for agreeing to that. I can also confirm the quality in terms of ingredients, longevity, etc. It's well-balanced and smells great. Here's where I feel a bit let down. I was expecting a bit more masculine scent. This is down the middle unisex. I just don't know if it's for me. I like the fragrance, but I'm also not sure it's feminine enough either. Honestly I wonder how I'd feel about a woman wearing this fragrance. I guess this is a cocaine-filled after party where everything goes. Not my cup of tea. I might wear it just for variety but I can't imagine an occasion for this one.

Cosmic Cowboy has a nice spicy opening. However, as the orris root kicks in, grandma's makeup bag opens up. Can't stand that about iris and Cosmic Cowboy makes only a feeble attempt to cover it up. I can't imagine any cowboy, cosmic or otherwise, wearing this. Maybe a cowgirl. Feminine all the way. After about 8 hours the iris faded to a more spicy skin scent that made it tolerable. Also impressed me as a more formal fragrance. True extrait performance with strong projection and a long life, even as a strong skin scent many hours after application. I can only imagine that it would perform even better in summer. But not for me.

On the blotter, I was intrigued, the cinnamon and whisky and tobacco were all playing together well. On the skin, this turned rank. It's like a dirty dish rag. Some of the tobacco peaks through slightly but it's not enough to make this pleasant at all. I managed to leave it on for a few hours to give it a real chance, but it never got better. (2/10)

For me, Cosmic Cowboy sits somewhere between Musc Ravageur, by Frédéric Malle (FM), and Tom Ford's (TF) Tobacco Vanille, the latter two being iconic fragrances to us fragheads. Cosmic Cowboy leans closer to Musc Ravageur. I own bottles of both TF and FM fragrances making Cosmic Cowboy redundant to my collection. Nevertheless, this is an excellent and enjoyable fragrance. It somewhat underperforms for an extrait (i.e., parfum) strength. But this is not a scent you want over performing either.

Sweet musk and juicy tobacco. The frothiness on-top of a rootbeer ice cream float, not the actual dessert but the dark creamy foam that crusts around the edge of the glass. A muskiness of a cowboy/girl with a leather jacket. Cozy but classy. I imagine the contradicting artwork from Kevin Chupik showcasing a classic cowboy, twinkling stars in the sky, classic cars, MCM homes and neon lights of L.A.

Doesn't really smell like Habanita. The boozy note on top is more like something you'd find in other popular scents, and the powder is much stronger in Habanita. This is also missing the vetiver that makes Habanita smell smoky. The magic of Cosmic Cowboy is in the drydown where you get a vanilla labdanum that's intoxicating. This is so expensive, but I'd get it if I could afford it.

Very reminiscent of Musc Ravageur to me. Similar enough to where if you have one, the other would be redundant.
